See the thing about this virus is that it isn’t “let’s get it now so we don’t get it later.” People who have already had it are getting it again. My SIL works in the lab at the hospital on antibody testing and she said people who have previously tested positive are negative for antibodies a few months later, so getting the virus now will not protect you later. I do agree that it feels unavoidable.
So my daughter, myself, and my MIL are all quarantined because a child in my daughter’s class tested positive yesterday. My MIL (who works with me at the preschool) was holding him when he was running a fever, and I was in the same room with him for over 10min. I’m not really super worried but I am annoyed about the hassle of getting us tested, lol. I’ve been playing phone tag all day with the ped trying to get a referral.
@krystrist2014 Oh we were going to send her if they were opened. I figured she had already been exposed, so why not. The daycare didn't want to shut down but were kind of forced to by health department. I agree that eventually we are all going to get it, just a matter of time. @kitkatz1990 I know we can all get it again, it is kind of like the flu in that way, you could get another strain, we take precautions of course but if it happens it is going to happen. Also yeah the getting tested part is the hardest part! DH asked if we should go get tested, and I was like no we will monitor and symptoms and just not see those who are high risk (we don't really see anyone, anyway).
@name1109 thank you, I am on day 3/10, it has been tough and DH is use to having his time to do whatever
A few weeks ago I had mentioned my cat needed surgery... updating to share that I visited a different vet for a second opinion and they said my cat is fine and doesn't need surgery! They also said it would cost about 1/3 of the cost for the same surgery in their practice... so relieved.
@warmwinter. Glad to hear your kitty doesn't need surgery! But odd that 2 clinics would be so different...1/3 the price difference is crazy.
On a sort of related cat note, my cat has bad breathe and I noticed plaque build up on her back teeth. So I phoned the vet today to see how much it would cost for a kitty dental cleaning.... $900!!!!!! 🤯 I was thinking it would be like $200, maybe $300! So my poor little stink breathe isn't getting her teeth cleaned!
I am just not as engaged in the whole Pregnancy Experience this time around. Like, IDK if it's the state of things or just because I've been busier this pregnancy (though IDK, I was in school last time, but I only had the one older child and a part-time job).
Goodness gracious I didn't even finish my whole thought. 🤣 But just like. I'm just a bit like "yep a pregnancy is happening, it's in my body, NBD." I feel connected to and excited for the baby, but pregnancy feels like a neutral thing to get through so I can do other things.
@mtengl the testing is a huge PITA! And yea it is similar to the flu that way. I’m scared to see what flu season is going to look like this year with Covid thrown in the mix!
It took allllll day but I was finally able to get an appointment to get DD tested at the drive thru testing site, now tomorrow will be my turn trying to get a referral. I couldn’t handle juggling both doctors offices and we have to quarantine until at least next Thursday anyway, so I wasn’t in a rush lol. It is spreading so badly in my area, I just know we are going to catch it sooner or later. We will just really lock it down starting in October to make sure we’re all healthy when the baby comes. My SIL works at the hospital and she said it’s getting crazy, and she comes home crying most days because of how sick and scared all of the covid patients are. I just don’t really see people’s behavior changing so I’m not hopeful that things will be any better in November.
@kitkatz1990 aw your poor SIL! I cant imagine working in the hospital and seeing it all firsthand. My area was one of the first to get hit hard and we were able to get it under control but our cases are already starting to go up again and ugh. It stresses me TF out.
I'm excited because I'm getting my hair done tomorrow for the first time in I think 6 months! One of my BF's does it. She rents her own little studio inside a building of studios so I feel comfortable since there isnt a ton if interaction between a bunch of different people. I also took DS to get his haircut yesterday. Figure we should get ourselves groomed before things get bad again here. It might be the only time I get my hair done before the baby comes!
@scatteringashes I feel the same way about this pregnant. It is my second, I am chasing an 18month old, working from home, and trying to keep things together. I just kind of go day to day and I am like ugh I wish these aches and pains would go away.
@acdc1109 oh no! Poor buddy! Hope he feels better soon and it's a quick passing bug or something! 😞

