@kelk5 right?!? I was jealous of him. Here I am paying into STD every pay period so that Incan get 60% pay for 6 weeks and he doesn’t have to do anything to get 100% pay for 16 weeks and I’m the one birthing the child?!?!? What is wrong with this picture?! Lol. He works for JP Morgan Chase, clearly they value their employees and families a little more than my company.
I don’t remember if this is the thread where we were discussing visitors and isolating when babies are here. But I talked to our pediatrician today and she was very pro-minimal visitors and not introducing new germs into your “bubble.” I’m glad I got her support because I worry about my husband’s family feeling like visiting the baby will be an essential duty, covid be damned. I can also totally see my MIL guilting us into doing a big family Christmas with a new baby and flu and covid still being in full force. I also told my mom we’re going to do flu shots all around and she looked at me like I was crazy. So I’m glad I’m already thinking of this because trying to discuss it in November would probably be even harder.
@krystrist2014 OMG at YHs paternity leave! That's outstanding!!!

@surlyjaneausten thankfully I don't have to fight the flu shot battle, but we started early with our reminders for g-rents and my mom got hers yesterday! I am telling them (and us) to get them early to not forget and since if takes 2 weeks to kick in!
Super random: I had a dream last night that someone's husband posted on here about having swollen feet and how they didn't fit into the flats he was wanting to wear😂😂 if anyones husband is having this problem, tell him i understand and I wish him bigger shoes🤣🤣
@babywiik lol that's odd. I got new shoes this past weekend! Actually my MIL got them for me because she's been harassing me about how my feet turn when I walk and how terrible my shoes are (she's had like over 30 surgeries on her feet so it's coming from a place of concern). So she took me to get new sneakera with lota of support. Not gonna lie, they are pretty fabulously comfortable lol.
😭 I just ran out of peanut butter for my apple and have ovee 1/2 a sliced apple left to eat. Guess we're having it just as an apple today 😒

It doesn’t matter now obviously since I left my job, but I didn’t get any paid leave unless I used PTO at the preschool. I could take up to 12 weeks unpaid. DH gets 2 weeks unpaid paternity leave. I usually send him back after one week but this time with the kids at home doing virtual school, I might ask him to stay out the full two weeks to help me. We’ll see. November is kind of a bad time to go without pay with the holidays right around the corner. I’m kind of sad that I’m not going to get that special time with just the baby while my kiddos are in school, post partum is probably going to be really stressful juggling the baby with my older kids’ school stuff. Hopefully by Nov we’ll be in a good rhythm with the virtual school and they won’t need my help quite as much. I’m trying to have a positive attitude and not stress lol.
I just realized that the first week of Sept (1-4) I have only one site scheduled so I really have like a week off pretty much. I did this because I have to wait for sites to get monthly weights in to really get started with seeing residents also because I have to work 60+ hours biweekly to actually see vacation time build up. I am not sure what I plan on doing.... I guess I can do a lot of organization like in the kitchen again and relax some.
I know this is weird, but honestly having been laid-off has kind of been a blessing when planning for maternity. I obviously don't have to reckon with a special timeframe, and we've been able to make things work financially, so far, which is a huge burden off my shoulders. DH doesn't get any paid maternity from work. Fortunately NYS has some of the best paid leave in the country. It'll still be less than his regular income, but he will be able to stay home for a month (which is what he'd like to do).
Like @kitkatz1990 since I left my job it doesn’t really matter but with DS my company had to let me take 12 weeks. But they didn’t pay me for it. I used six weeks of STD and then 18 PTO days which I used three a week for the other six weeks. I was on bed rest for four weeks so I had to go back to work when he was 8 weeks old. DH gets no paid days off at all so he asked his company for a lay-off and took 3 weeks of unemployment. He most likely will not take more than a few days this time.
@bserena so glad you had a better experience with it than me! I always struggle with them no matter what flavor, refrigerated or not. 😢 I don’t even like regular fruit punch juices as I find them too sweet - add in more sweetness and a thicker consistency and I gag the whole way through these. *TMI* Literally swallowed, threw up in my mouth, and had to reswallow last time. I can’t stand them. And my heart winds up racing from having to fight the gag reflex so hard. I failed the 1 hour with DD as well as with this babe, so next week will be my 3 hour and will make 4 times I’ve had to gag down the drink.
@bserena I did the lemon lime with DD, and it wasn't terrible, kinda like overly sweet/flat sprite. Refrigeration I think is key. With DD I failed the 1 hr and all they had was orange at the hospital when I did the 3hr, it was barely cold, but not too terrible thankfully. Again, overly sweet/flat orange soda is what it reminded me of. I hated how it made me feel though, pounding heart, and I was STARVING and nauseous. This time around I'm doing orange for the 1hr and praying I pass it *fingers crossed for the 9/4 to be a good day*
I vaguely recall making some joke about putting my college skills of power slamming bad mixed drinks to good use when I downed the 3hr one. I had it gone in less than 30 seconds. The nurse did NOT find it as funny as I did.

