I know! I keep getting to work thinking I will have all this time to post, and then I don't get anytime! I started my day focusing on the fact that I really only have two (full) weeks of work and then can focus on BREAK! Yay! My job is WAY easier in January, but I also get to not set an alarm Dec 24-January 2. What is everyone else getting break wise?
@EmilyLove25 The differing perspectives on holiday break are too funny. I’m a SAHM so I’m in the “mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again!” camp. My girls take after me and none of us does well with disruptions to our routine. They have two full weeks of no school, and with all our usual spots packed with everyone on break it’ll be a lot of down time at home. I’m feeling a little grinch-y this year.
I’m saving for maternity leave so can only have off 12/21 - 12/26. Working that Friday 12/27 and 12/30 & 12/31 will be a joke because NOTHING will be happening but what can you do. I got pregnant less than a month after starting this job so I started from zero.
This year we just get Christmas Day off, ugh. Luckily, can work remotely the whole week of Christmas (and not be expected to accomplish all that much). I can't really complain though -- I've used 5 weeks of vacation already on trips this year.
Work is really ramping up for me right now - Nov/Dec starts the busy season at my job, which lasts until late May/early June. I feel like I can barely keep up with work and that has made me less active on here and FB with my other BMB group. I am definitely thankful that this maternity leave will fall during the busy season this year to give me a break from that crazy at work (sorry coworkers!) My other two were born in July and October so I didn't miss much of the busy season with them.
Though because of use or lose time, this will be the first year I'm taking more time off in December - I had last Friday and this Friday off, along with every day of Christmas week except that Thursday. I normally only ever take off Christmas Eve (on top of company-provided Christmas Day and New Years Day).
H got a total hip replacement today, so I’m trying to handle him healing and hoping I can get through the next few days. Lol. We got to come home, which is nice, and my IL’s are keeping DS for two days so he isn’t jumping all over H. I was hoping to be able to get some stuff done around the house while DS was gone but honestly all I want to do is sleep. Which is also important. So I’ll see how it goes!
My break starts next Friday (12/20) and I’m so pumped. I have two weeks off and like every year, I’ve built in way too many plans in my head. I want to do lots of fun things with DD, plus I want to paint the nursery and start organizing all my baby stuff, plus I need to do some things for work and really start planning for my sub. Ugh. It’s going to be busy af.
our office shuts down Christmas - New Years so I luckily don't have to take PTO. I'm taking the 23rd tho and working remotely on the 24, so I'll be done on the 19th really until the 2nd!
I am only off Christmas day which sucks. I don't get paid maternity leave so I literally have to work till the end. I am hoping I can survive the next 12-13 weeks here.
@miss.sally Hope your husband has a smooth recovery.
@miss.sally sending good vibes to you and your hubby!
@kantobean how far out will you plan for your sub? I leave right at the trimester, so I think I'll only give him /her an overview of the term, but I'm not sure yet. We don't have clear requirements for sub plans in my district.
I'm also counting down the days til break! I work until next Friday the 20th and don't have to go back until the 6th. I'm planning on getting DD's big girl room cleared out and ready to set up. I also hope to get a quilt made for this baby.
I shouldn't be using sick leave this close to the holidays, but I'm taking a sick day today because my throat is so sore I feel like I would completely lose it if I had to talk to coworkers all day. Baby is kicking up a storm for some reason. It's super weird to me that she can reach so far up in my torso.
@miss.sally OMG to a total hip replacement! I hope he isn't in a ton of pain AND I hope you got/get a lot of sleep! @mauvelousone Nothing wrong with using a sick day! My LO is pretty high also! Super weird!
@miss.sally Hope the recovery goes smoothly, for everyone involved! Although our newsroom operates 24/7, 365, I'm taking off Mon-Fri of Christmas week. I have to use PTO, which stinks, but I had it planned before I got KU and need the break. It'll be our only stretch of time off before the baby comes, so we need to get some stuff done between all the family celebrations.
I'm in the 'only taking two days off' (Dec 25 & Jan 1) camp. My work only gives us those 2 days as holidays, and I didn't want to use PTO before baby comes. I have paid leave, but it's only 5 weeks, so any PTO I can save up between now and then will help a lot.
