Went in today at 13 weeks for second appointment. We didn't do an ultrasound but did listen to the heartbeat, which was at 145 bpm!
We opted to do a panorama test. The nurse said that we could try running it through insurance but we could end up paying $1200. By choosing self pay, we only pay $250. How does that make sense? Definitely chose self pay.
The midwife said that they usually don't do a NT ultrasound with a panorama because they essentially test for the same things. Next ultrasound is in a few weeks.
Our midwife practice has this cool feature of group appointments starting in the second trimester. We meet with one of the midwives and moms with the same due date month. Some of the moms are FTM or STM+ so I'm hoping I'll learn more in the group.
@nutter_bean wow those group appointments sound kind of cool. How do they get around patient confidentiality and all that jazz? I assume you just consent to your info being shared? Def sounds like a good way to learn and also maybe commiserate a little lol.
@meanjellybean the group portion is more like a discussion for an hour, then each patient meets individually with the midwife in a normal exam room for another couple of hours. I think they also throw in some education about pregnancy and childbirth. Hoping it will be valuable!
@nutter_bean that sounds great! I don't know why I was picturing the two of you in an exam room with the midwife and the midwife is like ok, who wants to get up on the table first? Lol.
@nutter_bean I would totally do the group thing if it was my first kid. My OB office didn’t offer it first time around, and for my second and this one, I just don’t have time with juggling the kid schedules. At least for the one I was offered, each appointment was much longer than the private ones. But I think it would have been really nice!
Had my NT scan the other day and baby was looking good! They were doing the sequential screen and couldn’t get the exact measurement needed, so they did a different blood test for that portion.
Had our NT scan last week and all looked good according to the tech. Will get official results of 1st tri screening from OB, probably at next week’s appointment.
Did find out I have an anterior placenta again. I was really hoping it wasn’t this time. I can’t wait to feel those little baby flutters!
2/13 Blighted ovum, D&C -- 6/13 MC -- 8/14 DD born -- 3/17 MC -- 9/18 DD2 born Expecting again -- EDD 7/27/20
We had our NT scan today! Everything looks great with baby. Doctor said that if she had to guess she was 75% sure it was another boy! We aren't going to tell anyone until we know for sure, but I had to tell SOMEONE. Internet friends are the best 🤣
Finally had another appointment today - no NT scan (am I the only one not having one?) but heard the heartbeat and all is good! Also found out that I'm negative for spinal muscular atrophy, which I forgot I had tested. Also continue to be SO annoyed that we don't know the sex yet even though we could from the NIPT test... but excited to find out in 5-6 weeks!
@Pascal86 we also don't get an NT scan. I had my first appointment with my new provider yesterday and they do NIPT testing, then if anything comes back other than high risk they suggest a more detailed ultrasound and search for additional markers. If additional markers are found, then they would offer an amniocentesis. My visit sounds a lot like yours. Quick visit, listened to heartbeat, but nothing else was really needed. We did do the blood draw for the NIPT testing yesterday though.
so because of the ridiculousness that was my first OB's office, i decided to make the switch and went to a different OB's office this past week. OMG it was AMAZING. the MA started with my vitals and all the basics, and then she told me all about my "care team" - the doctors, the nurse, etc. then the doctor came in and she spent at least 45 minutes with me and DH!!! she went over all of my medical history, all of the medications i am taking, answered all of our questions, and spent time getting to know us. i told her about my anxiety about baby and she was like "okay if youre ever super anxious and worried, just give us a call and the nurse can have you come in and do a quick US to make sure everything is okay and that you are doing alright. its not good for you to be super anxious!!" which was SO nice to hear after being accused of trying to abuse my insurance by having more than one US per trimester like the previous OB told me. then the nurse came in and walked us through this entire pregnancy booklet (which the nurse at the previous OB's office just handed me and told me to read as it would answer my questions) and covered all of the resources they have. it was seriously amazing. i see her again in about 3 weeks and im so glad i found her!

I got my panorama test results back and we're 99% sure it's going to be a boy!!
It was odd, the results captured some of the testing list but they didn't test for a handful. From the notes on the test summary, it looks like with the amount of baby's genetic material they obtained (a lot), they didn't need to do some of the tests given the results on the tests they did do. I'm asking my midwife if that's the case.
