Weekly Bitchfest 5/6/19

Re: Weekly Bitchfest 5/6/19

  • I'm not looking forward to Mother's Day.  We decided to book a fancy tea brunch to appease my mother in law.  I anticipate my entire Mother's Day chasing DD around the restaurant and spending $200 so my MIL feels sophisticated.
  • Loading the player...
  • So pupil services at our district office sent me a series of emails (and CCd my principal, assistant principal, and head of pupil services) basically telling me the way I have been writing my IEPs ALL YEAR is wrong.

I will take responsibility for my fuck up and fix it, but why the fuck did you wait until there are only 2 weeks of school left?!?!?! And of course the emails came when I was taking a personal day to deal with stress/blood pressure and then got hit by the flu and have been throwing up and not sleeping all night.

    Fuck this week.
  • @ketomommy that sounds miserable!!! Hopefully it doesn't go terrible

@indulgentgypsy that is some BS! After they got the first one and it wasn't correct they should have reached out then, not with 2 weeks left. Who waits that long to say its not right!??

@indulgentgypsy I feel you on the end of school year rage. They just released our final exam schedule for the school where I teach, and Fine Arts was completely left off of it. *facepalm*
  • @indulgentgypsy that’s some
crap right there... so many school districts pull this shit. My mom gets this ALL THE TIME! And she’s been teaching for 30 years.

@acw452 Well crud! I’m so sorry! How does it feel? Bruising much, or just swollen/red?
  • My shower was this weekend and it was amazing, despite all my worries about how small it was. Then we got home and DH dropped two not great things on me, and the bigger one is going to cause some serious tension with me, my MIL and BIL. Spent most of yesterday pissed off and crying, and a bunch of little stuff went wrong, too. I was NOT the one you wanted to mess with yesterday, and in the case of those two people, for the foreseeable.

  • @greeneyedgirl12 We just canceled my sprinkle because I decided family drama wasn't worth it.
  • @ketomommy The family drama is unrelated to my shower, it just kinda sucked to have an awesome weekend/shower and then have shit dropped on me going into the week. I actually wish the drama was shower-related, it would make it shorter term than what it is...

  • I'm exhausted. I want to go home from work early, but I stupidly scheduled the appt for my RH- shot at the very end of my day, and Dr is significantly closer to work than home.

This week I am STARVING. I just want all the foods. Can someone go get me an entire package of Oreos? Or maybe two? Or the cheesecake from @greeneyedgirl12 's ticker?
  • @hakele i saw the cheesecake in the ticker and instantly wanted it LOL!! damnit! I have a pack of GOT oreos unopened in my pantry.. they may not last ..

@jennm0724 SEND THEM TO ME!!!! Off to go raid my pantry.

Edited to add: We have cheesy popcorn, Cocoa Kind Bars, and some dark chocolate.
  • I hate how puffy, sweaty, uncomfortable I am already. 10 more weeks and I'm already feeling full bitch mode come on.
  • My mom used to make these mini cheesecake bite things with Nilla waffers or Oreo cookies as the crust. I never got her recipe for those before she passed (and she hadn't made them in 25 years or more) I may have to find a recipe to try and make it.
  • @hakele I just stopped at the store at got milk to consume said Oreos LOL!

I just got home from work, I go out in the backyard with the dog and notice that things have been moved around... I was like WTF am I losing my mind. I look over to see that sand has been poured in our pavers.. now let me back up to two days ago when we asked the contractor why sand wasn't poured in the pavers. We were told we'd have to pay for his guy to come back out to do this, my husband was like WTF that should have been part of the job. The contractor under bid the hours and now wants us to pay to have them come out and finish. We said no thanks, we'll do it ourselves..he said ok no problem.. jump to today again and the guy came over and did it while I was at work... no one asked us if he could come and do it. I am going to refuse to pay for this if they try to tell us we need to pay. We told you no, and you did it anyways. Also not really happy someone came into our yard when we weren't home. My dog has a door he can go in and out of, so he must have been out there with the workers. He doesn't wear a collar in the house so if they guy didn't close the gate properly he could have totally went on a field trip and I would have never known... so mad. don't fuck with my house or my dog.

