  • @louessbee The original guidelines I got were from the Dr. Barbara Luke book. I was on track with that and my doctor was really pleased. But now it's getting so much harder to eat. I expected that in 3rd tri, but I didn't expect to lose in 2nd tri. I'm really short, so it's just going to get worse. Luckily babies are on track, so hopefully it's NBD at this point.

  • @allie456 Maybe a protein drink would we easier on your stomach? I get premixed drinks from Premier Protein (Costco) that aren't terrible and they have 30g of protein. And it's not a huge drink, so it's much easier to deal with. I think Ensure Max also has 30g?
  • I think I'm going to need to add protein drinks soon. Any flavors you prefer, @ruby696?
  • @louessbee I've heard the chocolate is good, but I stick with the Peaches and Cream. It's pretty good, as long as its cold.
  • Protein drinks and smoothies are really good ideas and I need to make time to make them for sure. I tend to like chocolate anything 😂

    something else I've noticed about my weight gain is it tends to stairstep. So it will plateau for most of a week or two and then jump a pound or two in a day and then stay there. Has anyone else noticed this? 

    I'm also feeling movement pretty much all the time now, which I expected to happen a bit later due to the anterior placentas. It's particularly weird when I have to do a presentation in front of a lot of people like I do today -- intellectually I know that probably no one else can see my belly moving around but I feel like they can and it makes me self-conscious. Also it tickles.
  • @allie456 I've started weighing myself weekly, so I haven't really noticed. As long as I'm around a pound a week, I'm good. Sometimes I'll only gain 1/2 lbs, but then be up two the next week, so maybe?

    I feel mine all the time, too. It's hard not to laugh sometimes. Mostly injustice get distracted, wondering what they're doing and then unrealized I'm not paying attention. Oops!
  • @ruby696 I bought the Dr. Luke book and it came last night and I started looking through it. I wish I had bought it earlier -- I don't think there is any way I can catch up to the weight gain recommendations at this point. Although between the nausea and the heartburn I don't know if it would have been possible for me at any point! I will do my best though and I appreciated the nutrition recs. And additional ammunition to rest and not do housework is always valuable.

    I was sort of laughing at the drawing of the woman pregnant with twins at 24 weeks where it said she was as big as a 32-week woman pregnant with a singleton though. I am definitely as big now as I was at the end of my pregnancies with my older daughters.

    We started touring daycares this week. I really loved the daycare my older two were in and I haven't had that "I'm in love" feeling with any of the options we have seen so far, but we have a bunch more to check out.
  • @allie456 Even if you don't catch up, just do your best to get what protein/dairy/carbs you can. That's all any of us can do anyway. 

    I feel huge. I don't know how we can get any bigger. And frankly, it scares me that it's going to happen.
  • I have triplets AND the flu. Because you know triplets weren’t uncomfortable enough!

  • Thanks guys. I’m being nursed by mom and husband so that part is ok, but it is killing my appetite! Per your convo, I’m trying to gain a certain amount each week and this is definitely going to be a set back
  • @jkr2019 The weight gain is so stressful. Hopefully this doesn't set you back too far.
  • I read some more of Dr. Luke's book last night and found myself stymied by the suggestion that people pregnant with multiples stop working at 24 weeks. I don't see how that's really possible for anyone -- if I stopped working now, I would have no time with them after they were born. And I'm the primary breadwinner for my family -- it's not like my income is optional. And what would, for example, a SAHM do who was taking care of toddlers? Or a parent without a partner (which I am not now but was for many years)?

    After I got over being like "how would THAT work??" though, it did make me think more about telecommuting more often and talking to my boss about that. It's true that my commute is really physically difficult and only getting more so the bigger I get. If I could even go into the office a few times a week instead of every day I think it would help.
  • @allie456 Totally agree. I read that and rolled my eyes. I'm also the breadwinner and there's no way I could go without full pay for that long. But I do think maybe I'll start working from home on Fridays when I hit 3rd tri. I try to keep my feet up when I'm at my desk.
  • @allie456 Hoo boy, I've been banking on not being able to come to work at some point, but I was thinking way, way later than... Now. I do a lot of walking at work though, and I'm definitely feeling like that will need to cut back somewhat soon. Telecommuting sounds like it's potentially a good option, will your boss be amenable?
  • @louessbee I think I'll ask him about telecommuting after my annual review conversation in two weeks. He definitely could be amenable -- many people at my company do work remotely, just not many in my role. 

    Today they announced an org structure change that might make things politically harder for me to not be there... but also when I think about the risks of prematurity and how that could affect these babies for the rest of their lives it seems less urgent. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning so I can also ask her what she thinks about my risk for a premature delivery according to other metrics.

    I'm 24 weeks today so I think that's officially the viability line! It feels really good to be past that point.

    Keep in mind that singleton moms who do too much (guilty with my first) can go into premature labor just from stress. I did. I had to move our entire household cross country at 30 weeks with little to no help with packing or unpacking. Did have help with loading and driving and unloading. But baby came at 35+4, and it was very very hard. He wasn't ready. 

    So no judgements here, I'm not a multiples mom, but just agreeing with @jkr2019 to listen to your own body. I sure didn't.

  • @jkr2019 one thing the Dr Luke book makes clear is how much harder it is to be pregnant with triplets than twins. My hat is off to you for sure.

    @pourmeanothermocktail I'm so sorry you had to go through that by yourself! that sounds awful. and to wind up with preterm labor on top of it is just a lot. 

    I confirmed at the ultrasound today that my cervix is 3.6cm so that's a great sign as far as avoiding preterm labor is concerned. Babies are now in the 30th-40th percentile for weight though 🤔 which is kind of a big drop... the doctor didn't seem worried because it's such an estimate, but it goes back to our earlier discussion about weight gain. I got flustered and forgot to ask about commuting but I have another appointment in 2 weeks so I can ask then.
