    • 11 weeks~ I have normally high blood pressure I keep in check without meds, but since I've been pregnant I just can't keep in in check and that's even with labetalol. But newest symptoms are feeling dizzy/lightheaded/like-my-bodh-and-soul-instantly-separated-and -came-back-togethed-but-sometbing-is-off-and-the'fit-just-isnt-right. Ooh... And onions(smell/taste), and pizza(except French bread pizza?) and tried chicks ,Instantly make me vomit. Found those out the hard way...
  • Im 12 weeks tomorrow and I've been feeling slightly better for the last 3 days. Curious to see if its for real. I was expecting another 4 weeks of utter misery based on my last pregnancy.
So ready for this to be it though!
Anyway thought this might give hope to those who are in the midst of it
  • I woke up this morning with this strange feeling and just wondering if anyone else has ever felt this before? It feels like I can’t get a deep breathe and every time I breathe in it hurts in this slight pain in my back and ribs. It only feels like that when I try and breathe in. Its this achy like pressure. It’s the weirdest feeling. I’m not sure what this would be? 🤷‍♀️
  • @tryingktogku yes! This is my second baby so I chalked it up to that. My pants don’t fit after lunch anymore  good thing I mostly wear sweats now!

@willashbaby I’m starting to feel better too! I’m 10+3 and ready to feel better! I’m still sooooooooo exhausted though.
  • Lately during pregnancy I have been feeling very alone and sad and depressed and like all I wanna do is cry all the time. Is this normal??
  • @mindyb2019 I think it’s something to be very aware of and open with your doctor about. For whatever reason I felt the same in my last pregnancy. I would cry almost daily especially towards the end because I was fearful of not being able to protect her as well once she was born. It felt ridiculous but I couldn’t shake those thoughts. So definitely bring it up to your doctor, if it persists you two may decide that counseling or medication could be beneficial to you. *hugs*
  • @BmcD2016 thank you.. the thing is I'm not fearful at all about not being able to protect he/she once they are born. I dont even have those thoughts at all. I think I'm just generally unhappy, sad and depressed lately which isn't like me at all. It worries me. Is it all the hormones?
  • @mindyb2019 The hormones could certainly be exacerbating things, but there may be something at the root of those feelings that is fixable. Definitely worth talking to someone! Hopefully your doctor can recommend someone who can help. Luckily there are lots of virtual help options these days.
  • @mindyb2019 theres a thing called prenatal depression. Research it a bit. In any case, the change a first pregnancy can do to a woman can be difficult for all aspects including mental but i'd say if youre really truly feeling depression, it's not "normal". it's also nothing to be ashamed about. I would seek out professional help. No need to suffer alone.
  • @mindyb2019 whatever the root cause of that sad and depressed feeling is, it’s good that you’re noticing it. I just know in my case, that’s what I was afraid of and it just presented itself as extreme sadness and irritability all the time. Like I had said, just let your doctor know and they’ll have good ideas for next steps of course. And also we’re here too to talk to :)

Ok ladies. I’m finally jumping in here because I’m going crazy. I tried to search the thread but my app is acting up- I just saw I’m not the only one with this....

The constant lump in my upper chest/throat- even when I eat like the tiniest thing! I’m going crazy dealing with the nausea and this constant feeling of being totally over stuffed. Had anyone found something to help with it? B6 just isn’t doing the trick for me and it doesn’t budge with tums... I’d love to hear is anyone has found a way to help!
  • @jchpg no idea about the lump but what week are you? For me nothing helps with nausea until the hormone settles and only time can do that 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • @jchpg I had that same feeling for about a month straight every time I ate more than 2 bites of something. It was like the food simply wouldn’t go down. It would last about 1 hour after I ate. I’m 11w today and I think I noticed it going away on its own starting about 4-5 days ago. B6 didn’t help me either. My OB recommended Dramamine as the next step if B6 wasn’t working, but B6 also has to be taken every 6 hours to be effective and I just couldn’t stand multiple pills. I never took Dramamine either it because it makes me tired. Maybe call yours to see what they can offer up?

Overall I’ve started feeling a lot better in the past week. I’m a little nervous to lose the worst symptoms, but major major bloating post-eating has taken the place of nausea and I’m also waking up at 5am ish almost every day (hence this post) and can’t fall back asleep for an hour or so. So thankful I’m wfh. Also feeling like a giant. My boobs are huge (new bras arrive tomorrow). My hips just feel excessively round. It doesn’t help that I’ve been too sick to exercise for about a month. I went to an outlet mall this weekend (in a mask) and got a bunch of new yoga pants and pajamas in a range of bigger sizes and a few simple cotton dresses with some room to grow. My regular clothes still fit but are feeling tight so I don’t think I’ve got a ton of time left in them.

