@ashtuesday I want to cut back on screen time so bad but it’s hard!! I think once we move and we don’t have a TV in the living room or play room it’ll be a lot easier. I hope
@ashtuesday I think the tantrums are just this age. Declan is having them quite regularly. We are doing time outs and he will sit there forever because he doesn’t want to apologize. He’s also started biting.
We just bought two packs of underwear- I let him pick and we ended up with baby shark and toy story. He only wore them one day and no refuses.
So all of us are having fun between screen time, tantrums, bedtimes and stubbornness. 😂 At least we’re not alone. Maeve frustrates us because she’ll just point and make a sound/grunt for something she wants. We say “use your words” and she says “no words, no words!”
@mccurleya I’m super guilty with screen time - but I also know it won’t really change because I find comfort in the noise. I feel like this summer is going to be a little hard overall with activities and things. We’re definitely at an age now. @ashtuesday - i agree about hoping certain parts are short lived.
@megpeg We do a lot of time outs too - Nora says sorry right away but then has a meltdown when that doesn't negate the consequence she's received.
@shoretobe I lol-ed at the idea of Maeve saying "No words!" when you tell her to use them - that is too funny and adorable!
I'm writing from the other side of three days of potty training, and it went pretty well! Day 1, Nora was VERY into it (mostly because we let her drink juice all day and got her gummy bears as a reward) and was asking to go to the potty every 12 minutes. I saw my whole life (or at least my whole summer!) flash before my eyes, thinking it would always be that way lol. But yesterday, the allure wore off - she was even a bit resistant. At a point, 15 minutes after she had gone to the bathroom, my husband said "Let us know when you need to go potty" and she responded "I just WENT potty" lol - she was obviously annoyed with us badgering her all day and pressuring her to go. Today was a better balance: we eased up a bit, she didn't put up any fights, told us when she had to go. I think we've got a good foundation, although there's a way to go. The intense three days actually felt like a good shock to the system in purging our TV time (we only let her watch in like 10-minute intervals immediately after using the potty) and thinking about my own focus on them (I've been too into my phone and need to cut that).
@ashtuesday i am jealous you got that far! He still is screaming no as soon as he sees underwear. I am giving up for a bit. He is still going on the potty when I change him.
@shoretobe We have her in underwear all day. It's probably unfair to say she fully peed on our floors lol - she'll say "Dripping!!!" when she realizes she's peeing and then we'll run to the bathroom and she finishes in there. Poop, we're pretty good about knowing when she has to go - 1/3 of the time she'll happily poop on the potty, the rest she refuses 🤷🏻♀️
@shoretobe when I do a diaper change I just ask him if he wants to go potty and take him in. He likes to sit backwards because he feels safer. He likes to go at least a little so he gets to flush. If he can’t go he gets mad and says “it’s broken!”
I feel like today is craziness at my house.. “No, Declan do it,” is the theme of the day. Clipping his car seat, wanting to put on his own diaper, wanting the remote for himself.
