  • @mighty_montgomery congratulations on your niece! She looks absolutely precious!!

  • @blueberrymomma I had that happen earlier this week (I'm 35 weeks now) and still very pregnant. It's my third baby and from acecdotal advice I've been told, Braxton hicks get worse each pregnancy. I've also only ever been induced so I definitely understand the, "is this the real deal?!" question when the contractions were happening.
  • @professormama do you practice one in, one out for kid artwork? I’m thinking we might want to do so as DD gets older and starts making more than just scribbles. Like, maybe, a place to hang today’s art, a place for parental favorite, and a place for kid favorite. Even that seems like a lot of paper when I start multiplying by number of kids, but hopefully still manageable.

@blueberrymomma hope you find some relief!

@mighty_montgomery hooray for close cousins, and what a healthy chunk of baby!
  • @lyse01 no, not at this point. My kid gets pretty emotionally attached to his art, and asking him to throw away something he made is just too high of an expectation for him right now. Art from school I tend to deal with by leaving in the car, unless he specifically asks to bring it in. If it gets left in the car, it ends up in a big pile, which I eventually toss and he doesn’t notice. If it comes in, then we typically pick a few things to hang on the fridge. The rest goes in a pile, which I eventually toss. Basically I let him forget about things before I throw them away. Hah. I also let him hang things he is especially proud of on his bedroom wall with painters tape. This system won’t work forever, but he never wants to throw art away, he worked too hard on it. And I get it - I have trouble throwing away things I made too!

I also keep a small selection of art and other keepsakes in a few document boxes from container store. I’m not a scrapbooker, so it works well for me to just date things and throw them in a box to save. When the box is full, I label and store it. It has everything from art, to his baptismal program, to notes from daycare teachers and friends. The first box that filled up is from 2014-2017. We are on our second box now. They’re not super big boxes, and work perfectly for us.
  • My cousin just had an emergency c-section because her pre-e gave her uncontrollably high blood pressure. Baby was only 24 weeks and 15oz. I really, really hope she makes it.

Thoughts and prayers for your cousin and her baby
  • @professormama thanks for your love on my neice. I hope your cousin's baby makes it too for her mom and dad especially! I could not imagine the heartache of having to leave a child at the hospital. NICU seems to habe come a long way in terms of medical interventions so hopefully they can help the little one thrive! ❤
  • @professormama oh man, that is going to be a really long, rough road for your cousin, probably extending past the due date in the NICU and with many many follow up appointments with specialists once out. They’ve been on my mind...many prayers sent their way.

Gift cards for food, coffee, and gas are going to be much appreciated. Also a good water bottle, a comfy blanket to stay warm while kangarooing or pumping, heavy duty hand lotion to counteract all the harsh hand scrubbing, healthyish and energy packed snacks (dried fruit, granola, lactation cookies, etc), and an understanding that your cousin may just not reply.

There are photographers that go into NICUs to document these tiny lives, eg: https://preemieprintsinfopage.blogspot.com/p/complimentary-nicu-post-nicu-photography.html?m=1#.XI4wyqQpCEc
We never did this, but I wish I had had the brain space to follow through on it. It WAS my daughter’s newborn stage, and part of her story and shouldn’t be hidden.

And i’d encourage you to share any advice you’ve seen here that you find worthwhile, especially as it pertains to resources.
  • Thank you all for the kind wishes.

@lyse01 those are wonderful ideas. Thank you.
