I hope everyone is well. We have had a stressful few days. We live in the area of all the flooding in Michigan. We are lucky to live far enough from the river that we didn’t have to worry about our house but weren’t sure about my husbands office. He went yesterday morning and made sure all electrical equipment and their server was safe and when he went to come home they had closed the bridge and instead of a 10 minute drive it was 1.5 hours. It will take that long until the river recedes and they can inspect bridges.
@megpeg first, I’m so happy to hear your family is ok and that you didn’t have to worry about your home. How scary though! I only heard a little about it, but I’m sorry your family is being impacted. What does it mean for your hubby’s office?
Thankfully the water stayed a block back from his office. He has had to drive the long drive the last two days but the water has receded and they are hoping to open the bridge today.
@mccurleya agreed. I’m also tired of feeling guilty for going to my parents house or to get a curbside coffee. I feel very out of sorts with my split schedule of going to work / working from home.
My doctors appointments are all really rushed and sucky too. My mind just can’t understand this world we’re living in and how different it is depending on your location.
On another note: Maeve’s been really into firetrucks/sirens lately so we took her see a small parade type thing this morning. She was beside herself waving and laughing “hi firetruck!!!!!!!” It’s all she could talk about for a while after. And of course I start crying and get all choked up because this kid is SO dang excited to see fire trucks, and how great is that?
Nate has been super clingy all of a sudden. He refuses to sleep in his own bed. So he’s been staying in ours for several hours before going back to his.
We’re also looking to buy a new house. I worry it’ll confuse him and make him upset if we move. Have any of you moved with little ones before? How did they handle it?
@shoretobe That is so dang cute!!! I'm with you on the crying - I am constantly wiping away tears being in awe of N and M. It is so lame and so real lol. I'm sorry your appointments have been like that - so much is so weird right now, and having that weirdness impact your pregnancy has to be so hard to deal with.
I'm tired of quarantining, but we keep on keeping on. We went to my mom's house for a barbeque on Saturday. My brother came too; my mom was JUBILANT to have us over even though we tried to stay distant outside (she even set up a separate table for us to eat at), and Nora was on cloud nine. I feel guilty going there - my husband still goes into work occasionally and my mom is high-risk - but it made her and the girls so happy, and damn, I like being with my mom too.
@mccurleya We moved when Nora was 3 months old, so I don't think that's any help, but how exciting! Are you moving to a completely new town or just getting a different house in the same area? I imagine it'll impact him differently depending on how much of his life is changing at once.
My family has come over and we just mostly stay outside. My grandparents are in their late 80s and decided seeing my kids would be good for their mental health. My Grandma has been doing much better since she saw them.
We can gather with social distancing now so my MIL had a bonfire on Saturday and we went. The kids really needed it and were happy to play with their cousins.
@mccurleya we moved when my oldest was 1.5 and when he was 3. We moved to my parents first when DH was finishing Chiropractic school and we moved to our current house second. He was so excited to pick out colors for his new room and have more space. If you are excited they will be to usually.
Maybe he can sense change is coming and that’s why he’s clingy right now.
@mccurleya - Maeve’s been cuddly/clingy too. I think @megpeg has an excellent point that they are sensing things have changed/are changing.
I think if everyone is being aware and doing what they can to be safe then it’s good to be with your family/people - we all need it. This has been a very long/weird spring. Hoping for a more, dare I say, “normal”, summer.
@ashtuesday different town. He’ll still go to 2 year old preschool and daycare where he currently goes because I’ll still work here. But we won’t live next door to my in laws anymore so he won’t get to see them every day. But it’s a WAY better place for a family.
@megpeg if we let him choose a color now, he’d choose pink. Nothing wrong with that, but I’m not painting any wall pink 😂 maybe we can let him choose some new sheets for his bed and which room he wants since he’s the only child and there’s 2 to choose from.
