Sometimes the best way to brainstorm for your little one's new name is to hear what others are considering 😁 Let us know your top boy/girl/neutral name choices are!

I don't know boy or girl so I'm not even looking at names right now!
Names are hard.. DH and I rarely agree, so I'll definitely be waiting on gender before picking that particular fight
My choices are currently : Boy: Maxwell (Max) or Christian (Cash) Girl: Zoe/Zoey or Louisa (Lola) - DH likes Lola, but we don't agree on the need for a "formal" name.
DH likes: Boy: William (I don't like any associated nick names) or Austin Girl: Allie (I would consider Allison)
@knottiedc2831dc50a15223 Hello! This board operates a little bit differently than other pregnancy forums. We ask new participants to start out by reading the *** read this first *** board organization thread to get a run down of all the guidelines we try to follow. Then, head over to Knottie usernames to learn how to change your username to something more easily recognizable so we can interact with you here. Finally, introduce yourself on our Introduce Yourself Here thread and tell us a little bit about yourself. We try our best to get to know each other and interact on a give-and-take basis. Me: 35 | H: 40 Married Sept. 2013 DS1: Nov 11, 2016 MMC: 11/16/18 (9w6d) CP: 2/3/19 (5w3d) BFP! 8/24/19 DS2: May 10, 2020
Girl - Clementine Marie or Clementine Marianne - we have had this named picked out since our 2nd year dating Boy - who knows..we both loved DS's name and it was so easy, but I we don't seem to agree on any boy names this round. I really like Isaac, Milo, and Owen - MH likes them, but doesn't LOVE them - he really wants Elliott, but I'm not completely sold.
We’re having a girl. We like the name Selah and still throwing around middle names but Briann (undecided on the spelling) is a contender. The boys middle names start with D then C so we want a B to follow the trend
I don't know if H has a list going in his head, but I have one on my phone, lol.
Girls: Alice Amelia Audrey Cecelia Lucy
Boys: Benjamin (nn Ben) James Luke Nathaniel (nn Nate)
Our last name is a very generic/common one that sounds good with basically everything. And I think most of these would sound good as a sibling set with DD's name (Clara).
Girls: Lillian (Lilly) Jean Penelope (Penny) Jean, or Penelope Anne
Boys: Zachary (Zack) Harrison (Harry)
We're struggling with the boy names. Our current boy names are Quinton and Wesley. They have strong nicknames, and I really like natural nick-names, but so many natural nick-names come with very common boy names and we like names that are a bit further down on the popularity list.
We are stuck on C names for a boy... it’s a family thing, so any suggestions welcome. My husband thinks Conan is the best name in the world but I have to disagree. I think my current front runner for a male C name is Caleb.
DH and I couldn’t agree for a name for DS so he wasn’t named until a day after he was born. His middle name is after DH’s grandfather. If this one is a boy I want to name him George after my grandpa but I haven’t told DH yet... I don’t really think he could fight me but I’m super undecided on a middle name. It can’t start with an A because his initials would be GAS... lol
if it’s a girl... no earthly idea what we would name her...
This time around DH gets to pick first name (with my approval ) and I get middle name. With DD I got first and he got middle so we thought it would be fair to swap this time.
Boy: We already agreed on Cassius, nickname Cash for the first name. DH loves it enough that I agreed. Our family members don’t seem to care for it much though but I guess they will have to get used to it. I love that it sounds so masculine and not very common. Middle name, I haven’t decided yet. I am thinking Abraham, Ezekiel, or Noah at the moment. However, I am open to suggestions
Girl: We aren’t sure yet. DH loves Charlotte (which I do like), I have also suggested Catalina but we haven’t put too much thought into it since we don’t know the sex yet. However, I have decided her middle name will be Emilia after my great-grandfather Emilio who’s birthday is 5/22, five days before my due date. I plan to call her Emmie as a nickname regardless of her first name.
Looks like we are going with a C name at the moment lol.
@jess09lynn I love the name Emmeline similar to your Emmalin but DH gave it a definite no it sounds classy and elegant and thought it would go well with DD name.
Ironically, we (mostly) have names picked out already. Usually, we wait toward middle to end or after baby is born.
Girl: Scarlette Callia Boy: Quinten (still working on a middle name)
And just on a side note, if you cannot decide on a name, mommas, that is totally fine, too. We picked names for 2 of our kids after birth. It's kind of fun.
And since this is a post for name ideas, here is the current gang. 😉 Brenden Nathaniel Jonathen Henry Colten Christopher Sebastien Elliot Violette Jean
Since we know we're having a girl I am starting to think more about this. I have loved the name Artemis for a long time. It just sounds like a "badass" female. I mentioned it a while back to my mom and she hates the name/idea because she thinks a girl would be called Arty which she thinks is too "boy-ish". I'm not totally sold on the name. I am not thrilled it would likely be one that I would never find any pre-named/labeled tourist trap items with that name on it.
