Weekly Randoms 3/18

I had a busy weekend - how about you guys?   We took DD to a spring carnival at a local ski resort and she got to do an easter egg hunt and we let her try skiing for the second time.  She's in love with it haha.  Then yesterday we went to a garden show and there were lots of kids activities for her to do - so I didn't get to see much of the garden stuff that I wanted to but that's ok.

@law_and_little1 My OB told me as long as you aren't drinking espresso all day long, not to worry about it.  The studies that link to adverse affects are with very large amounts of caffeine like 6-7 cups of coffee a day. I have 1-2 cups and did with my daughter as well.
  • @law_and_little1 Another here to say that 1-2 cups of coffee is fine.  I had the will power (and JOB) that allowed me to give up caffeine with DD1, but it's just not possible in this season of my life.  DD2 is just fine and so far every U/S with DS has shown he is growing ahead of schedule.

  • @law_and_little1 +1 to drinking one cup of coffee a day, and having healthy babies. Did it through both my previous pregnancies.
  • I drink 2 cups in the morning and occasionally one or a Coke in the afternoon if I have a headache. Same for my other 2 pregnancies.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • I've mostly given up my caffiene...but that's because 1) I had severe gastro before getting pregnant (and then a repeat 3 weeks later when I was pregnant). So I wasn't eating or drinking much of anything. So I got over the withdrawal. So I figured I would try to just not start again. And then 2) I've been off work, so I can't really justify it.
But I've had 2 cups of coffee so far. And 3 horrible-for-me-way-over-priced-but-delicious-frappawappadingdongs from Starbucks. Which is mostly cream and sugar and whipped cream...but enough of the caffiene jolt to make me suuuuuper happy.
I'm told a cup a day is fine for baby, but I'm already peeing so much that I figured I should suffer and be grumpy without it 😂 but man I miss it ....

This exchange of Amazon community customers cracked me up with their answers when someone asked if the Blooming Bath Lotus comes with the baby.
People think we become mothers when we give birth but the truth is we become mothers the moment we start calling our babies to us in our thoughts, dreams and prayers. Some paths are short and some are so long that you can easily forget where you were headed.

  • I’ve had such an adversion to chicken this pregnancy. I gag and have to leave the room if I smell it. It’s horrible. I’m 17weeks tomorrow. Will this pass??
  • @mrosek91 my DS turns 3 Wednesday and we had a big day party on Saturday... it was so much work. I thought I was doing good by saying we’re only doing parties every other year but your idea of no parties until they ask is even better!

anyone have experience with le tote? Ads keep coming up on my Facebook and I’m intrigued but not sure it would be worth the $$
  • It was a heck of a weekend with lots of chores around the house needing to be done and DD not wanting to let me out of her sight. Friday, Hubby  got a wild hare to start spring cleaning our Jeep which meant a change of tops and emptying out all the trash (if this is how messy it got with one kid i can hardly imagine two). With all the rain we’ve had i wasn’t careful and took a little spill in a hidden mud slick. I caught myself but nearly doing the splits in the mud was a great way to end the day. Then a few of our chickens got loose so we had to chase them.  Saturday was more low key with DD and I spending most of the day at the playground enjoying the sun then back home for more chores. Sunday was a bit frightening after waking up to dark brown spotting. A call to my nurses line had me in bed rest for the remainder of the day with Hubby and my Mother showing up to both keep me in bed and wrangle the three year old.  But a funny gut feeling around 10pm had me determined to go outside and check on my horses so out DH and I go and sure enough my daughters mini pony found some way to injure herself in her pen and now DH has to tend to her as well because he doesn’t want me around the horses while pregnant 😒. Thankfully the spotting has gone away so hopefully i’ll be back running full steam again, hubs isn’t much of a horseman 😂.
  • @mia8263 It might, it might not, unfortunately.  I've never been able to eat chicken while pregnant and this is my third pregnancy.

  • @MamaK225 I feel you on the crazy work situation. I actually caught myself looking forward to maternity leave the other day, then I remembered how that is not a break and I laughed and laughed!
  • @thirdtimesacharm2019 - YES! Though I think after your first, it does get "easier" since you have a little more experience. I had no clue with DD1 and it was pretty stressful, plus we moved when she was 5 weeks old :|  DD1 will definitely be in daycare (DH will be taking her), so it should be a *little* bit easier than my first go-round. But ... yeah ... it'll be interesting seeing how it goes with that hard *break* from work. #20weeks3daysandcounting

  • @MamaK225 When I was in high school my mom quit her job because it was becoming too much work/too stressful. The broke her job into smaller pieces, and hired 3(!) people to replace her. After a few months, they came back and told her that she could name any requirements she wanted if she would come back. It does happen.

@mia8263 I think aversions to chicken & meat in general are pretty common. Some aversions stick around the entire pregnancy and others go away randomly.

@MamaK225 I'm glad you're in a good place with your weight. It can be so hard to manage expectations of yourself, your practitioner, and other people --- meanwhile sometimes your body is like "fuck what you're doing I do what I want!"

