We are about to leave for a six hour (plus stops) road trip back home after ten days away. I’m really anxious to be home. I also want to call my OB and beg for a scan just to make sure everything is ok after my kidney infection.
Hopefully this drive goes smoothly! I’m ready to get back in our routines and sleep in my own bed!!!
@miss.sally I hope the drive is NO problem... and I'm all about calling for a scan. Worst they can say is "no." I forget if you have an at home doppler, but it SAVES me until I can feel movement.
@EmilyLove25 I do have one. I haven’t used it yet since we left when I was 9 weeks. But now that I’m 11 I’m SUPER anxious to use it as soon as we are home!!!
@miss.sally Hope the drive is (was?) smooth and easy! And I second calling for a scan.
I have a home doppler and I haven't used it since I had my first ultrasound last week. I'm officially 10w+3d today and I'm oddly nervous to try it again even though I found the heartbeat relatively easily last week on this day.
I just ordered a Doppler and am both really excited and nervous for it to get here. The dr found the heartbeat on one last week but it took a bit. I’m just going to try and be patient and not freak out if I can’t find it for a bit. (And I’m laughing at myself as I say that’s bc I know myself so Fx I find it)
Me: 33 | DH: 34 Married: October, 19, 2015 EDD 2/22/17 DS1 born on 3/2/17 EDD 3/8/20 DS2 born on 3/10/20 EDD 11/24/23 (Formerly Marriedhamstermom Feb ‘17)
I have a Sonoline doppler that I got really cheap on Offer Up. I used it last week at 9+4 and could hear it. Its been pretty hard to find up until today (10+4).
I was just reading my husband statistics about the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities in babies with AMA moms and he got all crabby because I was "stressing him out". I tried to explain that these thoughts keep me up at night and I don't think he gets it *eyeroll*. I'm anxiously waiting for NIPT results which I'm expecting by the end of the week.
@keeksie84 I know what you mean about worrying about AMA. When I was ttgp I would lay on the couch and read all these scary articles about how chances plummet after a certain age and I just started crying. I had read most of the Bump articles but I never looked in the forums, it never occurred to me so I should have been a member long ago since I've been trying for years! I guess I thought it would never happen so why bother.
@keeksie84, I definitely get it.. and my DH is the same way. we had a t21 pregnancy last year that ended in a loss, so of course I was obsessing over the odds of it happening again. DH didn't want to hear any of it. I think in some way, he wants to hold on to that 'everything will be fine' optimism.
@wolfcub2020, I completely get the worry over TTC - I would look at my 'odds' as well and feel like throwing in the towel. it's hard not to, when you want something so badly, and it seems so far out of reach and so impossible to just 'make happen'. There are so many unknowns, too, because fertility varies so widely from couple to couple. It's easy to get bogged down by all that when you're in the thick of things and staring at negative test after negative test. I didn't join the boards when TTC because I felt it would just fuel my obsession month to month.. I already felt bad enough as it was when a test would turn out negative. I needed to at least 'try' to focus on other things as well when ttc.
@babyfox22@keeksie84 I have a Sonoline B doppler that I got with a discount for joining their new mother's email list. I wasn't able to find the heartbeat when I first got it, but I waited a few weeks and was able to find it around 9 weeks. I'm 10w+4d now and I haven't used it again yet... but I want to go home and try now!
I have the sonoline B also! It took me about ten mins but I did find the heartbeat. I thought I was hearing it last night but after finding it today it was definitely the placenta. Oops.
Its 8:45 and I’m annoyed at H and got DS in bed so I’m going to bed also. I’m just tired and crabby so it’ll probably be better for all parties involved.
@miss.sally how did the placenta sound different? That’s one of my fears is thinking I’m hearing the baby but actually hearing something else. I don’t think I’d mistake it for my heartbeat bc the number should be very different but idk what the placenta vs baby sounds like.
