Is there another ultrasound at some point? Or was the 20 week ultrasound it, if everything has been completely normal? I’m so confused.
I just had an OB appointment today and he mentioned that I’d have another scan following my next appointment in 2 weeks to check her size. Everything else has been completely normal for me, so this just seems to be his practice. In fairness, I’m in Canada so this doesn’t go through private insurance.
this was brought up in our Week 3&4 thread but i thought i would ask the question here. (I bolded the question since i started to ramble)
Those of you who didn't do freezer meals--did you do something else that worked well for meals after the LO arrives? We have a small freezer and MH doesn't want a second one. We've done Blue Apron and Home Chef in the past and liked those...so maybe i should sign back up for them? I don't see us having a TON of food brought to us--maybe one or two items from some close friends?
@blackhottamales Honestly I did all the cooking starting about a week after DD was born (once my CS incision wasn't too painful). I just wore her in the carrier and went about my daily routine. I found I didn't really make time to eat much myself so when I cooked we had enough left that we just ate left overs for the next few days. It worked for us. Plus SO is super picky about food and I'm celiac so our food options are limited:/ I actually really liked cooking when DD was a baby. I would narrate what I was doing every day and she normally fell asleep when I was prepping everything:)
We didn’t do a ton of freezer meals. I found that stocking up on essentials for quick and easy meals worked best for us. So I made sure we had stuff for tacos, spaghetti and meatballs. We bought extra ground beef at Costco and I froze it in 1lb increments, it doesn’t take up a ton of space in the freezer. I did cook up extra chicken before baby was born. I shredded it and also separated it into bags. That way I could just grab a bag, defrost and reheat, and just add a side with it. Crockpot meals are also great! Just throw everything in in the morning and it’s ready to go for dinner!
@blackhottamales - This will be baby #3 and I've never done freezer meals. I do quick meals. We tend to do a lot of meals with a protien, veggie and starch (rice or potatoes). If I make pastas, I make bigger portions so we can have a day of left overs. I'll make pasta salad in the summer and use that as a side with meals or as a meal itself throughout the week. Crockpot meals are always good too.
One thing I do to help save some prep time is I'll buy chicken in bulk and cut up the chicken breast into pieces before freezing to make things like Stir-fry, fajitas, etc. I also freeze ground beef in 1lb portions for quick meals.
I didn’t do freezer meals, no one made food for us and we didn’t have takeout and delivery options. We just kept things simple with doing things like roasted or steamed veg + baked fish, chicken, or lamb/beef/pork chops or even just with couscous. Pasta with sautéed veggies and pesto, marinara or olive oil and salt/pepper + Parmesan. Since it was summer I’d often start us off with a caprese salad. None of this took super long and I would just write the week plan out on our whiteboard.
@blackhottamales I mentioned in the G3/4 thread that I have some stuff in my freezer, but honestly since it wasn't something we do on a day to day basis, we wouldn't have used up all the freezer stuff if I had made tons. Bagged salads are nice, fresh-to-oven meals from places like Costco are also good.
+1 we just cooked like normal. Simple meals, plus DH can cook too. That's not going to change at all with #3. Burgers, fries, salads, pasta, crockpot stuff, The occasional take out/pizza delivery.
Another favorite in our house, is frozen pizzas. You can get a 4 pack at Costco for a great price. We get the pepperoni, and cheese. The cheese pizzas are nice, because you can add any additional toppings you want to it. 12 minutes in the oven and dinner is ready! We also like the velveeta skillets. Everything you need comes in one box, just add either ground beef or chicken.
We are a dual career family with school age plus 2 in daycare plus long ass commutes so we are heavily dependent on freezer meals (mostly crock pot ziplocs). We don't have even 20 min to prep dinner between the time we get home and kids melting down. I have a couple close mom-friends in the same boat and we meet up every few months to meal prep together! I truly love our meal prep Sundays.
@blackhottamales I know your H doesn't want another freezer but we ended up finding a slightly dented one for CHEAP and it's in the basement so it works great and no one sees a dent. I keep that stocked with freezer meals.
@Cbeanz i'm hoping i'll win the freezer war at some point...fingers crossed i have a really good supply and end up freezing a lot of milk.
I think the biggest issues is till the no diary or eggs due to MH's allergy so frozen lasagna and pizzas used to be a go to for us that i can't do any more.
I highly recommend freezer meals!! Especially breakfast. That was always the hardest meal for me to make anything for especially breastfeeding and being famished in the morning. Our freezer meals were a life saver with both babies! @blackhottamales my DH was pretty against an extra freezer too but when our regular freezer was completely full with breastmilk he caved. Ours is in our basement (we also considered our garage) and it's so nice to have!
