wardrobe question

I SAH now and I've got the urge to purge my closet. I'm having a hard time with what to toss and what to keep since I tend to lean towards overpurging and I want to avoid buying anything new for awhile. (We are planning on TTC this summer so I don't want to buy things that will only end up being worn for a short period of time.)

So how many outfits do you have (approx)? Or about how many shirts/dresses/ capris/ etc do you have?

Or if you have any advice that would be appreciated too Smile

Re: wardrobe question

  • I made a massive purge when I moved cross country last spring.  It really felt good.  For this time of year, I have 2 dresses (would like a few more), 5 skirts, 3 jeans, a few shorts (I hate shorts) and maybe 10 tops that I mix and match.  Plus 4 shoes and a pair of sneakers.

  • I LOVE clothes! That being said, I have gone up several sizes in the last few years(due to medical issues)  and am hoping to lose about 35-40lbs once I am done nursing dd. My wardrobe consists of seasonal clothes fall/winter & spring/summer in various sizes. I cleaned out my closet yesterday and put away my winter stuff and pulled the spring/summer (what I can fit into (I hope) this year. My top collection right now consist of 5 nursing tanks and a few shrugs to go over them, various t shirts, some dress tops and a few sweatshirts for camping. My pants and shorts right now are my maternity ones from last year since I refuse to go buy anymore of them. I have tons of new shorts and capris that I just can't fit into till I lose this belly on me! The only place I go that I really need to look half way decent is church once a week so I have to skorts that I can wear then. When I was going through  my clothes yesterday I got rid of 2 huge garbage bags full of medium sized tops that I will never fit into again!

I do need to go out and buy 2 nice button up tops to wear over my nursing tanks for going out since I just pull on t shirts over them now, but its kind of a pain doing so!

  • I have quite a bit of clothing, but because I am on my second pregnancy in under two years, they are all different sizes.  I keep my closet pretty empty, and the majority of my clothes are organized in bins in the attic or basement.  I took everything to Goodwill that I don't LOVE.  I hate looking through my closet only to see a bunch of clothing that I can't stand.  So I got rid of it.

Right now I'm in "spring/summer maternity", so I rotate between maybe three pairs of capris, three skirts, two pairs of jeans, one pair of shorts, and probably 10 tops.  I have a few dresses for events and a few casual ones as well.  When I am not pregnant next summer, I'll probably have about the same amount, but it will be much cuter and I'll have banished maternity wear to a few boxes in the basement.  :-)

My advice--keep only what you LOVE.  There is no need to dig through a bunch of ugly things you "might wear one day".  Life is too short!

  • I don't know "how many" of each item I have, but I try to keep my wardrobe basically "classic" and not trendy. I spend money on basics - good jeans, black pants, shoes, etc. I don't spend a lot on throwaway stuff like t-shirts or trendy items.....

I own 1 pair of capris. I don't own ANY shorts at all. I haven't worn shorts since middle school......

My jeans are all designer (rock&republic, joe's jeans, paige, etc) - I LIVE in nice jeans.......

I think you should concentrate on "building" a wardrobe. Buy a few key pieces that you can interchange.

    GL!