Sigh. It's Tuesday and it already feels like it's been a long week --- yikes!
  • @mrosek91 - You just gave me THE BEST daydreaming fantasy to have for the next 4.5 months. Bless you. And - yeah - that's kind of my predicament. They've *never* had the analytical capability in this area and the Boss is new to the company. So it's the Perfect Storm.

Every whim is treated like an emergency and thanks are rarely given and "butt-in-seat" is demanded, though - personally - I think it's ridiculous. My phone (that they DON'T pay for) is always on me and I always bring my PC home (and respond at night - I worked until 8:30 last night). The person before me couldn't even open a balance sheet in our general ledger. I think once they have several weeks of silence, that they'll realize exactly how much they were demanding and either become thankful ... or get some level of perspective. Or I'll be walking. I'm still weighing my options.

Basically, it all comes down to some negative feedback I was given last week that absolutely shocked me and it has just gotten to my core. I welcome feedback and have welcome constructive criticism. I've had 4 major promotions in 6 years in a very large company; I'm no slacker and I'm beyond productive and capable ... it's like she wants robotics (who doesn't!?), but ... not willing to pay for or give me the resources to do anything remotely near that. Just getting burned out and frustrated ... and it's taking joy out of my life where there is currently very little (because we're all in that time of life where it's just kind of chaos and an outward-focus on our young, growing families).

  • @ElcaB - I felt like that (long week already) yesterday at 8:30a :( And thanks, it's really through any concerted effort. I do monitor what I eat a little more closely and ensure enough water intake, but it's mostly the "crap" calories that go out the window (see: whiskey nightcaps) that give me the headwind. Again, not even a remotely small woman, so I just keep an eye on it. My goal is to stay below 205 (if it remains healthy to do so, I won't diet or starve myself, obvs), which is generous, given my 5'7" frame; I delivered DD1 at 200 - but had lost 35 lbs by the time I was discharged.

  • We have been busting our butts at home cleaning up the property. Lots of burning brush, tree cutting, grass cutting.  I moved a bunch of fence panels to rearrange the horses again and my sciatic was mad the next day but today seems better.  We have had so much rain lately but had 5 days of PERFECT 60 degree warm sunny weather and definitely took advantage of it.
  • I would just like to say... I am HORRIBLE at making phone calls. I get super stressed.
Several years ago I finished a college course for my paramedic training.
When it came to tax time after graduating, I was unable to access the online portal to print the tax info to claim on my taxes.
I called the college, they told me I had to come in person. I drove all the way there, paid for parking, and after a 3 hour wait was told they couldn't help or reinstate my access because I was no longer a student.
Anyway...I didn't know what to do, and couldn't really file taxes without the info. So it's been stressing me out.
    For years

Finally today, I found someone to help. So we will FINALLY be able to get the taxes done, and it can stop hanging over my head, making me anxious and physically sick.

    Yay!
  • Longest. Week. Ever. Omg. I am exhausted and tired and so over everything. We did buy the baby's bedding this weekend and that's always a super excited moment in my pregnancies. The start of actually prepping for a little person, and I have my level 2 scan next Monday which I cannot wait for. Otherwise, same same same.

I can't tag mia, but my chicken aversion is STRONG and I have never really recovered even when I am not pregnant. I can do things like tacos, fried chicken from cane's, or rotisserie chicken salads sometimes. But I still cannot, seven years later, eat chicken breast or chicken thighs as a meal. That's the only aversion that has stayed with me forever.
  • At the doctor with DD1. Definitely has croup and they are checking for the flu. We can't catch a break!

  • @sourlemon so sorry DD1 has croup. DD2 had that earlier this year... ugg.

has anyone seen the news about the new PPD drug?  I think it sounds super interesting for our mommas that struggle post partum

  • @wabash15 yes! i was reading about it last night. It is really exciting to know that there is an approved drug specifically for PPD. I think there is still some work to be done. As I understand it, it is a 60 hour IV infusion and the cost is around $20K. I like the direction it is going and I'm so glad that there are people out there doing this research. Hopefully they can develop and get FDA approval for a more convenient form of delivery.

@purplg8r we did a buy buy baby registry this weekend too.

@law_and_little1 I tried to completely give up caffeine and did so for a little while, early on i completely lost the taste for it. Now I have an afternoon cup and it helps with my energy level and, if I have one, my headache.

@sourlemon sorry to hear work has been so inconsistent. I hate that, I get being over it though. These last few days have been crazy for me and then today, not much going on.

  • @Avrilmai Without insurance, the PPD drug costs $34K!  And that's just for the drug itself.  I'm sure there is additional cost the hospital will charge for the IV administration.  I mean, hospitals these days charge you for the privilege of holding your own baby.
  • And DD1 tested positive for flu A.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • @WinchesterGirl I 100% agree on the only regular posters, only slight concern is how is that actually determined?

I was very active on DDs BMB back in 2012/2013 but chose not to join the FB group when it was started. I kept in touch with many of the moms on IG and eventually became FB friends with several of them. With DS in 2015/2016 I was not on TB at all I don't think.
