Had my appointment today, everything looks good, I thought he might be mad that I am not gaining weight but he is fine with it (let's be real, I am bigger to begin with so whatever). I also got my favorite nurse so that made me happy. HR was 135 and I think he saw I was slightly nervous because DS was always higher but he said that it is perfectly fine. I also asked him about the "Golden Hour" and he giggled a little and said we can talk more about it but he hesitates to say yes because he wants to get accurate Apgar so he knows everything is okay but he said he would make it a minute or less and then leave us alone as long as I want. So I guess we will see, I think it also depends on who is delivering me. Now it is a little over two weeks to the AS! I am so excited to see this baby again.
@tj_2 Thanks for asking. I have been meaning to update, yesterday was a busy day.
My appointment yesterday went great overall. Baby was moving around a lot during the ultrasound, which was both helpful and not helpful. The ultrasound took an hour. The tech was going to be done and I was going to have to come back to get the pictures she couldn't get, but she decided to try one last time and was able to get everything she needed. Then I met with the doc and she said everything looks great and normal. She also confirmed I do have another anterior placenta. I forgot to ask about the cord insertion this time around. Then I went to the lab and got my blood drawn for my thyroid labs for the Endocrinologist. My TSH went from 2.5+ down to 1.5, so that was great news too!
I have a sealed envelope, I bought some little sister/brother sleepers and my coworker is going to look and wrap the correct one up before we leave today. Then DH and I will open it up on Christmas morning with DD! Luckily I have off all of next week so my coworkers don't need to hold a poker face for too long.
DD was also really happy and excited that DH came to her winter program. He took some videos and she was so cute. I'm glad he skipped the ultrasound to go, otherwise she would have been the only one without a parent there.
@m6agua my office gave us a sealed envelope so that we could open and it and discover together... my husband was suspicious and convinced I already knew what it said (since I'm the one who picked it up) and then he refused to believe what was inside, suspected human error and they put the wrong card in He's just totally in denial that we are having a daughter. At the next appointment that involved an US he had to ask doctors to confirm it's really a girl.
@pirateduck My husband is the same way. He really wants a girl, we know it’s a girl. BUT he said he won’t fully believe until the anatomy scan. He’s so suspicious that it’s wrong.
I’m so impressed at those of you who have the sex in the envelope and are waiting to open it. My mom is going to be told at the AS then tell us later at my birthday dinner and I’m already clime umm I don’t know if I can wait 4 hours 😂
Well we had our AS appointment and it went well! The baby was active and the doctor said everything was normal, We got the gender in an envelope and took it to a bakery. DD smashed the cupcake to reveal we are having a boy! The only thing we are looking out for his nap the baby look to be in the 98th percentile for weight. Our doctor said it could be an outlier so we just have to wait and see. DD was only 6 pounds when she was born and I still had some pretty bad recovery from birth. We will have to see.
@mamaj1220 I wanted to wait just one day to open the envelope with my husband on Thanksgiving, but we opened it the second I walked in the door when I got home!
I only held on to our envelope for about 30 hours. Then my coworker opened it and wrapped it with the sleeper. So now the gift is under my tree and to find out I would have to open the wrapping/box which helps deter me. Also I’m super busy trying to do a bunch of other stuff and have DD to take care of, so I at least am not thinking about it every second.
My rescheduled anatomy scan is finally today! Unfortunately my follow up with the dr to hear results isn't until next Monday because of the holidays. I'm hoping if everything looks good maybe the tech will be able to give me a little reassurance. Can't wait to see how much she has grown since our last US at 7 weeks!
@bananapanda I also have my AS today! They have signs posted everywhere in the midwives office and the US office/hospital that the techs can’t tell you anything anymore(including gender) so we’ll have to wait until the 31st. I’m hoping for some reassurance though. At least say things look ok so I’m not anxious all week.
@bananapanda and @smashley09 My AS is today too! I'm super nervous and can't wait until it's over. Mine is being done by an MFM, so I'm hoping to get results today.
@ruby696 mine is at the MFM also just because the dr couldn't get me in early enough after they had to reschedule from last week. I've been to this location before because it's where my old OB sent me for all my ultrasounds, and at the 7 week scan the tech was super helpful and did tell us what was going on so hoping for a similar experience today!
I had our anatomy scan today too. Baby girl is measuring on track and everything looked good. We went over the results with our OB afterwards and everything looked healthy/was in the correct spot.
Add me to the list of people with anatomy scans today! How funny that there are so many of us. They must be trying to get people in before the holidays.
Everything was fine with us. They took an extra close look at the spine because of the elevated AFP result from the quad screen, but the babies looked fine. They said there was still a chance that there were pinprick sized failures of the spine to close that weren't visible in the ultrasound, but it felt to me like additional certainty with an amnio on both of them wasn't worth the risk. There's also the possibility of a placental issue that caused that result, but as far as I know all I can do about that, if there is a problem, is wait.
Oh, and we found out we are team lavender! One boy, one girl!
Baby girl was being a little stubborn during our anatomy scan so they couldn't get all the images of the heart they wanted. She had me lay on my side, get up and pee etc and baby wasn't having it. The tech did say that everything she saw so far was fine but I'll need to come back in 4 weeks to try again. I'm taking this as good news if everything is good so far and just another opportunity to see baby after she has grown some more. She also mentioned that baby is currently breech, but I'm pretty sure it's still way too early to be concerned since she has so much time and space to move around so maybe she just mentioned that so I'm aware of how she is currently positioned in case I want to guess what I'm feeling? lol
@ruby696 that's a lucky placental placement! I have 2 anterior placentas so the only movement I'm really getting at this point is when Baby B (the boy) gets around behind it under my right ribs. I can't really feel Baby A at all yet.
