I don't know if it's the Italian food I had last night or internal organs shifting but I was feeling almost cute about my bump and then the top half of my stomach region bloated last night post meal and I'm salty about it. Going to drink lots of water/eat reasonably well today but MAN I was almost to the point of wanting to wear cute maternity things I bought to highlight the bump and now I'm just back to feeling chunky.
On a positive note, H and I did some deep clean/organizing things this weekend and our house is starting to tiptoe towards baby ready. Here's hoping it will be there soon!
@pocketrose I had Italian last night too and paid dearly in bloat so let’s go with that
DS got a haircut this weekend and looks like such a little man now... I just can’t get over how he doesn’t look like a baby or toddler, but more like a kid. Also the three year old attitude is killing me, I don’t know how to discipline him because it’s too damn funny and cute.
I have someone coming over on Sunday to give me an estimate for cleaning our house every other week. I cannot wait. We do fine with the general pickup stuff, but deeper cleaning like dusting, windows, baseboards and deep cleaning bathrooms and floors would be fantastic if someone else could just take care of that.
My daughter's show choir took home a first place trophy for their division at contest this weekend! I was sick and couldn't go, but my husband went and took video and pictures. So proud of her. They practice about 6 hours each week and have had multiple camp weekends to get to this point. Plus, I have to share a pic because she's so beautiful. ❤ She is 14, a freshman, and this is her first year in show choir. She loves it!
@footdrbritt DS is about to turn 2 next week and we haven’t cut his hair yet. It’s long and crazy and curly (on a good day), but it’s verging on mullet territory right about now. Definitely due for a cut, but I know he’s going to look so different and more like a kid instead of my baby 😭.
@modoodles I’ve been tossing around the idea of having someone come to clean for a while. Like you said, for the deeper stuff. I HATE cleaning bathrooms. I’m always skeptical about if I would be happy with someone else’s work though. Anything to make life easier lol. And yay for your daughter!!
@pocketrose I feel this! The top half of my stomach is still frequently super bloated and sticks out past the lower part. So annoying to have basically an inverted bump! lol glad you and YH had a productive weekend though!
@modoodles we have someone come to our house every other week, and it's worth every penny. I'm in denial about the fact that this will probably be one of those expenses we'll have to cut when we have two in daycare. 😭 Congrats to your daughter!
We finally posted an announcement on social media yesterday. DD loooooves reading, so I was hoping we'd be able to get a cute photo of her reading her big sister book. She had other plans though and would throw the book every time we tried to get her to read it while screaming, "NO SISTA!" So instead we posted this with the caption, "We were hoping for just one photo of her sitting and reading her new book. Instead we got these! 🤷🏼♀️ We're very excited to be giving *DD's name* a little sister in July!"
@modoodles aw proud mama! That's so great for your daughter. And YES I am 100 percent team "hire a cleaning person if it doesn't break the bank." So worth it. I'm nervous about moving to a bigger house because that will mean it will be more expensive, even though we only have it done once a month. Ditto @stlbuckeye132 on the concern about possibly having to cut that expense once there are two in daycare
@kristinl492 my DD turns 2 this week and we haven't cut her hair yet either, but it's also verging on mullet territory. Not because it's curly, but because she twirls it as she falls asleep and it tends to turn into a knot and get yanked out, so her hair growth looks super uneven. She has been doing it on the sides for the past couple of months so now there one long piece in back that looks like a rat tail I don't know what to do lol
@meanjellybean my DD had her first haircut in January because she too had a rat tail that was just getting to be too much! she surprisingly loved it and now frequently gives her stuffed animals haircuts. (just by brushing them... no scissors involved, thankfully!)
@stlbuckeye132 well that's encouraging! Maybe I'll put it on the list for later this month. Did you take her to like a "kid" place or to your regular person? I got my hair cut recently and my stylist said I could just bring her in to see her.
My husband grabbed a pork butt roast instead of the rump roast I had on our grocery list 😂 My plan was french dips but now I guess we are having pulled pork. I discovered it this morning as I was getting ready to start it cooking.. I think he just interchanged rump for butt and didnt take into consideration that one was from a hog and the other is beef. 😂😂
@stlbuckeye132 those pics are so cute! and an accurate depiction of real life. DD has the same book. My DD also has a crazy toddler mullet going on as well, but I don't plan on cutting it soon.. sorry kid
@modoodles congrats to your daughter! She really is beautiful. I'm considering asking for someone to come do a deep clean as my birthday gift lol. I'm sure the pulled pork will be good hahaah.
@meanjellybean we took her to a kid place. I think she liked it better than she would have my normal salon because they gave her stuffed animals to hold (which obviously anything new and different worked better than any of her usual toys I could've given her) and they also had little TVs. She was hesitant until she saw a screen and then was like, "whoa, look at that!" and sat there perfectly content. (She doesn't get screen time regularly so that might've helped.)
@modoodles that sounds like something I would do too haha
@nursejenn5 He's darling @modoodles H and I like to make pork butt carnitas (slow cook for awhile then shred and broil/bake hot for a few minutes), highly recommend it if you're looking to shake up dinner!
@modoodles I am hoping DH will be on hoard to hire someone to clean our house before showing it and maybe even the new one... when we find one! Someone coming to clean sounds glorious 😊
Today was full of phone calls to insurance and OB’s office and the genetics company but I’m hoping it will all be taken care of soon and it sounds like it will be way less so yay! Then DD1 decided to swing around this new rubber toy and it swung right into her eye cutting it. We just took them off eye insurance for the year because we never used it and they get their eyes checked at their year appointment. They did say to just give it 24 hours and I’ve cut my eye before so hopefully it all heals well and fast! I just don’t see her letting them look.
