Trying to Get Pregnant

IF Testing & Treatment w/o 11/11

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

  • @mama_mea FX your TSH is normal! TTA is "trying to avoid". I guess that's what I should technically use being on BC, but since I haven't been specifically told to avoid I label my BC cycles as WTO.

  • @inthewoods23 do you mean like getting a sample of your uterine lining? Probably wouldn't have to put you under, but I know they can apply a numbing agent. I had to do a... Oh shoot I can't remember what it's called. They numbed me with this spray and stuck some  dye in my uterus, and did an x-ray to check my uterine shape and my tubes. It was SO crampy and uncomfortable but didn't require that I go under. Hopefully it's a simple procedure for you! My doc mentioned checking my lining in the future, but he mentioned trying to get me to save a clot from my period, not a procedure. But you know what happens when you assume... 😑

And thank you for the clarification! So many acronyms!
  • @misshelen86 I hope you'll get some clarity at your RE appointment next week.  So glad you have a girls' night planned!

@inthewoods23 I haven't ever had a biopsy of my lining done, but I hope it's relatively painless for you. Sorry you have to wait so long. :(

    @mama_mea FX for good levels!
  • @mama_mea yes I mean a sample. My question comes from the fact that I had hysteroscopy and polypectomy surgery back in August where they "cleaned up" and smoothed the lining and obviously I went under for that. I guess getting a small piece of lining is much less intense and wouldn't require more than local numbing. Right??

  • @mama_mea Welcome to the IF thread, but sorry you find yourself here. I agree that the closure of AF is better than being stuck in the dreaded TWW. Hope your numbers come back ok. I think we are just going to stay in and watch chick flicks!

@inthewoods23 I have no access to the results at all, so I’ll be getting hit with everything at once.. and there were a LOT of tests. I think they would usually use conscious sedation for something like that, but not put you under general (someone correct me if I’m wrong). Ugh stupid holidays getting in the way of things.. Hope time flies by for you.

@emeraldduchess Glad you are feeling good other than the itching! That sounds awful  :( I agree with you on week 2 of the TWW, I’m almost there too and the BSC is just starting to kick in. FX we can both remain calm!

  • @mvt2003 MH said it was a bit awkward but not too bad. Good that the count came up by 2 million in a relatively short time! FX everything else comes back ok!

  • @misshelen86 I’m nervous for my follow up appointment too. It’s hard to listen to what they are saying and also process it plus think of questions to ask. I want to make sure I remember to ask the best way to ask questions that I think of after we leave because I’m sure there will be a ton. My RE is similar to yours in that they don’t want to give results before the appt but some have come through or I’ve called. I get that they don’t want people to panic and it’s really about looking at the big picture but it’s a lot to process at once. It’s annoying to me. I’m glad your week is going to go fast! I have 2 weeks to wait but I’m so busy I think it will fly by too.

@mama_mea I hope your test results show improvement! Or if not that they adjust your meds to get things moving

@inthewoods23 that sucks that things are getting delayed for you because of the holidays. Fall baby though!😍 hopefully the time goes fast.

@emeraldduchess I hear you on the difference in feelings between the two weeks of the TWW. It’s such a rollercoaster. I’m sorry the progesterone is making things uncomfortable. It’s 2019 why can’t they develop something that isn’t so gross/itchy/etc.

@mvt2003 that’s great that the count was higher! I’m glad you won’t be benched this cycle. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were both unicorns this cycle and got KU during testing? A girl can dream haha
  • @misshelen86 uggggh stay strong!! That will be tough, especially if there are some bad results. Times like this is when I'm grateful for the patient portal.

@mvt2003 interestingly, YH's results still equate to the same number of normal sperm. Any number going down though sucks. My DH didn't go through an US but I would assume you need to prepare him for some cold jelly 😆

  • @misshelen86 Sending you so many good thoughts and prayers for the upcoming appointment. I truly hope you get to leave it feeling like you have a plan of attack. I'm going to try that fertility podcast! I've been listening to InfertileAF, and it helps me sometimes and makes me anxious other times, so I have to limit my exposure. :D

@mama_mea Sorry you find yourself here! I hope your stay here is short! I agree that sometimes it's just a relief to know when the TWW is over!

