@bbrahmbhatt welcome!! That’s is great news about YH. When do you get your results back? I know just how you feel on the guilty front, it’s normal and natural to feel that way but you do need to try and keep reminding yourself that this isn’t your fault. At all. I have tried letrozole and Clomid and liked Letrozole so much better. Clomid is known to be more effective for most people, but I had the opposite happen for me and i responded much better to letrozole. I did not respond well to Clomid and gained a decent amount of hormonal weight from just one round of it. Then I ended that cycle with an ovarian cyst.

@kpearse99 not yet. The plan is to try for 3-4 cycles naturally after I go off BC. If we aren't successful with getting KU, he'll put me back on BC for another 3 months and then we'll look into medicated cycles which I would guess would likely involve clomid or letrozole.

@bbrahmbhatt glad YH got good results but I'm sorry you're dealing with those feelings. TTC is such a mind game.

@shoogapoff 10 fertilized is a great number! Congrats on getting to this point! Personally, I think it’s great that you get all that rest time in between now & FET. It should help your body reset from any potential retrieval inflammation and stimming meds.

@acleverusername I’ve heard only good things from those who’ve used a NaPro doc. Many of the tests you’re having done are the same ones I got done at my first appointment with a Reproductive Immunologist. That’s a good thing: they may uncover lots of things that a traditional RE doesn’t look for/pay attention to. This may be way too nosy, and please do say so if you don’t want to answer, I totally understand: I see in your siggy that you & YH were married this year. How did you know it was time to pursue all these infertility doctor appointments?

@gingermama29 Woohoo, last week of BCP! Congrats! I hope your cycles are normal after this. I totally agree with you & @emeraldduchess about teaching being an adventure. You never know what you’re gonna get—it all depends on the students’ personalities each year, how they gel as a group (or don’t!), whether the curriculum changes or not, etc etc. Not for the faint of heart! But never boring.

@keikilove it helps that they finished all the projects SIL and her BF wanted to complete before having their BBQ a week and a half ago! BF can be a major pain in the ass and nice in ways I don't like but it was nice that he identified that unfinished projects really bother me! And MIL was on board also because a Christmas gift was something for the house (we picked a new shower door for the small bathroom) and it turns out their budget got a little blown from what they purchased for SIL and her house so she has to figure out what they ended up spending to give us a new number. Apparently it adds up when you buy a little here.... A little there... Lol

Diagnosis (if you've been): RPL, AMA, elevated Natural Killer cells & activity, blood-clotting disorders

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO, I guess? Egg retrieval in 2 weeks! Finally!!!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): This week we go to our teaching appointment, hooray! I’m also sticking to the gluten- dairy- sugar-free diet and trying to stick to keto diet for these final weeks before ER.

How are things going?: Well! I’m in a much more positive mindset than a couple weeks ago. Doubts definitely creep in about whether I will even get any healthy eggs or whether this whole process will even work, but I try to catch those thoughts immediately and challenge them with positive mantras instead. The finance lady at my clinic did have a hard convo with me yesterday, though: she said that there’s still a chance that my RE’s hospital could halt everything due to COVID, and that if that happens then insurance will count it as a cancelled cycle. Then it would be hard to get it approved in the future because insurance only covers one lifetime IVF cycle. So all that info was scary to hear! But I’m trying to push it out of my head & give it zero energy. Today I saw on the news that our Covid cases have dropped, so I’m hopeful that everything will continue on schedule!🙏🏽🤞🏽🙏🏽🤞🏽🙏🏽

Any questions?: I don’t think so today... maybe once I start the stims...

GTKY: What’s the greatest adventure you’ve ever had? Oh, I’ve had a lot! Getting my undergrad was one (I went to 3 different schools before staying at the same one for 2.5 years to graduate). Long-distance relationship was another. I’ve moved all the way across the country and back again 7 times—my whole life feels like a constantly evolving adventure. I just can’t wait till we can safely travel again so that I can have some new life experiences in new countries!
ETA: Im taking the last evil BCP today! Happy dance!!! 😆

@kiki047 Thank you for linking me to that thread I had a chance to review it before our RE call and it was 100% helpful. I understand the cultural aspect when it comes to something personal like IF. My parents don't ask any questions. But luckily they accept it when I talk at them.

@kpearse99 & @emeraldduchess YEP, lots of tests; fasting insulin / glucose was the worst! 3 draws in 3 hours. Though apparently those are required a couple of times during pregnancy too.

