It was my first day back to work today as well and of course nausea got brutal over the weekend. Spent 30 mins making no bake oat balls (1000+ recipes on pinterest pick your poison) and they were so great to have between meetings today when I got a bit hungry etc. And are bland enough that they don't upset stomach. Highly recommend!
I am about 7 weeks 5 days from my LMP and gearing up for my first doctors appointment tomorrow.
Have very mild nausea at times but so far I have been lucky in that department.
I have trouble sleeping, I keep waking up every hour and tossing and turning, and am very tired all day long. I work 12 hour days so not much time for naps, and I get up at 3:30 am for work so not getting more than 6 hours of sleep lately.
Sore boobs that grew from my regular D cup by at least 2 cup sizes already, I'm in sports bras and true body bras right now. My back hurts from the size increase - they are SO heavy!
And just the other day started getting zits, which I never even had as a teenager.
Oh and peeing like crazy which was actually one of my first symptoms. I've started noticing some swelling in my hands and I feel super bloated.
My face, back, and shoulders are covered in huge acne.

@psychobutthead Mine too! Though mine are lots of smaller ones. I also have it on my neck. They’re deep and they hurt. I’ve been trying witch hazel and tea tree oil without much of a difference.
I just hit week 9 and have suddenly felt a bit more energy and less nausea. However the other symptoms have now been replaced with headaches. Is anybody else feeling that way?
@newmama46 with my first the nausea started improving around 9.5 weeks and my food aversions lessened. I’m 8 weeks now and I’m praying for only 1.5 more weeks of this. Hope you’re getting a reprieve!
I’m having weird breakouts too. My chest has tons of little bumps and I feel so self conscious like I have to wear high-necked shirts. I also got a pimple on my ear lobe, so weird.
I'm in week 10 and I can happily say that my symptoms mostly gone. The only thing that I have is slight morning sickness when I take awhile to eat between meals. I gotta say it feels great for my breast to no longer be tender. Hopefully week 10 is kind to everyone as well. Also, my upper stomach area is already on the harder side. I'm assuming it's because everything is moving up? I use to be able to grab that fat and now I can't. I was telling husband that I sometimes forget that I'm pregnant because my symptoms are not that bad/noticeable and there's no belly yet.

@emiliadkay'I just want salt and carbs and salty carbs.' This is so me right now I've eaten more crisps in the last month than I would usually eat in 6. Also mar mite on toast, which isn't so bad as it contains a lot of folic acid.
My nausea is pretty constant but not too bad at the moment, it's defiantly worse some days that others particularly if I'm tired, hungry or dehydrated. See bands and ORS tablets are saving me on those days. My nausea lasted until 19 weeks last time and was worst after 12 weeks, so I'm currently steeling myself and expecting that the worst is yet to come.
I've also started to get the sweet foods aversion that I had in my last pregnancy again, it actually lasted for a little while after the birth. Fruit is fine but anything with sugar or even worse sweetner just tastes so intensely sweet. So it looks like I'm back to drinking almost nothing but water (I'm so disappointed that I can't get La Croix water in the UK).
@gomillis I can't believe you found anything at Whole Foods for just $5 That's awesome. Please take advantage for all of us!
@cornichonmam I'm so curious about marmite! DH, who loves just about everything, tried it once and declared never again. I've heard it's often a super polarizing love it/hate it thing, depending if you grew up with it or not.
@cornichonmam I lived in the UK not too long ago and never got into Marmite but, I remember, it's pretty popular! I saw your Intro from December and see that you're in Birmingham; I used to travel there once a quarter for work from London on the Virgin Train. How is your care going? Are you using NHS?
Just jumping in. Nausea is pretty bad but not as bad as last time. This time it’s coming in waves and can usually be settled with some food. Last pregnancy I was taking zofran 3 times a day and still nonfunctional. I’ve so far avoided meds this time but I know it’s only going to get worse. I was sick until 16 weeks last time with the worst being around 8-12 weeks and I’m 7.5 weeks right now. Last pregnancy I lost 7 lbs in the first trimester and this time I’ve actually gained 1.5 lb so far (probably from eating to try and combat the nausea).
