@Spartanrd4 my husband is enormous so that's certainly where this comes from, I'm only 5'4" and average weight. My midwife said we aren't changing the due date but I can dream!
@rjgmcmanus@bookworm492 Try not to put too much stock in your due dates, ladies! Baby comes out when baby wants to come out. DS was exactly 2 weeks late. I was pregnant for 42 full weeks!
@McKBaby All I know is, Rise of Skywalker releases December 20, and I haven't missed a Star Wars opening weekend since middle school (nerd alert, lol). Child either better be well out by then, or he's going to have to wait a day or two after opening night. Otherwise I WILL be that woman you see on the news giving birth in a movie theater. :-D
@rjgmcmanus My friend is going to a Backstreet boy concert next week at 36w6d and she actually was saying how awesome it would be to go into labor at the concert!
Got a call from my midwife today regarding the AS, and as far as baby is concerned everything is fine. I apparently have an anterior placenta, but it's so high up (the highest my midwife's seen!) so it's not affecting my ability to feel movements.
I don't remember if I ever mentioned here that I had a small cyst on my left ovary, but she was really calling because it's apparently gotten bigger. It wasn't a concern before now because I had one my first pregnancy as well which was inconsequential, and I've been suspected (but undiagnosed) as having PCOS, but she's sending me to an OB for a consultation. It may be that we end up doing nothing about it and just watching. I'm not even sure at this point what the other possible outcomes are, other than maybe requiring surgery similar to @lucylivesinwa
@bookworm492 Ha! Third time actually. Truthfully, I didn't mind being late with DS. I felt great and wasn't;t in a hurry to deal with labor. For me, the worst part was the anticipation and everyone else asking "So when are you going to have the baby?"
I was only 2-days late with DD, so we'll see how things pan out this time.
CapricaAndrea Sorry to hear about your cyst! Did they say how big it is? I've had one on my right ovary for almost 2 years now and the size had been all over the place. Prior to getting pregnant I had it drained and then the plan (once pregnant) was to monitor it. It's had growth since getting pregnant which typically they stay the same or shrink due to hormones so when they do my follow up u/s in a few weeks they'll take another look at it, and again at 32 weeks (but only if I still have placenta previa in two weeks). After baby is born they will check again and then we will make a plan on removing the entire ovary. Game plans are different for all, hopefully you won't need any intervention until long after the baby is born!
@ashorkey She did tell me it's 8cmx5cmx4cm, but I have no frame of reference other than her saying that it's "bigger" than before. So I have no idea. She was very clear that the OB might not want to take any actions at all, and it's just a precaution, since it's out of the midwives area of expertise, so I'm also hoping we don't have to do anything until at least after baby comes!
@McKBaby I can't believe they let you go that long! My practice had me schedule an induction at 12 days over, and I gave birth 10 days "late." Baby will come when baby wants to come! I started worrying because I really didn't want an induction... Did you see midwives? Did they measure amniotic fluid somehow? Just curious as it was a bit of a fight on my part - with my husband at any rate, who was freaking out about the risks.
@CapricaAndrea sorry to hear about the cyst! I’ll send you good vibes for it to stop growing or shrink! If you do have to have surgery to get it out, don’t worry too much. The laparoscopic surgery they use is not too bad and you’ll be recovered in a week. One top if you do go that route though - even if everyone is sure that the cyst is benign, ask them to take it out Whole in one piece rather than cut it up. That’s what they did when they removed mine, which would be totally fine if it wasn’t cancerous. But because there did end up being cancer in there (which was super unlikely) I had to go right back in for more surgery because I guess cutting it up before removal increases the chance of the cancer spreading. All that being said, I hope it completely benign and you never have to worry about it coming out!!
Update from anatomy scan part 2 yesterday- baby boy was in the perfect position to see his heart, profile and lip. They also reassessed his growth and he is now in the 20th percentile from the 8th so very happy about that! His heart is fine- they did see a Echogenic intracardiac focus which is a small bright spot seen in the baby's heart and is a soft marker for some genetic abnormalities like Down's syndrome but since I had a negative NIPT there is nothing to be worried about and they said it usually goes away in the 3rd trimester. Even though it was a pain to have to get scanned again it was nice to see the baby some more and we even saw him yawn!
Had our AS yesterday at 21w! Baby was a stinker and made it difficult to get all the necessary pics, so we'll be going back (I'm not too upset about more views of baby!).
We had no idea about gender prior to the AS (no genetic testing done earlier in pregnancy), and when it came time to check, baby had legs closed tightly! The ultrasound tech jiggled my belly quite a bit, and then BAM, legs open, and no denying that it's a BOY!
DH and I had both been kind of hoping for a girl. I have 5 sisters, and one brother who is much younger and I didn't grow up with, and DH has three sisters. I also have three girl cousins and only one boy cousin (all these siblings and cousins are much younger than me--10-18 years younger), so a boy is definitely uncharted territory for DH and I!
Just had our AS at 20+6 - pretty sure they got everything they needed. Both DH and I have noticed that we get a little stressed/panicky in the hospital so I think we are gonna have a more serious chat about home birth or what our coping strategies will be.
