I feel like we’ve made no progress on names. We definitely had DD1’s name by now (we actually had her first and middle picked out really early but we switched them somewhere along the line).

@catem07 Are you trying out names out loud? Taking days to use each one to refer to baby girl and see if anything sounds right? You also might just need to meet her before you know
I agree that trying names helped us. Some would stick for an hour. Some might make it a few days before either my husband or I gave up on it and tried something else. The one we’re on now has stuck for over a month so I think it’s the winner, but there’s still time to change our minds, so we’ll see.
@sunshinesea22 We should try that. We don't share names with people we actually know, though, so I don't want DD1 to pick up on anything. Maybe I'll try talking to baby though.
The names I'm currently debating are Amelia and Claire.

@catem07 Both adorable names...is your DD capable of understanding that it’s a game? And only the three of you are allowed to play? Or else just using it when she’s not around would probably work just fine.
@catem07 we were trying out names and DS picked up on one that we have now decided not to use...and he is still (after about a month of changing it) adamant about the baby having the previous name. He actually gets really upset when we correct him, so now we just tell him that he can call the baby his name as a nickname...I'm sure eventually it will be fine but definitely a sore subject right now in our house.
@catem07 I love both of those names! DD1 is Clara, but we went back and forth between that and Claire for a while before settling. And Amelia was one that we considered for this baby.
I think we finally picked our names today on our long drive, there's definitely time for them to change, but for a boy Ezra Russell and a girl either Magnolia Marie or Magnolia Louise.
@jhysmath I love Magnolia! DH and I were talking about using it as a middle name, but it doesn't fit well with our chosen first name. So pretty though.
@chewie5990 we liked Ezra a lot when we were naming our first, but a coworker just hand a baby in August and named him Ezra (which if you watch pretty little liars it's actually funnier, because he's an English teacher and is married to a former student), but if MH is going to give me Magnolia I'll let him have Ezra or coworker is moving this year so we won't see him after this, and we might be moving from this town as well.
@ruby696 I really like Magnolia because it was the tree that symbolized my grandmother. My grandparents had two trees in their front yard, a Magnolia that was expensive that her sons bought her, and then my grandfather went into the woods dug up a spruce and planted it next to it saying you don't need fancy expensive trees. They both grew very large throughout my child hood, but after they both passed and the house was sold the new owners chopped the trees down. The smell of magnolias still remind me of playing in the tree at Easter.
@jhysmath That makes me so sad - I can't believe they chopped them down. We planted a Tulip Magnolia in our front yard when we bought our house and that tree is one of the reasons I really don't want to move. Although with soon to be four kids, we'll probably have to.
@jhysmath That's super helpful, thank you! We are probably going to lose our magnolia tree in the spring, it split and a huge branch came down under snow weight at the beginning of the winter and I don't think it's healthy anymore. I've been gutted at the thought of losing it, I'll definitely give cuttings a try.
We are sticking to our first name but we are fighting about middle. Middle we want to use a family name like with DS1 (his middle name is my grandpas name) and I was thinking 2 middle names for this LO (my step dads first name and DFs dads middle name) but DF doesn’t want to do 2 so we are stuck.
Am I the only one whose baby has no name?! DH won’t agree to anything yet and I have a shortlist with a clear cut favorite but he doesn’t want to name him that because his high school friends brother’s two sons would be named the same sibling set names as our two boys and he only knows their names because of social media. So I am waiting on him to propose a “better” name, which he has not.
My short list is: Griffin (what I want), Paxton, Dalton, Finley and Oakley.
@JStill0603 does he have a short list that is different to yours or is he ok with all the names on your list? Can you maybe narrow it down to a top three between the two of you and decide at birth when you get to meet him and know that you will be ok with any of those 3?
@JStill0603 Well that's annoying. 🙄 We have finally confirmed names. We order a personalized baby blanket for each of our kids. Once the blanket is ordered it's official - which is silly, because honestly, who cares about $50 if you change your mind? But it seems to work for us. We got baby boy's blanket last week and I just ordered baby girl's today.
@JStill0603 we have no idea 😂 we have barely even discussed it. I would say we like the same broad categories of names but the devil is in the details and we haven't wanted to hammer it out.
@JStill0603 and @allie456 Our second wasn't named until 3 days after birth. Oops! Also, don't recommend, because by then some awful nickname will spring up either at your home or a family member's home, and it will be hard to kill that nickname after.

@m6agua Emmett was one of my favorites for DS1 and DF hates it 😢😭 so that’s my vote for you lol.
@JStill0603 also Paxton is one of my favorite names, I taught the sweetest boy named Paxton and have loved the name since. DS1s name is the first kid I really bonded with and the only name DF and I were oh I like it so that is how we decided 😂
@ruby696 LOL. MH picked baby girl’s name and started to doubt it last week. I’ve been calling her this since mid December, so I ordered her custom blanket last week. As soon as he saw it he said he was so glad because he still loves it and seeing it on something helped confirm it.
@JStill0603 we just decided on our names during a 12 hour car ride. Perhaps try one of those With DD we didn't have boy name ready until we were driving to the scheduled c-section.
@m6agua What nicknames would you use with Emmett? It's one of MH's favorite names but I keep shooting it down because it doesn't have a nickname. Well now that I've given him Ezra I realize there is no nickname there either, so maybe I can let him have his favorite name, and if we have an Emmett he might not push having an Emma which I just can't get with because of a student I had.
@jhysmath For us we didn't think it mattered if there was a nickname. In fact we tend to prefer names that don't have an obvious nickname, so their name is just their name.
@m6agua I love both of those names! Can't go wrong with either in my opinion.
@pirateduck@jhysmath we picked both DS1 and DS2 name's based on the natural nickname, but FWIW I have a name that has a "natural" nickname, but I've always gone by my full first name so who knows what will happen!
I think we finally nailed down our name. Penelope Jean. I love the nicknames that come with Penelope, but specifically, I like "Nellie." I'm not sure if it will stick or not, since there are so many (Penny, Pen, Nel, Poppy). Jean was my middle name before I got married, and my mom's middle name as well. And also, she will have the same initials as DH, which is pretty fun too!
@jhysmath everyone calls DS "Ezzy" as a nickname for Ezra - I don't know how long it will stick as he gets older though...but it's pretty cute when his little 4 year old classmates call him Ezzy even if he grows out of it by the time he goes to elementary