I still haven't put up my Christmas tree yet. Wish I was joking, but.. the days have just been flying by. I've learned by this time around to let things slide when I'm feeling tired or when I've been really busy, so decorating for Christmas has been kind of low on my priority list. DS has been acting out a lot lately, which has been fun (not.) Both DH and I are incredibly stressed trying to deal with the not listening, boundary-pushing, overly-energetic kid. It's like DS turned some strange corner these last couple weeks and decided "I'm my own person, screw mom and dad.". I do remember DD going through a super-defiant phase too, and I think she was around 3.5 to 4, which is what DS is now. All I know is, I hope this passes before the LO comes. I'm scared just thinking about the stress levels.
@keeksie84 yeah I’m not totally sure. I teach 3 choirs and a music theory class. The choirs will be easy: I’ll pick the music and let him pick up wherever we leave off. He’ll take them through our spring concert and it will be fine. I also have a final project I assign them, and a final exam already written. For music theory I need to go over what chapters he needs to teach and have some tests and assignments ready. Plus lots of AP practice questions. I feel a little bit bad I’m leaving the kids 6 weeks before the AP test. Oops.
Ugh. Pregnancy brain somehow had me thinking I weighed 5 lbs more last time I weighed myself than I actually did weigh. So today when I stepped on the scale, I was amped and hours later when I went to log it, I realized I actually gained more than I should have the past few wks.
I’ve been comparing my weight this pregnancy to last time and I weigh a lot more this time. I probably should start being more conscious of all the sweets I am putting in my body...but I don’t wanna.
I was so excited when I initially read the scale and thought I was back to being on par with last pregnancy. Grumble.
I’m having some really horrible “contraction” type feelings. Like bringing me to tears. But they’re only in the lower half of my abdomen. I’ve had four now in the last half hour. They last like 2-3 mins. I thought at first that they were BH but I really have no idea. I don’t think I’m going into labor either, but they’re so uncomfortable. And of course I’m home alone with H who just had hip surgery so I don’t even want to call my OB because if they tell me to come in, I really can’t right now.
@miss.sally, I would definitely call your OB. If the contractions are bringing you to tears that could mean something. BH contractions should never be painful like this. Keep us posted!

@miss.sally oh no! Do they subside if you rest (can you rest) or change positions? Last pregnancy I would have painful “contractions” or something whenever I drove too long. As soon as I was able to pull over and get out of that fixed seated position, I usually felt better in a few minutes. I think I usually stood up and stretched with my hands on the car door. But maybe laying down on your side could help?
I would consider calling your OB too. Are you near any family that can help with DH so you can go in if the pain doesn’t get better?
@silverhope UGH that reminds me of me today thinking I was 28 weeks tomorrow and not 27 haha. I still think if you are in a healthy range of gaining weight (which, as we know, is a wide range), not to stress... and it's the holidays. I can't watch what I eat!
@miss.sally Huh. That sounds strange. As others said, I would lie down and/or take a bath (easy to do because you aren't busy or anything hahaha), and if they didn't subside, I'd call my OB... who would probably tell me to go to triage... who would hook me up and say, "yeah, you're having some contractions, but nothing major," and ten hours later I'd go home... BUT you never know... Almost certain you are fine and probably the stress of care taking for kids + DH now, but never hurts to ask.
@miss.sally How are you feeling today? That does sound strange and I would call your OB and get checked out for peace of mind. However, to offer an alternative explanation, my gastrointestinal issues often cause pain that feels like cramps very low in my abdomen. Have you eaten anything weird?
Sorry to post and run yesterday! I took a nap and drank a bunch of water and they went away. I’m sure it was nothing major. Probably just stress and lack of sleep/food/water. Taking care of people is no joke. Cannot wait for H to feel better and get back into a routine.
@miss.sally Glad to hear it! I find water and lying down/sitting almost always helps. Also I swear BH feel like something different each pregnancy!
So I work at a university and students have final exams this week and then leave for an entire month. My job is going to get much more laid back for a bit! Yay! DH has been traveling SO much, so I've been solo parenting for 14 straight days (and most of November too). He's back tonight and I'm so glad, mostly because it means I can go back to working out 6 days a week. I went running at work today and it was AMAZING. 5 miles and I felt great! Can't wait to get more of that in! I find it so critical to my mental/physical health during pregnancy especially. BUT also I'll have time to catch up on my trashy tv haha.
