@optimism3 most antibiotics are category B. I took antibiotics twice for bronchitis that turned into pneumonia- first was amoxicillin, then augmentin. I’m not worries about either. Category B is still super safe.
@optimism3 that is something to discuss with your OB for sure and make sure you are aware of all side effects to you and your baby. It may be safer if you are in later pregnancy, but it's category B for a reason, so make sure you talk out all the pros and cons
On a side note, I am sorry to hear about your family member I do hope you are able to see them this weekend and that chemo is successful 🙌
@optimism3 Definitely talk to your doctor about it before taking anything and not just because of your baby. People taking antibiotics when it isn't appropriate to do so or not taking them properly are what cause drug-resistant superbugs.
@optimism3, I took antibiotics 1st tri for a UTI. My OB prescribed them. Like others said, talk to your OB. Also, if you have a virus you will still be contagious and antibiotics won’t do anything to keep you from spreading germs to your loved one.
Thanks everyone. Doctor said I’m likely viral so no meds afterall. I’ll be preparing Thanksgiving food with rubber gloves to shield from germs. Appreciate everyone’s input and hope your holiday prep is going well
I keep seeing ads for the Owlet Sock....anybody used this before? I keep seeing products that I find myself wondering if it's just a money grab for companies from worrisome FTMs or if they're legitimately helpful things.
Eta: same question for the sleepyhead portable bed thing that's supposed to help baby from getting a flat spot...
@babyroma I know one person who has the sock and swears by it. But I’ve also heard it has a lot of false alarms because all it is is a pulse oximeter. And if they aren’t sitting just right, it doesn’t get an accurate reading.
I would think getting something to prevent a flat spot flat spot on your baby’s head would be a waste of money. Just make sure s/he isn’t constantly laying on their back...aka hold your kid haha.
@babyroma the owlet is definitely not necessary. Every pediatrician I interviewed with DS told me they see more parents run to the emergency room because of ‘low oxygen’ when really they sensor just moved a tiny bit. I’ve heard it stressed people out more than helps
@babyroma we were gifted one and I used it for my first for like a month or so. We didn’t get any false alarms but at times it made me feel better and times it made me stress more. 🤷🏻♀️ We never even used it for my second. I think if my kids had any breathing issues I would absolutely want one but it is definitely not a necessity.
Taking a poll - ladies with anterior placentas are you kick counting? Everyone else enjoying the kick counts? Is this something that STMs have no time for? lol
@optimism3 I was just saying to my husband this afternoon that any time I start to get worried about the baby not moving and start a kick count, I get my count in under 10 minutes. Apparently this baby is into a lot of smaller movements.
@optimism3 I don’t do actual kick counts but if I feel like a long period of time has gone without feeling anything I pay attention and usually can get enough movement to feel reassured. Having two other kids definitely make me less aware of smaller movements
@optimism3, I never did official kick counts with DD and haven't yet with this one either. He has usual times of movement and if he isn't as active during those times I pause to notice and usually notice him pretty easily. Like right now is his active time every day. Haha!
@optimism3 - I haven't been doing them. My midwife has said 2 times, that the baby should be moving 12 times a day, but not to specifically do kick counts. I'm just going with it
@optimism3 this is my third and I haven’t actually counted kicks for any pregnancy. If I feel like the baby hasn’t moved in a while then I will actually stop and wait until I feel movement but don’t actually keep count
@babyroma personally the owlet was the only reason I could actually sleep! I think I had postpartum anxiety to some extent and was convinced she was going to stop breathing in her sleep. It gave me enough piece of mind to be able to relax some. We never had false alarms and will absolutely be using it again. Everyone is different so you may or may not find it as useful as I did. Luckily nothing ever happened that we really needed it.
@babyroma - I absolutely think they are just a product to prey on worried parents. When DD was in the hospital with bronchiolitis she had a pulseox monitor on and it constantly alarmed throughout the night, not because of anything to do with her oxygen but she was little and the monitor would keep slipping. I eventually just shut the thing off.

@optimism3 I did kick counts with #1. But my babies apparently move so much that there’s no way I don’t hit 10 kicks within the first couple of minutes. I feel like I did them when I’m not feeling as much as I normally do. I have an anterior placenta this time but she’s moving and grooving in there now.

