Today went as well as could be expected. The dr didn’t see any kind of soft markers for genetic issues but it was still kind of early so not everything was seen clearly. Fluid levels looked good from last week as well. Besides the size difference, there were poor Doppler’s from one of the arteries in the umbilical cord. That’s not necessarily cause for concern but could be an indication of placental insufficiency. It could also be a sign that there is a chromosomal issue as the placenta carries them if baby has something. Unfortunately there is really no way to avoid an amnio. We are planning on going through with our next scan. Baby should be bigger so we will be able to get a clearer look, see if she’s still growing etc. The amnio will more than likely be done that day.
@kbrown2385 im sorry your appointment didnt give you more clarity or reassurance. I know it is much easier said than done but try not to worry & be kind to yourself. Xxx
@kbrown2385, I'm sorry you weren't able to find out more information. DS had soft markers for downs when I went in for my amnio. Since I was there for that reason, it wasn't a big deal, but it was nerve wracking and made the wait all the more difficult. In the end, everything was perfectly fine. Remember, an amnio is really a lot safer that Dr Google and statistics imply, and it gives you an excuse to be a total couch potato for a day or two. I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have.
@FyreFlyeRush thank you for sharing your experience with the amnio. I’ve settled down after doing some more research, but I’m sure I’ll have more questions the closer we get.
@kbrown2385 sorry you didn't get more reassurance at this appt. Hopefully your next scan is clearer. The amnio doesn't sound as bad as reputation suggests and if it gives you a definitive answer for peace of mind then it's well worth it. Keeping you in my thoughts! ❤
had a good midwife appointment yesterday, we agreed to do the glucose test around 28 weeks and then do a repeat one later after 30 weeks. I'm actually happy with this since with DD I definitely had diabetes like symptoms near the end and DD came out massive for someone who is so tiny, so they want to double check I don't develop it later on since apparently some women do!
Definitely happy since I doubt my old OB would have gone for any of this
I had my anatomy scan yesterday. I haven't gotten official "results" yet but the u/s tech seemed pretty cheerful and they didn't call a doctor right in (they can and do) so I assume all was well. I have an anterior placenta which is good to know because I have been feeling much less movement than I did with my son. Baby girl was clearly sleeping so they had to jiggle my stomach to get her to move a few times. She was not measuring huge, which is happy news. The tech described her as "slightly above average."
@c1kc1kpol1cn1k that's great that your MW is going to tailor the GD testing protocol to your history. FX you don't develop it but always better to know if you do.
@Xstatic3333 congrats on the good scan. I really don't want a big baby. I would be happy with slightly above average! DH was huge so I'm not super hopeful...
@c1kc1kpol1cn1k glad the MW is listening. I just had an experience with my OB where I'm annoyed. I feel like she brushed off a concern because I'm in normal limits. She hasn't done this alot but still annoyed so I'm glad you're concern was listened to!
I had my anomaly scan today. it was long & awkward as both babies were quite active but we got all the measurements & seen everything that was needed & all is looking good. Its looking like we’re team purple!! Babies are one on top of each other rather than side by side, measuring a day ahead & only about 4% difference size wise between them. @kbrown2385 the radiographer who did our scan said with these type of twins they dont worrry unless it goes over 25% difference in size as they have 2 different genetic make ups.
Had an midwife appt today and got to see the babies again. Both had great heartbeats so it helped settle my PGAL anxiety that’s been creeping up the past few days. She also helped me relax about the amnio tomorrow and gave it to me straight about the pain level. Babies have moved and are now laying criss-cross. Baby a was hitting baby b through the sac. It was hysterical to see her hit him back. Something to look forward to i suppose lol.
@leprechaunlady preliminary results are back within a few days, up to two weeks with the micro array results. I have another scan in two weeks with mfm so I hope we will be able to discuss them then.
@marebear15 the midwife told me good luck with them 😆🤦🏻♀️
I swear, this is like the never ending saga of my amnio 🤦🏻♀️. We didn’t get it done today. Baby a is still measuring a week ahead, baby b is still measuring a week behind. Their growth discordance went from 35% to 41%. Her sac is smaller and she is pretty much taking up all of it. The dr said her only option was a small area through her placenta but really close to her umbilical cord. She didn’t feel 100% with it and obviously I don’t want the dr doing it not feeling confident. We go back on the 4th to try again. On the plus side, blood flow through her umbilical cord looked normal, which is better than our last scan so that was reassuring. The ultrasound tech also said she didn’t find any anomalies on the anatomy she was able to see.
While I was signing the consent forms I asked the geneticist what way she was leaning. She said she felt that there was probably nothing wrong but obviously the testing will give us answers. I felt that was reassuring since she sees this kind of stuff all the time.
@kbrown2385 I’m sorry this has been dragged out for you so much, but it sounds like you’ve at least gotten some reassuring news!
I had my anatomy scan bright and early this morning, and all went well apart from having a very uncooperative baby. She started off the scan breech and had flipped to head down by the end of it trying to get away from the pokes and prods or the U/S tech. All measurements they were able to get were fine, but they weren’t able to get good heart pics due to her positions (or any cute profile shots), so they’re going to do another scan at my 28 week appt. In other news, I’ve gained a total of 10 lbs so far. Eek.
Baby seems to be kicking along, literally, just fine. He started by immediately kicking the doppler. My blood pressure is down a total of 25pts, and 10 since I started taking the meds. Yay!!! Still on 4w appts, but I will have to start having weekly ultrasounds at 28w. I have mixed feelings about that.
Saw the OB today and they had a hard time finding the heartbeat. For once I was not freaking out because baby was so active I could feel it and hear it on the Doppler. Took like 3 minutes of chasing baby around before they could get it to pick up. It was kind of funny and I forgot how amazing it is to feel baby moving! I'm always amazed and what our bodies can do.
At the OB right now. She had a hard time finding the heart beat with the doppler so we did an ultrasound. I tried my best not to panic and thankfully the ultrasound showed a nice, healthy heart beat and we could see him squirming all over the place! It was pretty cool, I could see his little skeleton! Unfortunately, my blood pressure is reading high so I'm currently waiting to do labs and trying my best to relax. I'm really nervous because my OB said it's early in my pregnancy for my blood pressure to be high but just gotta wait for the labs and go from there. 😬
@MollySm they should be back next week. I have a follow up appt this Thursday to recheck my blood pressure. Hoping it comes down otherwise I may soon need to be put on medication and/or bedrest 😖 honestly though, I feel totally fine, but we'll see what happens.
@peppyj9 depending on when they checked and how high it was, it could have been high due to the stress of not finding the heartbeat quickly. Hopefully labs come back normal!
@persnickity thank you. my OB suggested that as well, that I may have just been stressed from the appt, especially since I was nervous to begin with since I hadn't been seen in over a month and then trouble finding heartbeat 😯 But the top # was reading140 so she wanted to do labs just to be sure I'm not developing preeclampsia or anything, although I haven't had any other symptoms. Now that I've seen baby very much active, I feel much more relaxed, so hopefully blood pressure will show that when I go back Thursday and labs come back normal 🤞
@peppyj9 Ask if you can take your blood pressure at home too. For some people, it can be elevated only at the doctor's office - white coat syndrome. ☺️
@peppyj9, mine has been yucky from the get go this pregnancy. I think it's due to my loss in January. At one point it was 155/90. But, if they check it again after the appointment, once I've learned everything is fine, it drops. White coat syndrome is real. They put me on baby aspirin and Lobetalol for the rest of my pregnancy as a precaution. The upside is I get weekly growth scans from 28 weeks on.
