When my water broke, I wasn't having contractions yet ...they didn't start for a few hours later ...so IF your water breaks first, you may still have time to get home/to the hospital
@jvk2012 my water broke with my first at home in the morning. I got up from peeing felt a pop or something and continued to “pee” I put on a cotton dress and sat on a towel in the car. I was also surprised that every time you change positions more just kept coming out. I was only at a one when I got to the hospital and contractions didn’t kick in until they started Pitocin.
With my second I woke up in full blown labor but the dr broke my water right before I started pushing.
Having two little kids now makes me nervous. I’ll need my mil to get to my house for the boys and my h works about 40 mins away from my house and 20 from the hospital. Labor started earlier in the morning with my first two so I’m hoping for that again.
My water broke the day after being induced and it really wasn’t that much at once, but I was laying in the hospital bed. The nurses even said it probably wasn’t my water breaking bc there wasn’t a bunch of it. But I heard a pop and I knew I hadn’t peed myself! I wouldn’t stress too much about it. A waterproof mattress pad at home saves your bed if it happens overnight and a couple towels at work/in your car will keep you prepared.

I am so worried about labor this time. With DS from start to finish it was 7 1/2 hours- water broke in the AM in bed when I rolled over, contractions started 30 minutes later, 5 hours later I went to the hospital and 2 hours after that DS was born. My H works in NYC- about an hours commute home, plus I will have DS so really hoping this all goes down on a weekend. I plan to take off at 39 weeks just like I did last time. If I go early- great! If I dont- I was so sore and swollen at the end of last time that I will be excited to be off my feet all day long
@kiwi2628 wow your labor sounds extremely similar to mine! Water broke in bed at 2:45, contractions started 30 minutes later, went to the hospital around 6:00, and then DS was born at 12:21 (so 9.5 hours).
Heck ya! Please let me go into labor at work! By full term I am looking for any and all reasons to go home. I don’t live far and have pretty long labors, so I can say that, but I totally understand those with very real logistics concerns.
Does anyone know if there is a discussion on scheduled caesareans? I looked through most of the pages but didn't see any. If no, I will probably start one because currently, that is where this pregnancy is headed, and I have no idea how they are. Thank in advance
Technical question... I only use the app and I think I may have hit the “report” flag on a post when I opened this thread, but I can’t see any indication that I did... any way to check? And if I did, so sorry to whoever I flagged!!!
PS, thank you for all the input on water breaking - you ladies answer questions I didn’t even know I had on here!
@huskervbfan having a thread all about csections (planned and unplanned) is a fantastic idea! Everyone here who has had one can answer questions about their experience. And though I haven’t had one, I assist in them all the time and would be happy to answer questions or just walk through the steps.
So when I was pregnant with DD1 I bought a box of 100 piddle pads from Amazon they were like $10. They are good for putting under your sheets to protect your mattress, keeping in the car on the way to hospital, and after baby comes I used them (under blankets) for those times when you had to let baby be naked because of diaper rash, etc.
I'm planning on working from home starting at about 38 weeks - hopefully I don't drive myself crazy!

As for labor, my biggest concern is that my husband works an hour away in and traffic is no joke around here. The other concern is when to expect them...my MFM nurse said the other day that they think going to 35 weeks is fantastic, but I’d like to get as far as possible. Definitely considering my options on taking some time earlier from work too - don’t want to cut into mat leave if I don’t have to but also not sure how realistic it will be to work when I’m even bigger...I need a crystal ball please!
How far in advance are/did people have their shower invites sent out? My mom and my aunt are throwing me a shower Jan 25th (I'm due Feb 28th, seems late but that was their preference!). It's mostly going to be family, from all over the province, via a Facebook event. I'm going to help my mom with that technical aspect and I'm torn when to suggest they actually start inviting people.
My gut says to get it out by end of November so anyone so inclined can take advantage of any Black Friday / Boxing Day sales, and it won't get lost in Christmas/Holiday planning.. That being said, I'm worried that if it's too early people will either disregard or just forget about it. Thoughts? Experiences?
@kper82 there are also really good post-holiday sales in January. I would send it immediately after boxing day unless people have to travel. I'm not sure what country you are in or how big the provinces are? Are there ways to send reminders for Facebook events? The other option would be to do it six weeks before the shower and then a reminder after the holidays.