I have such an intense sense of smell as well. I can currently smell what I can only guess is someone’s Head and Shoulders shampoo sitting near me. I can smell everything and just last night I was asking H how dogs don’t get nauseous with their incredible sense of smell. I literally feel like I could outsmell a bloodhound right now. I also have messed up tastes. Like tasting metal in a glass bottle of coke. Or something being really salty when it’s not.
Somehow my boobs aren’t sore or growing. I’ll take it.
But the zits. They just started. Ugh.
I’m also super bloated and not fitting in any of my work pants. And I really didn’t want to switch to maternity pants yet. Plus I don’t have any maternity business casual since my last job I didn’t need it.
@emiliadkay Their marketing slogan is that you either love it or you hate it. It is defiantly an acquired taste like anchovies. It's actually yeast extract that is a byproduct of beer making, it's got a strong salty, yeasty, umami flavor and is best thinly spread on crumpets that have been liberally spread with butter. I have a real craving for it when I'm pregnant, it was a craving for my mother too. It actually has lots of vitamins and minerals in it (like beer but without the booze) and one serving is about 30% of the RDA of folic acid for pregnancy. Sorry I've practically written a love letter here, as I said defiantly a craving.
@radiohd18 I hope you managed to see some nicer bits of Brum not just the view from the train.
Yes I will be using the NHS, there are very few private maternity hospitals in the UK and the NHS care is usually very good. As yet I have just seen my GP to tell them I'm pregant, and then they request a booking appointment with the midwife team. There has been a bit of a delay in me getting that appointment but I've finally got a date for next week. So at the booking appointment, it's the first time you see a midwife, and they go through all your history and essentially book you into the hospital and your future appointments. The NHS has more of a light touch approach than in the US, if our low risk you won't get seen much. You typically only get a 12 and 20 week scans though a lot of people (including me) pay for private scans.
@blackgirlmagic I’m at 10 weeks 4 days, and I noticed that the top of my stomach area is harder too! At first I thought it was just a side effect of constipation (which has really not been bad at all, but it was the only thing I could think of). It hadn’t occurred to me that it could just be because everything is moving up! That makes a lot more sense!
@cornichonmam Most of my time in Birmingham was in the city center for marketing calls but I had a few nice meals there. I had my last two pregnancies in the UK and while they weren't successful, I thought the NHS did a good job of taking care of me during them. I know there are some that feel the NHS is stretched too thin. I would say that, while the NHS has no frills or fancy rooms, they do get the job done when it's needed.
Is anyone else just dead exhausted? I am constantly so tired. Sometimes I take a nap, and I'm just as tired when I get up as I was before.
I get at least 8 hours of sleep a night, sometimes 9. My blood work from my first appointment is all fine - my iron is actually high, and I've never needed to take additional iron beyond my prenatal with my previous pregnancies. I've also been taking 10,000 IU of vitamin D daily. I'm just constantly so worn out. We've been sick, so that might be part of it.
@coldlife yes! I just wake up around 3:30-4:00 and have a hard time getting back into restful sleep. I nap on weekends and that is restful and feels amazing but can’t really do that m-f due to work.
@coldlife I'm not working right now and I'm completely exhausted. Some nights I get a good 9 hours, but others I'm tossing and turning and waking up nearly every hour. During the day I can't go longer than 3-4 hours without getting super sleepy and needing a nap. My blood tests and everything are good as well. Since this is my first pregnancy, I just figured my body was having an extra hard time.
@coldlife super tired here too. Weeks 6-7 I wasn’t nearly as tired as I am now. I’ve been sleeping 8-9 hours a night and taking naps when I can too. I’m so jealous of everyone that has the energy to exercise right now.
@coldlife Yes! I get 9-10 hours of sleep (some night I toss and turn a lot) and most days I take a nap or at least lay down to rest. I attribute being more tired due to shortness of breath (I remember being out of breath only in the 3rd tri last pregnancy, so not sure if this is the norm).
Still not sleeping through the night and over it. I am so tired when I get home from work. New this week is the endless hunger. Today I had two lunches!
Is anyone else struggling to take their prenatal vitamins? I switched to gummies and have been doing fine until now, but the last couple days just the thought of taking them makes me ill.
The headaches came back yesterday and I was up until 3am until I remembered we had children’s Tylenol. I looked up the adult dosage conversion and was happy that it took at least the edge off enough for me to fall asleep.
@coldlifeI am so tired all the time. I could sleep for 12 hours. Yesterday I changed the sheets on my bed and I couldn't believe how exhausted I was afterwards.
