  • @emeraldcity1214 happy birthday!!!  I crack up at the geriatric term whenever I hear it, they couldn’t have chose something a bit more forgiving?  Enjoy your day 🎉

  • Happy birthday, @emeraldcity1214!!! Welcome to the geriatric club!!

I am working from home today and and at 8pm tonight my husband and I will be wheels up and on our way to the UK! We land in London then are taking a train to Edinburgh, staying there 2 nights, then driving up to Isle of Skye for 4 nights before heading back to London! I hope to get a good HDBD pic for next week!
  • @runningfortwo81 Have fun! That trip sounds amazing!

    @emeraldcity1214 Happy Birthday!!

@runningfortwo81 gah! Have so much fun!!! That sounds amazing!

  • Is it normal for grandmothers to want to feed your kids. I'm talking like a 5 and 3 year old. She does it to my 1 year old too. I think it is ridiculous and it drives me crazy. Just let them eat! If they say they are done, stop force feeding them. 😑
  • Have a great trip @runningfortwo81!!

MH does the forcefeeding sometimes with DS, who is two. Like, he's two, if he doesn't finish his dinner it is what it is to me. He eats quite enough.
  • @emeraldcity1214 it must be in their manual.  My mil always tries to bribe for one more bite of dinner after she fed him junk for an hour 🤷🏼‍♀️.  My mum just shows up with “treats” every time she comes over and cuts his and my nieces’ food up like baby size (I’m talking cubed sandwiches, they’re more than capable of taking bites out of a grilled cheese!).
  • It's literally driving me crazy. They don't need to be babied. I'm trying not to let all the little things get to me because we have a long trip ahead of us and she is helping me out a ton. It is just so hard!
  • I need to rant: I just got home after being in the car for an hour and a half with my son crying half the way home.  My husband’s working today, so we didn’t get to hang with him (24hr shifts).  We planned to go to the fire station to see him before a family cookout.  When we got on the highway to go visit there was a ton of traffic so we (guiltily) decided to skip the visit and got off after half hour of stop and go and drove backroads to my sister’s for dinner.  We finally get there and my son promptly threw up all over the driveway, my Dad’s shoes (happy papa’s day?), and my hair (luckily we were not inside, I know, but I just got a hair cut and it actually looked nice for once).

So, back in the car we went, pukey hair and all, and drove home.  Luckily there was not traffic, but it’s still a half hour ride.  He was upset he didn’t get to play with my nieces so was crying and now I’m scared of dealing with the dreaded toddler stomach bug for the second time during this pregnancy 😭.  To make things worse, my husband worked the last time my son was sick, so now I get to deal with it alone again.  Really hoping he was just car sick, but that’s never happened before.  Can 2 year olds get car sick??

Send helllllppppp.  I could really use a cold glass of wine right about now!
  • Finally home after our trip and catching up on everything.

@rogro118 - That sooooo sucks.  Treat yourself to some ice cream or maybe schedule a hair appointment.  Something to look forward to.  Hope he feels better soon.  (And I so hear you on the wine)

    Happy Birthday @emeraldcity1214 !!!!

And thank you for you being my sounding board during my rough in-laws trip.  For anyone interested, I told my husband that I would either be getting a hotel (by myself) or I would drive the youngest and I home and come back to get him Sunday.  He opted for the hotel.  BEST DECISION EVER!!!  I don't think I'll ever stay in their house again. :)

  • @emeraldcity1214 happy belated birthday!

@running4two hope you are having an amazing time on your trip!

@rogro118 oh no! That is just a sucky day! I hope you had a glass of wine last night after your son went to bed! (Or before 😉)
  • @rogro118 I hope your LO feels better soon!

@Dancer688 That's awesome! I'm so glad yall were able to sleep comfortably. We always opt for a hotel. It is just nice to be in our own space.

  • @emeraldcity1214 @Dancer688 thanks!  He seems better this morning.  My father in law just came by and said that my husband started getting car sick around my son’s age, so that’s a fun new tid bit of information 🙃😐. He’s still rear facing so I might switch him, he’s 3 in September and I really wanted to wait until then, but we’ll see.

