@kiki047 it sounds like you have a solid plan and a wonderful RE! That's so kind of him to give you a direct line to him. FX AF shows up sooner rather than later and you can move forward!
Update: IUI booked for tomorrow morning! Thanks everyone for the kind words
@kiki047 So glad to hear that your appointment went well! So nice you have his cell phone number. Sounds like an amazing RE!

@kiki047 ah, thanks friend!! You just made me tear up!! 💜 I’m honestly not sure how I got so lucky, but I’m thankful every single day that I did!! Such a great update for you!! That is wonderful that your RE knows exactly where to implant that precious embaby after all the testing and mock transfer!! That is so awesome that he gave you his cell number, that is some top notch personal service right there!! Hope AF shows soon so you can get this transfer cycle started!!
@misshelen86 yay! Everything possible crossed for a smooth and successful IUI tomorrow! Enjoy that vacation too!!
@misshelen86 I will be thinking of you tomorrow for your IUI! Everything is crossed!
@keikilove That is so scary and sh***y that insurance would even consider doing that to you! I'm glad your cases are trending down. Sending good vibes that everything will work out for good.
@kiki047 I'm glad that you're getting definitive answers and a clear path forward, and that you have such a supportive team on your side!
@bluetickgal I'm glad your adoption meeting went so well and that you have a plan moving forward.
AFM: Sorry I've been absent here for a couple of days. I've been feeling weird about posting this, because I don't remember anyone else saying anything like this following their ER, but here goes: I'm feeling really depressed. Not like, danger-to-myself depressed, but just super down. It's different than feeling emotional during stims. IDK. I guess the hormone crash following ER is probably the cause, but again, I don't remember others mentioning it. I'm a nervous wreck for tomorrow's Day 5 update, and I'm convinced they're going to tell me none of my embryos made it. I just can't be positive. I didn't see if @legallykate got a Day 3 update, but we did not. And I'm sure there are reasons (maybe study-related ones) that they didn't do a Day 3 update, but I'm just picturing all of my embryos dying one by one, with no one checking on them. I just wish I could be somewhat prepared for what tomorrow's update could be.
Sorry for the crazy rant. I'm okay. Just not sure why I feel so negatively right now.
@shoogapoff Thanks friend! I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way. It sucks that they didn’t give you a day 3 update so now you have no idea what to expect. I know it’s so easy to think it won’t work, but remember you had 10 fertilize out of 15. Chances are good that you will have some healthy embryos that make it to day 5. Don’t beat yourself up for how you’re feeling, because your feelings are completely valid.. this whole process is such a roller coaster Sending you so many hugs and positive thoughts

@shoogapoff I am so sorry you're feeling this way but I am so glad you are speaking up about it. I would totally think that the hormonal crash after an RE and after stopping those stims could totally be the cause of the feelings you are having. Just try and know it's not YOU, it's just your body adjusting back down to "normal". Could you call your doctor and mention the way you're feeling to put your mind at ease a bit?

@shoogapoff thanks, friend!! I’m so very sorry for what you are going through right now! 💜 I agree, I’m sure the hormonal crash from quitting the stims and the ER itself is playing into it! That stinks that you didn’t get a day 3 update, but I would think they would let you know if something went wrong. Could you call and just ask if you should have gotten an update already, or if you could now? Hopefully that would give you some peace of mind!! I’m sending all the positive vibes your way, and I have so much hope that you are going to have several embryos to have tested!
@shoogapoff I am so sorry you're feeling so down and like your embryos aren't going to make it. I agree with everyone else, I think it's the hormone crash messing with your mind. Lots of love and hugs. We're here to be positive for you!
@misshelen86 I am SO excited for you!! Crossing everything for your IUI tomorrow!!
Thanks, ladies. @bluetickgal They told me on Day 1 that my next update would be Day 5, so I know it's not because something is wrong. I'm just sad I don't get that mid-way update, since that is typical. I don't know if that is a rule of the study, a policy of this clinic, or something else. And I don't know if that means they don't check them at all in-between or if they do and just don't call me. I'll be okay. I have less than 24 hours left to wait, so the worst part of the wait is over. It's just such a crazy-maker!
@shoogapoff oh friend, sending you a huge long-distant hug right now. I was pretty much a zombie after my ER, just going through the motions, stressed and sore and convinced nothing was going to go our way. That really stinks that your clinic/study isn't giving you a Day 3 update, but I can almost guarantee someone is monitoring those embies because most places want to know the development rates even if they don't tell you. Maybe they figure it's less stress for the couple if they don't have a day 3 update because not all embryos make it to blastocyst but we all know that not knowing is so much worse. Hang in there, friend. Never feel guilty for talking about it - chances are some of us have/will feel the same way and by keeping it in we're only perpetuating that cycle. Will be thinking about you tomorrow!! FX for good news!!!!