Apparently, he wasn't the only one sent home with a fever. There was a little girl from his class also sent home. DH said he's acting normal but has a runny nose so maybe it's a cold? Thanks for the support, @lurvleybunchococonuts and @krystrist2014! I really needed to get it out of my head so I wouldn't full-on panic!
@acdc1109 I hope little one starts feeling better ASAP.
I need a Xanax and a beer! My anxiety has been through the roof lately. My grandfather-in-law passed away on Tuesday. We are headed out on vacation now, it was supposed to start yesterday, but the funeral was today. The funeral went well despite all the Covid regulations. It was awful for the family to not get to say goodbye by touch, but only through the window of his nursing home.
DD has had had two hard falls and got fingers smushed in a door in the last couple of days. I told DH, DD guardian angels must be partying up in heaven and weren’t watching over her. And now we are on a 4 hour drive headed to the river, with a house with a pool so I’m worried about her being around all the water.
Are dogs are supposed to be checked on by my brother in law... and the it looks like our house is in the direct path of the hurricane headed toward Texas. I hated leaving my pups behind. FX it stays at a category one and I don’t have to arrange for them to be brought to us and there is no damage.
@potofgolden uffda that's a rough time. I'm sorry for your loss and about you DD 🤞🙏 hoping for the best with your pups and home!

@lurvleybunchococonuts doing better now! I think we did need this little getaway. My brother-in-law ended up taking my pups to their house. I’m sure they are misbehaving. 🙈. And it looks like the hurricane went just south of us. FX no damage when we get home, judging from our neighborhood FB group it should be fine. DD almost was able to help me put my flip flops on today. Hopefully as I get better she will be able to help momma with her shoes. 😂
@potofgolden I have been thinking about you all weekend, glad it went just south of you and everyone is doing okay.
We have been hanging out inside all weekend because of the storm, we had seriously heavy rains and winds in RGV and a lot of places flooded but thankfully my house is okay and we didn't have any big trees fall (my hackberry tree is next to the house and every major storm I think, will this be the one that makes it fall into my house).
DH and I really struggled last week because daycare for DD is closed for two weeks due to COVID positive test of a teacher. He ended up apologizing on Saturday morning for making it difficult for me. I have to work full time from home, and he is only teaching one class during the summer online so he has the time to watch DD. I was trying to be nice and say if I can I will start later each day so he can have his mornings to work outside or in his studio (He is an artist too) but he didn't realize that meant I would have to work later too. It was a constant issue of frustration for both of us but he realized he was being difficult so hopefully this week will go smoother.
@potofgolden I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m glad the hurricane was a non event for you.
@mtengl so many feels. Working with kids at home for me = sooo much mom guilt. I’m home, kid sees me or knows I’m home, I want nothing to do with them because I’m in work mode, and they need a graham cracker and Mom HAS to get it. Followed by toddler tears/tantrums. I love you kid it’s hard for me to have you in my work space.
@name1109 oh yeah, if mom doesn't do it then it is freak out. I don't have a work space either. I will literally be sending all the treats to daycare next Monday when they open again.
Trying to catch up with everyone’s posts now. I was busy last week trying to get all my work done be for my last day on Friday so it wouldn’t fall on someone else. I’m finally done!
It is so nice to be home with DS! What sucks is it is so freaking hot and humid it is pretty much too hot to spend anytime outside. It’s just gross!
@mia80 $900 is a lot! They were estimating $15-1700 for my cat's dental work but it was including blood work and x-rays... the second vet said they would have only charged $400 though, so if your cat ever seems to be in pain, it might help to get a second opinion. My original vet was part of a larger "chain," which I'm now learning can be a little pricier.
The first vet said there was a spot on my cat's tooth that looked like an early sign of tooth resorption. The second vet saw the spot and was able to scrape it off. So I'm wondering if the first vet just did a quick check without looking much further into it?
Who was it who strongly recommended Happy Baby Carriers? Was it @lurvleybunchococonuts ? Anyway, I just got my first one and tried it out! So soft and lovely 😍 I wound up getting an onbuhimo so I can wear DS without having a waist band, and so far I like it, although he is heavy on my shoulders.