@kopp5988 thanks!  No wine for me, I avoid it during pregnancy, or at least save it for third tri if there’s a special event.  I settled for leftover Chinese food, that’s the same thing right?! 😂
  • Has anyone started on their nursery yet?  I have started putting the baby's things in the guest room which is soon to be converted but I haven't set up anything else quite yet.
  • @Dancer688 we won’t be starting it until at least September since it’s currently my son’s room and we have to move him to a room hat currently is gutted.  Honestly his nursery wasn’t ready until he was like 2 months old so I’m not too worried 😂. But, I have started planning what I want it to look like!
  • @Dancer688 we are making DS's playroom the nursery and so far we've just moved all the toys out and into his bedroom. When we get home from our trip at the beginning of July we plan to pull DS's baby gear out of the attic and start putting the nursery together.

Last pregnancy we moved when I was 34 weeks and then  didnt get our household goods until I was 37 weeks and I hated waiting so late to put the nursery together. So I'm excited to be able to do it sooner this time.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • ugh, I think all this baby is getting is a corner of our room, haha. Sometime in the first year we'll decide if we will put the kids in together or if we will redo one of the bedrooms upstairs for baby.
  • @creamcheeseplease same! I do wish I could set up a nursery but we don't have the room. If I really tried I could probably make a dedicated space in part of my living room but I don't want to get comfortable with anything like that. Hoping to have the funds to buy a home and move before baby turns 1 🤞

    @ABabyMarshall @creamcheeseplease
Struggling here too. I’m pretty sure she’ll be in our room for at least a couple months. We have the room but the room I want the baby in (next to ours) is a strange situation. The closet for this room is actually above the garage and has a window in it so the poorly insulated closet really messes with the temperature in the room. Our other bedroom is by the bathroom and I don’t really want her in there until she needs a bathroom and prefer to save that for guests for the time being.
  • We officially moved out of our house. I'm so sad because that was our very first house. I left the new owners some fresh baked cookies (tied in little bags I use for our bake sales at church) on a giving plate I made at MOPs with a card.

My husband didn't get to the hotel until almost 7 this morning. We only made it 2.5 hours up the road too. So I guess he worked most of the night moving stuff out and cleaning the tile floors. He better have cleaned the tile floors.

After what I saw, I'm planning to go through and do another big purge of all our things. Especially toys! They do not need that much stuff.
  • @cl4157 @ABabyMarshall I'm struggling with the decision since I was honestly much happier once DS moved out of our room when he was about 4 months, even though he still got up in the night for a long time. I think because I couldn't hear every single tiny movement that would wake me up when he slept next to me.

I'm a little annoyed today because one of my side jobs sent me a meeting invitation for me to do a quick presentation this morning. While I can usually rearrange my schedule to do this presentation (which I have done several times already), I am feeling prickly that they didn't ask me if it was good for me, only sent me a meeting invitation yesterday for today. I have a regular 9-5 job as well, and now I need to find somewhere to do this presentation where my actual boss here won't stumble upon me, lol. My officemate is usually working from home on Wednesdays, but today she is here, unfortunately, so I can't use my office.
  • @emeraldcity1214 so sweet of you to leave cookies for the new owners! I'm sure so many feels come with moving but I hope you are excited for the next chapter ❤️

@creamcheeseplease I hate when people aren't considerate of your time. I hope you find the time and space to do the presentation or if you haven't confirmed yet don't be afraid to say no!
  • aww that is sweet @emeraldcity1214 about the cookies! It's amazing how much stuff gets accumulated.

@ABabyMarshall I think I found a room, so I'll do it. But you're right, I should have just proposed a new time if this one didn't end up working out for me. Sometimes that's hard for me for some reason. Also I need the $$. Haha.
  • @rogro118 wow that was some serious pregnancy brain on my part lol. Like forgetting you were obviously pregnant so can’t have wine (or at least only the occasional small glass depending on your views). Whoops! 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Dancer688 haven’t set anything up but I’ve started looking at cribs this week online

@emeraldcity1214 so exciting!! When do you arrive in Alaska?

@creamcheeseplease I hope you’re able to find somewhere your boss won’t find you!

