We’ve been talking about bunk beds for our girls for a while. DD2 is in the crib still (converted to toddler bed). DH ordered them from wayfair last week and they should be arriving today, meaning we get to build furniture together...yay 😬 Haha it usually goes okay, I read the instructions for him while he does the heavy lifting and we alternate drilling or hammering or whatever needs to happen. If I don’t read the instructions, he won’t and then he’s shocked when there’s a leftover
piece or something gets screwed on backwards. We learned this the hard way.

What’s the deal with painting while pregnant? Walls, I mean. I’d like to paint their bedroom at some point, or at least an accent wall. We painted DD1’s nursery before she was born and my dad and aunt and uncle did it because I was too queasy to handle paint fumes. Is it safe to paint/be around fumes while pregnant?

@bblair24 that sounds like you guys will have your hands full! I'm wondering the same thing, as I would like to paint the nursery in the second trimester (just so I don't jinx anything). MH won't like it if he has to do the whole thing himself lol. Maybe I'll put that on my list of questions to ask at my first appointment.
  • @bbrahmbhatt I guess I should probably ask my doc too! I really don't mind painting. We've lived in this house almost 3 years and I've painted the main level (kitchen, entry way, living room) and the bathrooms. DH doesn't like painting. He helped me paint two of the kitchen cabinets and that alone confirmed that I have control issues with painting :D He didn't offer to help any more and that was fine with me!
  • @bblair24 we recently painted most of the rooms in the house in April...so much so that both our hands were killing us! So DH probably has PTSD lol.

I took the plunge and ordered a few maternity dresses and tops; I tried on one of my pre-pregnancy dresses yesterday and it was SO tight on my boobs that I just couldn't wear it. I'm currently working out of a slim section of my wardrobe. I am holding off on jeans and other stuff, but there is a "mama" shirt at Target that I love and really want to buy, but I'm still afraid I will jinx it if I celebrate too much. Anyone else feeling like that?
  • @bblair24, unfortunately, I think the painting is a "no." if it's just an accent wall and a ventilated area + the right paint, it might not be too big of a deal, but I think it's still not recommended.

Our air purifier gets here today which I'm super excited for. I can't work out outside b/c it's so smoky with the wildfires and it's so bad a bit is getting inside so I'm not doing any cardio right now.

  • @bblair24 ooh I hope your girls like them! My oldest two have bunk beds and they love them!
  • @bbrahmbhatt I ordered a few maternity pieces too, for the future. I felt a little funny about it but it'll be okay!
  • @runsoncoffee thanks! They are so excited about them. The shipment got messed up unfortunately but we hope to have all the pieces today. We went ahead and told them what they were getting and they haven’t stopped talking about it since then!
  • @kvh22 Let’s do it!!

  • @kvh22 I love your over-the-top-ness ;)
  • @goldpolkadot lol I swear I wasn't like this in my other two BMBs.

  • We have an appointment this morning to go see a cat at our local shelter, and don't ask me why but I'm super nervous! We've been looking for a cat for a long time and haven't had any luck. When I was a kid, everyone had kittens to give away (I grew up in a rural town). Now it's so hard to find one, even at a shelter! And the shelters have been cleared out since the pandemic started. I'm hoping it will work out because DD is super excited and even though I told her it might not work out, you know how 4-year-olds are... wish us luck!!
  • @bblair24 @bbrahmbhatt  I think being around paint fumes while pregnant is a "no" - I researched it recently because we're currently have a bathroom in our home remodeled and it involves painting at the end. The contractors agreed to heavily ventilate the area and I'm going to sleep in a different bedroom away from that area of the house during the painting phase.

We just moved into a new house in April and there is already a room painted pink, it would be perfect IF we were having a girl, but we decided that we're not going to find out the sex of the baby, so it looks like we're just going to paint it white. My lovely husband will have to tackle that project on his own or hire someone :)

  • @theblondebump you could totally just leave it pink and paint after baby arrives if it's a boy. That baby won't be sleeping in his/her own room for a long time anyway!!
  • @juliebird6 that's very true! We thought about that too. But I think I feel better about having a nursery all set up before he/she arrives, just for my own sanity. I think as a first time mom, the first few months will be crazy I would end up being like screw it, our boy can have a pink nursery who cares. LOL
  • Ps. @bbrahmbhatt love the gif you chose - I have a dachshund and I'm obsessed with them <3
  • @theblondebump My nephew has a pink letterboard for his monthly updates 😂. Whatever works lol! If you’re a set up the nursery girl, I say go for it! I totally wasn’t last time.