@megpeg hahahaha I cannot imagine that. There’s a really pretty room with high wainscoting and navy blue paint on top. We may put him in there and then let him choose some cool sheets. Like paw patrol or something. We’re still using basic crib sheets right now
@mccurleya - that’s so exciting about finding a new house (didn’t realize you had a place). I think that’s a great idea to let him choose the sheets and some other easily swappable stuff. Yay for you guys!!
@megpeg OMG, what a cute pup!!! You all are gonna have such a fun summer with him!! All is well here. We've gotten out a bit more - mostly just distanced visits to see our families. Now that things are finally opening up, we might get more adventurous soon!
@megpeg so cute. Are the pup and Declan best friends?? That’s the best @mccurleya that’s so exciting!! Will you move right away or set up first? @ashtuesday that’s nice you’ve been able to get some visits in - it seems the restaurants with outside dinning have been working well near me
we’re just waiting for baby.... It’ll be sometime in the next week because they won’t let me go past 39 weeks because I’m over 35 (I never knew that) plus I’m not able to be induced with meds because of having a c-section with Maeve (also something I never knew) - so I’m learning a lot.
Maeve was born at 40w2d and I don’t feel like this baby is interested in going anywhere. As I understand we’ll be scheduling a c-section. I’m a little disappointed, but keep telling myself if it’s safer for the baby then it’s ok. I just hate how some people make moms feel like less for having a c-section...but I suppose I have to remember their opinions shouldn’t effect me or the health of the baby.
I really hope everyone is off to a happy start to their summer! It’s finally warm here (so maybe it’s a blessing this will be my last week pregnant).
Oh my gosh!!!!!! I just realized it was about three years ago we found out Declan, Nora, Nate and Maeve were on the way. How did that happen!?
@shoretobe That’s crazy that it’s been three years!!!! I didn’t know any of that stuff either. It’s so weird how much things change because you’re over 35.
@mccurleya that’s so exciting! We did the same when we got our house.
@shoretobe YAY!!!! You are so close to baby!!! Will be thinking of you and your family over these next few days. A c-section doesn't make you any less of anything; like you said, it's about doing what's safest for baby - and you. So excited for Maeve to become a big sister!
Darby was born yesterday, June 23 at 10:32 am after a weird night of false labor, followed by my water breaking after we were sent home.
We were scheduled for a repeat section today at 10:30 but she was ready a day early.
We go home tomorrow - and she will meet Maeve. This is worse than I remember recovery being with Maeve - but Darby is healthy and so far a sleeping machine.
Thanks for all the positive comments. Hope you’re all doing well.
Congratulations, @shoretobe!!!!! Darby is so beautiful!!! I'm sorry recovery is rough right now - I hope things improve quickly and that your family can help you in the meantime. I can't wait to hear about Maeve's reaction to meeting her sister!!! Enjoy those newborn snuggles ❤️
Maeve loved her coming in, but for the most part is indifferent. Funny enough - she only really minds when my mom is holding the baby.
@mccurleya do you close next week? Are you getting excited?
@megpeg how’s the new puppy? Is summer better for you all now that you’re not having homeschool?
@ashtuesday have you guys ventured out? Some of the outside dining looks great. Still feels like they’re canceling a lot down this way (like fireworks).
@shoretobe they also cancelled our firework show. Which I get but fireworks are my favorite.
We close on the 7th. I’m very excited! But we haven’t sold our current house. We had some cousins set up to buy it and they backed out. So I’m a little concerned about that.
@ashtuesday How is it up north? I feel like everyone in GA is over this stuff and isn’t following guidelines anymore. I’m over it too but wondered how the big cities are doing.
I've still been pretty cautious about venturing out, but it seems like most people are over it here too. People are pretty good in public - wearing masks and staying distant at the grocery store - but I've found that so many of my friends and family are just living their normal lives: socializing, no masks, no distance. My husband and I keep asking ourselves if we're crazy. We've been seeing our parents a bit more, and still trying to distance, but... idk man. We haven't had our babysitter come in months, but we're talking to her today to finally get a date night underway. And we signed up for our town pool, which is opening with limited capacity, just so I'll have somewhere outdoors to take the girls during the summer.