Hi folks, I know this question is asked like all the time (also, it appears the question thread has become a hair obsolete) but a relative wants to throw me a baby shower and has offered up a few dates (based around my stupidly busy May/early June schedule). For a July 12 due date, which of these days makes the most sense for a shower: May 3, May 9, or June 14? She also offered up May 17th and 31st but I have a wedding the 16th and a gala I'm attending and working the 30th, both of which have folks at it that I'd invite to a shower so those don't seem ideal.
Related, she lives in a condo with a pool and I feel like, it's not the craziest thing in the world to make a baby shower a pool party, right? (Says the girl who had food trucks at her wedding and a snack themed 30th bday )
@hbird0723 I'm glad it sounds like you won't have to pay out the wazoo for that testing! I hope DD's eye heals quickly too.
@pocketrose the planner in me votes for May 3 so you have plenty of time to see what items you get as gifts and what you still need to buy on your own before baby arrives! (Might be a little cool for a pool party though, depending on where you live.)
@pocketrose the June date is the only one that would make me a tiny bit nervous. All the rest seem fine. You’d probably be fine in June, too, but babies can come early.
ETA planning is a consideration too. It would be nice to have all the gifts received before June, I think, just so you have more time to fill in gaps that last 4-6 weeks. But if your heart is set on a pool party, I understand why June would be more attractive. Maybe you could focus the gifts at the shower to be more fun/nice-to-haves, and do all the must-have shopping before then.
@pocketrose I say any of the dates in May. A month before is cutting it a bit close. Even if it’s too cold for the pool, it’ll still be nice enough to be outside and enjoying the (hopefully) nice weather.
We just took a tour of a preschool today for DS to attend in the fall. We both loved it and are so excited for DS to experience it. It’s so bittersweet though! Between that and him turning 2 next week, I’m feeling very “where did my baby go??” 😩😭
@pocketrose I would do the June pool party! Babies don’t usually come a whole month ahead of time. And, it doesn’t take that long to order a couple things online if there’s anything you desperately need. You can even order them once the baby is already here! As long as you have a car seat and a place for the baby to sleep, you’re pretty much set!
@pocketrose, I'm due July 10 and am having mine May 3. I think any May date you listed works. My schedule is just crazy in May with Mother's Day, Memorial Day, college graduations, etc. so it was May 3 or June and June is just too close for a crazy planner like me.
@pocketrose I'd feel OK with the June date, but May 9 wouldn't be ridiculously early. With my first, I remember trying to figure out where to return quite a bit of stuff, which ate up the most time. That and getting out thank you cards.
Ordering/buying the remaining items you need is usually pretty quick because you'll probably already have them picked out, aside from maybe clothes or small stuff, but you can have a list made ahead of time for anything you don’t want to actually register for.

@footdrbritt solidarity on the challenges of parenting a threenager. Also, definitely get someone to clean your house. It’s the best money we spend each month
@nursejenn5 aww... he’s precious! Yay for cousins close in age
@hbird0723 cut her eyeball? 😬 Also, FWIW, I expect that would be covered by medical... especially if you take her to an ophthalmologist instead of an optometrist. DD has glasses and everything is billed on our health insurance bc they’re treating a medical condition (and ophthalmologists bill to health). I anticipate an eye injury would have the same classification... if needed.
@pocketrose I think any of those dates are fine. I also agree with @Pascal86 about not expecting baby to come super early.
@blaf322 yeah it was scary to actually see a cut there. Thankfully this morning she woke up and said I can see!! No red no cuts 🙏🙏 that is good to know! I think they did say something about taking her to one if needed so I’m glad health insurance would have covered it. We don’t need anymore crazy bills 😳
@pocketrose just chiming in too. I would choose a May date but that’s just me being excited lol and I feel like it’s nice to be able to wash and set things up with a little more time given! I had mine in March with DD1 mostly because I was still working and it was over spring break. She was born in May. It was nice having it a couple months before.
Thanks for the shower advice all, I think I may lean towards one of the May dates/let my relative know. Hopefully my bump will be cute/rounder by then and it'll give enough time to wash things/prep/plan/etc after!
Coworker: does anyone else smell something funky? Me: Yes. I think it's the a/c because it just turned on for the first time in a long time. Him: Oh that must be it. It's gross. Me: Yep, it smells awful. Him: You may need to get one of those masks to put over your face, you know... in your weaker condition. Me: heh....
Then as I processed what he said, I was all, "wait... 'weaker condition?' wtf" but of course he'd walked away by then. Also, IT IS 50 DEGREES OUTSIDE, WHY IS THE AIR ON?
I woke up yesterday just full of energy again and HAPPY. I dont remember the last time I've felt this good. I got so much done around my house and we've been outside, and today I paid bills and scheduled dentist visits and spoke with a friend over the phone- all things I haven't had energy to do in.. honestly, at least a year. I ordered a crib, and DH and I came to a nursery compromise.. I know it's only Tuesday but this has been the BEST week so far!
We finally got my wife's second W-2 from her previous district. I'm closer to finishing our taxes and muttering a lot at Uncle Sam. For two people in education and not at the top of the pay heap he wants a lot of our money.
The lady in the office next to me just made popcorn and burnt it. Fine. Then she just went up and down the hallway with this ridiculously strong air freshener going "sorry about the popcorn!" Now I feel like I'm suffocating on a fake fresh linen smell. Like I'm literally breathing through my sleeve. I'd much prefer the popcorn smell, lady!