@leksiL I'm in Ontario and max travel time would probably be 2-3hrs drive for anyone far enough away that would still come. But it's end of January and who knows what the weather will be like at that point... (ugh Winter).
I just did some googling and it doesn't look like you can send event reminders or even do a mass message to people you invited that haven't responded.
@leksiL The piddle pads are such a smart idea...especially keeping some stashed in the car. I think I'll do that this time around. I'm probably going to be induced at 39 weeks because of the GD, but I think there's also a chance I may not make it to 39 weeks since this is #2 and we all know babies seem to come on their own timelines...
@jvk2012@daffodil_shoe@craftywitch@babyroma I also may have watched a few labor vlogs on YouTube LOL. Not sure if that was a bad idea or not?! It seems like every woman experiences labor differently. I wonder what it will be like for me! I would say I'm pretty active at work and if I had painful enough contractions (I hope I just KNOW what that feels like compared to a Braxton Hicks..I don't think I have had any of those yet?) I could always just walk over to the hospital which is about a 5 minute walk away, but then I can't eat or have any of my stuff! I would love it if I went into labor on a Friday night LOL... Too bad there is no way to make that happen!! I guess we'll just have to see how it all plays out!
@foreveronyourside, labor is definitely different for everyone and even different for different births for the same woman. I was induced and had lots of back pain and what felt like mild contractions. Once my water broke and I started to feel real contractions there was no doubt in my mind that those were real contractions. They require your full attention and you can't talk through them. Definitely different than BH in my experience.
Anyone get jumpy./startled when their baby moves a TON!? Small kicks or jabs are fine, but sometimes my babe will do a twist or turn or something big and I almost jump out of my chair...
@fallonpartyfor2 It happened a couple times already. I feel like she is doing a somersault. It's not the most pleasant as it is a really strong kick.

I've been thinking about when to do our tour. H and I have sort of opposite schedules so it's going to take some planning just to get us in the same place at the same time luckily they do them pretty frequently!
@leksiL, I am delivering at the same hospital as last time so we aren’t doing a tour. I was going to do a sibling class for DD but then decided not to for a few reasons. She may not be able to visit due to flu season and if that’s the case I think it’s better if she has a vague understanding of what a hospital is. Also, a friend was saying she felt at that age they don’t need to visualize what is going to happen the way older kids do. Instead we talk a lot about babies are born in a hospital and mommy will have to stay there for a few days. That seems ok for her for her age.
@leksiL, also that class you posted is for 2-10 year olds. Unless they break them up by age I think most of it would not be age appropriate for her and go right over her head.
@leksiL so obviously I won’t need to do a tour since I already delivered there and I work there. But that’s a good reminder about a sibling class! I know we offer them because I’ve helped in it. I will have to ask our educator what else she does in her class. I’ve been the person who shows a baby through the nursery window (with parent permission, otherwise our nursery window shades are drawn shut for HIPAA reasons). I hold up the baby and the educator points out the umbilical cord stump, the identity bands, and the ankle bracelet sensor (so babies can’t be stolen).
My hospital doesn't have tours, but they had a video online to watch lol it's my second, and we are delivering at the same hospital so it should be good. I am a very laid back person and just kinda go with it lol ...never even considered a sibling class for DD. She will be 21 months when the new baby gets here, so I don't think she really understands at all (I tell her there is a baby in mommy's tummy, and she just pokes my belly button lol)
I think the sibling class is a great idea. If anything it kind of includes her in the idea of a baby coming and let’s her see the hospital before the delivery. My kids are pros at being siblings, but I think I might sign mine up to make them more excited. My oldest daughter is a mini mommy, so it might be up her ally to learn some stuff.

Also, has anyone signed their littles up for a sibling class at the hospital?
This is the one I am considering: https://www.echn.org/events/just-for-you-sibling-class-and-tour-10/
My husband thinks its outrageous and silly to bring DD to one, she will be 3. My thought it is $12 and might help her.
