Re: Weekly Randoms (April 29)

  • @sourlemon I have been telling DH this since DS#1 was born (3 years ago) but his parents don't have a will, so he thinks we're fine. I finally convinced him to make one, but now every time I try to schedule with the lawyer, he says I'm too busy this month. I know he is over worked but it is getting frustrating.
We did decide that we would make my ILs legal guardians if, G-d forbid, it becomes necessary. We were debating telling my parents, DH kept saying hopefully they will never need to know, so why tell them. I said if they do find out, there are going to be dealing with a lot already, so why make this one more thing they need to find out. Anyway this weekend I finally broke down and told them. I said "We're working on our will, and planning on making my ILs legal guardians if necessary, because they are local so the kids won't have to change schools." and my mom immediately said "and they're younger." DH's parents are 10 years younger than mine, and that did play into our decision making, but I wasn't planning on telling my parent that. My mom is funny sometimes.
I do want to talk to the lawyer about giving my parents and ILs joint control of the assets, to ensure that my parents will stay involved in their lives. I trust my ILs but still...

  • @mrosek91 we chose my mom for the same reason. She's 16 years younger than MIL and lives here while MIL is across the country. Then its my sister, who is 16 years older than me but lives one state over. The lawyer asked us to think of someone as a third who is younger than we are, but we have no one. Maybe in a few years when we do an update, but our will the last few years and now the trust/will only has the two. We've never told MIL the plan. Dont really intend to either.
We also didnt list her as a financial control person. My reasoning is that I dont agree with how she controlled/handled money when DH was growing up (or how she handles it now) and my mom and I are basically twins with how we think. But I didnt tell DH that. I told him it didnt make sense just because she's so much older that itll probably be irrelevant if it ever happens and itll just be easier to have it with the people who will have the kids. I trust my mom and my sister to do it how we'd want it done. MIL would try to do it her way.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • @AKuzReve I know exactly which one your talking about! Hope that’s not creepy...where do you Shop for yours? The two I picked out on Motherhood are very similar to yours.
  • @heml - That. List. Is. Epic.

@mrosek91 - I swear our husbands are the same people. Mine works in Benefits and KNOWS exactly how these things go down without wills, and yet, I can't get him to sit down (even for a 20 min intra-day period - we work at the same company) and walk through them. UGH. It's happening this week, though. I'm done.

@mkrel - That is SUPER cute! Maybe I'll get some for pajamas/housedresses since the XL *only* goes up to a 42" chest and I don't need to bust a seam in public :| I do need more rouched dresses, I think they're super complimentary during pregnancy.

  • @sourlemon Great reminder for me to fill out the initial consultation paperwork our wills attorney sent over. We’re scheduled to go in for an appt in a couple of weeks
  • Definitely just dropped one in the ole amazon cart and I’m about to check out! Thanks!
  • @mkrel - I've put 3 in mine! Also looking for an epilator for my bikini line and possibly my legs (if DD1's gonna ALWAYS be in the bathroom/bath/shower with me, she might as well put in work, right? LOL) and trying to lump it in with some Lightning Deals so I don't blow my May budget before it's even started.

  • @emqbee, haha not at all! Mine are all regular dresses (mostly F21) with a few from H&M maternity. They stretch so easily fit my pregnant body so far but I like that I’ll be able to wear it afterwards since I love them.

    *Live, Love, Laugh, Learn*

  • @AKuzReve I’m hoping to find some I can still wear afterwards but I haven’t found any yet that’ll work. Unless the one I just bought will! I hate buying clothes that I know I’ll only wear for a few more months before I can’t/dont want to anymore. Fingers crossed!
  • @MamaK225 I love that Kim K gif! It always makes me LOL. And, I think you're right that middle of the week seems to be prime one-off time. I often wonder if no one responding at all would actually be more effective...
  • Pregnancy insomnia is the worst. I wake up every day from like 4:30-6/7 AM just completely wide awake. I don’t go to bed till like 12-1 AM.

  • I'm sorry I don't remember who, but I do remember that someone on this board mentioned that their husband was going to be staying home with their LO.
I was just listening to a parenting podcast this morning, and their guest was a SAHD who used to be President of the National At-Home Dad Network, and it sounds like a great resource. He highly recommends their annual con.
  • @mrosek91 My husband is a SAHD (although he’s now teaching part time in the evenings), I’ll let him know about this network, thanks!

  • @mamak225, I usually fall back to sleep at 7 and wake up at 8:30. It sucks because unless I nap, I have night class 6:30-10 so I have to be awake and active in it, which is challenging on such poor and little sleep.

  • Ovia and the Bump say I entered my 3rd trimester today at 27 weeks.  Dr. Google however says I am in my 2nd trimester until I turn 28 weeks.   WHO DO I BELIEVE?!   I think I'll stay in 2nd trimester for a little while longer :)

  • I just left my 24 week routine OB appt. I saw a different OB because mine is on vacation and this one was fantastic as well. She thoroughly went over a/s results, explained that LO is big but perfectly proportional. They will do another u/s at 32 and 36 weeks as well to track growth. Also my weight gain is on the low side so not a cause of baby's size (I had PLENTY of weight to spare though).

This office just gave me a prescription for a breast pump already without me even asking, which is fantastic. One less thing to worry about. They also gave me the yucky orange drink with instructions to drink before my next visit. They will do a finger prick in the office with results before I leave. That is so efficient and way better than going to a lab.

  • @thirdtimesacharm2019 DD is a bit delayed in speech.  She's been in early intervention since about 11 months old (she was slow to crawl/walk too).  She's 21 months now and we still only have a handful of words.  I worry about it a lot, especially given how competitive the private schools (starting at K) are here.  But every daycare person and babysitter tells us what a sweet kid she is, and that makes me prouder than anything.
  • @Twinkiedoll Speech and motor skills can usually be learned even if they're behind.... but you can't unlearn the kindness and sweetness your little one has :) I'd be proud too!
  • I agree with all of you about the "softer" skills being more important < 4 than some of the others that are assessed. DD1 is very vocal about refusing to potty train (I'm pretty sure the coming baby has a bit to do with it). She is also very stubborn and manipulative, so it's difficult to get her to listen or follow directions as well as I would like (that being said, I would be shocked if she doesn't end up with an ADHD diagnosis like me); however, she is incredibly verbal, perceptive, and retains/recites nearly every piece of knowledge presented to her. While she may attempt to delegate EVERYTHING out that you ask her to do (future management, amirite!?), she *never* asks or responds without a "please," "thank you," or some similar manner. Everyone is on their own timeline and I think we put too much pressure on the very young too often and unnecessarily.

  • @thirdtimesacharm2019 I love that!! Thank you for sharing
  • @MamaK225 she sounds so much like my 6 year old DD who has ADHD. She is so tough to raise but those skills will serve her well in the long run. I've always said I can't control the fact that she is busy ,stubborn and struggles to follow directions but I can teach her manners and how to be kind.

  • @Twinkiedoll DD had literally 6 words before she turned 2. Then somewhere around 26 months she had a HUGE language boom. She still doesn't speak incredibly clearly, but I can usually figure out what she is trying to say. Some kids just take their sweet sweet time.
  • I found a couple of decent dresses at H&M
  • Hey that's awesome! Thank you, @mrosek91 and @BigBadWolf12 !! (About the stay at home dad resource -- sorry, didn't see this until now!)
  • My back has been dying for weeks now, despite my trips to the chiropractor. This afternoon I finally thought about it, and got out my birth ball. OMG amazing for my sore hips. I may never get off it again, sorry DH!
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
