  • @crizz13 why hello there :) Hope you (and everyone) had a good weekend! Do anything exciting?
  • I've been up since about 2:30am, at work since 4:30am.  Today feels like it's gonna drag and suck.  I'm in an "I am overwhelmed and feel like the world is falling apart/chicken little'ing, wtaf are we doing having another baby let alone TWO" day :|
Also straight up whining because I wish I could work from home 2nd or even 3rd shift and that I could be home with my DD (and SD when we have her) and the twins once they get here and not have to worry about them, MH is looking to switch shifts back to 1st which means figuring out childcare :| let's keep adding to my stress level.

  • I agree with @babywiik How is it August?!?!
I am however getting the itch to decorate for fall! I’ve been Pinteresting 😬 and have so many ideas.

@lurvleybunchococonuts I’m sorry your so stressed! Vent all you want. It’s stressful enough trying to figure out everything for one let alone two!  Hugs momma!

I hope everyone has a great Monday!
  • Extremely irritated and ready to lose my shit on the next hair stylist that friggs up my hair. I hadn't gone to a salon since February. My hair is (was finally long and pretty) decided I needed to take an inch or two off and get some layers. Got it trimmed on Friday and didn't wash and straighten it until Sunday. This is the result and I'm furious and humiliated. Cried for a good half hr in the bathroom yesterday.
  • @BabyL52716
OH NO! I am so sorry nothing worse than a bad hair cut, maybe you can go to someone who will fix it...
  • @BabyL52716 WTF!? I’d be getting a refund on that!! That is ridiculous. I’m so sorry they did that to your pretty hair!

@mtengl I need to get on your level!! I have virtually nothing for this baby, and we kept almost nothing from our older two. I have DD’s crib that she’ll be sleeping in eventually, but I need something smaller for our bedroom for the first few months. I also need to go through DD’s clothes that I saved to see what shape it’s in. We do have a car seat, so that’s one big thing off the list.
  • @kitkatz1990  I have been putting it off (this time with DD I had everything and it was all set up). But I also am not a fan of all the clutter, I can't wait to start getting rid of stuff. I did organize all the clothes into size groups so I could easily pull them as she needs them. I got a Graco Move to Soothe (not the cry one) for in our room because DD is still not out of her crib and I wanted something I could move inbetween our bedroom and the living room for Ivy to hang out in.
  • @Ecat504 it’s kind of overwhelming and I feel like once we get to September it’s going to fly by and I’m going to be panicking, lol! I need to make a list. I feel like I don’t even remember what babies need, lol!
  • @mtengl @Ecat504 @kitkatz1990 I'm having such a hard time, because we really do have everything we need from last time, but I have a list of things that I really want to upgrade to the really nice versions that we couldn't afford the first time. And we still can't really afford, but... I want them!

I struggled with this because when I had the first 2 I was *a lot* younger and in a lot less fortunate financial situation than I am now. And I was thought my poor kids got hammie downs of everything and just basic stuff because it's what I could afford. So for a hot minute I struggled between getting all nice new expensive stuff for DD3 but hopped off that train because I know this is my last baby and I won't use it again. If one more were on the table I'd go for it.

  • @bserena Arrggghhh, that's frustrating!  I will say though, I'm not surprised to hear that something like Chem 2 has an onsite aspect to it.  It'd be really difficult to perform labs w/o being onsite.  On the plus side, if it's just labs once a week and seeing as I'd imagine they have as many students off campus/working online, you likely wouldn't have to interact with TOO many people, so maybe it wouldn't be bad.  When do you have to decide by/when do classes start?  Have you talked to the prof or school admin about how they handle maternity leave/would you be allowed extra time to make up labs/work around baby time?  How many individuals do they expect to be in the lab with you?  How far away is campus/how long would you be on campus for that day?  What are their cleaning/covid procedures between labs/classes/number of bodies on campus or within a room?  Another plus side seeing as it'd be for labs is that you typically are already wearing PPE which helps diminish risks regarding the pandemic, in chem that'd be a lab coat, gloves, and goggles then add in a mask you'd be HOT but well fairly protected.  BUT, that all being said considering we'll be having the babies on top of the pandemic going on, maybe it would be better to wait a semester to take it.

Things I would ponder, how long would you be willing to put off taking the class if the pandemic is still on going come the following semester?  Are you more concerned about being onsite regarding the pandemic or regarding being pregnant and giving birth part way through semester and then juggling having a newborn at home? Or is it a combo of both?  I realize I'm probably not helping much pointing out things on both side *facepalm*

100% agree that's super frustrating to have to decide potentially push graduation back and your other plans!

  • @mtengl I will definitely look into that! I haven't heard of it so thank you for letting me know. I definitely will ask about the precautions they are taking and take that into consideration.