@inthewoods23 Starting to get very pumped for your next FET!!!!!

@emeraldduchess FX so freaking hard that this is it for you, but I also hate the 2nd week of the TWW! I hope you can distract yourself with baking and crafts!!

  • Well, now I have a question! My ultrasound from last Monday was just released on the patient portal. It says 1 follicle on the right measuring 24x14 mm, then two on the left measuring 11x6 mm and 13x7 mm. That all seems kind of small to me, especially when it was CD15 and I took letrozole this cycle. I assume they wouldn't have had me do the trigger on Tuesday if my follies weren't mature. Obviously I can't do anything about it now, but it's confusing me.
  • @ellieemc26 ha that was me last Wednesday waiting for the call back after AF started. They finally got back to me like 5 hours later. Thanks for the stress clinic!

@kiki047 Gonal-F was the only thing I needed to refrigerate. My trigger shots, lupron, and Menopur were room temp. And actually, I think the box says you can store Gonal-F at room temp but it needs to be used within 3 months. You're supposed to let it get up to room temp anyway before injecting. Idk if effectiveness goes down if left at room temp.

  • **lurking** @emeraldduchess 24mm is a great size for trigger! You probably only released one. My RE said that any over about 17mm will release with a trigger (they mature the next 24-36 hrs post).

  • @chichiphin THANK YOU! They didn't tell me anything other than having 3 measurable follicles. I wish they'd been more specific, if only so I could stay away from google. ;)
  • @ellieemc26 glad the clomid hasn’t been that bad for you! As a side note, my phone really wanted that to be cookie, which isn’t anything close to clomid, so it might been that I talk about cookies too much 😆. Anyway I’m sorry for the freak out waiting for the office to call you back but I don’t really blame you because it does seem like thing else slip through the cracks sometimes. Glad that wasn’t the case though!

@kiki047 way to fast forward through the TWW haha! Ordering your meds is an exciting step! But I hope you are a SS and won’t need to!
  • @shoogapoff I’m excited for your beta :) do you think you will test beforehand?

@bows22 I'm sure I will, just so I'm not caught off-guard by the results. Not sure what day I'll start testing though...I'm sorry about that stressful experience with you SHG! I hate trying to read the medical staff's expressions. FX for a straightforward plan for you.

Edit bc I wasn't finished yet!
  • @misshelen86 I'll keep good thoughts going for you and your results! I hope you and your RE come up with a solid game plan that you feel good about.

@mama_mea I hope the results come back good and that you don't need to up your med! I think you're totally right about getting closure at the end of a cycle. I need to look at it that way more.

@inthewoods23 what kind of calendar?! Like a planner calendar? Because I love those and I'm always looking for new ones haha

@emeraldduchess ugh I'm sorry about the itchiness! That's never fun! Do you find it worse in the morning or at night, or just all day?  Also I'm also told that anything over 17mm is good to trigger for. So your 24mm is an awesome size! (Mine were 23 and 24 this last round). Since you had one super dominant one, it's likely only that one was released.

@mvt2003 Great job working out the timing for the SA!! That's great his overall numbers went up! Does he have to do a 3rd SA? I really want this cycle to be IT for you guys!

@ellieemc26 I hope your ultrasound shows good things in the follie department and that you'll be ready to trigger!! How much progesterone are you going to be on? Once or twice a day?

@kiki047 I think I would also test at home that Thursday morning before going and handing over that credit card! IVF is starting so soon for you, I'm so excited for you!!! But also hoping you're a special unicorn that won't end up needing it ;);)

@shoogapoff I really REALLY want you to have better results than I did!!! So I'm keeping my FX for you! How much progesterone are you on? Once or twice a day?

@bows22 I don't like that they wouldn't really review anything with you while you were there and that you were just told you'll know everything at the follow up. When is the follow up again? I hate that you're left so in the dark right now about your own body because they wouldn't or couldn't discuss it all with you right then and there.

