@knuttyplus2 I’m sorry - that’s so hard (and exhausting). We noticed a different sleep pattern too but attributed it to teeth and extra excitement from all the activities. It would really help if these LO’s could talk.
If only they could talk! Nate is only napping 30 minutes now and won't nap at all at daycare anymore. I'm thinking thanksgiving break is what did it. Maybe it'll go back to normal again.
@knuttyplus2 when they learn to do things like sit up, stand up, walk they tend to want to be awake to practice their new skill. Mixed in with teething its definitely a rough few months.
Thanks for the support! Tonight was rough again...one is deciding it's fun to roll over but doesn't then like it and the other is screaming like a banshee...a few pitiful cries I can walk away from as they go away quickly, but even my monitor is in the solid red sustained zone and there's no way he's going to calm down on his own. Yea...teething and new skills...makes sense, just doesn't make it any easier.
We have had a couple of rough nights of up every 2 hrs. Im assuming another tooth but he is shoving his hands to chew on the back part of his gums. Please tell me he cant get molars yet?! I dont feel or see anything but to be fair everytime i put my finger in his mouth he bites me so its hard to get a good feel.
Nora's been sleeping through the night for a very long time, and in that regard, we're very lucky. She would wake up once or twice a night and kind of just coo to herself, but she'd always put herself back to sleep. We moved into our house in the spring and when winter hit, it became clear there's a HUGE temperature difference between our bedroom (where N still sleeps because renovating her room is taking us FOREVER) and downstairs (we have radiators, one heating zone). We recently switched to a Nest thermostat downstairs and got a "temperature sensor" for the bedroom - at certain hours, we can set the heat to cater to the bedroom instead of downstairs. Since we've installed it, she hasn't been waking herself up in the night at all - I bet she was just waking up because she was freezing! We've been watching, and there can be as much as an EIGHT degree difference from upstairs and downstairs - and we had the downstairs thermostat set to 68 at all times. Jeeze. I feel terrible for the fact that we must've been freezing our girl out!
We did the opposite here last night and turned the house into a sweat lodge. Ive been having the heat on at night. We have an older house with crappy windows so it gets chilly in the house quickly. Last night I turned it on and I thought I set it at 72 but actually set it at 75. Our best room for A/C is LOs room and his monitor said the temp was 77! I woke up sweating and LO was all sweaty too. I felt so bad!
What time do you put your LO’s down for the night? we have last bottle between 8:30 and 9:30 and she goes to bed after (sometimes she plays for a while in her crib) then I have to wake her up around 6am for the day. She’d probably sleep until 7 or so if I could let her but she has to take her medicine with food. The routine works - I’m just thinking maybe she should go to sleep earlier - on the other hand I don’t want her to wake up earlier then 6 if I can help it.
I would keep the same if it's working! She'll probably wake earlier if you go go bed earlier. Nate goes down at 5 and wakes at 4:30 or 5. Before time change he went down at 6 and got up at 5 or 6.
We have a weird schedule, but last feed at 8pm and in bed by 9pm. Then they sleep til 8 ish. Husband stays home so this schedule allows me to see/spend time with them when I get home at 6:30 pm. Of course, lately they sleep an hour and then wake up crying their heads off the last few weeks....hoping this too shall pass...
Our usual bedtime routine is bottle, bit of play, some quiet snuggle time, and down between 7:30p-8:30. She’d usually wake up for a snack bottle when DH and I go to bed (around 11) and again around 2 and always up for the day about 7am. That all might change now though- we moved her into big sister’s room today. We explained to DD1 that she’s going to have to be quiet and keep the light off. She kept knocking on the door (we have a doorknob safety lock on her door) saying DD2 wasn’t asleep. They both fell asleep about 9:30 tonight so we’ll see what the morning holds.
Thanks everyone! You’ve made me feel better. @knuttyplus2 I hope they start sleeping through the night for you soon. @maelily15 good luck with the morning and with the transition.