@lurvleybunchococonuts I took Bio 1 and Bio 2 this summer fully online (they found virtual labs for us to do), so I definitely knew it might happen but was just hoping they'd figure out how to stay online as well. BUT you gave me a lot to think about and a ton of good questions to ask/look into, so thank you! Good point about the PPE as well. Normally classes are 6-9 (I work too so I do evening classes), but it looks like I would only be there 6-750 so not super long, once a week instead of twice. I am waiting for them to announce my professor so that I can ask/talk to him/her about baby and flexibility. I work for the school too, in the advising dept. part-time (my second job, yes I am so busy all the time, lol) and my supervisor there told me it really is up to the prof. usually about how they handle pregnancy/giving birth, etc. Classes start the 24th so I have a few weeks to decide.

I think I am worried about it all combined... baby/birth/COVID. Ideally I want to isolate from week 37 on, just in case, so class would make that impossible probably. It is just a lot at once! But I worry if I take a break it'll be hard to go back, to be honest lol. Thankfully my calculus class will be all online.

Thank you though, seriously, you gave me a lot to consider and I am going to get in touch with the school and ask a lot of questions before deciding.
  • @bserena Good lord you ARE busy woman! From that aspect alone maybe you should take the semester off ;) Seriously though I 100% understand the worry of getting out of the flow of school and worrying about getting back into it.  It's hard!  Especially school + work + a baby.  I'm glad you have a few weeks to decide yet and I hope your prof can help you come to a decision you feel good about!

That's neat that they were able to to virtual labs for bio!  How did that work out?  Do you think you would have gained the same level of knowledge had it been hands on?

Chem (or micro) would be pretty tough to do virtually since so many labs are based on precision and accuracy and then actively recording/seeing the chemical reactions and explaining them or failing to do it correctly and explaining why it didn't work :D.  Yes, I am THAT nerd who while in HS I truly DESPISED chemistry, but when I went back for my associates it all just clicked and I fell in love with it and the vast majority of my job, which I also love, is chem based!  What degree are you going for? What would you like to go to university for also?

I'm glad all my questions were helpful vs obnoxious.  It's super dependent on the person :D:D Some people get aggravated because I have a VERY analytical/logical mind and will try to look at things 10,000 ways with multiple "what if's" and then ask a TON of follow-up questions before coming to a decision :D *facepalm*  Not with everything, obviously, but it does make for some hilarious decision making and arguments w/ MH who is the opposite.  He is 100% "fly by the seat of your pants"/what's the worst that could happen/just go with it without dissecting it to minutia/follow your gut.

  • @bserena that sucks with your classes. I would say try and take it this semester to get it over with. It’s going to get harder with the LO. And talk to as many people at school about your situation/concerns. Other than that I think the other ladies have pretty much got you covered.
I got lucky and found a loophole as a business major and did not have to take Chem or Bio. 🤗 For science I took Physics for elementary teachers and Astronomy with a lab<super cool!
  • @lurvleybunchococonuts I think hands-on would definitely have been better for the labs, but for just general bio I think the virtual version worked pretty well. It is actually pretty interesting how much we can do online now-a-days! One virtual lab was a dissection and it seemed/looked pretty realistic, but nothing beats the real thing of course. I definitely see your point about chem though, Chem 1 I did in person and labs were definitely focused on the reactions we got based on how well we did the procedure, lol!

I am a biology major now, and eventually my goal is to go to medical school. But I'd be happy with a research based role as well, depending on how life goes, lol! I LOVE biology and anatomy, and thought I would love chem as well, but I had a really rough (read: lazy and arrogant) professor for chem 1 which made it pretty miserable. I still managed to get an A in the course but I don't feel like I really was able to grasp a lot of the material (especially the math) so chem 2 will be a challenge and I am sure I will have to re-learn a lot of the foundational stuff I should've learned before.

What do you do for work? I can't remember if you've told us already!
  • @bserena ugh I’m sorry that’s frustrating that they’re switching back! I would suggest talking to your advisor or department chair to see what your options are. I agree with @mtengl I’ve definitely been speaking with my professors about being high risk while pregnant. Ultimately you have to do what’s best for you and your LO! If that means finishing this semester and being as careful as possible, then I’d say go for it. If that means postponing a bit to stay extra safe and have peace of mind, then go for it! You know best mama

@potofgolden oooh! I definitely want to take astronomy at some point, I think I would actually really enjoy that. I am a science major so definitely no skipping science course for me, haha.

    ETA:
@1sttimemomma98 have you found your professors to be pretty open/flexible so far? I hate that I don't know who my professors will be yet so I can't reach out to them. Hopefully they'll release that info soon so I can try and get ahead of everything!
  • @lurvleybunchococonuts I literally LOL'D at your last post when describing your analytical/ logical mind vs your husband's. That's me and DH exactly! Except I'm the go with your gut, ride by the seat of your pants person. I 100% trust DH's decision making skills over mine but I do win sometimes!