  • Thanks @kiki047 I usually do like tracking everything but even when I SWEAR things are 100% different this time around (like certain things I felt last week that I've never felt before at that point in my cycle) ended up leading to nothing but AF. So, I'm kind of like... what's the point?! Like you, I totally get it in the beginning of TTC, but 14 months in.... Not really doing anything for me anymore.

  • @kpearse99 I’m so sorry you & YH got into an argument over TTC. I hope you guys were able to work everything out or you will soon.  I didn’t really like that about my appointment today either, I’m assuming this approach is at least part of what made my brother & SIL switch to a different RE for treatment which is something we are leaning towards as well.
  • @bows22 I would also be looking into another practice, if you have that option!  And yes, everything is worked out and good with DH and I. The fight was sort of a blur and it was coming from a good place. He gets so upset seeing me that way every single month, which of course then makes me feel like i'm a burden :(

  • @kpearse99 Aw, thanks.I wish we could all have good results together! To answer your question, I am on progesterone twice a day.
  • @kpearse99 that's like that stupid email I got from *other TTC related site* where it basically was saying that TTC is fun whether you're at month 2 or 20 and it was like ummm noooo, it is not fun at month 20.

And by calendar I mean the timeline for when I need to start meds or have appointments before the mock transfer. My clinic is dumb and it's just a list so I transfer it on to my Google spreadsheet that is color coded.

@bows22 so sorry your SHG did not go well. Feel those feels!

@mvt2003 Morph is like #4 in importance of male factors. The more sperm you have, the more chances there are so count is so much more important. I hope you continue to get better numbers!
@inthewoods23 I’ve had the cervix biopsy done due to inflammation and that wasn’t fun, but not too bad. Not sure about the lining one. Hope it goes well.
@misshelen86 My strategy (which may not work for everyone) is to envision worst case results and scenario. I’m usually somewhat happy with what happens compared to that. I’ve been on the bad side of some rare odds before, so in a weird way it also makes me feel like I can be on the good side of rare odds too...? Keeping my fingers crossed for decent news for you.
@koearse99 Hugs, lady! This shit is hard. I hope the next IUI works. It’s okay to feel all of the emotions from day to day. We are here for you. I personally do not have short or light periods and usually have a thick lining when not on meds. I would definitely look more into that since you had the one IUI lining issue. Would you consider switching doctors?

AFM, I have a progesterone check in the AM and will post after I get results.

  • @NYTino24 I really like my RE, so I don't want to change offices. And he did say that if I want to go on progesterone he will let me go on it, so I may be asking for it this time around - to try something different, ya know? Even if it's just once a day instead of twice. And the thing with my lining is that it's thick enough at the time of the IUI, or we wouldn't be doing it. 2 times ago it was at 8mm and this last time it was at 7.4. I know that's not uber thick, but it's where they at least want it and need it to be at to do an IUI so I know it's good at that time, but I don't know how fast it thins out before implantation would occur.... does that make sense? I don't even know if that's a thing.... the lining thinning out before implantation or before AF arrives?

  • @kpearse99 My understanding is that the lining doesn’t break down until progesterone drops, but the lining is somehow already building up for the new cycle once AF comes. I wonder if there’s like an infographic or gif to explain it. They do the lining check on CD3, which is weird but that’s why AF’s appearance starts a cycle and doesn’t end it.

  • @kpearse99 so sorry about your weekend, sending good thoughts to you as you head into this next cycle!

to answer your question about the progesterone I’m actually not sure if it will be once or twice a day.  I Think I remember them telling me once a day, but I guess I’ll find out!  My progesterone test was low but I also hear those aren’t considered super reliable so I’m guessing I’ll just get whatever is typical.

You know, I thought I had made a lot of effort to educate myself about all of this stuff but as each day goes by I’m finding more I don’t know that I probably should!  I guess this is part of why it’s important we trust our RE and their staff to keep us on the right path!
  • @ellieemc26 that’s basically what my RE says about progesterone, that it’s unreliable when tested because it fluctuates so much. He said some studies suggest taking it several times around CD21 and then taking the average, but that’s not fully accurate then either. 🤷🏻‍♀️
