Re: November 2019 IVF

  • Well, doing some research, but it looks like we can do a trip to the Czech Republic and have a whole donor cycle for abut $5k + travel/hotel. Likely under $10K. My clinic's price is roughly $20K for 6-8 unfertilized eggs in a "shared" donor cycle (so who knows how many would make it to the very end). So much to think about....

  • @ladyp0tter - That is a tough call. Good luck with your decision.  Try not to dwell on the numbers and go with your gut.  If we played the odds, we might not be doing this at all. LOL.

@ladythor31 - thank you for the nice message.  I agree that this forum helps provide encouragement during this difficult time.  These ladies are so amazing!  Are you still expecting a 12/19 transfer?

@31magnolia - Enjoy your break from this and try not to think about it over the holidays. In hindsight, I wish I would have taken a break.  I think our minds and bodies need that.  We are putting ourselves through a lot.

  • @ladyp0tter sounds like some tough choices to make, but it's good that you have some options. Definitely keep us posted. You'll be in my thoughts. : )

@late_bloomer I have my lining check and labs tomorrow and if everything looks good, transfer on the 19th will be a go. I am cautiously optimistic. I have tried so hard to guard my heart, but I really am excited about it. :-D
  • @ladyp0tter - what a brilliant idea.  I never considered going internationally for IVF.  A friend of mine lives in Switzerland (where IVF is limited) and did hers in Austria.  She had good things to say about that.  Funny enough, she is from the Czech Republic.  I assume she went to Austria due to proximity but I’m not positive.

@ladythor31 - Fingers crossed that all goes well tomorrow! I’m excited for you!
  • My appointment went well this morning and lining looks good. Transfer is scheduled for next week Thursday morning. Very excited! one more blood draw on Friday, and then start the Medrol and progesterone shots on Saturday. :-D
  • appointment update-I just got a call from my RE and my blood work came back with my LH levels being a little on the high side, so I have to take cetritide for the next 3 nights before I start my progesterone. Luckily we have just enough left from my IVF cycle/meds. Whew!
  • @ladythor31 - Congratulations!  I’m excited for your great progress!  I can’t wait to get to that stage.

I just went to my Day 8 appointment and things look a lot better. I somehow went from 2 follicles to >9 in 2 days.  I’ll probably have my ER on Monday or Tuesday.  I’m praying that this is my lucky cycle.
  • @late_bloomer that's such great news!!! I am so happy for you. I am praying this is your cycle too. Monday or Tuesday will be here before you know it. :-D
  • Excellent news @late_bloomer!!! So happy for you. I kind of wished we had gone straight to the next cycle since we were in the groove, but we had a vacation planned. Oh well. And then my cycle started later  (I guess because of the drugs) than normal so AF has been here this entire beach vacation!

@ladyp0tter - it’s absolutely crazy how much cheaper things are in other countries!
  • @31magnolia oh no!!! AF while on vacation is the worst! : (
  • @31magnolia are you feeling better? hopefully you got to enjoy vacation none the less :-)
  • Thanks, Ladies.  I just went for another ultrasound today. It seems things are moving a little slower this cycle.  They want me to stim for a couple more days and do the ER on Wednesday.  He’s now expecting ~11 eggs.  Fingers crossed!

@31magnolia - Bummer about AF but a beach vacation sounds wonderful nonetheless.  Enjoy your time off!
  • @late_bloomer that is such great news!!!  Are you going to be testing your embryos as well? or is that TBD? and maybe there will even be a couple hidden eggs, you just never know. :-D
  • @ladythor31 - My husband wants to keep testing.  I’m not so sure.  I will wait to see how many we have on Day 3 and then decide.
  • @late_bloomer that makes sense. The waiting during your embryos growing is so hard! you want to keep busy so you can distract yourself from worrying about it, but for me, I was so unfocused on what I was doing to remain busy. Stay strong! :-)
  • has anyone had mild cramping after they started Medrol or the POI? Of course I would be freaking out over any cramping, and it's not constant or awful, but there is a little cramping and I just want to be sure it's normal.
  • Thanks everyone. The vacation was wonderful even with AF and now I need to go on a diet. Lol.