Vinny goes to bed around 8:30 each night. Normally she wakes once still, around 3 or 4 in the morning, then sleeps until 7ish. She takes two naps each day one short and one long. The short one might be 45 min to an hour, the long one could be 1.5-2 hours. If she is interrupted and doesn't get a long nap she might take a third short nap.
@fatstagnation it is interesting. I bet part of it is that the Babies have to fit into our routines so we find what works for the family and that varies between us all.
Anyone else having issues with lo crawling around in their sleep? Especially if you cosleep ? Declan crawls around in his sleep, head butts me, pulls my hair, and ends up facing the sideways or upside down.
@megpeg yes!! We dont cosleep anymore but LO sleeps with his butt in the air and pushes himself with his legs (face sliding across the mattress lol). He keeps waking himself up hitting his head on the side of the crib!
@sgrn18 and @megpeg that is how Vinny sleeps too, normally. But I guess we've hit a 9mo sleep regression. She woke up 4 times last night! I guess she's hungry but she's also regressed to taking no more than 4 oz per feeding. ugh.
@fatstagnation yeah i think we may finally be coming out the other end of that sleep regression. LO was waking up like 4 to 5 times a night and it was soooo draining. I slept during his naps and it still didnt help me feel human.
So...How/when do we transition from sleep sacks to blankets? Putting on the sack is part of her ritual these days and she still seems really comfortable in them. Just wondering what you all have done.
@fatstagnation Because of nostalgia for her baby days and general illogical worry, I'll probably just keep Nora in sleep sacks either until she totally outgrows them, requests a blanket, or moves out of her crib.
@fatstagnation I worry too much to give him one. But we also keep the house warm and he sleeps really hot so I probably won't give him one until he can talk and say he wants one.
I love sleep sacks knowing they stay on and I don't have to worry about them getting cold if they wiggle around at night. I did start to add a thin small blanket...2' x 2' for added warmth. I'll probably use sacks until they outgrow them.
Declan has been sleeping with a blanket in his crib for about a month but has been napping with one for a while. It’s a breathable one at naptime because he prefers to have it over his face to block out light. He loves them. I think they are ok as soon as they can safely get out of them themselves.
For the past few nights Maeve screams and cries at bedtime which is unusual for her - tonight I laid on the floor by her crib and she held my hand as it seems she just doesn’t want to be alone. Anyone else’s LO not wanting to sleep? Naps are also hit and miss - I’m thinking it has to do with she finally figured out how to crawl and wants to walk but doesn’t have her balance yet.
@shoretobe Nora had an uncharacteristic night like that too recently, where she cried and rioted at bedtime until I eventually just rocked her to sleep. That was a one-night deal for us (so far), but she's been more resistant to naps too, even when she is very obviously tired. She's going through a bit of a rebellious phase, so I wonder if the nap is just something else for her to rebel against!
@ashtuesday it’s kind of funny to read that she’s rebelling against naps. I think “you’re too little to rebel” but they sure have become their own people. Overnight it seems like Maeve is a little kid and not a baby. She’s rebelling against her bottles. @megpeg I was thinking her teeth might be bothering her. She has two molar teeth coming in - I can see the whites of the teeth so I think the hard part is over for her?
Vinny had some rough nights this week too! Fighting bedtime and sometimes waking up crying. One night we resorted to bringing her to bed with us and then she slept. I was thinking teeth, too, but none have erupted yet.
@shoretobe I just discovered both top molars have come through so I am sure that has been the cause of our not sleeping. He has the weirdest teeth. He has 3 on the bottom with the fourth not looking like it’s happening any time soon, the front 4 on top, and then the 2 molars.
We have some weird teeth too. LO has freaking 12 teeth already. The front 4 on top and bottom and 4 molars (2 on top and 2 on bottom) but the teeth between the top 4 and the molars don't look like they are anywhere close. lol

The variation among our LOs is interesting.
Eta i didnt really make anything special out of it, just covered him up lol
