@inthewoods23 -- I agree with trying journaling since you've found it a bit therapeutic! I've experienced it feeling almost like a chore before and it can be uncomfortable to take time for yourself to write down your feelings...but when you get in the habit it can help to get things on a page so they're not just swimming in your head. It can help to get perspective -- "these are things that are bothering me, I can see them on the page and reflect on them." It sounds silly but maybe you could even go out and get a nice journal that you really like the look of to make it into a nice ritual that you look forward to?
So the vacation is pretty much not optional I assume? I would say you should try to go away just yourselves but I know your H/you might feel obligated and it might be too late to bail. If you have to go I agree with @mercury94 -- can you try to sneak off a bit, go into a nearby town to look around with H or go on a walk when things get stressy? It is YOUR vacation too and you should have the right to spend it in ways that make you feel relaxed!
In terms of being vocal and saying you need a stress-free vacation....I would maybe put it on DH to say this since it's his family. But I wonder if it would invite questions and force you into a situation where you have to reassure ppl "No everything's fine, blah blah," which could cause more stress for you. If you think your ILs would be respectful of your space, I would say have DH give them a head's up, but otherwise I would just try to go into the vacation holding on to the idea that it's supposed to be a relaxing time and you're going to do what you need to do to make sure it's relaxing for you. If they see a little less of you this year, they'll live.
Also I'm a huge proponent of therapy!! You might even be able to find one you specializes in people dealing with reproductive issues...PsychologyToday.com has a whole directory.

  • Lol @chichiphin.

Yes we definitely have options for still going (cuz we do love it there, nice and peaceful) but also having our alone time. With the BF joining us we've been renting a pontoon boat since DH's family's boat can't hold all 6 of us so there's always an option to go separate ways on some days and still all be out on the lake (which is a chain of lakes so we don't even have to be that near them).

Also the walks in the morning are heavenly ❤️. Did I mention the lake is IN THE WOODS? 😁

  • @chichiphin I'm like that too where I'm all "I have an opinion on this!" and then read what someone else wrote and decide that they worded my thoughts better than I ever could so I go with the "yes, exactly that. 100% agree"

  • @inthewoods23 I don't really have much to add that others haven't already said but you should never feel bad for putting you and YH first.  Writing in a journal never really worked for me because I always got behind but I do write letters to people and never send them.

@inthewoods23 would it be an option to go but rent your own place nearby so that you are at least able to regroup each night? I feel like that would make it less stressful

well I guess that changes my comment about being impressed you are going to HIO with your dad in the house.
  • @stassischroeder wow I’m sorry you saw that! Like obviously my parents must have gotten it on to have my brother and I but I like to pretend they’ve done it twice ever and then never again since bc for some reason I find it icky... I definitely couldn’t handle finding their “stuff” without therapy

....just like the reaction I had to a CENTIPEDE CRAWLING ON MY CHEST IN THE BATHROOM AS I WAS GETTING READY THIS MORNING

@bows22 at this point no, it would be near impossible to find a place to stay this close to the vacation week. We're at a very popular summer area and I'm sure places to rent for a week are all booked (especially being the week after 4th of July). DH and I will probably put more effort into vacationing up here at our own place for next year so we can finally enjoy each other and just having more space. The kitchen there is very small and a whole section of counter always gets taken up by bottles of booze, most of which don't even get touched when we're there, or maybe used once. Feels slightly too cramped for us 6 people.

  • @chichiphin I legit just cackled in my office. 🤣
  • @tyrion_ "Got me flustered" might be my new favorite phrase. I love the new avatar, btw. :) There is a mug on Amazon that says "I knit and I know things". If I was a GOT fans, I would definitely need it, but I can't justify buying it when I have never seen an episode.
  • @emeraldduchess I have a tumbler with it written on it and it inspired my change. My old avatar was too dark.
