Same boat here, I thought I gained weight based on how uncomfortable my clothes felt this week, but I didn't yet. Honestly gaining some weight would've eased my mind that things are going well, which I understand doesn't actually make sense. I'm 9 weeks tomorrow so not gaining anything makes me slightly nervous.
Believe it or not, with my first pregnancy I LOST weight in the first trimester! Like 3-4 pounds. I think it's because I stopped drinking. Then I only gained 18 lbs the whole time. Ironically, my son who is almost four is so big and tall now. So I wouldn't worry about not gaining weight yet. You definitely will gain soon and it is not an indicator of how healthy your nine months will go. Boils down to every woman, every baby, and every pregnancy is different.
Same. I LOST almost 10 pounds first tri of ast pregnancy because I was so sick. But then I gained almost 50 But then I lost 60 nursing. It was ridiculous. I didn't even do anything, like eat too much during pregnancy or work out a lot after. I was at the mercy of hormones . Pregnancy is weird.
What are your thoughts on food restrictions? It seems like so much is off limits.
I was looking up if I could have a cookie dough blizzard, worried about the cookie dough and found out some people have a listeria concern with soft serve machines not being cleaned properly. I decided to skip it to be safe, but then had a dream about blizzards last night! I really want one!
There’s so many other things I’ve skipped because I just wasn’t sure about: Queso at Pancheros, warm sandwhich at Potbelly’s, cold chicken on a salad...
I’m wondering if everyone is skipping these things or if I’m just being overly cautious.
@sammygirl18 I wouldn’t have skipped any of the things you mentioned. I’m not cautious when it comes to food. I eat sushi every once on awhile, specifically salmon. I do try to limit fish like tuna. I eat all the deli meat. Listeria can be found at any time and we never know where it’s going to hit next. I was that way my first pregnancy and I’m the same with this one. I do watch my caffeine intake daily, but that’s about it.
@sammygirl18 I remember having the same concerns in a previous pregnancy about the soft serve machines. One thing I read that made me feel better is that if DQ were to have machines with listeria, you’d hear about it. And these days I feel like it’s more common to hear about an outbreak from fresh veggies than anything else. Which i tell myself to make myself feel better about the fact that right now I’m barely eating any veggies bc of nausea and food aversions 🤢

A good book to check out is Expecting Better by Emily Oster. It'll help relieve some of your concerns, and a lot of women on here recommend it!
Has anyone else had fainting spells? I almost passed out tonight. It came out of nowhere as I was making dinner and at first felt like I was going to throw up and then suddenly I got lightheaded and my ears started ringing and I would’ve fainted right then if I hadn’t laid down. It was terrifying, and I called and talked with a nurse who sort of brushed it off a bit. She said it was likely low blood pressure/sugar. Has this happened to anyone else?
@annanbby, yes, I fainted once around week 6, and I've felt light headed several times. For me, it happens most often when I'm in the shower, due to the hot steamy environment. When you get light-headed, try sitting down and resting your head between your knees. Getting your head lower than your heart helps. I'm sorry you are dealing with this too, it's very scary!
Who’s taking unisom and vitamin b6 for nausea? The sickness has finally hit me and I’m sending DH to walmart to get some now bc I need relief. I was just wondering does it work and how tired does it make you? Also do you take in the morning and at night? I always rode out the nausea my last 2 pregnancies but chasing 2 toddlers around now, I’m desperate!
@dogmom5 I’ve been taking it since about 6 weeks. It takes the edge off for me but I’m still not feeling great. I take 25 mg of B6 and half a Unisom 3x a day. It doesn’t affect me too much in terms of being tired
@melanier26 thank you. I’m going to give it a try and hope that it works! It hit me a little later than my last pregnancy, but ugh.....this is not fun!
@galentine I will definitely try that if it happens again! I guess it must be normal then, but gosh what a horrible experience. My fear now is for that to happen when I’m alone or at work. So scary.
Instead of my usual Pink Stork morning sickness tea, my husband got Traditional Medicinal pregnancy tea. It says it prepares your body for childbirth. But is it too early to be drinking it?? I’m 10 weeks.

13-14 weeks is when you can start anything with RRL in it, so yes, too early IMO

@annanbby, yes, it's completely normal. That definitely doesn't make it any less scary, but know you are not alone. Your blood pressure and blood sugar can be lower than normal during pregnancy, so it's not unusual to feel light headed or pass out. I've found it helps not to let myself go too long without eating.

Whoops. I had a mug yesterday, but I’ll save the rest!

I am! I only take half a 25mg unisom at night (so 12.5mg) and then 100mg B6 in the morning. I’m on the smaller side so the unisom really knocks me out-hence why I only take half. It still makes me pretty tired. If you can, try to take it at night to see how it affects you. Hope you feel better! I also use Pink Stork magnesium spray, which is supposed to help with nausea as well. I got it from Amazon.
How does everyone feel about drinking kombucha? There is technically alcohol in it because it’s fermented, but it’s such a small amount (like 0.1%). I know there isn’t much research on kombucha and pregnancy so I was curious to hear others’ thoughts. I miss it!