@shoogapoff 10 fertilized eggs! That's really truly impressive. Enjoy the next cycle off as you await the next part of this adventure. Thanks for mentioning your friend's experience to me! Hopefully I get some good information from this experience. My only reservation is that it does seem like a "you need to commit to this for some time", and unfortunately I don't feel like time is on my side, so I might just scrape the surface.

@legallykate 13 eggs is truly great! Yay! Would you prefer to skip a cycle until transfer, or do it in August if all the test results are back?

@bbrahmbhatt I'm sorry that you find yourself here; I'm new here too and even after 2 weeks I can say that I've so happy to be part of this group (which sounds twisted, but I hope you get my meaning). I am sorry you're feeling guilty about being the IF factor. Women's bodies are so much more complex than men's; there are 1000x more things that could go wrong. I hope YH recognizes this and can help you work through your feelings.

@keikilove I truly hope that your RE clinic remains open FX those COVID cases stay down in the next 4 weeks! (For what it's worth, I found a 4-leaf clover in the park on Saturday and wished for a Covid vaccine to be available ASAP.)

Regarding our decision to move forward with RE so soon, well... DH has known I wanted kids since 2009 (lol), but really wanted to wait until we're married to start trying (I didn't care! I was ready to get this show on the road; mind you, we were only engaged for 4 months so we wouldn't have gained much time there). And even before we got married, we had a discussion about potential IF (he'd did an at-home test last year that showed below average everything) and what our steps would be and easily agreed that it would be the prescribed "6 mo if you're 35+" and then straight to RE. I've also had 2 really close friends say "don't wait until you're done your 6 mo to start looking into REs." So, we're just following the timeline!

Call with RE today was GREAT! Honestly I feel like a 1000 tonnes of weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Just having a better idea of what the plan is for the next 5-6 months is SO much better than thinking about all the possible alternatives. Both MH and I really liked the RE, and tbh, I don't think I even want to meet others. She's straight to the point, data-driven, and flexible. One thing I appreciated was her saying: your AMH is good for your age, but at this point, egg quality is the more important issue. This is humbling; I'd previously was thinking that maybe my good AMH could buy us extra time.

So, the plan of record now is to complete some missing testing: HSG / ultrasound for me (on suspicion that an appendectomy I had when I was 5 could be cause for debris in the tubes; also a 2016 ultrasound I had shared with the RE prior to our appointment showed evidence of adenomyosis which can cause IF). MH will get his testosterone checked and will also do genetic carrier screening. Then she's recommending that we try 3-5 (depending what we're comfortable with) superovulation (clomid / letrazole) + insemination cycles.

Reviewing the thread that @kiki047 shared on "what to ask your RE" was super helpful. After our almost-1-hour-long conversation, we said "we want to be pregnant by end of the year, does this plan get us there?" and she confirmed that if we start in Aug/Sep, we could try 3/4 IUI, and if that doesn't work, IVF in Nov/Dec.

Now I'm just wondering what to do with the additional testing NaPro has lined up for me. I'm thinking doing HSG + Estradiol testing next cycle (should be starting in a few days) and still trying naturally (RE said that chances for spontaneous conception is higher right after an HSG) then moving forward with RE plan starting in Sep cycle.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Will be doing Follistim & IUI this next cycle.

How are things going?: Going pretty well! Finally got prescription and insurance stuff figured out today...they ended up switching pharmacies on me because Mandell’s is out-of-network and wouldn’t be covered at all. Working with Avella has been a good experience so far though! We are doing Follistim because that’s what insurance covers...the meds are getting delivered Friday!! 😬 Hopefully my cycle will start this weekend (I finish Provera on Thursday and in the past I’ve started a few days after, although it’s been up to a week...I’m hoping that’s not the case this time around). On another note, we had our adoption meeting last night...we were both super nervous right before, but it went really well! I’ll put in a spoiler because my post is already so long!!

She basically just opened it up for us to ask all the questions we had (we had written quite a few down before, luckily)! She had already sent us the application...it is soooo many pages and we will have to involve quite a few other people for references and whatnot!! She went through what the process looks like, which was very helpful! She recommended that we wait until we are finished with IF treatments before even doing the application, because it would be a waste of time and money if one of the IUI’s does happen to work (plus, we need to close that chapter of our journey before proceeding)! We discussed and we are good with that! We will go all in for 2 (possibly 3) IUI’s with Follistim, and if none are successful...we will be done with our TTC journey. It will be a clean break and we will focus all of our attention on adoption!