Is it just my hospital or do they make everyone wait until after they got all their measurements to let you see the baby? I was pretty stressed until a few minutes in the tech was like "everything is textbook so far".
Anyways, it was so freaking cool to see the heartbeat and bones and brain and kidneys and all the things. Just mind blowing. Also I have an anterior placenta.
Had my AS done today and baby is measuring a few days ahead (which I know can mean nothing on when it comes). We are still team green but I do know this baby is going to be so much like DS. Wiggle worm would not allow the tech to get a good picture of it's face but got great images of all the other stuff so don't have to have another ultrasound until 36 weeks unless something changes which is a relief so I don't have to find a babysitter for DS.
@jandawg the tech let me watch the whole time and let me know what she was measuring and pointed things out along the way. I'm a medical person so it was really interesting to me!! I was like it's so mind blowing that all the organs are there just super tiny!
@Spartanrd4@bookworm492 so jealous! I had to just lay there and kind of watch the techs face, couldn't see the screen at all, for probably 40 minutes until I was allowed to go pee and grab DH and then we both got to look at baby together. She still took us through all the different parts though.
@jandawg my OB practice employs their own ultrasound techs and has their own ultrasound equipment. They know my history of loss and they always find a heartbeat right away to let me know heartrate just to calm me down and ease my nerves (otherwise you can often hear my heartbeat on the ultrasound). Then we watch the ultrasound up on a 40 inch TV while she's doing it. She talked along with it some, taking care not to make a lot of judgmental/diagnostic comments about this is good/bad or whatever. They leave diagnostics up to the doctor. They do point out structures, etc. I know last pregnancy she turned off the TV some during ultrasounds, because we were team green, so we wouldn't accidently find out sex. But otherwise we see all of our ultrasounds on a big ole TV.
@jandawg I've had both experiences. My previous pregnancy they let us watch the whole thing except the part where they were checking genitals because we didn't want to know. This time I was at a different place and it was like your experience, I was just there playing on my phone for like 45 minutes until she was done and then she showed me the baby for like 2 minutes afterwards.
@anniemarie887@ninrms We have pretty good insurance but I should still check it lol. The baby was literally laying in the exact same position as last time!!!!!! And the tech even remembered us and it was like the same appt all over again, so frustrating!! LOL. He/she was actually awake! I was like trying to move it's body with my hands because I am so sick of this! I was coughing to try and wake him/her up, drank a freezing cold smoothie 15 min before appt, drank another cold drink during AT the appt, and jumped around in the US room....still nothing lol. Just a stubborn baby!! I will admit I don't mind seeing the baby this much!
@ktmaesim dannnnnng. clearly not a med professional here, but mine they had a trouble w/getting a couple of images so they were like we can do a vaginal and most likely get them... which wound up working. no idea if that would help you out?!
@holly321 ahhh!!! Glad I’m not alone even tho I do think this is getting a bit ridiculous. I go back next Tuesday....they’re sending me to another dept which has way better equipment so let’s cross our fingers for us both!!!
Monday was AS round #2. We got all the images we didnt get last time this time. But she wasn't able to get any of the ones she got last time this time. It's still all good news so I'm not worried.
However, I hate the ultrasound tech they use! Hate is a strong word, which is why I picked it. She is the coldest most aloof person I have ever meet. She bruises the crap out of my stomach every time. She never apologized for hurting me. When I ask a question she makes me feel like I'm annoying her and putting her out somehow. Grrr.
When she said well we can't re-do the images I got last time. You just have a very uncooperative baby. For some reason that made me so mad! I wanted to go off on her saying "she is an unborn baby, she isn't being uncooperative. She isn't refusing to do something out of malice. She was happy and comfortable until you started jamming a hard object into me and her."
I know what she meant was the baby's position was hard to read and she didn't change positions for us. But dang lady have some tact! You work in a medical setting with loads of pregnant women. Get a better personality or find a job you will actually enjoy and stop torturing both of us.
We had our anatomy scan at our last appointment. I was super nervous, I'd heard a lot of scary stories and we skipped genetic testing. Everything checked out great though, so relieved!! I've been worried this entire pregnancy about gestational diabetes though (it's always been something I just thought I would have) and he measured at the 69th percentile which I thought was a little large. Doctor didn't seem worried, but I haven't heard of many people having baby measure larger at the AS. Did anyone else have baby measure over the 50th percentile mark at this stage?
@kbee08 they didn’t tell me a % at my AS just the estimated oz baby weighed. There is a large margin for error but 69% isn’t crazy high. My sister went to a growth scan and they said she would be having a 7lb baby, she had an 8lb 11oz baby. I take their measurements with a grain of salt.
@kbee08 I did! I measured 3 days earlier than my due date. They didn't give me a percentage though. I do not suspect I have GD but I guess we'll see. My husband is a much larger than average human I figured that's all it is.

I'm never doing this again lol. And I've had a textbook easy pregnancy. I honestly don't know how moms of multiple kids do it.
I was only 2-days late with DD, so we'll see how things pan out this time.
