PGAL Check-In w/o 9/23

Re: PGAL Check-In w/o 9/23

  • I have a small car and have to put dd behind the passenger seat because a carseat behind me would mean my knees hit the steering whee . I know MH will want to get a new vehicle since my car is 10 years old and we won't be able to fit two car seats and drive but I just don't want to. I like not having a payment. We have a large payment already for his giant truck. I'm just going to push the kids can only ride in his vehicle card.

  • @jhysmath can you put one of them in the middle seat and the other behind the passenger? Or is that not wide enough?  If your DD can go forward facing, they might be able to fit together like puzzle pieces a little better.
  • @mokay19 the car isn't wide enough for that. I couldn't even put DD in the middle because I would have had to push my seat up. Good point about going forward facing. She'll be 2 in May so legally I could turn her around if I had to. Which just moved her to the convertible car seat as she maxed out the height on the infant seat, MH complained this morning that he feels she doesn't have enough room sitting backwards already because her feet come off the seat. So we'll see what we end up doing. I'd prefer to keep her rear facing until she maxes out on her convertible.
  • @jhysmath It's not a big deal if their legs are longer than the seat when rear-facing.  They can sit cross-legged, bend their knees, or sling them over the side safely.  DS is almost 3 and is over 37" tall and is still rear facing.  I think the infant seat takes up slightly less space than the convertible, so my plan is to keep DS on the passenger side and the infant seat on the driver's side.  But I did have to upsize my car after he was born because my little Mazda 3 just didn't have the back seat space.  I plan to rear face him until he reaches the 40 lb limit.

  • @shamrocandroll I'm aware that they can do this with their legs MH is just ridiculous. He wanted her out of her infant seat at about 5 months because he claimed she was too wide for it. Well she was in it until last week when she had an appointment and was measured at 31.5 inches when the seat maxes out at 32. He just needs to get used to how the seat works and suck it up. This morning he told me she can't even fit in the straps it's too tight. I went over and buckled her in just fine and even tightened it a little more. My plan is to keep here rear facing until that 40lb limit as well. She's 22 lbs now at 16 months so I'm sure we have awhile to go. Thankfully NY state law requires rear facing until 2 or MH probably would turn her around sooner. We're in NH and at our 1 year appointment the booklet said it was time to turn them forward facing and I made a huge stink to our pediatrician that I didn't think that the info booklet was up to date seeing how most states require rear facing until at least 2, turns out our "Live Free or Die" state doesn't care and only requires rear facing until 1 year old.
  • @m6agua I'll have to look into that if I end up back on facebook (currently not using to win a bet with MH). There's got to be shorter car seats so I don't have to be so far up. Currently the plan is to use the infant seat from DD though so we won't fit until we switch to a convertible for baby #2.
  • @jhysmath I live in NH, but I follow the AAP recommendations, which say to RF until at least 2.  My hospital encourages RF for as long as possible.  Sounds like your old pedi needs to update their materials, especially since they should be following the American Association of Pediatrics recommendations across the board.

  • @shamrocandroll I completely agree. We don't even have a full time pediatrician so that might be part of the problem. She only comes up on Thursdays to our neck of the woods.

  • @jhysmath yes, I understand wanting to keep her rear facing as long as possible. But I also understand that to fit both car seats that might not be an option. Hopefully you’re able to figure what works!
Also, my DD is just over 2 and almost 36” and is rear facing still just because we don’t need to turn her. I have a lot of friends that turned them right away to either fit with other car seats or because their kids got car sick.
You have 9 months to figure it out 🤣
  • @mokay19 DD turns 2 in two weeks and I wanted to keep her rear facing longer, but we have to flip her because she's prone to getting carsick. We live on a long, windy mountain road that we have to drive every day to get to work/daycare.
  • Hello all, I have been lurking because I was kind of scared to post on here. I had forgotten about PGAL brain because it’s been almost 3 years since we had our DD, 4 years since my last MC and 9 months since we started trying again. Cue anxiety now...

    1. Weeks/EDD/How many times a mom? 5W/26May/1 DD

    2. Previous loss(es)? 2 MMC at 9 weeks prior to DD and a CP Dec 2018

    3. How are you feeling? Emotionally & physically?
Emotionally, I am calm generally but continue to pay close attention to my pregnancy symptoms and every time I go to the bathroom I look down to ensure there is no spotting (I did this during my last pregnancy until 20 weeks). Physically, enjoying the constant nausea and hard, tender breasts, bring it on!

    4. Any appointment updates? Had my second blood test, waiting for results, probably nit until Thursday.

    5. Rants/Raves/Questions? None right now, I am trying to keep up with the convos here, I don’t have as much time as I did during my last pg.