I had a client on one of my projects email me at 645am requesting a conference call at 8am with myself, one of my bosses and a few other people at other firms. I didn’t get in until 845 today so needless to say I missed the call. I asked my boss if he had been in early enough to attend and his response was f*** no, no way! Lol so at least I wasn’t the only person who found it rude as hell.
  • cl4157cl4157 member
@kopp5988 so rude. I work across all the time zones and always send options out before I make a move like that. Literally nothing is that important to inconvenience every single other person.
  • @kopp5988 - That is crazy that they thought 2 hours before would be sufficient time PRE-NORMAL WORK HOURS to have a call.  It is one thing to do that like mid-day as long as you know everyone is there, still ugh but at least it is within the normal 9-5 time frame.

I definitely don't miss working on my client sites.  I loved the people and challenging work but sometimes the expectations was that I would work all random hours, in fact on a REALLY bad snowday one time my client picked me up so I could get to the office because he really wanted to finish a project.  It was literally just me and that boss and one other consultant that we picked up that morning.  Very empty office.
  • Not baby related BUT I've been buying Lush gifts for years because they have such beautifully wrapped gift sets. I just bought one as an end of year school gift for my son's para and I realized I have never once been given or used a Lush product lol I hope they are as good as they say 😂😂 one day
  • @ABabyMarshall well it looks like you should go shopping!  Seriously though, get some nice soap and shampoo to bring to the hospital, that first shower after birth is the best you’ll ever take!
  • @rogro118 ugh, you are so right! For my son, the shower was shared by all the other mother's in the unit and I totally was skeeving going in there but it was actually amazing just to shower/be alone. Maybe I'll buy myself a Lush set and throw a bath bomb down and pretend I'm home. Treat yoself!
  • @ABabyMarshall ah, I haven't been to Lush in so long, I used to go all the time when I worked in NYC. And an employee who left my department a couple years ago got me the best soap from there, I miss it!
  • @kopp5988 we are driving up to Minnesota for our family reunion. I have been telling everyone we were headed to Wisconsin. I'm not sure why I got that confused. We fly to Alaska this Sunday.

    @ABabyMarshall Wow that would
be super weird. So did someone have to clean it between each use?? I know what my first post birth shower looked like and it was a bloody mess 😬
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kurtni - Hahahahahahaa Same.  It was nice to shower but not going to lie it was a bit like a crime scene.
  • @Kurtni I hope at least frequently! Did you have private shower?!?  It was a single shower but I had to leave my room to go to it. I'm glad I brought flip flops lol Speaking of bloody mess the first woman I shared a room with would leave a mess in our shared bathroom every time and it was friggin disgusting. Like I get it we're all screwed up top to bottom and things are messy but I should not have to wipe up your blood. I was too afraid to say anything then but now I wish I did
  • @creamcheeseplease the sets always smell really nice and I think the quality is supposed to be top notch/vegan/environmentally friendly. Can't wait to try it myself lol
  • This conversation is eye opening, I didn’t know hospitals still did shared rooms, or common showers 😐 I would not be a happy camper in that situation!  How the heck do you get any sleep sharing a room with another mom and their newborn??  It just reminds me of the episode of friends when Rachel is in labor and all the people are in and out, then Janice shows up
  • @rogro118 😯 whattttt lol yes I had to share a room. It was baby in room situation too and I was always worried about his crying disturbing her or her baby. Made it pretty nerve wracking. Private rooms were suites you had to pay out of pocket for, a couple hundred a night. I'm a little worried because in comparison, the hospital I'm set to give birth in now is even LESS "nice" and even busier and I'd imagine more cramped for space. I'll let you know after the hospital tour.

Are private rooms the norm?? I hardly had my own delivery room, they wheeled me in there from triage at 10 CM 😂

@ABabyMarshall - I have been in 2 different hospitals with both my girls.  Both had private rooms and private showers which I have just assumed is the norm.  I had no idea that others still had to share.  I am on to my third hospital with this one.  (Yay moving) I didn't even realize that I might have to share.  That would be terrible!

Edit:  Just checked because I was legit concerned.  This 3rd hospital will also be all private rooms and bathrooms.  Sigh of relief over here.
  • @rogro118 @Dancer688 I am shocked and jealous and kind of upset. I also just did some research on my hospital and there are ZERO private rooms, not even an option if we had extra $ to spare on it.

Worse, my husband will not be able to stay overnight with me which was not the case with my first hospital. One female visitor can stay overnight though (???) It's like prison. I did read the care is great in this hospital and they are very experienced...deliver the most babies per year in the state and someone even said the whole country which is maybe a good or bad thing lol frickkkk