@hedgepig ooooo! I love Marigold! It's so pretty I have shadow which is great because it's not "girly" in MH's opinion I'd LOVE to get a new Spark toddler (I worry about Cake because it's so light I'd stain the crap out of it). Their colors are absolutely gorgeous and I don't think I've ever seen one I truly dislike (aside from some of the horrific dye jobs/overlay's/custom things I've seen people do to them). If you're on FB I recommend joining the Happy Baby Chat & BST group - the owners Brad & Beth are really active and amazing - especially if you have any questions regarding the fit of the carrier. Don't forget to get (or make) some suckpads for it if YS is a drooly/gnaw'er - DD is in a constant state of teething with her hands shoved in her mouth drooling and gnawing on her fingers *facepalm* (or for once LO arrives)!

@lurvleybunchococonuts Shadow is totally the kind of color I'd normally opt for, as I personally prefer darks, but I made myself get a light color because I wanted it to be cooler in the summer (my Tula is black). I couldn't ever get something as light as Cake though, because where we live it would get immediately dusty/muddy. I am in the FB group, and seeing all the colors/mods/stash pics is very dangerous for me! I really want Taro 😍 and have 🤞 for the fall drop. And yes, I already have suckpads picked out on Etsy, and am browsing fabric also, trying to decide if I want to try making my own (basically trying to figure out if the patternI found online is good enough to be worth buying). DS right now is not chewy/drooly at all, but I want to have them before baby gets in there!

@hedgepig ahhh great! Yes, the stash shots are soooo dangerous. Thankfully I don't have that much disposable income MH would not be pleased hahaha. I really want one (or two preferably) H & P hemp blend slings. Taro is so pretty too I personally really dislike the "ombre" dye jobs people post. The colors never transition smoothly or it all looks that same IMO. But then some of the dye'd Nova's are GORGEOUS!
Re: suckpads, if you have the time and energy to make em, might as well give it a shot. I contemplated making some and even went as far as to get fabric and cut out a pattern I made just tracing the straps and giving it an extra allowance... annnnnd that's as far as I got I ended up ordering a pair on Etsy. I want to say I ordered from Calby's Corner, but they took FOREVER (well over 2 months and this was PRE-pandemic) so def pick somewhere else if you order online.

@name1109 not for a girl, but yes! I’ll watch the credits after shows or movies, look up movie casts, book characters, band members, etc, just hoping that the perfect name reveals itself.
@surlyjaneausten I looked at credits for sooo long, my whole family thought I was crazy 😂 finding inspiration for the names anywhere is hard! especially when you feel like it’s the same names over and over again
@surlyjaneausten I got really heavy into ancestry.com when pregnant with DD looking for names and then back again this pregnancy looking for names.. I have over 10k in my tree now 😳. And no names came from the tree. 🤦🏼♀️ No regrets though it’s cool to see where you come from and follow their stories.
@mtengl I’m glad y’all made it through the storm. I was worried about you too, when I saw that it was turning south.
@hedgepig did you see the new fabric yellow HB carrier they're testing out?! I think they said the fabric is tencel? I know nothing about it but what's been posted recently in regards to it, but the pic makes it look pretty darned soft and kind of amazingly snuggly. *scurries off to go see what styles it'll be available in* 😂🤣

@lurvleybunchococonuts Yes! It looks super soft! Tencel is like rayon, right? I'm definitely curious, but I'm so recently obsessed with the linen, so it'll have to be pretty amazing to steal my attention 😅

@hedgepig boooo apparently it'll only be limitied quantity available (for right now) in original. And if they get good reviews back may add colors and other styles. I can't justify abother OG so 🤷🏻 oh well.
I just looked it up, yes it's similar to rayon or modal although I *think* the fabric "feel" is different. Apparently they are all cellulosic fibers (plant/plant pulp based fibers) but according to the site I just looked up, tencel (also called lyocell) is supposedly the most eco-friendly of that type of fiber?