I am so jealous of all this talk about 8-9 hr sleeps at night!!! My 10 month old is a terrible sleeper and is up every few hours - I’m lucky if I get 5.5-6 hours of very interrupted sleep each night. I am dead tired, in fact that’s why I ended up taking a pregnancy test two weeks ago, because I figured something was wrong with my thyroid and wanted to rule out being pregnant! I am not a napper, even with a newborn I barely napped, but these days I am napping every day (still on mat leave with my first). I am so exhausted!
On day 3 of a headache that just wont quit....itll tone down into the background, barely noticeable for a few hours right until I nearly forget about it completely and then BAM it's back. Any novelty solutions to pregnancy headaches? Tylenol doesn't touch it, ice pack helps but needing to hold it in place gets sort of annoying, and I plan on trying some excedrin next.
I threw up everything all the time with my first... with this one I WISH I could go back to that because what stayed down was pretty predictable and I could avoid throwing up because I knew what triggered it. Nausea was minimal without trigger foods. As soon as about 7pm hits the nausea comes in crashing waves this time... all I freaking do is eat every 30-45 minutes a cracker here, a slice of bread there.. maybe some grapes... if I don't munch I am so queasy. I can hardly fall asleep at night because I wake up queasy. I'm relieved that during the day I am keeping most things down, eating and smelling meat is still rough but I am back to big salads and veggie burgers and even my hard boiled eggs are fine again.. it's just the night nausea. I can live without meat, my child has mostly NOT noticed her lack of chicken nuggets and her increase in beans/peanut butter/cheese/yogurt etc as I avoid meat smells. Regardless my spouse returns from his business trip tomorrow and I will be relieved to not be the only person responsible for all the other living creatures in our house again. I'm over it, I'm ready to just fend for myself this weekend.
@tara4910 you don’t need to take prenatals yet! Just take folic acid 400 mg or higher and calcium until the nausea subsides, and then you can switch to gummies is the pills make you nauseous. With gummies I think you need an iron suppplement (don’t quote me on that, it might be a different thing but google or your dr would know).
I’ve been a real grouch lately, but not sure if it’s a symptom of pregnancy or just life. I’m guessing life.
@jojokoodles I’m so sorry. That was me last week. It was a week long headache that just wouldn’t quit. I had a bad one yesterday, too. Nothing helps really but I did find last night Tylenol took enough pain away to let me fall asleep. Hope it passes for us both quickly, it’s a real bummer.
Does anyone find that their nails are growing super fast? It's getting annoying since I have to continously trim them or they'll break. Also, greasy hair 😡... usually I shower at night and my hair is fine for like 2 days, but for about the last month I can't shower at night because my roots are already greasy by the morning 😖
I really can't complain though, atleast I'm not throwing up all the time. I really feel for you ladies that are struggling with vomiting. ❤
@jojokoodles If Tylenol doesn’t touch it and it has lasted for days, you may want to consider a chiropractic adjustment or a massage! Not sure if you use either service but I can say that both were lifesavers for me in my precious 2 pregnancies! Hope you feel better soon.
@roo_baby good to know! Thanks! For whatever reason it’s the “vitamin” smell/taste of them. I think you’re right about needing to supplement with iron. *cringe*
@jojokoodles my headaches aren’t relieved by Tylenol either. I had one this week for more than 2 days and it was making me more nauseous than I already was. I slightly increased my caffeine intake and that seemed to help. Hope you feel better soon!
@wednesdaygirl1019 I've been eating so much too! As soon as the nausea improved, an unreasonable hunger was born. I've been able to eat a more varied diet lately, but I'm still having some food aversions; it's not a good combination to be hungry all the time and unable to eat most vegetables... I feel like my body shouldn't need that much food right now, but if I don't eat every hour I get moody and nauseous.
Also echoing what most people said about fatigue. That has really hit me hard this week! I almost fell asleep today at work. Yesterday I was awake for a normal amount of time and when I went to bed, it felt like I had just pulled an all-nighter.
I'm usually a decently patient person, but the last couple weeks I just really have none to spare. I've been really salty with some of my students (who honestly deserve it, but still... ).

@starlight_7 and @blackgirlmagic I also see on the bump info for week 9 the diaphragm moves up to help the lungs take in more air! Maybe that's it!