Me: 33 | DH: 34 Married: October, 19, 2015 EDD 2/22/17 DS1 born on 3/2/17 EDD 3/8/20 DS2 born on 3/10/20 EDD 11/24/23 (Formerly Marriedhamstermom Feb ‘17)
@MrsVP614 Well to help liven it up a bit, I told my Dad Monday over the phone. Here is what he said, "Are you sure that's a good idea? Just get a dog." Yep, that's my Dad, who if the baby is a boy won't be named after him, ha! ETA another dog, he said, we do have one currently
@varimama the placenta is more of a swish swish and the baby sounds like a galloping horse. If you go on YouTube you can find the differences. I watched some tutorials during my last pregnancy. The placenta is higher that your heart rate but lower than the baby’s. Neither was loud enough to get a good reading yet, which is why I was confused the first night.
@wolfcub2020 I am SO sorry your dad had such a rude reaction. I can’t even. Why are family members like that?! Ugh. Major TP.
@wolfcub2020 I’m so sorry about your dad’s reaction
@miss.sally thanks! I’ll have to look up some videos! I feel like last time we started HDBD when the first group of people hit the 2nd trimester so we should be getting there soon.
@Malidocious HDBD is hump day bump day, everyone who wants to can post a pic of their bump on the weekly thread.
Me: 33 | DH: 34 Married: October, 19, 2015 EDD 2/22/17 DS1 born on 3/2/17 EDD 3/8/20 DS2 born on 3/10/20 EDD 11/24/23 (Formerly Marriedhamstermom Feb ‘17)
@miss.sally ha some groups started like week 6, so I think we can start whenever. I take weekly photos already (although I’m later in the group so def no bump, maybe some bloat ha).
@wolfcub2020 your dad sounds like he’d be fun at parties. I’m sorry he reacted like that. My mom wasn’t very excited about becoming a grandmother the first time around and now she is obsessed with DS. I hope he comes around soon.
@miss.sally I took my first pic Monday, not much to see there but was wondering if people posted that kind of stuff on here. Thanks everyone for listening about my Dad's bummer reaction, I expected nothing less from him!
@miss.sally I am ready for the bump threads too, but my bump is out of control. Definitely look at least 15 weeks pregnant already. I also want a name thread to get started because naming babies is one of my favorite things.
I used the Doppler again today during my lunch hour from work and found the heart beat. Favorite sound ever! Definitely watch how-to videos as a starter, so you know what sound you should be hearing.
@varimama Thanks! I was clueless, lol! Hump Day Bump Day sounds fun! I feel like right now, my bump just looks like a beer gut.
@Malidocious same here with the bump. I have a little bloat but no bump yet. It’s probably just bc I ate too much cheese yesterday evening. 🤣 My pants don’t really feel any different yet.

I have a definite “blump” going on (bloat bump). 😂
Work has been crazy and I’m struggling to stay alert and with it! I’m not keeping up with anything at home and we get take out most nights. It’s a mess. I need to get into a better school year routine.
Man oh man. I had a horrible night last night. And I have to spend today in the hospital because MIL is having surgery. Not looking forward to it. I’m so tired.
Also DS kicked me so hard in the lower abdomen that I have cramps. It wasn’t intentional obviously. But I’m freaking out. Poor baby is already getting abused by it’s big brother.
@wolfcub2020 OMG I want to smack your dad. Family sucks sometimes
@MrsVP614 I was home yesterday with DS (daycare lady was sick), so I was also expecting to come back and have a ton to catch up on. Nope But, that seems to be the case across all of the BMBs
@miss.sally ugh, sending you both coffee and wine vibes. Have your cramps gotten any better?
@silverhope teething? Ear infection? Does he have a temp?
@kantobean I'm completely with you. I picked up some fast food last night instead of making supper. I feel so behind in everything.. work and home.
@miss.sally sorry about your bad night. hope things get better.
