    @stassischroeder I think we will be keeping the name under wraps this time from family (I hope H can keep his mouth shut), but I tend to be an over-sharer on this place  :D

    I would prefer an Irish name while my H prefers an Italian name as he is half Italian. I have more Irish in me than anything, so we will see what we can agree on.

    @laurenm2123 Those names are very nice to me. I like good ol Katherine or Catherine but my H had a boss he hated named that so that is out. So many ancestors named John on my side but we do prefer something different, so nothing on the top ten lists of baby names.
    @stassischroeder I like your opinion though on f*** everyone else's opinion!

    @stassischroeder we didn’t share names last time. Our daughters name is a little out there (at least to our family) and we didn’t care for opinions. This time I’m more open to sharing at least with close people, but they may change once we know the sex and are actually dead set on a name as opposed to it being a theory.

    @stassischroeder Same!  I avoid the most popular names, too, but I cannot even begin to tolerate the funky spelling names, or just nonsensical names.  :D  C'mon people!

    We are Jewish and my daughter has a Jewish-sounding (biblical) name. H wants to do another Old Testament name for this baby. Boy is easy: Daniel, Joshua, Isaac, Elijah, David....girl is much harder. H literally suggested “Elishaba.” Nope!

    We’ve had a girl name picked our forever, but the universe keeps giving us boys.
    We were team green and not committed to names the first time around, and didn’t share them much. I plan to do the same this time around, although we may be more set on a name this time, knowing that we’re having a boy. 

    DS #1 is named Charles Rowan (we call him Charlie) Charles is a family name on both sides.  

    We like classic names, Irish names, and our last name ends with -on, so I don’t love the first name ending with -on too, which rules a lot out.

    @kantobean LOL to Elisheba. Are you looking for an E name? We’re Jewish too and will name the baby after DH grandmother if it’s a girl or DH grandfather if it’s a boy, so girl’s first or middle name will have to start with a C or H and boy’s first or middle name will start with a J or Y. I have a Hebrew name (my Hebrew and English names are the same) and I always wanted my kids to have the same Hebrew/English names, but DH isn’t as thrilled about it as I am. He’s a work in progress  :D

    @stassischroeder I’m also so not for wacky spelling for the sake of being different. Since I don’t have an English name, I always felt like I could say that, lol. 

    @miss.sally I live for a cute nickname. Tilly is adorable! 

    @pdx2020 that list is so spot on! As a teacher I always look at the kindergarteners to see what the most popular names are. I love the name Asher but too many Ashers running around now so that one is out for me!

    We are clueless with names thus far. I really liked Julianna for a girl but DH does not like it at all. We are just going to wait till we find out the sex then discuss names. 

    @hellobabys Love the name Elliot. So cute! 

    @miss.sally I love a good nickname. Tilly is adorable as is Oscar.  

    @babyfox320 Scottie ❤️ What a sweet way to honor your uncle.

    @kantobean are you able to to shorten the names at all? I think Elisha or Elis could be really pretty alternatives to Elishaba! But if that isn’t allowed I get it. 

    Funny story my dad actually named me before my mom woke up from her emergency c-section. They were team green and he says if I were a boy he planned on using Zebulun. Thank goodness I was a girl 🤣 But if anyone wants a unique boy biblical name there you go!

    Haha we are the same. Has to be something familiar enough, or simple enough, to make spelling and pronunciation clear but also outside the top 100. Definitely succeeded with our first, but it's a little harder with the second. The boys names I like are a little more unusual (like in the 1000's popularity-wise) but at least they are super simple to spell and say. 

    My husband and I have names from opposite ends of the spectrum - his became one of the most popular boys names of the early 90s, while mine is so rare that I've only ever met one other person with my name (cue lots of puzzled looks at Starbucks). And we are looking for the sweet spot between them I guess.

    So far, we like Lennox for a boy and Violet for a girl. We live in a French speaking province, but our kid will go to an English school, so the name has to sound right in both languages. Lennox is a no brainer for me, but I still hesitate for Violet. It is my grandmother’s name, but “viol” in French means rape, which would be a horrible nickname. What do you think?

    @stassischroeder hard yes on the overly unique name or odd spellings. DH and I are both teachers so we’ve seen every out there name in the book it seems....unfortunately it also means we’ve both got a couple hard vetoes based on students we’ve had 🙈 I also think we’ll keep our names pretty private until baby is born. Don’t need to hear everyone’s thoughts on them! 