We just set up our own room for DS. We moved to our house now when he was 8 months & his room was already a deep green. His room just has his crib, sound machine, our rocker & 3 little decals from his baby shower. We are boring.

This go round I’ll probably set up our room for the new baby again. Change area, crib, bassinet etc. I am feeling a bit more nesting like this go round & I do want to paint our room so I might get more decorations. I will keep it relatively gender neutral since hubby and I sleep here too lol! I’ll deal with their own room sometime between 6-12 months of age aha.

  • We won't be able to do a ton with this baby's room at first because it's currently our play room/school room. And will be for a month or so after he/she is born :D DD2 didn't have a room for a few months either. Her sleep improved greatly once she had her own space though, so I will probably be in a rush to get this room changed back to a nursery!
  • Oh I totally set up the nursery and then proceeded to keep DD1 in our room for 11 months lol. Now both girls share that room (moved DD2 at 10ish months). We were surprised but did a teal color for accents (didn't paint the walls).

I talked to my boss today about moving and being remote full time. 2/3+ of our team is remote including her so she was perfectly fine with it. Still trying to figure out if DH can also go remote or if we'll need to have him find a job. We can live on just my salary for a bit if we have to, especially if the girls aren't in daycare. I'm lucky to get full pay for 4 months of maternity leave. We'd also probably move stuff into my mom's garage for storage and live with her for a few weeks while we find an apartment and then start house hunting after baby. The nice thing is we're planning to move back to where we both grew up so we have lots of family to help (although DH's parents are older so the original plan pre-pandemic  for them to watch the girls is out since they're rightly concerned about covid being in their mid-70s so minimizing their exposure). My mom works retail and can set her hours and my sister is just starting part time as an OT with a school district so we'll be able to get a lot of childcare out of them (and they're happy to do it to help us and have us finally move back). My sister was talking about buying a new car so she could drive the girls around b/c her car is really crappy (as most first cars are). It's sweet how excited everyone is to have us back. DH's parents even offered to rent an apartment and let us use their house until we buy one since we "need more space" but I have no interest in doing that - it feels over the top and unnecessary. We've been planning this move for years and I'm so excited. Sorry for the novel :)

  • Guys, I am a HUGE nester and will likely "need" the nursery to be set up before baby arrives. I hope MH can do the painting!
  • @bbrahmbhatt it's such a fun project if you have the nesting bug! I was kind of lost with DD2's pregnancy not having a nursery to set up since we're just in a 2bd apartment. I feel like I channeled it into something but can't remember what.

  • @bbrahmbhatt I’m excited to see if my nesting bug sticks! I seriously could have cared less the first time around 🤣.

  • @bbrahmbhatt @theblondebump I'm a big nester, too! And definitely always needed the nursery done - but like many, the baby didn't sleep in there immediately. Though I guess we might be on the early side because we did move all kid out of our room after like 2 weeks maybe? At some point they start keeping me up and it drives me nuts haha.

@kvh22 our girls will share a room too (DD1 & DD2 - w/ DS in the middle of them but he has his own room). The baby is still in her nursery now but she'll get kicked out before April haha. I am trying to figure out the crib situation because we own 2 (first 2 kiddos were close enough that a friend gave us a second crib so we didn't need to move DD1 out)....but DS is using 1 as a toddler bed and DD2 is in the other as a crib. I suppose DS probably needs to get kicked out to a real bed haha.
Also, I LOVE your story! Goodness how SWEET are your DH's parents to offer that!?!
  • @goldpolkadot 2 weeks omg! 🤪. I’m glad it worked for you guys. We moved DS at 8 months because we moved homes & figured it’d be a natural transition. He was in our bed a ton though aha. He actually spent the second half of almost every night with us right after he turned one & that went on for about 6 months. We pulled him in last night actually, but he’s been more independent recently & sleeping longer.