@shoogapoff **HUGS** I remember doing everything I could to take my mind off the waiting for the updates. I did get a day 3 update, but it was still really hard waiting for the final number on day 5. No one had prepared me for the idea that the number drops quite a bit between days 3 and 5. Even the wait between days 5 and 6 hoping for a few extra embryos was horrible. Your feelings are totally valid and shared and honestly it makes me tear up a bit when others are feeling the same emotional turmoil I felt. My understanding is some clinics and labs operate with the protocol of providing day 3 updates and others do not. I wonder if that has to do with the idea that it's better to leave them to do their thing rather than potentially mess with them when they check on day 3 (but I really have no idea).

UPDATE: So, my egg retrieval was cancelled for this cycle. Oddly, I feel ok with it and trust my doctor's opinion to take this route. Basically, at the baseline U/S she saw two "runaway" follicles: one measuring 11mm and the other measuring 13mm. She saw others at 5 & 6, and some others on the other side that were at 5 or 6 or smaller. She said if I started stims the biggest ones would be ready for retreival in 5 or 6 days, and the rest would be too immature and just go to waste. Since I get only one shot at this covered by insurance, she said it's best to cancel the cycle, reset, and try to grow follies that are all the same size for the next attempt. So now it's back to BCP but this time I will start it earlier, on CD1, to stop any follies from growing too fast. Secretly, I just felt SUPER relieved that she saw so many follicles before I'd even started any stims. And this hopefully gives me a shot at a May baby, which is my favorite month of the year. FX!!! The only lingering worry is that our Covid cases have started to climb again. Ugh, this crazy time we are living through....
@shoogapoff I'm sorry for this hard waiting time you're going through. I can only imagine how it must feel. It sounds super normal to have all those thoughts and doubts--especially with such a long time between retrieval and any updates. Like others have said, please don't feel bad for sharing your true emotions with us. This whole thing is so difficult, we definitely understand all the highs and lows of this entire ordeal. We are always here for your, whether it's for happy or sad times. Hopefully you get amaing news tomorrow and we can cheer you on through that high phase! Until then, hang in there, my friend. Sending you big virtual hugs!
@kiki047 Yay for your great apppointment! Everything seems to really be falling perfectly into place. Too funny about your RE really knowing your anatomy. Welp, that's better than the alternative, lol! Thanks for sharing about him choosing the spot to drop off your little embaby. I have similar issues to you with tilted uterus and differently shaped ute; I hadn't thought about asking my RE about best placement for embryo transfer. I hope the scratch does just the trick for the embie to snuggle in tightly! So awesome that you can even call your RE with any concerns. I love this whole scenario, feeling really good for you!
@acleverusername I love that you found a 4-leaf clover! Perfect wish Thanks for sharing about you & YH's road to IVF. That makes sense to get on the fast track now. I'm really impressed with how much you seem to knwow already and the appointments you got lined up to get answers quickly. Best of luck with all of it!
@legallykate I see what you're saying about your career. Burnout is super real (in my field too), not sustainable long-term at all. Less demanding will be great for you, especially once you have more littles running around and needing your attention. Thanks for the positive wishes re: my cycle and Covid not putting a stop to anything. FX!!!
@misshelen86 Thanks for the good wishes for egg retrieval. Woohoo for your IUI tomorrow! All your numbers sound fantastic! I will be thinking of you tomorrow and sending all the positive juju. Your adventure also sounds amazing! I want to go to all the places you listed. Sigh....
@keikilove that sucks. Good that you're okay with it though. I like spring babies too 🙂 I am one myself!