    @MrsVP614 I feel you! We love Irish names too. Our last name ends in -in which yes, takes out SO many more first names than I ever realized!

    We’ve had a boy name picked out for a long time. It’s a very common/traditional name, but after our grandfathers so we’re sticking to it. Girl names are so much harder! Especially because so many seem to end in the -in sound. I also have this very very strong feeling the baby is a girl (do other people experience this?) so I’m putting pressure on myself to get a good girl idea soon! I love love loved Charlotte, but ever since the princess was born that name is SO much more popular now!

    @babyfox320 My daughters name is Skotti. People are always saying how beautiful & unique it is. She loves it. I felt like spelling it with a k made it more feminine. Her middle name is Nikole with a k as well! Shes 15 now & we have only ever met 1 other girl named Scottie but not with her spelling.

    @lemonlove86 not necessarily an E name. DD has an M name so that honors both of my maternal grandparents. H’s family is actually not Jewish and the names on his side would be harder to use. 

    My paternal grandfather was Daniel and I’d love to use that for a boy, but it’s very popular and I also don’t really like the nicknames Dan or Danny.

    @varimama those are good ideas, but I think I’m just opposed to the name in general! Haha.

    DS has a super common name. There are 4 kids in his library class with the same name. I knew it was popular, but didn’t realize it would be THIS popular. Whoops. Maybe he’ll go by his middle name (my maiden name) when he gets bigger.

    DH and I are super basic and the girl name we like is also in the top 20, but it’s the only one we both like, so we’ll probably do it if we have a girl. I’m sure we’re having a boy though.

    I'm not Jewish, but my husband is, so we also look for Hebrew names. I agree that boys are easier than girls. Eliana is getting quite popular, and I think it's really pretty...one I was considering before we settled on a girl's name.

    @stassischroeder Lolol I’m just like you! I don’t want to share my name unless someone says it first because I don’t want it to get more popular 😂 

    I love a ton of these suggestions! I want something that is classic and timeless yet not too popular either. DH is James which I would have named a boy if I wasn’t married to a James. We actually agree on girls names but boys names we don’t see eye-to-eye. Haven’t talked about since we found out we are expecting. We can duke it out once we find out the gender lol.

    My mother wants me to name a daughter after her mother, which would be Suzanne, but that name sounds old fashioned to me so I'm thinking of it for a middle name. DH and I like Aurora as a first name for a girl. 

    A potential boy's name is where I'm stuck. My sister and I both liked the name Theodore, but alas my sister got pregnant first and now I need to come up with a new idea! A son's middle name would probably be King, which is a family name.

    I am completely at a loss what to do for names... might go the route DH and I did last time, where we had an agreement that DH would pick the final name out of our choices if it was a boy, I would pick the final name if it was a girl.  :)  

    Both my kids have unique names, but they aren't so weird that they make no sense.  They both have clear spellings and lovely meanings.  And like @stassischroeder, I don't like to share them because then they get more popular.  :)  (It seems whenever someone hears my DD's name especially, there will be a 'copycat' baby pop up the next year or so. )  :)    

    I've found, to get at the more 'unique' names that aren't weird and that have good meanings,  it takes a lot of searching!  Multiple websites, name lists, ect - both DH and I turn name searching into our part-time job in the 3rd tri... so I'm not too worried about names yet.    

    DH is on the same page as me with this.. he likes unique names as well.  He has a very common name (Jason) and he disliked being the 15th Jason in his class every year.  I, on the other hand, have a unique name, and I loved it growing up.   I've only ever met one other person with my name in my lifetime, and I'm 38 now.  :)

    @kantobean I feel like you're always safe with the classics Rachel, Rebecca, Leah and Sara/h for girls! Also think Delilah is really pretty.

    I was also raised Jewish and my husband is not, but I feel very strongly about the tradition of naming your child after loved ones who have passed away. Planning to name our daughter after my mom (who had an M name) and my maternal grandmother (E name). We have an E name that we love and are leaning towards this being the first name but having trouble with M names that we really like (my cousin is Madeleine and niece is Malia, so those are both out). Would love any suggestions for girl M names - we are pretty traditional in our name tastes and have a 10 letter last name so nothing too long!

    @aprileia I love the name Maisie for a M girl name! It was on my list but we're naming after different relatives now. There's a few Mia's at my school which I think is adorable and not too too popular.
