I don’t think Kaiser switches to every 2 weeks until the very very end. I’m pretty sure I have a 32, 36, 38, and then 40. At the end of my pregnancy with DD1, my OB did a cervical check at my 38w appointment and told me she didn’t think I’d make it to my 40w appointment. DD1 was literally born the day before I was supposed to have that appointment.
@soprano19 also Kaiser here - and that sounds about right - my OB told my that at 38 weeks if I want a 39 week appointment then he'll schedule one, but if everything is going okay then he'll see me at 40 weeks.
@splashmountain my friend also had some extra fluid around baby. I think they just monitored her a little more to make sure things progressed normally and she did end up with a scheduled Csection date. Everything was fine. I try and go by the mantra that if the doctor isn’t worried I will not worry.
@pirateduck that's how I feel. He did go over how excessive fluid can put you into labor earlier, but I'm not near that point, just something to be aware of. It also means baby girl has plenty of space to move around while I feel like I'm ready to burst we will be doing another u/s in a few weeks to keep an eye on it, but knowing he's not worried, makes me feel good.
@soprano19@chewie5990 I’m in the same boat. I thought it was only my specific clinic because the doctors aren’t there everyday. I’m happy to see other Kaiser clinics still on a 3/4 week schedule. I had my appointment at 28. Next will be 31 weeks, 34 weeks then every two weeks at 36 and 38 weeks.
@splashmountain I had extra fluid with DS2. They did do a few extra checks, but I also had placenta previa and he was measuring big. I went to a specialist that told me the thing they mostly keep an eye on is size with extra fluids.
@splashmountain I had extra fluid with DS and DD, and now with Baby B. The biggest concern from my MFM's perspective was ruling out GD, because extra fluid can be a sign of GD. It can also be indicative of hydramnios, which, when severe, can cause complications, including preterm labor. Mild and moderate cases are usually just monitored and I don't believethey are associated with serious complications. Once GD was ruled out for me, my MFM was completely unconcerned. If your doctor isn't worried, then I think you're good to go.
I had my 28 week appointment today. BP is great, baby's heart rate is 153, fundal height is on track. I think I passed the GD test. My doctor did another hematocrit/hemoglobin test and my hemoglobin is low, hematocrit is just in the range so I'm waiting for her to call to see if she wants me to do anything about the anemia. I have been pretty fatigued, so maybe that's why. I was afraid it might be because of GD; I'd much rather be slightly anemic...

@queenklau My level is in my patient portal. There's no reference number so I can't be 100% sure, but the level is 76 so I think that's plenty low enough.

@queenklau I think a VBAC thread is a good idea! There seems to be several of us in the possible VBAC camp and a few that have already had or attempted VBACs.
So I just head back from my doctor - I think I last updated that he was going to research the implications of (three areas) of echogenic foci. He spoke with his mfm colleague (the other hospital in town is a large academic medical center). The MFM said that while he did not think multiple areas indicate a higher likelihood of chromosomal abnormality he did say there is a chance that it could indicate something like a rare heart condition. From what it sounded like, he thinks the odds are low, but would like to completely rule that out. So it looks like we will see the MFM in the next couple weeks for a more detailed anatomy scan and go from there. I'm trying not to worry too much but I am a little scared.
I’m one of those that has to have appointments every two weeks starting at 28 weeks. I just got home from my 30 weeks appointment and it was honestly a waste of time. They weighed me, measured my stomach (still measuring behind) and checked her heartbeat. I sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes past my appointment time, so I’m a bit annoyed. I think I’d rather keep at 3-4 weeks until 36 weeks and that’s with me having both a 38 weeker and a 36 weeker.
@rox7777 waiting 45 minutes and then having a 5 minute appt with the dr is so frustrating.
I also have appts every 2 weeks from 28-36 weeks then weekly after that. I will have additional appts in between with MFM as well. Not sure how often they'll want to see me yet. I'm sure that will be decided after the results of my next scan at 30 weeks.
@rachelg777 Sorry for the scare. Hopefully the additional scan will show nothing unusual at all.
@rox7777 Yeah, that would annoy me. I'm at least usually home in under 90 min from my appointment, and it's a 32 min drive each way. I'd be scheduling less often, or rescheduling by phone after I get home, lol. Assuming things keep looking low risk and fine.

@rachelg777 have they offered/done any testing for any potential chromosome issues? I know the scans with a specialist reading them should help figure out the risk/reality of whether or not there is a hear defect, but I would think they'd offer other testing for other types of underlying conditions that can cause this.
I will say that seeing the MFM will help set your mind at ease. It is so good to be able to talk to a specialist who can answer a lot of your what if type questions. I highly recommend starting a written list of questions now to bring with you to your appointment. It's easy to get distracted and forgot once you are in the moment and being bombarded with new information. You want to be able to have as many of your questions answered as possible at your appointment so you don't have to worry about trying to catch the specialist on the phone later or something or lying awake at night wishing you'd remembered to ask something that had been bothering you. After my MFM appointment was the best sleep I'd gotten in ages even though I still had more tests that I was waiting on results from. It was reassuring to know I had someone knowledgeable working on it.
@pirateduck So we did the NIPT test early on - which indicated low risk of any chromosome issues. However, obviously there are a lot more chromosomes than 13, 18, and 21 - which is what the NIPT screens. So because we did not have an amnio (or at least yet), I guess we can't be certain about something more rare. If that makes sense. I do not know if the MFM will have different ideas about further testing or if he will now recommend the amnio even though it's a little later, I guess that is what we are waiting to find out and will also depend on the results of the US with him. I appreciate the advice about questions with the MFM, we will make sure to do that - hopefully the appointment leads to reassurance and not concerns at the findings!
@rachelg777 Having a list of questions was a life saver for me when I went to MFM. You might ask about the ClariTest. It is non-invasive test. I'm actually waiting foe insurance approval for this test.
@rachelg777 I hadn't thought about the fact that NIPT just tests for a few specific and common abnormalities. Even when I had my amnio they only tested for the specific things they were concerned about/looking for. It was not some sort of broad spectrum all inclusive genetic testing. Your MFM will help you figure out if there is anything specific worth testing for. One of the questions I asked was if my child has xyz condition, would it change my prenatal care at all, and would it change the care that is needed at birth, as in, would it impact my decision in what facility to give birth at if perhaps baby would need a higher level of care or some sort of specialist that my current chosen hospital is not able to handle? The answer may be that it doesn't change anything, in which case you might opt out of testing and wait until baby is born to deal with anything.
@pirateduck Yes, that is definitely on my list. We are currently delivering at a hospital with a special care nursery but the academic medical center with a level 3 NICU is 10 minutes down the road - equa distant from our house so it would be nothing to switch. I actually did all my clinicals and worked at that hospital so I am very familiar with it.
@rachelg777 And after waiting 4 weeks for approval, they tell me today that pre-auth was never needed 🤦♀️ So, had my ClariTest done today, along with my glucose and tdap. Hoping you get some answers quickly.
I am 28 weeks Sunday and will see my OB this week (3 weeks from my last appointment) and I am on every two weeks until 36 I think, I can't remember if it is 34 or 36.
The flu while pregnant should be illegal. Having two kids with it and already being disabled and in pain before hand-extra insult.

does anyone else not have standard urine test at their appointments? I forgot to ask about it at my appointment today, but I haven't had my urine tested since switching to Kaiser and it seems like everyone else I talk to and all the "what to expect at your appointment" things say you get urine tested at every appointment.