@shoogapoff gotcha, that definitely makes sense! I hope the next even less than 24 hours fly by for you and you get a wonderful update! Sending hugs your way! 💜 @keikilove ugh, that stinks your cycle got cancelled...but I’m so glad you are looking at the bright side of things!! That’s good that your RE has your best interest in mind with wanting your cycle to count the most while being covered by insurance! Here’s to hoping for a May baby for you!!! 🤞🏻
@shoogapoff Oh cycle buddy I am so sorry you have been struggling this week! My clinic also does not do a day 3 update, they told us we would not hear from them again until day 5, but I do believe they monitor constantly and I have somewhat convinced myself that no news is good news and that they would have called us and not arbitrarily waited until day 5 if all of our embryos had stopped developing. I will keep all the things crossed for you tomorrow, I really do have faith it will be good news for both of us
@keikilove I am so sorry about your cycle but am glad you feel good about the decision and agree with your doctor's reasoning for it. I will continue to send vibes that covid doesn't mess you up. Does your doctor recommend anything differently for the next time in terms of priming to make all the follies start at the same place?

@shoogapoff I am so sorry you're having such rough time. I can only imaging what that waiting must be like. It's definitely a good thing to talk about it and if you have a way to reach your doctor, or maybe even a tele-health psychologist/counsellor? Anyway, hopefully only good news today! Please report back.
@legallykate hoping for good news for you as well!
@misshelen86 Good luck today!!! Will be thinking/hoping/praying for you.
@katy_ciccio Good luck today as well! 2 years is a long time and hopefully this will be it for you!
@keikilove Wow - that really sucks about the cycle cancellation, but good on you for being able to take it in stride. It sounds like you've got an RE that knows what she(he?) is doing and has the best possible outcome for you as a priority. It sucks that you have to go back on BCP though... I know that was a struggle this last time. And we can only pray what will happen with COVID. I'm in California, so things are NOT great here (though north is way better than south).
Forgot to mention one thing about our decision to move to RE pretty quickly: I never had regular cycles so I always had a feeling that something ain't right down there. Every pelvic ultrasound I suggested some new dx: PCOS, adenomyosis, etc. So, yeah, that decision was a very easy one.
@keikilove ugh, I am so sorry your ER was cancelled, but I think you and your RE made the right call. If you only get on shot at this, you have to make sure it's the best one possible!
@katy_ciccio welcome! My DH and I just hit the 2 year TTC mark, too. Not a fun milestone. Wishing you the best of luck with your IUI!
I have a question re: HSG... how much does it actually hurt? I've heard "it only really hurts if the tubes are blocked." Can anyone share their experience? Also, someone elsewhere mentioned about getting antibiotics right away if there is blockage and maybe even asking for it before if there is suspected blockage? Does anyone have experience with that.
I'm kind of freaking out about my HSG coming up next week as I had an open appendectomy for a ruptured appendix when I was 5 yrs old. My RE definitely suggested the HSG after we talked about it. So of courses I've since been looking up research articles about relationship between appendectomies & tubal blockage 🤦🏼♀️.
Well, I got the call from the embryologist. Results in spoiler:
None of my embryos are blastocysts yet. 3 are in early blast, but they can't do PGS until they're more-developed. So they will call me tomorrow. I'm not feeling good about this. It feels like the road has ended for us. This sucks.
@shoogapoff oh no, I am so sorry 😢 I hope the 3 can pull through and get tested. Sending lots of hugs ❤️❤️