@EmilyLove25 Same re: an easy month-ish up ahead for me--once grades are in! I have so much grading to do and have done none today. I will have to prep for my dissertation defense and a job interview and my online class in Jan., but I can do that on my own time at least and relax w/ the dogs, watch Netlifx etc. in between--I am travelling home for a couple weeks, which will be a LITTLE stressful, but truly not that bad. And I'm a FTM so I don't have any little ones to look out for like you do. We'll have to have more Wellness Wednesday check-ins haha so I remember to workout more...
I’ve been craving a chocolate frosty all week (which I haven’t had in 10+ years), and I got one today and it was everything and more. I cannot even tell you how amazing it was. I’ve been feeling so overwhelmed and stressed out the past few days and it was a nice treat.
We are supposed to go to a Cookies & Cocoa with Santa event tonight at our church but H isn’t feeling great still and I feel like a zombie. The kids will be really disappointed if we don’t go, so I’ll make an effort to take them regardless, but at the moment I can’t even fathom leaving the house. Hopefully I can nap with DS this afternoon.
@miss.sally We have a little shindig to go to tonight at the space DH's been working on restoring--music and appetizers and such. Then on Saturday it's ArtWalk downtown, and on Sunday I will be watching football. I have to get a lot of grading done, though, so I can do all these things! I hope you get some energy and feel well enough for Cookies & Cocoa!
I wanted to weigh in here that this morning, I got my glucose reading on the first try for either the first or second time since I started on Wed.! Woo. Always important to celebrate the small stuff.
@miss.sally I love your description that it was "everything and more." YES! I wish I was craving something like that. Oreos have been pretty good a few times.
We are doing Santa pictures tomorrow, which will be nice. My morning will start with the glucose test though hahahaha. Less festive!
@miss.sally, DH and I are going out to lunch to celebrate his bday, and later on I have a work Christmas party to go to. I was looking forward to the Christmas party, but sadly, the coworker who's been giving me so much grief, who wasn't originally going to come, is now coming. when she said cheerfully that 'she could make it now' I was just thinking noooooo... so now I know the evening will be filled with passive-aggressive insults and stress instead of being fun. Oh well, I'll just have to duck out earlier than I planned to. I'll use being tired due to pregnancy as an excuse.. which will be fairly realistic anyway since being around this particular person is emotionally draining/exhausting. lol. I hope you're able to go to Cookies & Cocoa and have some fun.
@kagesstarshroom, yay for getting readings on the first try. and sounds like you have a busy weekend ahead of you.
@emilylove25, we got DS's Santa pics done last weekend, and they turned out hilarious - he was leaning away from Santa with a skeptical look on his face like, "Who is this, and why am I here?" good luck on your glucose test!
Whew, Thanksgiving, baby shower hosting, 4 year old's Bday and Bday party, and Austin trip all checked off my list!!! Just Christmas and almost 2 year old's bday and party and I will get to focus on new baby the following couple of months. @EmilyLove25 I'm the same, thinking I'll have time to post at work and then not, it comes in waves, but this week has been catch up after our trip. One of the locations I run is in a college town so it slows down significantly, and the other one is not far behind as far as being easier through the holidays. I bow down to you for the amount of round the clock solo parenting you do, that is a lot!! And also for rallying for Santa pics, I think I'm going to bypass this year. I know my almost two year old will not go for it and it's uncertain whether my 4 year old will or not. @momoftoddlers On the Santa pic note, I am also feeling a little grinch-y, probably a lot pregnancy and also the amount of stuff we stuffed in over the last few weeks, I just want to relax @kantobean Seems like there is never enough time, hope you get some relaxing in @miss.sally Hope your husband is recovered quickly and you can all enjoy the holidays @treetop19 Man, I really hate this co-worker for you!! We are hoping to go to ikea for DS’s big boy room stuff (and Swedish meatballs 😉) it’s 2 hrs away so it’ll pretty much be a most of the day trip. Then we also want to try and take DS to Frozen 2 but have to work around the Pats/Bengals game so it’ll be a busy weekend!

I'm in the same running-a-long-ass-errand boat, @varimama - we're getting a new (to us) car this weekend. We're a one car family, and it's got almost 200K miles and some iffy parts, so it's time.
Hope everyone enjoys all the holiday parties and festivities! We're also going to a second birthday at Zoolights.
@varimama I'm (sadly) a Bengal's fan... so that game will NOT be fun haha! @stac4056 I don't think I realized our kids are almost the same age! My almost 2 year old will FOR SURE not go for Santa. I'm going to bring candy to try to bribe him, but I expect the picture will be hilariously bad and that he just might not be in it!
