I spent the weekend hanging out with family and hitting up some garage sales. I've never really shopped second-hand before, but I knew of a couple people (who I know have clean, smoke-free homes!) who were selling baby gear and baby clothes. So we decided to stop by. We ended up with TONS of great quality baby clothes, some of which still had tags on, for under $50. I'm so excited to get started organizing baby girl's closet!
Second hand is my go to if I’m being honest. The only thing I bought new with DS was the crib, only bought care seat because the person was a trusted family friend, otherwise this would have been a new purchase. Well I guess bottles and some toys too. I’ve had good luck for most part with ppl being honest on swap shops about smoke free. But we have a consignment store here just for littles under 8ish and I get a lot of stuff there now. I hate buying lots of stuff new because it is used such a short amount of time.
We had no plans this weekend, which was awesome. We grilled dinners on our back deck, went on walks to the playground, I started knitting the baby blanket, and began organizing our baby clothes and gear. This baby will be born in a different season, so there are definitely some gaps I need to fill in clothing and some upgrades I may want to make with some of our stuff, so I’m glad I’m going through it all now.
We received 3 containers of boy clothes from a friend who is pregnant with their last (and it's a girl). It's such a win and the best part is that it's all for my favorite price...FREE.
On a more somber note, my phone died for no reason last night so now I feel like I'm missing a limb. How did early 2000s Marbellie handle this? And MH is out of town for a few weddings so I'm truly cut off from civilization but for my desktop.
Happy Monday, ladies! I'm having a doh moment and realizing I should have gone garage-saleing this weekend too. There were tons around town - one of our neighbors even had one - and I didn't even think about it. We had a pretty quiet, lazy weekend - worked around the house and went out for a nice date night dinner on Saturday. Yesterday was rainy so we used it as an excuse to stay in, shampoo the carpets, and binge watch some shows.
For some reason I am super grumpy today. I really have nothing to complain about. My work day is very manageable, the sun is shining, I'm not sick, etc. But I am grumpy as hell and can't seem to help it!

OMG yes garage sales are so much fun, esp when the weather is as beautiful as it was. I too love to by 2nd hand. We just lost this one consignment shop called Savers. It was the best. I don't like to buy everything used but most things yes and this place was great for baby stuff. I might check out the Just Between Friends events. They too apparently have wonderful deals on baby/kids items.
We had a nice but busy weekend. We did a BBQ at our friends house, which mean laundry all day yesterday for me. It's cool though cause Hubby offered to clean the kitchen so I could take a nap. And then he took DD for a walk while I worked on laundry.
I watched the Book Club with Diane Keaton. I love cheesy chick flicks so I enjoyed it.
Phew, work was poppin this morning. And I totally forgot I have a lunch time dentist appt (yet for fillings...). Thankfully everything is local and I didnt have to rush to get here but I NEED FOOD! Looks like I'll be running home to make a smoothie for lunch.
House shopping this weekend was a bust. Realtors are magicians behind the camera. Looks like we are expanding our search by another town. I didn't want to because it's not exactly a great town but its "up and coming" I suppose. Ugh.
I did the opposite of yard and garage sales (even though our neighborhood was having a huge community yard sale)... I purged! So. Much. Stuff. kicked to the curb and it feels so good. Organized all the summer clothes in the boy's room, packed up bins of all the clothes that don't fit anymore, and moved the furniture around to accommodate DS1's new bed a little better. Now I feel like I can focus on all the baby stuff that we need to pull out of the basement. Also, the boys slept over at my parent's house on Saturday night and Sunday morning was absolute quiet bliss.
@jenferlee82 Sounds like you need to take yourself out for an iced coffee + donuts. Or mani/Pedi. Or nap. Or all of the above.
I’m jealous of y’alls relaxing weekends! Mine was nice but busy. Every summer all the ladies from our office get to go to the coast for a weekend. We get a great house with a pool and spend one day at the beach. It’s a lot of fun but I’m just worn out!
I work weekends but SO cleaned the garage up and the house too. I love garage sales!! And we have a consignment shop abiut 40nminutes from us that I love! Baby clothes are usually about .25 cents to 2.00. same for blankets, shoes, hats, tights and mittens! They sell just about everything as well. We love it.
Yay for second-hand clothing! Pretty much all of DS' clothing was from my nephew/BIL and it's such a great way to save money. Clothing waste is ridiculous in the USA and glad so many of us are taking advantage of shopping garage sales or getting hand-me-downs! I "officially" started an Amazon registry this past week with the basics of what I know we will need for this LO and that really makes me want to get DS' room ready/more prepped for the baby.

