@ktmaesim there's no one handing out trophies for having an unmedicated birth.
Last time I told my doctor that I felt comfortable with an epidural as soon as it was medically responsible. I never ended up getting it because labor stalled out (DS had a big head) and I ended up getting a spinal block with my C-section. I had taken the "my plan is we both make it out safely" approach and in the end wasn't disappointed because that's what happened. Some people have reasons for wanting or not wanting pain meds. It's no less "natural" to get them and may help you have a more positive birth experience. It's still not a bad idea to do a little research into the different types of medication and pros and cons of each, just so you're not possibly having to make uninformed decisions on the spot later.
I got the epidural as soon as possible with both of my previous births (which was around 6cm). I will do the same this time. The epidural worked great for my first (about 48+ hours of labor), and not so great with my second (about 24 hours of labor), but I rather that than nothjh
I don’t do pain well and I want all the meds. ::shrugs::
@ktmaesim I know, not having a period is fantastic, isn’t it? I’ve heard some people won’t get their period back for a long time, like months, and then I ended up getting min back pretty fast last time. It was a bummer...I didn’t want to leave that honeymoon phase!
@ktmaesim I got mine back relatively quick. Within two months, and I was EBF with one of my kids. It was normal, but then I skipped a few months and it was horrible! I seem to always have bleeding issues though so hopefully my experience was not normal. (I have a script I can take when I have really heavy periods.)
@ktmaesim I got my period after my daughter when she was like 13 or 14 months old. I was breastfeeding, which they say can stall it from coming back, but one of my best friends who has 4 kids and has breastfed them all always gets her period again by around 8 weeks postpartum 😫
@ktmaesim I got my period about a year post partum around the time I weaned my DD. But I have had friends who were breastfeeding get their period earlier or later than that. After having a baby I found my periods were a lot heavier flow than they were before but every person is different.
Hi fellow mamas! I was just having cold soba with dipping sauce and felt the need to google what the sauce contains.. looks like it had mirin (rice wine with lesser alcohol content).... does anyone know if it’s ok? I stopped eating right after. Currently at 23w6d
@ktmaesim I was on birth control that stopped my period from coming, and I only got it once I switched to the ring. It was a pill that I had to take every day and I believe my doctor said it was either better for breastfeeding or better to take with SSRIs - I can't totally remember.
How are any of you handling questions from siblings to be about how the baby comes out? My three-year-old daughter is really intrigued about all of this. She's asked multiple times now. I don't want to say that the stork comes, but I am also not sure how much detail she really needs!
@g_gabs71016 I’m fortunate that DD is almost 9, so she’s pretty in the loop on how this stuff works already and not too scared to hear a more scientific explanation. With a three year old, I don’t think I would go to deep, but maybe just compare it to her arrival, saying you go the hospital and the doctors help the baby come out, or something like that. Just enough info for a toddler. Maybe emphasize if she’s going to be hanging with grandparents during the process to excite her a little!
@g_gabs71016 my DD is only 2 1/2 and doesn't really understand whats going on. She knows there is a baby in my belly but once she thought she also had one in her belly haha. We started reading her a book called I am a big sister and I just keep reminding her about her brother coming soon. Once we start setting up the nursery and getting the baby things out that could be some teaching moments too. But she isn't very interested it seems and definitely doesn't comment on the topic unless I bring it up.
Yeah I’m in pretty much the same boat as @Spartanrd4, my 2 y/o knows there’s a baby in my tummy and he loves his “big brother” books but he doesn’t really get it. We got the new crib a few days ago and it took 2 or 3 days for him to stop asking if it was his and start saying “that baby’s crib”. So I have no idea how else to prepare him really.
So I just found out that I "failed" my one-hour glucose screening test. I have to go back next week for the 3 hour glucose tolerance test. Anyone else in the same boat? P.S. I also "failed" my anemia test and have to start taking iron pills. Not my day yesterday on the lab test front.
@blueskychicago12 I have already been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I had it last time too. Last time I was on insulin. This time so far just metformin. I was in your boat last time. Had to do the 3 hour. This time I failed the one hour and they moved on to diagnosis. The three hour is hard. Take a book or something to do. They don’t want you moving around a lot. It was boring and that much sugar made me nauseas.
@blueskychicago12 I’ll be going in for my test on Tuesday- now I’m actually curious if I’ll pass or not! Let us know how things progress next week, sending good thoughts! ❤️
@cpk3535 I'm told something like 1 in 5 fail the 1 hour screening, and of them, 2/3 go on to pass the 3 hour test. Trying not to worry about it too much either way, since I know gestational diabetes can be managed. @Stac928 I'll definitely be reaching out to you for tips if I don't pass the 3 hour!
@blueskychicago12 last pregnancy I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hr. This pregnancy they wanted me to do the 1 hr early because I'm AMA and failed it so had to do the 3 hr again and passed it once again. Good luck!!
@blueskychicago12 so many people fail the one hour test and don’t have GD that they’ve developed a 2 hour to replace it and some docs are moving towards that, it’s more accurate.