    6. Any milestones coming up? None for me until I am past the 9 wks. Taking it one day at a time.

  • @queenklau I think yesterday I used the bathroom for the first time in a long time without checking the TP for spotting.  It's messed up that something like that is so ingrained in our heads and our hearts and that we keep looking for signs of something bad or the reassurance that there is no spotting.  I just want you to know you aren't alone and I don't think we are completely crazy, we just want everything to be ok.
  • @queenklau @pirateduck I check every single time, including when I pee in the shower first thing in the morning (no shame there, btw).

I used to have shame about the shower peeing, but you know, one time I read an article that in Australia they had a huge campaign about saving water and how much water is used each time a person flushes a toilet and they encouraged everyone in the country to pee in the shower when they showered and figured if on average it saves one flush a day times however many people in the country it saves countless gallons of water (the article had the actual calculations based on population at the time).  So I just tell myself I am saving water (and lessening my water bill)!  :D Peeing in the shower is good for the environment!
  • yup....I check every single time...I thought everyone did, but maybe it is just us PGAL girls
  • I always check too. And last time I checked all the way through the third trimester. 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • Just have to vent for a sec...in February we had a baby with HLHS. This pregnancy, we will need at least two (preferably 3) echos. My son was diagnosed at 31 weeks and should have been diagnosed at the anatomy scan at 20. My OB completely missed it. I had an appointment today and asked for a referral to a program 4 hours away that has already said that they will see me. My OB said no, that they were capable of doing the echos within our health system and that she would not write the referral. So now I’m going to have to pay for the echos out of pocket because no effing way would I trust them again. So over doctors!

I’m sorry you are going through this.  We should not have to stress about insurance and payment at this time in our lives.  We should be able to focus instead on taking care of ourselves.  I have had many struggles with insurance the past two years myself, been told things would be covered and I could see a specialist only to have them backtrack and make me pay out of pocket.  It’s all a mess.  Try not to worry about the expense and do what you need to do.
  • @ieles2531 Wow, that's unbelievable. Did you point out that they weren't capable last time? That makes me so angry for you.
  • @ieles2351 I can’t believe that. I’m also so angry for you- is it possible to get a second opinion who can give you a referral?
  • @ieles0531 I am so sorry you're dealing with that.  That seems like an unacceptable answer to me.  I hope you're able to fight it and get the result you are looking for.

  • @ieles2531 can you change OB’s and then ask for a referral?? That is ridiculous and makes me angry for you.

Even if they think they are capable of it, they should still give you the option to go somewhere where you feel comfortable. Not right that they are blocking you from going out of your way for the best care for your baby. I am very upset with/for you!!

  • For anyone that uses vaginally progesterone, do you feel your cervix every time that you insert? If so, what position has yours been at lately?
  • @mokay19 I don't feel it intentionally because I'm terrified of spotting, but I can tell that it's really far back and I can only feel the side, not the opening. It's like it's turned away. Sorry, TMI maybe.
  • For anyone using progesterone... at my appointment today my dr had me do labs just to check if it’s low since I’ve had a MC previously and said it’s up to me if I want to do it orally or vaginally... what’s everyone else’s dr’s advice? Is one better than the other?
  • @mdfarmchick I *think* vaginal is more effective. Is it an OB or am RE? I've never heard of an RE prescribing oral, so I'd go with vaginal.
  • @mdfarmchick I second what ruby696 said. The only time I've heard of people taking it orally is when they are ALSO doing vaginally. Supposedly, most people’s bodies absorb it more effectively vaginally. Mine are even oral pills that my doctor instructs me to insert vaginally.
  • @mdfarmchick if you’re interested there is a podcast episode - Beat Infertility Bonus episode 190 all about progesterone. It gives a lot of helpful information. Anyway, in the episode they advice vaginal.

No, I don’t feel my cervix.  It has only ever confused me so it wouldn’t mean much to me!

I also have been prescribed the oral pill to be inserted vaginally.  In my two pregnancies progesterone was tested before and after supplementation and the number have come up, so it’s been proven effective this way at least for me.  Also I believe this is far less messy than the suppositories (though I have not had them personally).  Also I’m not sure how sensitive your stomach has been and if you feel like you could manage swallowing pills and not vomiting regularly.
  • Thanks guys. I thought vaginally was better. It’s my OB, not an RE. I’m keeping my prenatal down but it’s questionable some days. Anyway. We’ll see what they say Friday.
  • My progesterone supplements are almost gone, I really don't want to re-new the prescription.  I just want to be done with the mess of it.  I suspect it's still too soon though and I've still got a few weeks to go.
  • @pirateduck the placenta won’t take over with progesterone production until week 10.
  • The doctor’s office called and my progesterone was 18.5 and he likes to see it above 20 so I’m redoing labs today to see if it’s rising and trying to not freak out. 😝
  • Hoping that's a fluke @mdfarmchick. ❤