Did any of you get your legs waxed? I’m planning to get mine done next week before my baby shower so I don’t have to shave, but I was also considering getting my vajayjay area done too. I can still shave my legs but I don’t wanna. I’ve read it can be more sensitive during pregnancy so I’m scared to go that high but ingrown hairs are also a real issue for me if I do nothing like I’ve been. I’m afraid lol.
I usually do a few freezer meals, but with my second we were also very blessed by friends and family. My church always does meals for new moms for 2 weeks (I usually request every other night), my MOPS (moms of Preschoolers) group also provided some meals. Then my husband's work gave us two big boxes from Omaha Steaks! My family usually brings us food too. But if I didn't have all that, probably just freezer meals and stocking up really well before baby comes and probably a few nights of takeout lol!
@leylea89 I don't wax my legs but have been getting a Brazilian wax for the last 15+ years. I've continued through pregnancy, if you've never done it before, its going to be a lot more painful now. I've noticed that it is a bit more tender for a few hours after, where before pregnancy it was fine as soon as I left the salon. Also the hair follicles tend to bleed a bit more right now. But I say go for it!
@leylea89@jennm0724 I've NEVER waxed but I'm considering it because it's swimsuit season and I cannot see for **** down there. Last time around I was a tad smaller and could still shave up until pool season was done, but I wanna romp in a swimsuit NOW. But I'm terribly afraid of the pain. Q_Q Convince me pls. There is also a local place offering your first wax free atm, so I'm seriously considering.
@foodislove do it! Best decision, you'll never go back to shaving! You've had a baby already! This pain isn't bad, it does sting but its temporary! Doing a Brazilian only takes 15minutes, even if you just do your bikini area it would be even quicker!
STM's.. laundry soap? What's your preference? I want to start washing all the clothes from the shower.. I was going to use Tide free and clear.. Ive been told don't waste money on Dreft...
@jennm0724 Biokleen Free & Clear has been my favorite the past year. It performs quite well on stains without pretreating. It's eco friendly and cheaper than Seventh Gen.
We used dreft for the first few loads, because we were gifted some. After that we just use whatever soap we use for our clothes, we typically go with what’s on sale. We’ve been lucky that none of our boys have had sensitive skin
@key33@tsa208 no one in our household has sensitive skin (yet) but I was wondering what happens with your husbands’ when they have an allergic reaction to detergent? Is it noticeably related to where their clothing sits on them? I have eczema from time to time, and I don’t want to mistake a rash on the baby if she is sensitive to detergent.
I have no husband but I get Bumpy and itchy skinif the wrong detergent or fabric softener is used (I use bounce dryer sheets in the white box). I also have eczema and the irritation difference is that eczema happens in high chaffing areas like elbows and backs of knees or back of neck whereas my skin under my clothes gets itchy with scents and irritants. The irritants from the soaps can actually make my eczema worse too.
@mamahmh2 - His skin will get red and itchy, and he sometimes had eczema type flare ups too. He hasn’t had any clothing related issues since I switched to All. I’ve tried some of the store brands and he did get itchy from them, so I just stick to the All for detergent. My son has pretty sensitive skin too, if he goes to Grandmas and they wash some thing he has gotten a rash from the regular detergent.
I also started using the Downy Nature Blends Fabric softener about a year ago. We have had no issues since using it. It’s nice to be able to use a fabric softener that has an actual scent to it.
+1 to Tide Free & Clear. I have detergent allergies and DD has super sensitive skin and it has worked well for us. If I wash clothes with a scented detergent DD gets extremely itchy.
We switched from All Free and Clear liquid to Tide free pods, we are now switching to the all FC pods because hubby might have been having a reaction. He’s got some weird stuff going on skin wise right now and it’s the only thing we can think of that changed. Im pretty much allergic to the world. But I have a latex allergy, so, lots of things set me off. But it was weird he seemed to have a reaction.
@hakele all of the sudden I feel super bonded to you. I’m allergic to latex and the world too! Avocado, banana, and kiwi all screw with me because of it, but I’m also allergic to so many more things. If I’ve been exposed it definitely will cause my eczema to worsen too.
@leylea89 it is the absolute worst. I miss bananas so much. but I really like breathing so much more. I’m too scared to try kiwi, but thankfully avocado is still ok. My hands are pretty much always cracked because of it. It is everywhere in the world. God forbid I brush up against a tire or something.
I hadn’t even thought about tires. That really explains why I had breakouts when a I used to bike everywhere 🤦🏽♀️. I tend to always have broken out skin from benign allergic to so much so it’s my norm. But I really do miss having banana in my Cheerios.