@shoogapoff Sorry you didn’t get the results you were hoping for. I’m keeping everything crossed those 3 hang in there! Hugs
@legallykate FX that your blasts continue to grow!
My IUI didn’t go well. I’ll put DH’s counts in a spoiler:
His previous SA looked really good so I thought we were out of the woods. This one wasn’t horrible to start off with, count of 25 mill/mL but low motility at 20%. After the sperm wash though, we were left with a TMC of just 0.4 million. We were hoping for closer to 5 million, but at least 1 million. My RE recommended still going ahead today since I wouldn’t get much money back and it doesn’t hurt to try. But she also recommended not trying any more IUI’s because the counts are just too low. She said we still have a chance, since we have optimized everything. I am trying to remain hopeful, but we are talking about what our next steps will be in case this doesn’t work.
**TW for unpleasant IUI.. for those who are squeamish*
The IUI itself was a bit of an ordeal. Before we started, the nurse told me it would be quick and easy like a Pap smear. Well, I am one of the rare ones that they have trouble with. The nurse tried for a while, then called a very experienced nurse and neither of them could get the catheter to thread. Thank goodness it happened to be my RE working today because I feel really comfortable with her. She had difficulty as well and after trying with a pair of forceps and then doing an ultrasound, was able to get it.. it took almost an hour in total and I’ve been feeling really crampy since. What sucks is that everyone who tried thought my cervix was curved but on ultrasound it was completely straight.. so once she saw that, she got the catheter in right away!

@legallykate hoping that the other baby blasts hang on and develop into full blasts. 🙏
@misshelen86 I am so sorry the sperm count after wash was so low. ☹️☹️☹️ Is it normal that SA varies so much?!? The experience itself sounds awful. I’m glad you went through with it anyway. I hate to throw around the clichéd “it only takes one” but if it gives you hope...
@legallykate FX for more blasts 🤞come on little ones
@misshelen86 an hour? Oh gosh! My first one I think they spent 20 some minutes. Both nurses that did it (I think one was new so she was doing work with other experienced nurses) struggled to get into the uterus. To get the first IUI they ended up using some kind of tool to pull on my cervix to make it straight - not fun! My 2nd IUI they used the US to guide it and that was a bit of a struggle too, even for the RE, but it went much faster. They learned my cervix tilts back and to the right. 3rd IUI, I thought she was still working on the forceps and she's like "ok put your feet together and chill for 10-15 minutes". It was completely pain free and I didn't have a clue it had been done. Hoping for the best for you with this IUI ❤️ would they consider one more just to see if this IUI sample was some kind of fluke?

@katy_ciccio welcome! I hope your IUI went well yesterday!
@acleverusername I didn’t have the HSG done, so I have no insight on that. I had an SHG which doesn’t check the tubes, but it really wasn’t much worse than a pap. I know several people here have had an HSG though and have recommended to take some ibuprofen or the like before! I hope it all goes well and is not painful for you!!
@shoogapoff friend, I’m so sorry you didn’t get a better update yesterday!! I was so hoping the update would put you at ease! Hoping/praying you get an update today that those 3 made it to blast!! Sending you so many hugs and positive vibes!! 💜💜💜 @legallykate hoping so hard that those 6 continue to develop and make it to blast! Sending positive vibes your way, friend!! 💜 @misshelen86 I’m so sorry your IUI was such an ordeal...an hour of them trying sounds miserable! I’m sorry the SA results weren’t as good as you were hoping for, either, but it only takes one! Fingers crossed so hard for you, friend!! 💜
Thank you again, ladies, for all of your support. We did get 1 embryo frozen and biopsied. Surprisingly, it was the one that was in the morula stage yesterday. Today it was a hatching blastocyst! Now we wait for PGT to come back! I'm relieved to have 1, even if its just 1.

@shoogapoff Yay for one hatching blast!! FX it’s a strong healthy one!
@inthewoods23 There was a bit of waiting in between attempts but it was mostly lots of poking.. that’s what they tried to do with the forceps, pull my cervix straight.. then after ages my doctor realized it was already straight. My husband really wants to give IUI one more try, but I don’t want to spend money on something if those are the numbers we get. I just don’t understand how it went down so much with the wash.
@acleverusername It’s normal to have some variation in the SA, and there is usually a drop after the sperm wash.. but I don’t think it usually drops this much! It’s so frustrating.

@misshelen86 I am sorry to hear
about the count drop and how awful the procedure sounded! You poor thing! FX
for a happy outcome after all that.
@shoogapoff Yay for the hatching blast, that is a great
update! Crossing all the things for your PGT results. I hope the wait is quick
for both of us.
AFM, we ended up with our one day 5 blast and one day 6 blast they were able to biopsy and freeze today. The embryologist had me really hopeful for more today so I was a bit disappointed, but I am grateful for the two we do have. He said they will check again tomorrow because the other 5 are still in pre-blast and still developing so there is a small chance one or more of them could get there, but the literature seems to suggest day 7 blasts don't fare well so I'm not banking on that possibility too much. I think for sure we will take next cycle off to see how our little guys do on their tests before deciding whether to transfer (assuming we have a normal one to transfer) or do another retrieval first.

