Re: Dear FTMs, Here are the NEWBORN Essentials. Love, STM & TTMs.
@bookworm982 So this might be counter intuitive, but you could ask for a lactation consultant to help you figure out how to wean, if you decide to early on. One of my friends did that! She said it was helpful and that she did not feel "judged" for her decision and what have you. By the way, I found that bottles early on were not a problem, my daughter took whatever when she was little and only got picky at around 3 or 4 months. Not sure if anyone else had a similar experience!
In general another thing I would say that I loved having was a carrier to keep my hands free and still do other stuff.
Also I used it directly on the stroller, which was also beneficial if we were going somewhere out of the house and he fell asleep in the car. If it makes any difference, he was in it for almost a whole year before we switched to a convertible, and are using the same infant carseat for this baby, so if you're planning more than one it might still be useful.
Oh, and if you're using multiple vehicles it's much easier to move an infant seat between them, either by having a snap-in base in each vehicles, or even using the car's seatbelt for one of them. Convertible carseats are much more involved with moving between vehicles.

@ktmaesim we will eventually end up with 5 total car seats. One infant that both boys used, we have several bases (one in my car, on n DH's car, and two sets of grandparents each have a base as well). Eventually both boys will also have a convertible car seat in my car and DH's car (so four total). The convertible we picked will likely last until they no longer need a car seat (fingers crossed). Grandparents are on their own to get convertibles...we aren't made of money (we did purchase bases for the ones we thought would regularly transport in the infant carrier).

i am feeling very unprepared lately, sorry for all the stupid questions everyone.
Also, my kids are 5.5 & 7. We’ve had 7 car
seats and 2 high back boosters at this point. No grandparents have seats in their cars. That’s just between our 2 cars and babysitter’s cars.

Like others said, I had a Graco infant carrier with a base and bought something to attach it to my BOB jogger. Honestly, my BOB jogger was basically my stroller the entire time with DD. The Graco was nice, but DD got so tall so quick, that the size didn’t work beyond the first year. I upgraded to a Britax pretty fast, and I loved that one. Like @k_mama91 said, I’m planning to wear DD#2 everywhere, so taking her seat in and out of the car isn’t really going to be a priority for me this time. DD#1 did stay asleep in her car seat sometimes, but not too often, so I’m figuring we’re not going to be sacrificing much nap time by taking her out of her car seat.
Reaching out to my STM+ moms for advice, who has any good suggestions for bedside bassinets or co-sleepers? I need something to keep baby within arms reach, and at the moment I can’t put her in the bed with us. I also might just go pack n play with a bassinet attachment butted up next to my side of the bed. On a side note, @k_mama91 did you decide to keep your old pack n play after you washed it, or are you going to snag a fresh one? Mine washed up surprisingly well, but I’m still a little unsure if I want to reuse it.
I am going to buy another Nuna for this baby (I’m an idiot and it broke in storage because I put heavy things on it), even though now we aren’t in a suburban area because I like being able to click in and out and put baby in the car seat inside so it is a fast thing to get him in the car. My concern is mainly the weather though. It is so cold in the winter months where I am!

We used it until at least 6 months. Then we realized we were waking baby. Transitioned him to a crib in his room.

@rjgmcmanus DD was in the infant seat until she was 1 year old when she maxed out on height. I liked it for all the reasons people mentioned- easy transition in and out of cars with the base, click into stroller, easy to have them in the car seat when you are at a restaurant etc. Also think about the baby in the winter- way easier to bundle them to throw a blanket over them in the car seat or have a car seat cover than mess with winter gear and jacket that you will have to put on and take off once you start using the convertible.
My car isn't parked right next to my house in a garage like most people. It's halfway down the block. I also have to go down three floors from my apartment, a tight staircase. Navigating that plus walking the half block with an infant carrier (which I imagine is cumbersome, like an animal carrier) plus carrying whatever else I've got that day just seems like a bad plan. We also won't be having our kid ride with grandparents or anyone else, and even with just the two of us the kid will barely be in the car we predict.
