@dpchickens flash mobs sound like your favorite 😆 that stopped being a thing right? Or are people still doing those for proposals?

@inthewoods23 I feel like I *can't even* w/ that first tri thread, [esp. considering what happened at that wedding this weekend, which was too much--& a much smaller crowd. I am plus one for hating a gender reveal, though, so at least I would've hated that part of the wedding "surprises" no matter what...] First of all, gender is a social construction... & too much of the time it seems to pit the parents against each other--the mom/women are rooting for pink & the dudes for blue & it's like just be happy that you're having a baby & root for it to be healthy & stop this utter nonsense... As for the fireworx specifics, I feel like if it's subtle enough that literally no one will know but the people who it's for and not costing the taxpayers any money, it's whatever-- ExCePt that the ppl that were there are going to find out about it on, like, FB or the five o'clock news if it goes viral. Gender reveals are dumb and the lengths ppl go to in order to make theirs unique/newsworthy has gotten to be too much. ::Steps off of soapbox::

@inthewoods23 I mentioned this on the 1st Tri post, but I’ve seen public gender reveals and I do find them annoying. At a restaurant when they didn’t book the whole thing, just had a big table. The co-worker who individually brought a gender reveal cupcake into my personal office to give me so that I had to pretend I was happy for her. To be fair, she brought them for everyone, but it was not good timing for me. Even when I’m not at my most bitter, those would have been annoying.

kagesstarshroom I also don't get all the planning around the gender reveals. Many of these are done SO far in advance, and I'm sitting here like... do you KNOW how high your MC chance still is when you started planning this? Do you KNOW you haven't even had the anatomy scan yet? What if you find out your child isn't going to live to be born because it has a serious issue or something? But yet you're more concerned with some giant party when you DON"T EVEN KNOW IF EVERYTHING IS OK YET?!?!?

Andplusalso, WHAT if you happen to be the person who gives birth to a child who is a hermaphrodite? Or what if they can't get a clear enough scan a few days before your giant REVEAL and aren't certain? Like... the STRESS!!!!

@kagesstarshroom @dpchickens I’m also pretty much opposed to gender reveals, especially public ones. I’m a huge proponent of team green. I’m a planner, but I realize all babies need the same stuff and hate when everything is blue/pink.

@MrsVP614 I think they’re cute when people do them with like super close friends and family but don’t make a huge deal about it. I hate when they’re themed like “tutus or touchdowns”... way to force that upon the poor child ha.

If my SIL and her BF get to that point and do a reveal, it's either going to be "tutus or tractors" (he loves John Deere) or "guns or glitter" (he loves guns). Regardless I'm going to gag.

Yeah. Themes for gender reveals are definitely gross. Like, have your closest family and friends over and have some cake. Can’t the theme just be “cake is delicious”?

@shamrocandroll More cake for me! Though I am not the biggest fan of cake. It has to be, like, the best cake. That peanut butter cake I made for DH, for example, for his 40th--that was the best cake.

@inthewoods I want to do a ZODIAC SIGN REVEAL, but then, you never know when a baby is actually going to be born so that wouldn't exactly work but STILL. (Not that you always 100% KNOW w/ gender, either, I will stress the point.)

I'm so freaking glad I'm not alone at not liking gender reveals!!! My SiL did a small, immediate family only one for her second, and that was ok just because there was no theme per se, just poppers that had pink confetti in them. I cannot imagine doing a public one. Vom.

....I think my zodiac reveal idea would be even better if we just called it a "REVEAL PARTY" & then ppl would assume it was a gender reveal & then we'd cut the cake or something & it'd be like "it's a..... SCORPIO!" & we'd both jump up & down... like, do you bring a gift/money to a gender reveal? bc I'm all about getting as many gifts/monies as possible lolol.

@kagesstarshroom I didn't even know that bringing gifts or money for gender reveal was a thing until a few months ago! It had never occurred to me that anybody would see a gender reveal as a gift grab. Isn't that what the baby shower is for??

@inthewoods See, I didn't even know & was *mostly* joking (at doing it for the $ solely, not about wanting to have a "Zodiac Reveal!" party lol), but I guess..... it's like having an engagement party? Showers are usually one-gender & an engagement party is everyone... I always just bring a card to an engagement party for exactly that reason. You're getting something at yr shower AND at the wedding, sooooo.

I agree that the public huge gender reveal thing is annoying.

FFTC... Sex/gender reveal *TW* my own pregnancy mentioned *TW*

For my second pregnancy (that resulted in my only LC) I did a firework reveal of the sex of my baby. I had my 20 week anatomy scan and left to go to our annual friends and family weekend 4th of July party at my parents lake house. Everyone there already knew I was pregnant and was there for the weekend gathering. We started our annual fireworks show with a pink firework/smoke bomb and then continued on with the show. Nothing else about the weekend had to do with revealing the sex, we did have cake, but that was to celebrate my birthday like we do every year. So we literally lit off the firework, talked/celebrated with our friends and family and then moved on to the regular weekend activities. It was fun.

@mercury94 Yeah, boo. Downtime plus they have you on BC for at least 18 days prior to the meds for FETs. Oh well. A June due date actually works better for us since it won't be in the middle of competition season for the program we mentor.

It's raining buckets here and I'm only 95% sure I didn't leave any windows open after coming back from lunch 😅 I think I closed the sunroof 😬