    @jenniferjoy37
thanks! It’s mostly swollen with some bruising. It’s a bit better today. The challenge was typing without that finger at work!
  • @strickland8052 that all sounds JUST like my parents vs how DH and I shop/eat/live. I would be frustrated too! How long are they staying with you all?
  • @mamanbebe - Maybe it is a generational thing? haha. They have been living with us since August, and it is just now reaching a breaking point. Their house is no where near complete, so I'm guessing it will be at least until August before they move out. (They bought an old home that needed completely re-doing. Per bank loans, the contractor has a year to finish everything and he is taking his sweet time.)
  • @strickland8052 I took a "it's my house, my rules" approach with my MIL when she felt the need to comment or undermine everything I do.  She huffed and puffed a bit, but sometimes you have to for your own sanity.

  • @strickland8052 As long as the towels are cleaned in hot water with the appropriate amount of detergent, you should be good to go. Bleach will take care of any stains. I'd only be grossed out if the towels weren't being set aside for washing after being used on the floor.

My MIL still uses sponges... I won't touch them.
  • @strickland8052 I dont see anything gross about the towels! And the foil balls cracked me up! I need things in clear containers or I don't know what we have either. I hate wasting things, my husband is the king of waste. Drives me insane!
  • @strickland8052 FX that the next few months go by quickly and that having them around to help with your DD when LO arrives makes up for all the annoyances :) It will feel like a real vacation when you finally have your house back!
  • Next man who says they “know what I’m dealing with” or “know what I’m feeling/it feels like” to have to deal with tough situations combined with pregnancy hormones/anger trigger/discomfort/pain/etc. is getting decked.

  • @greeneyedgirl12 Right?!?!?!?!?! MF you have NO idea! Shut your damn mouth :rage:
  • @strickland8052 ok honestly, your way is how I WANT to live. I only get paid once a month so weekly shopping doesn't work for us, but other than that...
This. I'm pretty good about using kitchen towels more and more, and definitely don't use foil in the fridge (gag), but the thing I think pisses me off the most is trying to cater to your kid's desires. I mean, I understand if she's not eating and you have it on hand, but not going out to get something else when you already have lovely fresh produce in the house.

I take a mealtime insulin to manage my GD and have been on it for weeks. Still not cutting it even after increasing many times.. so they want to start me on a nighttime that will last 24 hours (ontop of what I take already) ... Simple enough, right? No not in my insurances eyes. They are denying the insulin and my Endo is even telling them it's the one I absolutely have to take. I pay a hefty amount for my insurance and copays so it's not like I would be getting this shit for free. I hate insurance companies.
  • @cb123391 that is so terrible :( I’m sorry you’re having to deal with that. I’ve been appalled at how bad my insurance has been glucose meter supplies. They’ve frozen my prescription before trying to insist that I either mail order the test strips that I was out of or drive out of my way to find a cvs instead of my usual pharmacy. They never actually sent me notice but my pharmacist told my husband when he tried to pick up, so I had to call and get the runaround just to tell them not to do the crappy thing that I never gave them permission to do in the first place.
  • @strickland8052 I’ve never been a big kitchen towel person, DH is. I’ve always grown up with paper towels. DH scolds
me too, but I think it’s just the way I grew up.

I agree on the “your house, your rules” and I wish your mom would respect that. Keep doing what you’re doing. It won’t last forever, even though it seems like it now.