In other news: next weekend, we officially potty train Nora! She's been using the potty a few times a day since the fall, but didn't seem ready to fully potty train until about April. With Murph moving into her room and the chaos of working from home, we decided to wait until summer (it is officially, FINALLY summer for me!!). I just read "Potty Train in 3 Days" and we're ready to use the long weekend to dive in, but I have to say: I'm really in my feelings about it! As nice as it will be for her to be out of diapers, it just means that she is REALLY a big kid now.
@mccurleya I hope you're able to sell your house soon! That has to be stressful. I think a lot of people who were planning on buying got delayed due to Covid, so I hope that means there will be lots of interest when you put your house on the market!
@ashtuesday good luck on the date night! And congratulations on finally getting to summer break!! I know it’s a relief. And also good luck on potty training. We’re still working on it with Nate, so I hope the 3 days works for you.
@shoretobe She is beautiful and I love that name! new puppy is going pretty well. We went camping this weekend for the first time this year and had three kids and 2 dogs.
My older dog got attacked while we were walking. It was super scary- luckily it was just me an the two dogs. This huge pit bull mix saw her and just went nuts and ran full power and snapped his tie out. She just froze and all he got was fur. I let go of both leashes not being sure what to do. Rogue took off under a parked vehicle to hide. Luckily all turned out well. @ashtuesday Potty training can be done in three days(I did it with my nephew right after he turned three) but make sure not to push too hard. Their bladders sometimes do t work right until they are three. That being said I just bought two packs of underwear and let Declan pick them out so maybe he would want to wear them- toy story and baby shark.
@mccurleya hopefully now that people are returning to their normal your house will sell quickly for you. I’m near a beach town and it’s like regular summer here with traffic and crowds. It seems some people are wearing masks and others are looking just to have their summer.
@megpeg I would have been so scared then so angry! I’m glad you and the dogs are ok. Did the people even apologize?
@ashtuesday good luck with potty training. I’m planning on working on that with Maeve while I’m off...just hoping she shows an interest soon. Keep us posted how the three days works. How does potty training work for overnight? The town pool sounds nice - I think it will be good to have somewhere to go. I think they’re restarting lessons here in July.
Thank you, ladies again for your support. I’m finally feeling more myself and not in as much pain. I think I was a bit sad realizing Darby will be our last. Because of COVID and some other things this pregnancy and birth were so odd and different.
Is anyone else having trouble with bedtime now that it’s summer or is it us out of sink because there’s been such a big change at our house?
@shoretobe the owners were freaking out they apologized and kept asking if she was ok.
I am glad you are feeling better. I am sure healing is twice as rough when you have 2 little ones.
We decided last night we needed to get back to a better bedtime. Everyone went to bed at 10 instead of 11(except me.)
My kids always had a hard time with bladder control at bedtime and wore sleeping diapers for a while. My nephew who is five still does because he sleeps really hard and doesn’t wake up.
@megpeg That had to be so scary!!! I would have fully freaked out. Potty training is going to take a delicate hand - Nora is VERY stubborn (as are my husband and I). But she's ready: she uses the potty multiple times a day as it is and her diaper is dry most nights, but we bought Pull-Ups for overnight to be safe.
@shoretobe I'm glad you're feeling better! I can imagine how you must feel. We're waiting to have one more, but the ache for a newborn is still very real at times. You're allowed to feel sad. And yes, bedtime is definitely rougher now that it's summer. The girls usually went to bed around 7-7:30, now it's more like 8.
In other news, Nora's entered a fun tantrum phase. I think it's because we're cutting down on screen time: it went off the rails while we were both working from home, and now I'm trying to rein it in. Throwing things, hitting, throwing herself on the floor, crying, screaming. Joy! Hopefully it will be short-lived.

@mccurleya Good luck with the move!

we plan to stay the night on air mattresses the night we close, then clean the next day, then move everything in the next. We’re excited!