@jelososhervy and @shelmcclel I’m 12 week and not seeing a sign of reduced symptoms  :(
I suppose each pregnancy is different so I might just need to push through! I have my 12 week appointment today so I’ll have to see if Dr has any ideas for tricks. But I suppose it will just be to eat small portions often. Ugh.

@jchpg It's a type of heartburn. I Googled it like crazy because I've never had what I'd think heartburn should feel like, just that lump. I had luck with Tums, but perhaps you need something stronger? It drove me nuts the other week, particularly when combined with nausea since I felt like it was the vomit coming up my throat (it wasn't, but felt that way and made me gag).

I've felt a lot better over the past week, with reduced nausea and fatigue. Still have some abdominal pain (nothing concerning, I think it's my muscles stretching since it mostly hurts when I twist or sneeze) and my breasts are a little sore, though not as sore as last time. Appetite is also getting smaller. I had one day where I was ravenous, but most days it's hard for me to eat a full meal.

I'm also mystified how I can have a bump while not gaining weight. It's not super obvious since I'm not thin to begin with, it's just that normally I can suck it in or cover it up with Spanx whereas now it's just always there.
  • @akoros I also have a growing bump but haven’t put on weight according to the scale. I’m starting to get a little nervous. I know I lost a couple in the first tri because of nausea but really thought it’d be back by now.
  • gh1219gh1219 member
@akoros @laurenspdx I third the growing bump but no extra weight.  I lost 6 lbs in the first 10 weeks and have been steady since.  My doc told me not to worry about it, just follow the direction of my body's wants and needs.  I'm 12+ weeks now, just trying to follow her instructions and not think about it.  Measuring infrequently at this point since I feel good and am eating much more consistently.
  • Im confused as to why you guys would expect to gain weight just because you have a bump, meanwhile the fetus weighs around 14 grams at 12 weeks.

@jchpg yes every is different! Last preg i felt better at 15 weeks. This time i feel better a bit before 12

@jelososhervy you're correct, the baby is a small portion of overall weight gain, which can be evidenced easiest by an averageish weight woman gaining 30lb for a 7.5lb baby.  Other sources of weight gain include increased breast size, the placenta, amniotic fluid, enlarged uterus, increased generalized fat stores, and a large expansion in circulating blood volume.  Certainly many of these changes are underway at the end of the first trimester, resulting in many women gaining a few pounds. It's not confusing to me that some of us feel these numerous changes in our bodies and are therefore apprehensive if we don't see a change on the scale quite yet.

    Edit clarity
  • I’m 8w5d. In week 7 I had the worst nausea I’ve ever had and this is my third pregnancy. But now the nausea is back to a more manageable, lingering nausea (feels more like a hangover) that I had in weeks 5-6. Anyone’s nausea subside pretty dramatically in week 8? I’ve read that nausea peaks around week 9 so was fully expecting to feel terrible this week.
  • I feel like it’s a big psych out mostly when your stomach is growing but your number on the scale is shrinking. I’ve been trying to not weigh myself or look at the doctor because I get very anxious about weight.
  • @boymom518 I was similar! Mine probably peaked closer to week 7. Then by weeks 8-9 I was having fewer bad days and some normal days in between. It made me nervous because I also heard the peak was coming later but it was all fine.

Also think it’s fair to think it’s weird that my body is objectively bigger but the number is the same. I know it doesn’t all come from the fetus. I k ow it’s probably ok but it is just an odd thing to see especially when trying to get back on track after a rough first tri.

@akoros yes as soon as I mentioned it to my doc, he said it’s absolutely a form of heart burn, more from inflammation and this is why I don’t feel the acid. He recommended I take a daily OTC acid blocker. I’m going to give it a try. Otherwise he said, it should subside by 16-18 weeks.... ugh.

For the convo on weight, I am starting my pregnancy a bit overweight and doc says as long as I am eating something and keep up with water and vitamins it’s best not to pay attention to the scale. It’s ok if I don’t gain or even loose- which has been happening bc I can’t stomach much. I had this same situation with my DD and I was told just make sure to stay hydrated and take my pre-natal vitamins. She came out just fine and I didn’t gain over 15lbs the whole pregnancy. I just couldn’t eat much.
  • I have been weighing myself daily, but I lost 16lbs in the first month of my pregnancy.  So I am just trying to keep an eye on it.  I know my Dr will want to discuss it tomorrow, so just trying to prepare for that conversation.  I was a little fluffy when this started, so not concerned overall.  Just keeping an eye on it to make sure I am holding steady.  Vitamins for the win!