I mean, I start having 4 oz of wine a week once I hit 12/13w so 🤷🏼♀️

Fair enough!! I do think it’s raw/unpasteurized but that’s how the probiotics are preserved. Thanks for answering!

So, I struggle with this because listeria and salmonella I feel like are striking in weirder and weirder places. Like canteloupe or romaine lettuce. BUT in general I don't follow the rules. At all. LOL. I will eat cooked sushi or deli meat from a place I feel is safe and clean. I ask the Subway people to microwave my meat. I eat dippy eggs but not the whole raw egg. (I don't like ice cream, can't help you there.) I drink one cup of coffee per day but no more. I clean with bleach (because my husband won't clean bathrooms). So I guess I pick and choose what rules I follow based on how much I like that food or how much I need that thing.
I figure the rules are risk management. The risk of getting listeria from a soft serve machine is pretty low. But not nonexistant. So the question becomes cost vs benefit. I tend to feel like the risk is quite low and the benefit is almost certain, so I just eat what I want. But to others any unnecessary risk is just...unnecessary. Why take it on if you don't have to?
But I don't want to make you change your mind just because that's what I do. You should listen to your gut...if it feels better to be cautious, then do it!!

What are the ingredients?
ETA: If its this, it looks like it has... Organic raspberry leaf [DAC]* 350 mg , Organic strawberry leaf [DAC]* 350 mg , Organic nettle leaf [PhEur]* 175 mg Proprietary Blend: 875 mg, Organic spearmint leaf [PhFr]*, Organic bitter fennel fruit [PhEur]*, Organic rose hip [PhEur]*, Organic alfalfa leaf [BHP]*, Organic lemon verbena leaf [PhFr]*
The only thing I would caution about is the raspberry leaf...this ingredient is used to prepare your uterus for labor, lots of women use it, but it should not be used by women who have astrong history of breast cancer in their families. (At least, this is what I was told by someone at my practice 4 years ago.) The other ingredients if ther is an issue I don't know it.
I don't think this tea would help with nausea much.
I do highly recommend the mother's milk version of this tea after birth if you plan to breastfeed. It smells like licorice but doesn't taste like it, it is pretty yummy.
Anyone planning to do an at home blood DNA test to find out if you're having a boy or girl? I'm dying to know!! Trying to convince DH it's a good idea.
@aprosch I was thinking about but now I'm going to see if I can get OB to deem the NIPT as medically necessary (RPL seems a good swaying factor) and will just wait for that.
Does your base body temperature go up during pregnancy? I haven’t taken my own until today when I was feeling warm. My normal is 97.8 (a bit lower than the typical) and it’s hovering around 99 this afternoon.

@melanier26 yep, totally normal. I'm usually around the same as you. Since DS is sick and I've been taking his all day, he needed to take mine and it was 99.1.
@aprosch@prpl11butterfly Thanks for responding quickly. I feel like crap (in a different way than I have the last month) and I’m hoping I’m not getting sick
Anybody having a lot of gas that is making your nausea worse? I feel like I burp and hiccup most of the day. Is there anything harmful in gas-x? I’ve never taken it before so unsure if it will help.
@quidditchcapn1120 I'm having a lot of burping with my nausea as well. Fun times! I'm c&p-ing below what my Dr's office recommends for gas. I haven't tried any of these yet though.
**Gas: -Papaya tablets with meals, capsules of activated charcoal, Gas-X, Gelusil: Take as directed by package label.
@sammygirl18 my OB only really restricts two things: queso fresco - he said it’s the most common cheese with listeria because of how it’s stored, and soda - depletes bone density. I still eat sandwiches from reputable places, steaks cooked to medium rare, runny yolk eggs, you name it.

Noooooo not soda. I didn't drink soda until last year because we never had it in the house, but SO keeps buying coke zero and I drink two 16oz glasses a day...I didn't think to question it during pregnancy because I was feeling plenty fine on my STM+ high horse.

*cries*
The only time I drink soda (decaf and diet) is during pregnancy. Never once have I been told it’s an issue
I just checked soda on the food safety look-up tool in the Ovia app. It's listed as "not recommended" but if you click to read the explanation, it says soda is fine in moderation as long as you are staying below the recommended daily caffeine limit. Using Coke zero as an example (only because it was mentioned by name), there are 34 milligrams of caffeine per 12oz can. You could theoretically drink almost 6 cans in a day and still stay under the suggested caffeine limit. Soooo I'm thinking some soda in moderation is just fine.
Just like everything else, different doctors are going to have different opinions on things. We just have to look at the evidence behind things and decide for ourselves what risks we're willing to take. @PenelopeSnuz77 If the reason your doctor says not to drink soda is because it depletes bone density, that would be a reason not to drink it pregnant or not. IMO most things in moderation are fine.
I had to do some googling on the soda question. It looks like the effect is linked to colas, not other sodas, and the cause is unclear. Ginger ale drinkers rejoice!