@bananapanda My baby boy wasn't cooperating with the heart images either. Radiology called me today and I have to go back in on Thursday to see if they can get those images. I haven't heard any news about the other measurements and my Dr. says no news is good news. So I'm excited to go back for AS part 2.
Side note: Baby boy hasn't cooperated with ANY ultrasounds thus far. I wonder if this is foreshadowing how he's going to be after he's born
@allie456 I can mainly feel baby girl, but that's because she's wild. Confirmed by today's US. Baby boy is just trying to survive in there with her - he seems very mellow.
@bananapanda It can be fairly common to have to go back to finish the pics of the heart. They have a checklist of images they need and with the heart they need certain angles. with it being so small, the baby moving, the heart beating, etc. it can be difficult. I was almost going to have to go back, the tech decided to try one last time and was finally able to get the pic. I also had to keep changing position, from back to side, and empty my bladder half way through.
@ruby696 im jealous you can feel so much movement! I had another scan today and check up with the MFM. I was nervous because even though I know I’m only 18 weeks, My belly is measuring 36 weeks, so in my head I look at this huge belly and think where is all the movement? Shouldn’t I feel them more by now? So it was a big relief to see all three of them wiggling around. All three triplets are measuring according to gestational age and still no sign of twin twin transfusion. Anatomy scan in 2 more weeks! They booked a three hour appointment so we’ll get a nice long look at them all then. On the down side, all these triplet hormones are causing me to have major changes to some of my moles, so I have to find time to go to the derm and get this checked out ASAP.
@m6agua Same. Today's appt lasted 2.5 hours and they had me get up and empty my bladder at one point to try to get baby boy to move so they could get all the heart pictures they needed. Luckily he did.
@jkr2019 36 weeks?! I'm going to think of you when I want to complain about being uncomfortable. I was talking to the sonographer today about triplets and she was saying it's so hard to get the middle baby, because there are hands and feet everywhere - I would love to see that! Even with my two, we'd be looking at one and there would be phantom hands and feet in the background. I wonder if you have a couple anterior placentas blocking the movement? Anyway, good luck at your AS and I hope your dermatologist tells you you're fine. I got a bunch of skin tags with DS (so gross), but they all fell off after he was born.
@ruby696 i’m huge. And only five foot tall so I carry it all in front. And yes, the triplet ultrasound is a little hard to follow. There are just little body parts everywhere! So cute to imagine them playing/snuggling with each other in there. Even the sonographer gets mixed up sometimes and will accidentally start measuring the same baby twice and have to start over! I have one big placenta and it is anterior, so I’m guessing that is playing a role in not feeling as much movement.
ugh... my OBs office just called to cancel/reschedule my AS. So annoyed. I picked the day I picked and adjusted my work schedule accordingly. It was supposed to be this week, but now I don't know... nothing is going right lately.
I had my anatomy scan today and all looked well except they found a couple soft markers for trisomy 18/21. There were 3 echogenic foci in the left ventricle of his heart and a choroid plexus cyst in his brain. Apparently these are most likely normal findings but the fact that they aren’t isolated because there are two of them may be more worrisome. The next step would be NIPT testing, which we already had done and came back negative. So that’s positive. The stats lean towards this not being an issue but I can’t help but be nervous about it. The OB said if we are really nervous we could see a genetic counselor and have an amniocentesis. I don’t think we will go that far, right now we have a growth scan scheduled in 8 weeks. Feels so far away. Has anyone had similar findings on their anatomy scan?
@rachelg777 yes I did with DS! We went to a high risk specialist and he did a 4D scan and saw that the markers were actually calcium deposits and in his words “you should have just gone to the woods to have this baby you’re fine” we didn’t need additional testing after but were followed up towards 30 weeks to make sure they didn’t grow. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat more I know it is a scary moment to hear that ❤️
@mamaj1220 thank you for answering that is reassuring! ❤️ Did you also have the plexus cyst in addition the the eif? Do you know how many of the “bright spots” (eif) they saw with your DS? The rational part of me says the data says not to be concerned but I’m having trouble being rational.
There were 3 in his heart and no cyst that I remember but to be honest I kind of got lost when they said the eif could be a hole in his heart or soft triggers. And I know it’s impossible to stay rational everything runs through your mind of what it could be.
@mamaj1220 yes it’s scary knowing there is a chance something is wrong, even if that chance is low. Thanks for sharing your experience, it’s nice to hear “personally” of someone with a good outcome vs. reading studies and just seeing numbers. I think we’ve decided for sure not to pursue an amnio, etc. I’m hoping at least one of the two markers has disappeared at our growth scan in 8 weeks.
@rachelg777 since the NIPT was all clear I wouldn’t worry about a trisomy but would ask if there are other concerns with these findings. Stay calm. Sending hugs.
I just had my follow up AS. This was the 4th ultrasound (NT Scan, gender, and now two AS) where baby refused to cooperate. Baby was breeched and curled up in a ball, it took the tech 45 minutes to get the two heart images she needed. I think I need to prepare myself for having a hard-headed child (like mother like son).