@misshelen86 I’m sorry for all that you experienced with the IUI! That sounds so uncomfortable. I had one IUI where they did it a bit early & had to use the forceps to pull my cervix straight==not fun. I hope you’re feeling better today! Re: YH’s sperm count: I have also been concerned that MH’s sperm count has gone down each time we’ve tried IUI. I read some articles about resveratrol & thought of you. Maybe have YH try this & do one more IUI to see if it helps? Men can also take Ubiquinol to help with sperm health/cell turnover.

@legallykate I'm glad one of your day 6 embryos caught up, but I understand the disappointment. I definitely didn't fully appreciate the roller-coaster that is IVF until I was on it!
@shoogapoff It feels so cliche to say but yes it is TOTALLY an emotional roller coaster. I hope so much that all three of our frozen blasts are normal and perfect for implantation Did your doctor say when to expect your period? Mine said 7-14 days but I have had insane cramps and other AF symptoms all day so I will be shocked if I don't start tomorrow, I was hoping for a bit more time but oh well.

@misshelen86 GL with the IUI tomorrow!

Sigh....
@bbrahmbhatt Thank you too for the well wishes!

@keikilove ugh, that stinks your cycle got cancelled...but I’m so glad you are looking at the bright side of things!! That’s good that your RE has your best interest in mind with wanting your cycle to count the most while being covered by insurance! Here’s to hoping for a May baby for you!!! 🤞🏻
Me: 37, MH: 38; Married August 2017

July 2019 - Diagnosed with Secondary Unexplained IF

10/28/2019 - IUI #2 (7.5mg of Letrozole + Trigger) = BFN
11/25/2019 - IUI #3 (7.5mg of Letrozole, Trigger + Crinone after IUI) = BFN

@misshelen86 thinking of you today! Good luck!!
This gif seems to be a lucky one, like @inthewoods23's Jurassic Park one!

@legallykate FX that your blasts continue to grow!
My IUI didn’t go well. I’ll put DH’s counts in a spoiler:
**TW for unpleasant IUI.. for those who are squeamish*
TTC since 9/2018
10/19- First RE visit
2/20- DH had surgery for bilateral varicoceles
7/20- IUI with 5 mg letrozole- BFN
9/20- IVF. 9 eggs retrieved, 9 mature, 8 fertilized with ICSI, 7 blasts, 4 PGT-A normal
11/20- Mock transfer/ERA
12/20- FET #1- transferred one 4AB- BFN
3/21- FET #2- transferred one 3AB- BFP! Due Dec 2021
12/21- Baby girl born!

@inthewoods23 There was a bit of waiting in between attempts but it was mostly lots of poking.. that’s what they tried to do with the forceps, pull my cervix straight.. then after ages my doctor realized it was already straight. My husband really wants to give IUI one more try, but I don’t want to spend money on something if those are the numbers we get. I just don’t understand how it went down so much with the wash.
@acleverusername It’s normal to have some variation in the SA, and there is usually a drop after the sperm wash.. but I don’t think it usually drops this much! It’s so frustrating.
TTC since 9/2018
10/19- First RE visit
2/20- DH had surgery for bilateral varicoceles
7/20- IUI with 5 mg letrozole- BFN

11/20- Mock transfer/ERA
12/20- FET #1- transferred one 4AB- BFN
3/21- FET #2- transferred one 3AB- BFP! Due Dec 2021

@misshelen86 I am sorry to hear about the count drop and how awful the procedure sounded! You poor thing! FX for a happy outcome after all that.
@shoogapoff Yay for the hatching blast, that is a great update! Crossing all the things for your PGT results. I hope the wait is quick for both of us.

@legallykate Congrats in your great results, too! FX that all continues to go well.💓
@misshelen86 I’m sorry for all that you experienced with the IUI!
Resveratrol (very brief mention of effect on sperm):
