  • @bakerstreetboys Next Wednesday cannot come soon enough.

  • @bakerstreetboys I’m so happy your appointment went well!
  • @klmcguire I know how you feel!  I wish I could just snap my fingers and get to June!
@k_mama91 Thank you :)  One step at a time!
  • First appointment (& an ultrasound!) on 4/29, I'll be a little over six weeks then 😁
  • Random Question: is everyone "shopping around" for a doctor to stick with through the pregnancy+delivery, or are you just going with whoever you see for your normal OBGYN? I recently moved so I am so new to everything and everyone here, and the receptionist at the office made me feel stupid and acted like it was so WRONG that I had 2 appointments scheduled for my first OB appt for baby. She basically told me to cancel one. I said I thought people sort of shopped around? Anyways, what is everyone else doing especially if you have recently moved or don't already know your doctor very well? thanks in advance. :-)

I don't think there is anything wrong with shopping around. You want to be comfortable with your doctor. I don't like the way the receptionist made you feel, that's not cool. Even if for billing purposes they can't do two first appointments, they can schedule you a consultation with multiple doctors.

I'm currently seeing a specialist for endo and PCOS but they don't deliver babies.

My "regular" OBGYN left the practice abruptly and I don't like any of the other doctors there. So I will be doing a little shopping of my own. I'm hoping my specialist has a good recommendation. I will only be looking at doctors who can deliver at the hospital I like. It has the best neonatal center in my state so other hospitals don't compare.
  • @mrszoobear thank you, yeah I cried after she talked over me and was so annoying 😂 . But do you think it’s normal for us to just have some meet & greets with a couple doctors? I seriously am so new and barely have any pregnant friends or fam so I have no clue what I’m doing!!! Thanks so much for your help. I feel like they just don’t have time to do that but who knows?!
  • @ktmaesim This is my very first pregnancy ever so I'm not sure how they react to pregnancies specifically. But I do know when I was having painful periods and trying to find out the cause I did a lot of office consultations with OBGYN's. Those felt a lot like meet and greets.

It took years before a doctor took my pain seriously and did a surgery to find out about the endometriosis. But when I did it felt right and I was very comfortable with my dr. Unfortunately he retired years ago.

I would just call around to local doctors and say you are looking for a new OBGYN and ask if they do a meet and greet. I feel like when you find the right doctor everything will feel right.
  • @mrszoobear thanks so much, I’m just a bit overwhelmed! I feel like it’s too early to tell any friends and fam so I have no other resources to help me unless it’s on here, until my first appt. thanks so much !
  • @ktmaesim I went through 4 different OBs in my last pregnancy.  I don’t think there is any problem with “shopping around.”  You want to feel comfortable and well taken care of during your pregnancy.

  • @ktmaesim I didn’t really shop around, but I changed Obgyns during the first trimester with my first pregnancy.  I wouldn’t necessarily let one encounter with one receptionist make my mind up about an office, but I would still consider elsewhere, if no one you know can recommend someone.  I have always heard that you should speak with labor and delivery nurses where you plan to deliver and see who they recommend.
  • @SpongeWorthy omg 4!!!!! That sounds stressful, I hope you ended with a good one. Did you have a lot of work to do each time you changed or was it fairly easy?
  • @holly321 yes I think I was being sensitive because now I’m looking back like SUCK IT UP GIRL, but that’s a great idea about asking the delivery nurses !!! Thanks!
  • @ktmaesim It was stressful lol.  My first OB was too lax about testing me for things and I turned out to have an under active thyroid that wasn’t diagnosed until midway through the pregnancy.  So I switched to a different OB within the same hospital system.  Then, we found serious issues at my anatomy scan, so I was referred to an MFM.  I wasn’t happy with that MFM team, so I switched to a different hospital system and new MFM.  Switching between OBs in the same network was easy.  Switching between hospital systems was more difficult, and I had to redo a lot of testing.  But I’m so glad I went with the team I felt the most comfortable with.  The same MFM I saw for regular appointments also did my C-section and did a great job.

  • My first appointment is may 2nd and by my last period i should be 8 weeks tomorrow after first appointment they said they will schedule my ultrasound soo anxious i want an ultrasound now lol! 😬
  • As for choosing an OBGYN, I had someone I really liked who helped me with my fibroids, but he doesn't deliver babies, so I had to find someone else.  I decided which hospital I wanted to deliver at and studied up on reviews for doctors affiliated with that hospital. I also used the Next Door website to ask neighbors for recommendations.  I'm not too thrilled that my practice doesn't assign one doctor but encourages patients to meet with multiple doctors at the practice throughout the pregnancy since you can't be sure who will be working the day you deliver.  I feel like I'd prefer to have one doctor who can get to know me, but I guess that's not how a lot of the practices around here work.
  • I am feeling SO RELIEVED. Finally got some legit rec's from neighbors and friends of friends (who all pretty much recommended the same group of doc's) and got a new appt even earlier than expected! For next Thursday! Feeling very optimistic now and not as nervous.  @blueskychicago12 thanks for the Nextdoor idea, def asked them as well. The office did say they don't do UltraS on first appt tho....kinda bummed about that. :-/

I’m so impatient, I just finally heard back from the midwives office and was accepted (yay! I live in an area where they’re in very high demand and it’s hard to get one) but they don’t do a first appointment until 10 weeks!!
Last pregnancy I got a requisition for an ultrasound from my family doctor because I didn’t have a midwife secured yet, so I’m going to try the same path and get an US for about week 7 to at least make sure things are on track, not ectopic and not multiples.