I love Eleanor/Ellie but the hubby doesn't like it.
I've recently started to think about Annabel. I like the versatility there-- I'd likely call her by her full name but she could go by Anna, Anne, Bell, Bella when she gets old enough to decide what she likes. I'm going to run this one by the hubby tonight.
Is anyone else fixated on the meaning of the name, not just how it sounds? My husband and I are hooked on strong historical figures, gods/goddesses, warriors, etc.
@pirateduck I've been looking at name meanings too. My husband wants to name a boy after a character from his favorite novel. I've considered looking at historical or mythical figures as an option. I've never been impressed with the meaning of my name so would love to give something interesting to baby.
@pirateduck I tend to think more about different historical figures that might share that name. For example, my daughter is partially named after one of the greatest female composers in history, who defied gender roles in the 19th century to have a significant musical career while also raising eight children. She is also partially named after the first female lawyer in California, who was a supporter of the idea of the public defender. All of these are important values to us. We liked the name initially, but when we added in those shared histories, it sealed the deal for us.
@pirateduck my sons name is Callum Alexander. I like it because it’s different but not too different and has a similar ring to Caleb, Colin, Calvin etc
My boys weren’t named with any real rhyme or reason. DS1 I had a dream two weeks before my anatomy scan and just knew what his name would be. His middle name is after MH grandfather/father. DS2 MH picked out the name and it was from a TV show. He got MH middle names.
We honestly have no clue for boy names with this baby. We have a girl name possibly picked out, but I’m not 100% sold.
Olive has been our favorite girls name for years but we are turned off by how popular it’s become and the fact that our immediate neighbor now has a dog named Olive. We’ll see if we warm up to it again or abandon it entirely.
@doctorcrime I love Artemis! It does sound bad-ass.
@pirateduck I was really into this idea of strong female names from myths, history, or based on meaning, but H and I couldn’t agree on any of them for DD. Ended up with a name that is not very common, tied to my Irish roots (since I have a very Irish last name but DD took my H’s name), and that we just liked the sound of.
Last time, we liked Eliza, but weren’t sure it we a stand-alone name. This time I think we will go for it if it’s a girl (although one of my coworkers named her daughter that last year, so it feels mildly awkward.) I also loved Nora but we had similar concerns about it being a stand-alone name - I didn’t love Eleanor, especially since DD has a middle name that is a bit old-timey since it’s after a family member. We had it still as a possibility for a future kid, but then my sister took it so, oh well. We will do a family middle name for this baby, too, and already have that picked out.
For boys, last time I really liked Emerson. But I feel like girls are getting named that now, so meh. Maybe Everett? I also randomly like Malcolm now. More Scottish than Irish, I guess, but more unique and I like the sound of it. Any other less common but not totally out there boy names with Gaelic-type roots? Or maybe I should wait until next week to see if we even need a boy name!
Soooo... since we are talking names, does anyone have a baby name book that they love? I have one that I ordered online (there aren't exactly a lot of book stores to visit, though I may hit up the library) and I don't really like it and my dog ate the last few letters of the alphabet of boys names. Two things I do not like about my current book are that it does not show the pronunciation of names and that it does not have sections/categories of different types of names, it's just one big long random alphabetical book.
I’m impressed at people who can decide names so early. I had to meet and live with my babies for a few days before I was sure of their names. Thankfully our tradition gives us 8 days to decide boys names and a few days/weeks to decide on girls
@brettanomyces it took us faaaaarrr longer than we ever would have imagined to get pregnant, so we've had a lot of time discussing names... I can think of nights with no electricity while we were living in a camper brainstorming baby names for entertainment. BUT a lot of time discussing names still doesn't add up to agreeing on names!
@Amyface813 My husband is trying to convince me that if we have a daughter her name should be Athena, and I'm not opposed to the name in general, but it IS already the name of our cat. He argues that I just call her Kiki all the time anyway so it doesn't matter.
Re: Hello! Drop your top baby name choices here!

girl: Charlize (after dad)
We’ll find out which name we’ll be using this weekend😁

I enjoyed Rosenkrantz and Satran with my last pregnancy although I think this book is older now.
