I just found out that I'm pregnant! I'm now at that stage of paranoia where I'm worried about not putting the right things into my body for baby. I was out looking for milk earlier, grabbed some skim and saw that it had vitamin a palmitate in it. ALL but whole milk had vitamin a palmitate in it. I'm horrible about turning to the internet for answers, especially right now because I don't have my first visit to my OB until the 27th. What sort of milks do you guys use during your pregnancies and what REALLY is considered safe?? Thanks in advance!
I kept reading that vitamin a palmitate could be harmful to the pregnancy, but I've since found the answer I needed. Supplements of this vitamin can be harmful if you're taking in vitamin a excessively, but eating/drinking foods that contain it generally are okay, I guess?
The internet can be both extremely helpful and not at all sometimes!
I mean there really isn't that much stuff you CANNOT have while pregnant. You absolutely should not smoke or take illegal drugs. You should run OTC and prescription medications past your OBGYN. You shouldn't be drinking really (an occasional small glass of wine after first tri has not been proven to be harmful though). You should not be having multiple servings a week of high-mercury fish. And obviously if there has been a noted listeria outbreak in a certain kind of food, you may want to avoid that food until the outbreak is contained. But truly...eating as a pregnant person is not very different from eating as a non-pregnant person (unless you have bad nausea, in which case eating as a pregnant person can be terribly difficult).
Take your prenatal vitamins and eat what you want. Indulge in moderation, and don't do drugs or smoke, but there isn't like a necessary learning curve for Eating While Pregnant.

You do realuze breathing air contains chemicals, carcinogens, etc right? Honestly you can not be that paranoid over stuff. Eat a balanced diet, eat what you can stomach. Yes there are things you should try to avoid (nicotine, drugs. Alcohol, etc as PP said), but you cant be paranoid over every little thing.
Honestly I had a friend the only thing she could stomach her 1st tri was Kraft mac and cheese, cereal and crackers. After she got through the worst part she went back to eating her normal meals. Nothing wrong with her or baby and in fact doc was worried she did not gain enough weight during preg.
I'll echo @delujm0 - You can pretty much eat what you want within moderation. I was really careful with my firstborn's diet (breastfeeding, organic fruits/veggies when he was 18 months old) and now he's 4 and pretty much lives off of Cheetos and mac n cheese. Somehow he's still alive and growing just fine *shrug* you'll relax about it over time.

I don't buy anything but whole milk. The fat found in whole milk, in my opinion, is healthy fat. But no, skin milk is not going to hurt your baby.