@optimism3 I'm a FTM with an AP and I don't do the kick counts, yesterday I slept like all day so I didn't feel a lot of kicks/movements so I paid closer attention around 9pm(ish) and I felt baby move so all was good for me.
@optimism3 baby B has AP and I don’t feel him as much as baby A who is PP but still do feel him moving. I don’t do regular kick counts but when I do we hit 10 pretty fast. The tough thing is I can’t always be sure who is doing the moving haha. Mostly I just pay attention during the normal active times during the day- morning and evening for them
I did kick counts with #1 but he wasn't super active and wouldn't always hit 10 in an hour. This child hits 10 every other hour... Both with AP just different kids I think. Do them if they make you feel better, skip if you've got a wiggler and aren't too worried.
I don't know if we're going to do a product spotlight on high chairs but I want to update my registry if needed. Can you recommend you high chair? Right now I ham hesitating between the Graco DuoDiner ($119.99) and the Chicco Polly Progress ($199.99).
TTC#1 10/2018: MFI (2 SA under 9 million/ml) 11/2018: HSG shows right Fallopian tube slightly damaged 1/2019: Husband diagnosed with grade 3 varicocele 4/05/2019: varicocele repair surgery 6/13/2019: BFP!!! EDD: 2/22/2020 Baby girl born 2/27/2020 7/18/2019: Total Motile Count at 3 months post surgery = 51 millions!! (number must be >20 millions to conceive naturally).
@rikiteacup I’d like a spotlight on high chairs too!
My question- was anyone else totally exhausted after their glucose screening test? I took an hour nap but I’m still sitting here trying to keep my eyes open (thankfully I’m off today). I also got my Tdap which may be contributing.
@rikiteacup, I was going to ask for suggestions for Product Spotlight so this is helpful! In the meantime, I think I have the Graco DuoDiner and it was good for us. I liked that the seat is a kind of plastic-y material that wipes clean easily because infants/toddlers are messy eaters! We ended up taking off the straps because it was just one more thing to keep clean. We never used it as a booster seat because we moved and our set up is different now. We use this booster seat without the tray at the stools at the kitchen counter: https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Healthy-Care-Booster-Green/dp/B00CSAWIOQ?ref_=ws_cp_11825c28ff1a740b96ee_pcr_1_i. I like that it also is easy to travel with this one.
The Chico one seems to have more possible uses than the Graco if that matters to you and if you don't plan to buy a different kind of booster seat for later on.
@rikiteacup - do yourself a favor and make sure that the one you pick is easy to clean. The one we got is NOT easy to clean and I'm torn between throwing it away and getting a new one or just grinning and bearing it.

@Swiftlet yes! I was so tired after and I had to come back to work when I was done! It probably didnt help that I woke up early too to come into the office for a couple hours before it...but it definitely zapped me of much more energy!
@rikiteacup@Swiftlet We have a really small dining area (our first floor is really an open space for living room/kitchen and dining room) so we didn't feel confident about having a dedicated space for a high chair. What we did instead is get the kind that mount in an existing dining chair. We've been using it for 2 years now with DD and plan to use it again with #2. It has the added benefit of being cheaper than the stand alone high chairs. Just sharing as an option in case anyone else is tight on space.
@Swiftlet +1 for the completely exhausted after the glucose test. Thankfully, I work from home so I took a 3 hour nap when I crashed. I also got my flu and tdap shots last week and they knocked me out too.
My husband just told me that he read somewhere that the first thing your supposed to do when you get a changing pad is cut off the safety straps. Is that true?
@charbabymama hmmm...I've never heard of that. But maybe it's true? I know I definitely used the safety strap a couple of times when I needed to reach for a diaper or to pick something up off the floor. I would never suggest leaving the room with baby strapped down, but for me it was helpful when I had to take my hand off my daughter's chest for a few seconds to grab something out of reach.
*Tiny TW* when my sister was an infant, my mom stooped down to pick something up off the floor and my sister rolled off the table and broke her leg. So I was paranoid about something similar happening to me.
@charbabymama, I have never heard that. We did tuck the straps under the pad and put a changing pad over it so they were hidden. We never used them but I’d be hesitant to cut them off because kids go through this fun phase of rolling every time you change them and you may need to strap them down to prevent this.
My husband used the strap every time when DD was younger and he is "safety dad" but I would only use them when I needed to take my hand off her to go in a drawer or something. If I stepped away I darted and came back quickly haha. They are fast!

@Swiftlet the glucose made me nauseous for most of the day and gross feeling generally. 🤞🏽The 3 hour isn’t needed.