This morning is back to school for my kids.. DD to middle school and DS to preschool. This morning was so hectic, DD forgot her change of clothes for sports practice, so I had DH run them to school for her. He got there, and saw her standing outside with her friends.. and... unfortunately, she was standing near the stereotypical group of 'troublemakers'. now, up until last spring, she hung out with the kids around our neighborhood, and I know their parents and know that they are all decently behaved kids. Now all of a sudden she is hanging out with the wrong crowd... it's kind of terrifying. She's 13, so I know if I 'forbid' her to hang out with certain kids at school, she is just going to ignore me anyway and sneak around with them. Kind of a rock and a hard place situation. Then again, it is possible the group of kids she was with might not be as bad as DH's initial impression of them.. so.. we shall see.
@treetop19 ugh that would terrify me too! FX they're not as bad as DH thinks, or she was just standing near them out of coincidence and not as friends.
AFM, I'm wearing the granniest of granny panties today. Showered last night, and accidentally grabbed a pair of post-partum underwear - like they go WAY above my belly button. I ended up wearing a maxi dress to work today, I so I decided the granny panties could stick around for the day.
@miss.sally I hope you’re feeling better now! Did you call your doctor? I have trouble with DS being too rough too. He doesn’t mean anything but he’s constantly climbing on me or kicking unexpectedly and he’s gotten my belly a few times though not too bad. I try to keep reminding him to be gentle with my belly but he doesn’t get it.
Me: 33 | DH: 34 Married: October, 19, 2015 EDD 2/22/17 DS1 born on 3/2/17 EDD 3/8/20 DS2 born on 3/10/20 EDD 11/24/23 (Formerly Marriedhamstermom Feb ‘17)
I am amazed at the bumps on the ladies that posted for HDBP! I am a little over 10 weeks and have basically the bloated look below the belly button. I will add this next part because it is random, I was reading an article online about the various gender predictors and did this easy one for fun. Pee in a container of two Tablespoons baking soda, if it fizzes it is a boy, no reaction it is a girl. I had no reaction.
@wolfcub2020 STM+ bumps are so different! I couldn't WAIT to show during my first pregnancy, but was barely showing by 16w. This time around is WAY different. And, I don't put any stock in testing methods like that, but I'd honestly be tempted to try for fun!
@wolfcub2020 my 10 week bump from the HDBD thread is similar to my 18 week bump with DD1 and my 14 week bump with DD2. It's crazy how much faster it happens!
@wolfcub2020 Oh noooo to your dad's negative attitude! Hopefully he'll come around. My mom was absolutely NOT on board when I first found out I was pregnant earlier this year, but she has come around completely. Hopefully your dad is the same way! Oh, and I'm surprised at the bumps this soon along, too! So cute, though! I can't wait until I look pregnant and not just fat.
@varimama The placenta sounds like a swooshing sound. The heartbeat sounds like an actual rhythmic beat, except way faster than an adult's heart beat. It's super neat! The little heart sign will be lit up on the Doppler and a relatively high number should be on it once you've hit the baby spot. I definitely recommend watching YouTube videos before you try it yourself, just to get an idea of what to listen for.
@miss.sally Ouch to the kick from your son! I hope your day in the hospital is going smoothly; I know how much it sucks to spend hours and hours there, waiting.
@silverhope Sorry your son is crying a lot today. Feeling under the weather? Poor little guy -- hope he cheers up soon!
@jenEP YES to a baby names thread!! I love thinking of names for the baby.
@treetop19 Eek to your daughter hanging with the wrong crowd. Hopefully your husband's impression of the kids was wrong and they're not too bad. One reason I'm leaning toward wanting a boy versus a girl is because girls turn into teenagers... evil girl teenagers with the hormones, lol!
@stassischroeder no fever, but maybe teething. He’s had a cold since Saturday, so maybe he feels worse today. I was hoping he’d be on the mend by now.
He is napping now so that’s good. I think he is also sick of being cooped up with me all day bc I’m not very fun right now. But I didn’t want to expose his little friends to germs so we’re home until he’s better.