@bserana Ahhh! I enjoyed A&P although it was SOOOO much mass memorization, get through the test, and then immediately forgotten :D  Some stuff stuck but like ask me what the name of the little bump under the head of the femur is and effff if I know lmao.

Chem professors can either make you love or despise a class.  I haven't done any outright chem math/balancing equations in a while, but if you ever need help I can at least try <3  Once you get the math down it DOES get a lot easier.  BUT if you got an A in the class I'd imagine you have a better grasp of it all than you think.  Warning though, if you have any O chem in with this chem course THAT is tough and will eff with your mind.  Clinical chem was primarily off of basic chem/chem 1 with some bio/O chem explained so it made sense.  But outright Organic Chemistry is a tough concept course.

So I have my MLT (medical lab tech) degree, but I work as a lab tech in a non-medical field.  Easiest way to explain what I do is that the company I work for makes baby formula for cattle :D and my job is to do all the quality testing on incoming ingredients/out going products as well as other random things.  It's awesome because we obviously have a certain level of standards that need to be followed, but it's far less stress/strict on regulations than say a medical or research lab.  I get to do a huge variety of testing, procedure writing, problem solving, etc.

When I was doing clinicals I got to do the chemistry portion in a medical research facility and I LOVED it.  Using the same testing/procedures but applying them in a different way than we were outright learning in class was fascinating to me for some reason.  I probably would have been better off just focusing on a chemistry major and getting my bachelors, but ehhh... maybe some day.

@acdc1109 LMAO it's so funny how opposite thinking attracts one another.  Honestly though, another person who thinks like me would probably drive me INSANE :D  I just DO NOT UNDERSTAND how "you people" think ;):D (and I mean "you people" as the fly by the seat of your pants type individuals, you confound me).  I'm wayyyyy too much of a control freak for that.  Which is hilarious because I am also a very emotional person which is like the exact opposite of logic in a lot of instances :D I've tried to figure it out and honestly it just just gives me a headache.

MH does get quite a few wins, but it's usually a hard won (on his part) victory :D The man has to be a saint for dealing with my neuroses :D

  • @lurvleybunchococonuts thank you for the encouragement! I will have to take organic chem 1 & 2 once I get to university and I have heard that the lab work is really interesting but also how difficult the class can be, for sure!

Your job actually sounds really fun/interesting to me!! That is what I love about the STEM fields, there are so many directions you can go in. That is why I originally chose Bio as I figured it would open up many different avenues for me down the road. School is a LOT, but I really do enjoy it! And I really am fascinated by medicine but the amount of schooling is almost too much to even comprehend, so I want to leave my options open, especially with LO on the way.
  • @lurvleybunchococonuts I have a healthy dose of logic so even though there are times I'd like to make a decision based on instinct alone, I know that's a terrible idea! I think that's why we work so well together, we keep each other together! 😆
Also, I am so curious what company you work for! I work at an animal feed mill and have a masters degree in animal science (but I did my research with dairy cows so I'm a cow nerd!). I completely agree about organic chem, but also biochem kicked my butt all 3 times I had to take classes (2 in undergrad and 1 in grad). I seriously hated it which is hilarious considering I work in nutrition...🤷‍♀️
  • @bserena My professors have been okay so far! I only get about 5ish weeks off and that’s because I’m due 11/30 and we go on winter break for about a month in early december. But I hope they get in touch with you soon!!
  • @bserena depending on what you're interested in doing just FYI I had a few classmates in my MLT classes with straight bachelors in bio or other science fields and then they had to go back for their MLT (MT actually if you already have a Bachelors) for the actual lab "experience" BUT I also do not know what type of jobs they were looking for outright. Options is a great thing! Agreed that the concept of medicine is suuuuiper daunting school wise. A friend of mine just finished her year of internship following graduating from Pharmacology school and I just cannot comprehend how she kept herself going. Soooooo much school.

Overall my job IS pretty awesome. I have a lot more control over my work/the lab than I would have anywhere else. It's a small company so it's a great atmosphere, my direct boss (the lab manager) jokes with the owners that I "run" the lab (while she does the paperwork/behind the scenes stuff). And she nicknamed herself Gma Lab when I was pregnant with DD. She only has grandsons so she looooooves DD and is super pumped I'm having twin girls. I actually have to teach her between now and mat leave how to run our mineral analyzer 🤣🤣

@acdc1109 lmao cows are cool yo! I'll PM ya the name of the company ;)

That is too funny about hating bio chem but working in nutrition!  We have a nutritionist who consults for us and he's such a character. So I gotta ask, what are your feelings on vetrinarians? Because the rumor I heard is that all vets think nutritionists don't know what they're talking about and vice versa 🤣😂

The idea of how many O chem & bio chem courses you took kinda makes me nauseous lmao!