Here are my thoughts on it.
    1. The towels, totally fine. As long as they get washed and your washing machine is doing the job, who cares. The only place I really draw the line at is wiping up something like raw meat juices. That is a paper towel with a Clorox Wipe chaser for me! Otherwise, totally fine.
    2. The produce situation sounds AMAZING! We do about the same. Start off the week with a bunch of stuff prepped and ready to eat so that we don't make bad choices. I start with what is probably going to go bad first, so I will eat all the strawberries before I move on to the grapes or cut up the pineapple, etc.
And the catering to your child thing is something I would absolutely put my foot down about. That is a not in my house, not with my child, non-negotiable item for me.
    3. We use clear snapware for all of our stuff because I like how it all stacks up nicely and washes easily. What planet is she on that foil keeps things fresher? I'd really have an issue with the foil, it isn't air-tight and I agree that it is a pain because you can't see into it. I use it very sparingly like to cover a casserole while it bakes. I probably buy 1 roll of foil in an entire year! You wanna know what is gross... my grandmother washes Ziploc bags in order to reuse them!
    4. I can't help but commiserate on this one because my husband moves everything around on me in the pantry and then he spends half his time complaining that he can't find XYZ. And then I go into the pantry and find it in seconds. I always start with, "Are you sure you can't find it? Because if I come in there and find it in under 10 seconds, you're going to be in trouble!"

Also, the sink water thing is gross and my Nana does that and it makes me crazy.
Deep breaths. It will be done soon before you know it, but I know the preggie hormones make patience non-existent.

    Dear hubby,
Telling me to "calm down and quit being crazy." When I am complaining about bad customer service is not helpful for me and not healthy for you.  >:)
We've had some really bad customer service issues the last week. Including one incident where I banged my plate on a table because after trying to politely get my waiter's attention at a restaurant for being served cold food, for over 20 minutes, I tried to see if being obnoxious would get me anywhere. (Spoiler, it still didn't get his attention, and we are NEVER going back to Rock Bottom Brewery, and we probably should have just walked out.)

Also... my Yelp/Open Table reviews are EPIC right now. Hahaha. (And I'm leaving nice reviews for good experiences, too!)
  • @mamanbebe that is ridiculous! As if we need any more stress! my insurance company is still refusing coverage so my Endo is trying to gather up as many samples as they can from other local places too because I need it and they said the kind the insurance wants to cover won't work for me since I'm pregnant. I hope your insurance company doesn't give you any more issues and let's you choose where to fill your prescriptions.

    @cb123391
You may have tried this, but have you checked online for coupons or discount programs? A lot of the long acting insulin types have these from the manufacturers and it can make it affordable even without the insurance covering it.
  • @strickland8052
Parents in the kitchen is a lost cause! My parents use a sopping wet regular size dish towel to both wash dishes and wipe counters...and don’t wring it out properly, if at all. Mold. Need I say more. I buy a new little sponge that dries quickly for every visit I am there.
They also have multiple containers of the same thing open at once, and organize nothing in the fridge.
So, if she’s cooking for you, you can’t do much to regulate those habits. Maybe hide the aluminum foil and stand your ground there. The mystery packages are insane! 😆
I wouldn’t fight her on the towels, though, even if you’re right. If she’s cooking, that’s something she needs for peace of mind. She’d be doing that at her place, too. Don’t feel guilty about her choices in your home.
It’s totally a pick your battles adventure!
I’d pick the practical problems over the philosophical ones.
For your sanity, let a couple things go completely...it’s temporary...and she’s helping the ways she knows how to...better to focus on that.
  • @strickland8052 as far as food goes, maybe just stop buying as much food and let your mom have control of what’s in the kitchen. Compromise with your mom that you will do the dishes if she cooks.

With the towels thing, that’s probably something I’d grin and bear. If they buy the paper towels, let them use them. Or get a mop so there’s an alternative to paper towels on the floor.

With the toddler tastes, she’s grandma- she’s gonna after. I once went to Louisiana and my great aunt Jessie Mae went to the store just for me and got chicken breasts to make me my own chicken strips because my mom told her I’m not a big fan of chicken on the bone. I was 14 at the time and I’ve gotten over it since but grands and greats love spoiling the kids and as long as it isn’t outrageous sugary crap, I’d let it go for now.

  • I just want to sleep! This rolling over/tossing and turning every 20-30 mins is getting old.