I have definitely had the feelings of inadequacy as our issues are all on my side, but try to focus on what you said in your GTKY...you and YH are tackling life (and this journey) together!! I was on the lowest dose of Clomid for 2 cycles, but I didn’t ovulate on it, so I’m not much help. Side effects weren’t that bad, except some headaches if I remember correctly! I hope it does the trick for you!!

@bluetickgal hopefully AF arrives soon so that you get this show on the road. I love that you and YH have your minds made up re trying IUI a few more times then closing that chapter and moving on to adoption. It takes tremendous maturity on both your parts to get to this point and be okay with it. Kudos and GL.

I am definitely cognizant that plan in the making might need to change but I’m more comfortable with that than not having a plan at all! At work I always say to my team “the plan is the plan until it’s no longer the plan.” For example if my tubes are blocked... or if DH’s sperm isn’t motile enough for an IUI. (RE mentioned that the SA report he got after his analysis in June didn’t have all the information; go figure!”

@keikilove I just want to say that you're doing an AMAZING job pushing those negative thoughts away with positive ones!! It's so easy to let the negatives consume you but so much better for you to counteract them with positive affirmations! I will keep thinking only wonderfully positive thoughts for you!! @acleverusername haha that's funny! I actually read part of the article. I've always kinda wondered if I have some form of PCOS even though my cycles are fairly regular and predictable. I have a large number of follicles (my AFC was over 30) which I believe is a symptom. I cling to small things like that in hope that the GF and DF diet is what will do it for us. I should probably get better about having less sugar though! I've fallen off the wagon with having less soda lately.

ETA: so Invocell is essentially IVF, but your uterus is the petri dish instead of it all happening within a lab right? I feel like that's a really good option for those that get recommended doing transfers with day 3 embryos instead of 5. I believe they say success is better when it all happens within the uterus as the environment instead of a lab.

Even though we are on what is probably plan revision #17 at this point, that plan is what keeps us sane and focused! I love the motto that you share at work! I’m so glad it seems like your plan is starting to take shape!

I think it really is best for us to wait...we are going to have to tell family & others once we start the application, because we’ll need references and forms filled out by some other people. We would rather wait and tell them when we have something more concrete! She said that we can move as fast or as slow as we want once we start though...so hopefully we’ll be able to expedite the process then! We are going to do what we can to prepare for applying with getting information gathered, even if we don’t actually fill out anything just yet.

@acleverusername I'm glad your appointment with the RE went well! I remember feeling so relieved after our first appointment. It felt like we were finally taking a big step toward getting answers and having a definite plan.

Thanks for the encouragement on the job front, ladies. I am disappointed for sure after getting SO close, but strange things happen in school systems during the month of August. I had a good cry, felt all the feels, and will pick myself back up. My frustration is more with the unknown and having to search for a teaching job in the middle of a pandemic when no one knows what the next school year will look like.

@acleverusername Glad your call with the RE went well! It always feels so good to know what’s coming next. Re: Invocell, I’ve definitely heard of it. I’m not a candidate, but also leaned away from it because IVF success rates can be as much as double those of Invocell. Also, because I want them to watch my embryos develop and tell me if that might be where the problem lies. With Invocell they can’t watch the embryos as they (Hopefully) fertilize or develop. But, if I was younger & had more time to try different things, maybe I’d try it because the option to let them develop in the most natural environment makes total sense.

@bluetickgal Congrats on the adoption appointment going well! It sounds wonderful that she gave you all the time you needed to ask all of your questions. (I’d have so many!) It sounds really smart to fully focus on your IUI plan going forward, and then focus on the adoption process if IUI doesn’t pan out. They’re both huge emotional investments, I can imagine it would be tough to juggle both at the same time. Good luck to you!

@kpearse99 I missed answering your question above. I want to do embryo testing but it may not go that way. My RE expects me to be a poor responder with few eggs retrieved. She said it’s likely they won’t make it to Day 5 for testing, so she wants to plan for a Day 3 fresh transfer. She’s insistent that embryos develop better inside the uterus than outside, so she wants to put them back where they belong as soon as possible. It makes sense. But I’m hoping & praying for a miracle result that gets us more embryos so that we can test & do a FET. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

@bluetickgal I just got an email about setting up another interview, so we'll see. Most applications are done via an online portal, which makes it tough to stand out when you have thousands of other people applying just by clicking a mouse. In my experience there is a flurry of jobs in mid-August because people quit/retire/find other jobs. Plus all school systems are focusing right now on what September will look like and staffing is not their priority at the moment.