I’m at my annual emergency response training, and all I really want to do is nap
@cmbt2, I feel your pain, lady. We had a required annual refresher training this morning, and I definitely felt my eyes slip closed a few times. This was me the whole time:
Does anyone else get kind of started/jumpy when baby moves? I love feeling her move so much, but sometimes a huge movement or roll comes out of no where and my stomach seems to flip a little. Almost like I'm on a roller coaster! Whenever it happens, I joke that she's doing gymnastics and working on her back flip.
@galentine I do, all of the time! I swear the big kicks make me jump 5-10 times/day, especially when she's been quiet for a while then suddenly makes a big move.
@prpl11butterfly what if you search by school district rather than town? Our zip code doesn’t actually match the town we live in so our area never pops up when you search the town. The zip code matches a rundown city that we actually have nothing to do with, but that’s what the post office decided to do. I know our realtor was able to draw boundaries within towns, too, to make staying in the good neighborhoods easier.
@cmbt2 ours is pretty straightforward. We have 1 random zip code affiliated with our town but it still shows up in search (as do 2 other local zips that each cover 2 towns). Our realtor said the market is crazy right now and its been a long time since she's seen it this way.
It looks like our plan if we don't find something in the next couple of months, is to swap N and DS around and then DS will share with DD. N is NOT going to be pleased 1 little bit.....
Sounds like everyone had such a good weekend! @prpl11butterfly I'm sorry the hunt is still on but I'm sure you'll find something soon that suits you guys. @marbellie yikes on not having a phone! Strangely enough I just had a nap nightmare where I lost mine and it was just awful! Hope you get a new one soon. @jenferlee82 I feel your pain. Grumpy out of nowhere and have been all day.
We started a mini kitchen renovation (switching out the cabinets) yesterday so I'm sure its because everything in the upstairs of our house is all topsy turvy right now, but it's no help to know it. Plus I'm missing my little one who has been with mema since Saturday night. Pretty sick to my stomach the last couple days to boot so I'm just trying to rest/sleep it all off.

Oh and I totally forgot to mention, does anyone else feel like they're super pregnant all of a sudden? I swear just this weekend was the breaking point. It's so hard to get up and down off the floor, bend in half, etc. I felt almost normal still just a week ago.

@cooaladolly I don't feel pregnant all of a sudden (though I'm a FTM due at the end of October), but I did start feeling the baby move on Saturday, so it's definitely becoming more real now!

YES! Literally just this weekend I had a moment when I was trying to put something away on a top shelf and couldn't reach it comfortably, then later the same day I needed to "roll up" off of the couch a bit. I was like WTH, when did I suddenly get super pregnant?

I started feeling this way about 2 weeks ago! Trouble getting out of bed was my first sign. Good luck on the kitchen remodel! I hope you’re able to share pictures.
YES to having to roll myself up from a lying position. So awkward. It's kind of concerning me though..... like, if my ab muscles are so weak that i can't even right myself, how am I supposed to push out a watermelon in 3 months?

You actually use your pooping muscles to push 🙈
its very normal for abs to become shot during pregnancy. When they don’t regain strength or close the gap, that’s when they become an issue postpartum.

This was me a few weeks ago. It’s only getting worse, too. 😪
@Meagan-t baby moving is definitely my favorite part of it though. I'll take the minimized movement on my part for the maximising of movement on hers/his, lol.
@jenferlee82 and @galentine now that you mention it I totally had a couple "overturned turtle" moments on the couch last week so maybe it wasn't as sudden as I thought. @emily1052 the kitchen is getting there. I'll definitely try to share pictures in the end (which will probably be another weekend away at least) but I'm realizing I forgot to take before pics. You'll all just have to imagine hideous as the before.

I'm LOLing at "pooping muscles" @cmbt2. Logically I know which muscles are used to push, but it just seems like having weak abdominal muscles would be a disadvantage. But "pooping muscles" has me 😂

When we get to a PG I’ll share my before and after of our kitchen remodel. We finished about 2weeks ago and couldn’t be happier with the outcome!!

Anecdote- DS1 destroyed my ab muscles and left me with a diastisis. DS2 exasperated the issue and no amount of “proper” exercises fixed it. I had no issue pushing either of them out ☺️
I couldn’t think of the correct term for the muscles so pooping muscles it is lol
Just found out that my insurance company offers a “Healthy Pregnancy-Healthy Babies” wellness program. All you have to do is sign up and complete some questions throughout your pregnancy. If you sign up during the first trimester your reward is a $400 gift card. Second trimester is a $200 gift card. The woman I talked to had to ask some questions which I was fine with until I kind of wasn’t.
Lady: how many pregnancies have you had? Me: 3 Lady: have you ever had a miscarriage? Me: yes, 2 Lady: so you’ve been pregnant 5 times? Me: no, ma’am, I’ve been pregnant 3 times. Two losses and this pregnancy. Lady: so you have no living children? Me: No. what’s the next question?
I was just done. I’m sure that lots of women don’t include losses when talking about pregnancy history but to have to point it out that way just for an insurance wellness program seemed to be a bit much IMO.
@emily1052 I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Hopefully her intention wasn't to upset you and she was simply confused by your initial answer, but that doesn't make it easier to hear.
It still gets me every time people ask if this is my first. I tell them yes (just because I've never been this far along before), but I always say a little prayer to my little pickle that we lost in December just before 8 weeks. 💛
@emily1052, I'm so sorry for the insensitive questions. That sucks when you are blindsided by something like that when you aren't expecting it. Hugs, lady. ❤