Weird thing to notice, and maybe TMI...when I got out of the shower the other night, I noticed my nipples looked just huge. Having already breastfed last round, I checked my breasts for leakage (which I never did my first pregnancy) and squeezed a little bit of clear, very sticky liquid out, which I guess is the colostrum coming in? I think you get breastmilk coming in earlier if you’ve already done the breastfeeding game before, since we’re still only in month 6...Anybody else noticing breast changes? I’m not truly leaking yet, just when I squeeze.
@blueskychicago12 i just took my 3 HR last week. I got my results over the weekend, but no diagnosis yet. I failed every draw so I’ve got GD. Not sure what they will do with me this time. Last time I managed via diet and took gluburide but not likely to get the same this time.
@cpk3535 My nipples have looked really big for months now but just a couple of weeks ago I noticed I can also express a bit of colostrum. Same as you, not leaking unless I squeeze but I thought it was pretty early.
@cpk3535@k_mama91 my nipples have also grown rather a lot and I did notice a teeny bit of colostrum two days ago before my shower (also not leaking). Im a FTM but I guess all the ducting is done by the end of second trimester which is only a couple weeks away for me now (22+4).
@cpk3535 ugh, I’m a FTM, and I’ve been leaking since 18 weeks. It’s not much, but it comes out at random times throughout the day. Have to wear a bra at night.
How much water is everyone really drinking a day? I have a 24oz water bottle and I’m averaging 3 bottles a day, so 72oz a day. No idea if that’s good enough but that’s all I seem to drink.
Hello, I haven't noticed this question but I apologize if it's been discussed already. Did you get mani/pedi in a nail salon since you've gotten pregnant? I only went once, very early on but then just did it at home.. now with the growing belly, it's pretty much impossible to trim nails and let alone apply nail polish. There are some weird things written online (i.e. massaging your ankle bone is not good because it can start a preterm labor, don't let them trim your cuticles, don't do gel Manis/pedis). I wanted to go but this made me so confused and freaked out. Did anyone ask their obgyn or midwife about this?
@ale9687 I’m getting maybe 68 oz a day and that’s really pushing it. I’ve been drinking decaf tea and crystal light as well. My urine is clear so I know I’m hydrated but I really suck at drinking enough of anything, much less water.
@sjai59 I’ve been getting pedicures the entire time. It’s safe but let them know to avoid the ankle if it makes you feel better. Other than that I was told to make sure the salon was clean and well ventilated. I quit with my nails bc I was wary of the chemicals in the gel polish but I’m unsure if it’s really dangerous or not.
@sjai59 still getting mani/pedis. I haven’t told them to do anything different since pregnant.
@ale9687 ugh, I’m trying to do 64oz or more. I have two big 32oz guys with straws which I find helps me make sure I drink more. I’m also to the point now where even if I’m sick of water I can feel when I’m not getting enough (mostly get a headache. Bleh)
@ale9687 My doc told me I should be drinking half my body weight in ounces...which, at the moment, I hate to admit is 74 ounces I should be having daily (I was 17 pounds lighter 24 weeks ago!!!). I have a 24 oz bottle as well, and drink a minimum of two of those while at work. At lunch and dinner, I've also been drinking from 12 oz glasses, and then I'll sometimes have another small glass or two at other intervals during the morning/evening. So I'm averaging anywhere between 72 and probably 100 ounces each day. And peeing like a racehorse because of it.
@rjgmcmanus i heard about the 1/2 your body weight but then heard during pregnancy you should do even more, I’m pretty petite so 1/2 my current weight is still slightly under the 72oz but it’s so strange I’m not peeing like crazy. I also haven’t even woken up at night to go which is so strange.
@anniemarie887 If I don’t start my water intake as soon as I wake I feel a headache coming on.
@k_mama91 clear urine has been my goal lol a strange one but I feel like then I’ll be satisfied with how much I drank that day.
I'm usually a pretty good water drinker when I'm not pregnant, but during this pregnancy, I feel so full and backed up, I actually find it harder to drink as much as I normally do! I'm probably logging in about 80 oz a day, but it's tough. A few days I did way less than that last week, and I could really tell.
Weird question- when drinking this much water, I've felt sometimes that my pee isn't coming out super strong (like kind of a thin stream, kind of wussy). Anybody else experiencing that? What's up with that?
I really stink at drinking water. I'm struggling to get 64 oz a day in. I know that's bad. I have had some stabby pain near my right hip bone which my doctor says is round ligament pain exacerbated by dehydration, so that's provided me with a bit of extra motivation to drink up.
@cpk3535 YES! Like, I have to pee, and sometimes it's strong, but sometimes it's just a little bit, and then I have to pee again 20 minutes later.
A friend of mine just gave birth a month ago, and no joke, she said she literally peed a LITER afterwards. The nurse told her it's because as the baby grows, everything gets super compressed...and then when it's out, things go into overdrive like WHOA.
Its been a struggle for me too so I’ve been using the water flavors like Mio (although don’t buy Mio bc it has Red40 in it!!! I usually get Aldi brand) so it tastes better and makes me sort of want it.

I've painted my nails myself once or twice but haven't gone to the salon. I also heard about the avoiding the foot massage thing.