I totally relate to feeling worse when your H gets a clean bill of health, it’s hard to know you are the “problem” even though it isn’t our fault that biology is biased against women!

@emeraldduchess I’m so sorry that job didn’t work out but hopefully it’s because something even better is just around the corner. I think you are right that there will be a hiring explosion next month after districts figure out what school is going to look like. Have you considered/looked into teaching a learning pod? Those are popping up like crazy here and all the pod moms are looking for qualified teachers (and seem to be willing to pay commensurate with school teaching salaries).

@keikilove I think I will probably practice law forever, but hopefully once I finally pay off my student loans (currently set for 2024) I can find a less demanding firm or go in house. I can’t envision myself working as hard as I do now for 5+ more years, the burnout is real. I am keeping everything crossed for you that you are able to move forward with treatment and Covid doesn’t mess anything up for you. That’s a great sign that cases are down in your area. Yay for being done with BC in the meantime!

@acleverusername I think assuming everything looks good with my body and the blasts, I would want to transfer as soon as possible, but if we have to wait another month to maximize our chances I won’t be too disappointed. I was the same as you re: moving forward with testing/RE quickly. I knew after 5 unsuccessful (and weird) cycles that something was off with my body, and at 36 I didn’t see any point in waiting any longer to confirm that. Glad you had such a great call and a good plan to move forward!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI with 5 mg letrozole

How are things going?: Great! Just got back from my 2nd monitoring appointment. My lining is about 8.3 mm and I have 2 follies on the left- 23 and 26 mm! They drew bloodwork today to check my LH and once we have that result we can plan when the IUI will happen and if I’ll do a trigger or not. The Dr. Thinks the IUI will probably be tomorrow or Saturday. I’m on vacation for 3 weeks starting today so this is perfect timing! Can’t wait to finally do summer things and just relax in the sun!

GTKY: What’s the greatest adventure you’ve ever had? 3 weeks travelling around Europe! I can’t wait to go back one day. I really want to spend more time in Italy and there are so many places we didn’t have the chance to see.. Greece and Prague are high on my list. I really miss travelling right now, but all our money is going into fertility treatment right now anyway..

@acleverusername glad the thread helped - this is what we're here for! I would have been so lost if not for the IF warriors who helped me navigate the process back when we started. It sounds like you've got a good plan to move forward. Happy that you've found an RE that you click with - at the end of the day I think that's just as important as comparing stats, etc. Our RE doesn't have the fanciest clinic and the best stats but he is equal parts transparent, knowledgeable and personable that we really feel like he has our best interests in mind and we trust him to guide us without pushing his own agenda. Have heard a lot of stories of people whose Drs pushed them too hard to make sure their stats still looked good (e.g. wanted as many eggs as possible vs. less but higher quality, etc).
@bluetickgal oh friend, that's so wonderful to hear that your adoption meeting went well and that you feel good about your plan to move forward with your medicated IUIs before closing this chapter to pursue adoption. Your stories about you and YH have always been so heartwarming, I just love your love! You're going to be wonderful parents

@misshelen86 ohhh FX FX for your IUI!! Hope you thoroughly enjoy your 3 weeks off to relax and unwind and do all the things that make your heart happy.

AFM, appt went well yesterday. SHG just confirmed what we already knew from the first one - I have a tilted uterus, but thanks to the mock transfer we know that we have a clear path through my cervix and my RE is more than familiar with my *ahem* anatomy down there by now so he's not concerned about that at all. Said it's fairly common in around 14% of women. I have a slight 4mm uterine septum but again, not a concern because it's barely there and since we're doing IVF he gets to choose the best spot to implant the embryo (which is right in the nice cushy spot where he did the biopsy yesterday, with the idea that by "scratching" the surface of the uterus it promotes blood flow and cell regeneration which has been shown to increase implantation rates). No polyps, my fibroid is subserosal so it's on the outside of my ute and won't affect my fertility. We had always said that we'll leave it until I'm done having babies then we can have it removed (or my OB said if I ever have a c-section he can remove it while he's in there).

So now we WFAF! My RE said he'll even give me his personal cell phone # so that if I have any spotting or if I have any concerns then I am to text him immediately. Who does that?!