For the weight conversation... I weighed 13lbs less when I gave birth to DS than when I got pregnant and he was a good size. I’m plus size anyways and my Dr wasn’t excited but I legit was sick so much and then the GD diet was very much part of that

  • @jbal918 I’ve been considering my pillow situation and I don’t want to throw money at another pregnancy pillow this time. I think I may just buy several firm pillows to prop around me as needed.
  • jchpgjchpg member
@jbal918 i just got one from Amazon today and I’m disappointed. It’s not firm enough. I had one from DDs pregnancy that was awesome but I can’t find it in the US, the filling was made from small styrofoam balls. I’m sure it’s horrible for the environment but it was AMAZING for support. I wish I could have brought it with me when I moved, but it took up too much space. If anyone has found something like this let me know where!
  • ugh... my belly feels soo bloated all the time weither I eat or not. Also my back has been hurting so much lately everyday. Does anyone else's back hurt at all?

@gh1219 yes, thank you for that perfect explanation. I guess for me being generally underweight, all I have now is bigger boobs and the tiniest bump. But my poor thighs and butt are gone! I lost a lot of weight, a bit more than last pregnancy, but only started gaining in the middle of my second trimester so I guess I don't expect to gain yet either.
Last time I was skinny shamed every time I stood on the scale at the doctor's office, which I don't think is okay especially for pregnant women- whether they have too little or too much weight. We all have different bodies.
I guess I just meant, I don't find it worrisome that we aren't gaining our weight back just yet.
And yeah, I ended up having a very healthy pregnancy and baby.
  • @mindyb2019 yes! Lower back.  It's been  a dull ache almost since I took the pregnancy test! I am hoping it doesn't get more intense as the pregnancy progresses.  Swimming would really help it feel better I thunk,  but all the pools are currently closed :(

@jbal918 dh got me an awesome one last pregnancy,  it is like a huge snake and takes up half the bed,  but  totally helped me get more comfortable as my belly got bigger and my hips needed more support. I highly suggest getting one of you can't get comfortable sleeping.  I haven't pulled mine out quite yet this time.

  • This is the best body pillow I'v ever owned, and I've been using them as a side sleeper since I was a kid. You'll have it forever. I have 2 pillow protectors and a case on it so I never feel any pokes. https://www.cuddledown.com/itemdy00.aspx?T1=Z1092+100+22&srccode=NXCZC6&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=pla&utm_campaign=2014&gclid=Cj0KCQjwn7j2BRDrARIsAHJkxmwcmoiCWTPuw14wEglZi3P8X41PlqmLgEziSTF5J0H3oj1LlcdTh0waAuMAEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

For pregnancy pillows - I bought a snoogle last time and really liked it.  I'm pretty close to breaking it out - I keep ended up sleeping on my stomach and wake up because it's not comfortable for very long.  The snoogle really helped me to stay in one position comfortably.

The symptom currently bothering me is my nipples hurting.  The general boob soreness has died down but my nipples are super sensitive.  Preparing for nursing again!

Regarding weight, it's not worrisome to me, I'm more just intrigued as to how my stomach (and other things) can be bigger, but there's no additional weight. Is it just weightless gas? Is it eating up fat elsewhere in my body at a rate that replaces it with whatever's happening up front (please please please eat my excess fat)? I know the baby itself weighs barely anything at this point, but fat/muscle/fluid does have mass and should presumably show up somewhere. I'm also the type who can put on pounds just thinking about pizza, so I think I (unrealistically) anticipated crazy weight gain from the get-go just because my body hates me. I swear, I could gain weight in a famine.

Since it doesn't cause me anxiety I'm tracking my weight as I normally do. Pre-pregnancy I definitely could have stood to lose a few pounds (or 15-20), so while I don't want to stress too much about it I also don't want to pack on too much weight if it can be helped since I'm concerned that my body would have trouble supporting an additional 30-40lbs.
  • Just know ladies that your doctor/midwife will keep a close eye on your weight and advise you if need be. If weighing yourself is causing any anxiety it’s time to put away the scale and let the professionals do the monitoring. As long as you’re getting enough fluids and eating a well rounded diet to the best of your ability baby will be fine!

I keep waking up on my stomach and then I have so much pressure. I roll over to my side and when I lay on my back in feel the pressure again so I’m hoping I can find a good pillow!

  • @jbal918 my snoogle keeps me on my side because I was doing the exact same thing!
  • jbal918jbal918 member
@tryingktogku I’m going to try the snoogle! The one I had last time sucked lol