@ladythor31 - I have not taken either of those drugs, but I thought I remember cramping on just regular endometrium.

@late_bloomer - 11 is amazing! I agree with you, I’d wait to decide on the testing until day 3.
  • @31magnolia that's great to hear your vacation was wonderful. :-D   the cramping is just intermittent as well. BUt I do feel like it's really hard to focus on anything, and that my brain is not working great. which didn't start until I started the POI
  • Hi Ladies.  I’m happy to report that I got 14 eggs from today’s ER.  RE said he thinks at least 10 were mature.  I’ll give an update after I hear from him tomorrow.

@ladythor31 - good luck with your transfer tomorrow!
  • late_bloomer - 14 is amazing! congrats! hope lots are mature!  B)

  • @late_bloomer - woohoo!! You're almost making second guess my mini stim protocol. Lol.
But I have to remember that my body didn't like the higher meds. :( I am so happy for you though! FX for you!
  • I’m trying not to get too excited because I had 13 fertilized once before and only 4 made it to day 5 and none of them were normal.  I’m really hoping we have more embryos progress this time.

@ladyp0tter - we are going to see how many progress before we commit to PGS.
  • @late_bloomer that's a great number of eggs! fingers crossed for you! :-D
  • My RE called yesterday and said that 7 of the 14 embryos made it to the blastocyst stage.  We’re sending the 7 for PGS testing.  Merry Christmas!
  • @late_bloomer, what an amazing Christmas present!! ❤️ So very happy for you!

  • @late_bloomer -  Aww!! That is the best Christmass present!!! So happy for you. Sending positive thoughts and keeping my fingers crossed for your PGS testing.
  • Update - It turns out that none of the 7 were normal so we’re back to square one.  This process is so frustrating!  I hope others are having better luck.
  • @late_bloomer 🙁 I’m so sorry, that totally sucks! And really unexpected too :( do you know if you’re doing it again?

  • @late_bloomer - Oh no. I'm so sorry. This process is VERY frustrating!  Were there any that were questionably abnormal? I don't remember what they're called. Also, have you tried a mini stim cycle so you don't get so many eggs, but maybe better quality ones. I can't remember. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.
  • @FuzzyDust - Thank you.  We were really surprised to have 0 out of 7. We’ve done 4 IVF cycles in 2019 and have PGS tested a total of 20 embryos.  We had 1 normal out of the 20.  Due to my age, we were trying to get 2 in case there were issues or in case it was successful and we wanted a second child later.  Now we’re going forward with a FET of our 1 normal and we’re going to hope that works.  We’re planning a FET in March to give our minds and my body a little break.

@31magnolia - Thanks.  I considered another round but I think 4 is my limit.  Unfortunately, of the 20 embryos, none were mosaic.  My RE finally shared all the labs reports and I noticed that while most had multiple abnormalities, ~5 only had only one abnormality.  I’ve seen some literature that suggest those might be okay but my RE seemed against implementing them.  He said he would feel better about it if they were mosaic.  I’m going to try my one normal first (from an earlier cycle) but I might end up trying the other ones at a later time.  I have to believe I have more than 1 good egg!

Despite my disappointment with this round of IVF, I am grateful that I have one embryo.  I’m praying that’s all I need for success.
  • @late_bloomer - Yes, mosaic. That’s the word I was looking for. I know your disappointed and in disbelief and a whole host of other feelings. And I definitely understand about four being the limit. Three was going to be mine. Between the cost, emotional stress and the meds, I didn’t know if I could do more than 3.
Will you all consider doing the test that helps figure out when is the best time to transfer the egg?
I will say a prayer for you and your embaby and keep fingers and toes crossed for you this March!
  • @31magnolia - I didn’t realize that was an option.  I just looked it up and I think it’s ERA.  I’m going to ask my RE about it.  Thank you!
  • @late_bloomer - yes that’s it! I was going to do it if I had a frozen embryo. I wanted to give myself the best chance possible! Not sure why all doctors don’t mention it! I too found out about it on this board.
  • @late_bloomer , hope your body get a good rest before March and then your embryo sticks and grows fast! I'll be on this board doing IVF in March, so will definitely be cheering for you on March FET discussion too :)