I feel like at 2 weeks could help my over sensitivity to each grunt aha! I was so fussed as a FTM.

  • @goldpolkadot I prefer them out of my room too! DD1 was in her room from day 1. DD2 didn’t have a room right away because the house we lived in wasn’t a great set up, but I got tired of co-sleeping so we made room for her in the junk room that we had 😂 Odds are good I’ll try to have at least the crib set up in the playroom-soon-to-be-nursery by the time April rolls around. Once nesting hits I probably won’t be able to stop myself from rearranging everything!
  • All this nesting talk is making me want to order all of our furniture for the nursery! I have it all picked out, but have been trying to wait at least until the second trimester to order stuff.
  • @kelseyyh I totally get that! To be fair, with #1 and #2 the nursery was a room (with a door) off our bedroom so they were still super close by. #3 was the furthest away (we moved) and so with her I more didn’t want to have to walk across the house to nurse multiple times at night so she did spend a few weeks in our master closet 🤪 I get the FTM anxiety tho for sure!!
And yea @bblair24 I just could handle every little noise! I would find myself jumping up full of adrenaline and then couldn’t fall back asleep 😂
@theblondebump that’s definitely one of the most fun parts (along with you know, all the others haha). My biggest regret in life is not getting the ottoman that went with our glider 😆😆😆 get the ottoman!!
  • @goldpolkadot I wish I had the ottoman, too, but we don't have space. Hoping to move in a few months! Then I'm buying a poof (sp?...pouf??).

  • Can anyone share how to add gifs? Every time I join a bmb I need to be reminded how to do this.
  • @juliebird6 I’m glad you asked, I’ve been trying to remember too!
  • @theblondebump OMG me too!  I have a lot of stuff picked out too, but waiting until second trimester to order/show my husband. It has been pretty fun so far.

Would anyone, especially us FTMs, be interested in a "what 'essential' baby items to I really need" thread, or something similar? It might be nice to be able to ask those who are STM/STM+ what they wish they had and what not to waste money on?
  • @bbrahmbhatt yes def! I feel like all of my friends that already have kids have told me such different things about what they used/didn't use/wish they had/wish they hadn't wasted money on, so I think it really varies by the family/baby BUT I always love hearing what moms have to say anyway!
  • @bbrahmbhatt @theblondebump my last BMB did a thread for baby items STM+ recommend or warn to stay away from. Maybe that would work well?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @theblondebump I think for every item someone says is a "must have" someone else will say it's absolute "don't get" lol! I always say that to my friends I give advice to that these are just my opinions and you might find something does/doesn't work for you!
  • I have to go drop off a package at our shipping place and plan on dropping by the grocery store while I’m there. I don’t know what I want, but I need something other than pretzels and crackers to eat. So I don’t know what I want to get but I know what I DON’T want to get 😂 I’ll probably end up buying a bunch of things that look tasty today and then I won’t be able to even think about eating them tomorrow. Ooh well 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • @bblair24 good luck! hope you find yummy things! I had a glass of chocolate milk this morning and it seriously hit the spot haha.
  • @theblondebump thanks! I did find some things. My children were disappointed that I didn’t buy more for them 😂 Umm sorry, mommy’s selfish today! They’ve already eaten some of what I bought so they’ll be fine. Chocolate milk sounds really good now! I haven’t had a glass of milk in forever, partially because it usually upsets my stomach. But now I’m kind of craving it!
  • My husband has had more "cravings" than me, lol. He just went to go make mac n cheese out of a box because he was "craving" it lol. It cracks me up that we're eating mac n cheese in a box for lunch and going to a James Beard award winning restaurant for dinner  :# Gotta have a good mix, right?!

On another note, I am so excited! I ordered some custom onesies on Etsy for our eventual pregnancy announcement and they just came today - they are so cute!! Just the typical "Baby [Last Name], April 2021" and one with our business name on it, so we can announce on our business page eventually with a caption that says "Littlest Employee, arriving April 2021" - can't wait! I was going to wait a little longer to order them, but the store I bookmarked had a 50% off sale so I figured I couldn't beat that.