@bserena they said at my next appointment she might switch over to 4d. I am tempted to schedule one at a private place so DH can go with me. I loved it with DD
I agree I hated the way the glucose drink made me feel! I felt super dizzy and heart pounding, but overall the taste wasn’t terrible! I had the fruit punch one, refrigerated. To be fair my basement flooded that morning so I think I was more focused on that than the test so I downed it pretty fast 😂
@bserena DH isn’t allowed to come with me to the Ob appointments but they do them for extra. that is why I think I am going to go to a private place that allows a spouse
@mtengl yes luckily we didn’t lose anything too valuable!! we had a pipe in our sprinkler system burst so we ended up just turning off our water for the day until someone could fix it!
I went for my glucose test this morning. They didn't have any flavour options here, and I think it was literally just sugar water... But I have to admit... I thought the drink was pretty tasty!! lol
@bserena I wanted to do a 4D ultrasound, but the place that does them close to me closed a couple months ago, so the only location is a 3 hour drive from here (one way)!!!! So I started to look up photographers, and decided I'll splurge on nice newborn photos instead of the ultrasound. Although if it wasn't a 3 hour drive I would probably end up doing both!
Oh man, I’m gagging just thinking about y’all enjoying the drink. 🤣 I don’t even particularly like how sweet orange juice is.... so you can imagine how extreme something like the glucose drink is to someone who wouldn’t even choose to drink OJ. lol.
@bserena can’t wait to see pics from your 4D US! I considered doing one this go round since MH hasn’t been able to come to any appointments but I asked him about it and ultimately we decided to not spend the extra money.
@lurvleybunchococonuts lmao! I hate when the phlebotomists and nurses don’t have any sense of humor. Like, I’m gonna need you to lighten up because I’m the one getting stuck with a needle and you’re the one doing the sticking! Lol.
@krystrist2014 YES! I regularly tell my OB nurse that I feel like I'm dying and she laughs and says yeah I bet you do! She's great! I hate the techs/nurses/phlebotomists that don't chitchat. Like comeon your with patients all day, learn to talk/joke about stupid light hearted stuff. Thankfully everyone at MFM has been great so far in that aspect. The US tech at the hospital for my anatomy scan was soooo quiet. It was unnerving.

@lurvleybunchococonuts I’ve had polar opposites when it comes to anatomy scans. With DD they warned me before hand that they cannot say a word about anything they are seeing as they go along and take the measurements and therefore they really didn’t say much until giving us the baby’s sex. But with this pregnancy the US tech for my OB was sooooooooo chatty and made TERRIBLE jokes the whole time. One of which was a bad one regarding how there was no mistaking this was a boy and how she’d be shocked if he came out a girl because there would be a problem - so basically transsexual, right. Then she dug herself deeper and commented about how thats only happened twice in her career but at least you can fix it easily with surgery when they’re born and I just said “mhmm” but in my head was thinking “there’s no way I’d be making that decision for my transsexual child and surgically altering them!” 😟
Thankfully the techs with MFM will tell me what they're looking at/doing but not actual "results" per se if that makes sense. Usually they talk at/to the babies like come on stop moving PLEAAASSEEEE

@krystrist2014 Wow... maybe not saying anything would have been better in that case.
At my anatomy scan the tech kept going on about how cute and perfect my baby’s nose was. The baby was trying to get their foot in their mouth the whole time (definitely my kid 🙊) and she kept pausing to watch and see if they would make it. The first couple of times it was cute, but it got old. Then she was obsessing over the images and videos she had taken. It got to the point where I told her she had my permission to keep some of them for herself. It was kinda nice, though, to see someone who loves their job THAT much.
@krystrist2014 Wow. I don't know how I would've reacted to that!
My techs have been great so far, they walk us through everything and I know they can't say if something is wrong but they can speak on if something looks great then the doctor comes in to look over everything.

@krystrist2014 yikes! sounds like she would’ve been better off not sayings anything
My tech has been super so far, she tells me everything she’s looking for/at. We talked pretty much the whole anatomy scan about my daughter’s freak long legs!
I think this was the thread people were posting stuff on glucose testing... but I'm all confused right now!
Anyhow, I went for my 1 hr glucose test this morning and also my 28 week maternal panel. I haven't talked to my OB yet, but I just noticed results were up on the client portal and it looks like my glucose was above the reference range (so assuming I failed), and also my iron levels are low (I seemed to be out of range for every iron test they have). What exactly does all this mean for baby?
From what I've read other people post I'll need to take a 3 hr glucose test to confirm GD... but what sort of effect does GD have on baby? Also what about low iron?
I know she'll have all these answers, but my next appointment with her isn't until Sept 2 and I don't know if she'll phone me before then or if I have to wait 2 weeks to talk to her so I thought I'd ask here first before googling myself into a state of panic!!!
@Mia80 it's SUPER normal to fail the 1 hr GTT but pass the 3 hr so try not to stress too much over it 💜. If you do fail the 3 hr I believe you have to monitor blood sugar and usually have a certain diet you should follow. If your OB doesn't call you with results tmrw I would call Friday AM asking about them. Making you wait until next appt would be pretty crappy. As for low iron, not sure beyond possibly an iron supplement and/or focusing on eating iron rich foods.
