Given that it is 3/7, I have officially made it one month without spilling the beans to DH, that his b-day gift is sitting in the guest room closet. He is an impossible man to shop for, and I am really bad at keeping secrets, so usually I either end up buying him something stupid like 2 days before his birthday, or I find the perfect gift at some point, and then let it slip. I think last year I gave him his gift a month early. But this year I found the perfect gift, had it shipped to the office, sneaked it into the house, and have even a couple of times joked about how I still have no idea what to get him... I just need to make it one more month...
@mrosek91 I'm HORRIBLE at keeping secrets, especially about gifts, because I LOVE giving them. I always tell DH almost immediately after buying him something and while I think he secretly hates that I do that, he let's it go because honestly, that's who he married.
@Mkrel not sure how much time she spent but I posted the same original thing I posted here, she connected the 3+1 to 40+0 thing and posted that, and I realized right away the last step. it took longer to type out than to think of it haha

@peachy0709 yes, it's so hard to keep it in when it's so exciting. But my DH is totally the opposite. He doesn't really care about birthdays, I buy him gifts more for me than for him. Whenever I do spill he finds it amusing. @mkrel it's called a Klein bottle (https://www.kleinbottle.com/) he's a PhD student, and this is exactly the type of pointless anomaly that PhD's like to keep on their desk to start conversations. When I first heard about it I thought it was perfect for him, and then I started having second thoughts over whether he's be upset I spent so much on something "useless" so I asked his twin (who is also a PhD student) what he thought, and he said "it's not useless, it's a Klein bottle." So I'm hoping that means DH will appreciate it.
My little sister is notoriously terrible at keeping secrets. She found out about my surprise 20th birthday, about 20 seconds before I did. When we were little, if she got us a gift, she would say "do you wanna know what it is?" "Nope!" "Well it's Monopoly!! 😁" 3 weeks before our birthday . Once we were playing a game (shes was about 25) where you hide your character identity. You are either a bad guy (mafia) or a good guy. I looked at my sister and said "are you mafia?" She blinked at me, said "no..." And started crying 😂. Needless to say, no one ever told her about gifts.
@mrosek91 the Klien bottle sounds super cool! I'm sure he will be thrilled!
So... I had NO idea how badly our Canadian dollar has tanked. (Actually improved compared to AUD and NZD, fairly similar to Euro as 10 months ago, and slightly worse compared to £). But compared to USD...well we won't be making a trip South of the border any time soon. It must be because of the failing trade negotiations and/or tarrifs? I dunno.
But 2 nights ago, I was looking into potential cost of a trip to Disney world in 2 years. Every 3 or 4 years, my family on my dad's side takes a trip down to Bemidji to hang in a nice hotel on the beach for the weekend. Last trip 2 years ago was super disappointing, so people don't want to go back. We discussed a massive family trip to Disney, since there hasn't been one for 32 years (before half of us were born).. But even if timing worked out that we got Disney's Canadian resident ticket deal, for 4 days at Disney, we are looking at at least $3000 usd per couple. Which 2 days ago was $4011 cad. And today is $4031. Anyway, things will change over 2 years. But still. Sad to know it's not feasible.
@chillycanadian - Yes, I completely understand! I manage our the hedging program for our global operations and CAD/USD & USD/CAD has been a nightmare. We're talking massive swings and explanations I'm having to dole out all the time. On top of what's already happening with precious metals (thanks, tariffs!). I'm not entirely sure, but I'm going to blame Trump. He likes to take credit for everything else - like screwing my family on our taxes. I really like Trudeau from what I know of him and would never blame it on him or your fellow countrypeople

@chillycanadian Disney is so pricey!! We actually were just looking into a quick inpromto weekend there this weekend and surprising the kids. It would have been close to 5k for the 4 of us to go! Granted that was at a pretty decent hotel on Disney property and would have included some cool extras but still. We are going to bite the bullet and do it sooner rather than later. I want to wait until all of the kids can enjoy it but I’m a little nervous that by the time this one is old enough my oldest will be too old.
@MamaK225 hahaha I will also happily blame Trump haha. There is some sort of scandal going on right now with Trudeau. I haven't paid attention. But it could be some of that too.
@olivemama it really is so pricy. DH and I went for 2 half days on the trip where we got engaged. It was his first time. He was SO mad about the cost and the crowds, and was super grumpy at first, which was ruining it for me. But by the time we were in line for our first ride for 10 min, his tune had changed .The Disney magic had got to him haha. He ended up loving it. We went to Euro Disney last summer too. Not as good as Disney world though.
I know I should wait till the kids are old enough to actually enjoy it. But 10 years seems sooooo far away! Haha. But really...if we can't go while this baby is 2, there is no point going till it's probably at least 8-10 (depending on subsequent kids). But I also just found out that flights for children are the same price as adult. Under 2 is free on lap, but then we would have to buy a car seat when we arrived. And be stuck in the airport till someone went to get it. Under 3 is free at Disney, but if you're paying $700+ for a flight, your kid better be able to enjoy Disney.
@dogmomma096 yay for finding a day care that fits your needs. It must be a relief.
@velvetskyy I can't wait to watch Killing Eve. I would always see the previews during Dr. Who and my DH wanted to watch it with me. It is on our very long list, but I think it may get bumped up.

"Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks, some doors are open, some roads are blocked"
In a few of my FB moms groups people have basically said that for a family of 4 at Disney World to expect the cost including hotel, food, park tickets etc to be around 1k a day (NOT including airfare). It just seems so crazy. I definitely want to bring my kids a couple of times, but for that kind of money I don't understand why people make that into a week long vacation over and over again. There are so many other places I would like to go with that high of a budget!
I asked DH a stupid question this morning, and when he answered it, I replied with "I have a brain somewhere." DS#1 (almost 3yo) was standing right near me, and said "Where's your brain, Mommy?" 😂
So a perfect house went on the market last night and we're racing to see it. The problem is that we are not ready to list ours for another month. Adulting sucks.
Someone asked if they could drop stuff off at my house at 7am this morning. I said ok, and set an alarm for 6:50am so I could be up and they wouldn’t have to ring the doorbell and wake up the rest of my family. We are NOT morning people. It’s now 7:30am, they haven’t showed up, and I’m heading back to bed super annoyed.
My cousin is getting married in May (maybe, she's already joked about calling it off the day before), and I haven't gotten an invitation yet. NBD, but my sister in law told me in her invitation, there's a card requesting children under 12 not attend the reception, which is immediately following the 2 PM wedding on a Sunday. All outdoors. I don't know if I'm just overreacting, but I don't really want to go sit outside in the Texas heat, 6 months pregnant, wrangling a toddler (who loves being outside) for an hour and not attend the reception when she would be able to play.
We used to be really close, but once I got married, she basically stopped talking to me, for no known reason. I tried to maintain contact, but I've given up on single-handedly trying to keep relationships going for a while now.
I'm sure there's a reason for the no kids at the reception, but it just rubbed me the wrong way.
We slept in a bit this morning and were all laying in bed, DS started getting rowdy and climbing on us, then he stopped, pulled up the bottom of my shirt and tried to say baby! So I said, "Yes, your baby brother is in there. Do you want to give him a kiss?" Qnd he smacked about 5 noisy kisses on my stomach. Too cute!
@WinchesterGirl that’s so sweet! My DS (almost 3) Has been talking about “baby seester in mommy’s tummy” non-stop lately... I just wish he would stop trying to pull my shirt up all the time 😂
@jmesue1030 Yeah, it was cute with no one there but I'm not about showing off the bare belly with anybody around! So hopefully he doesn't try that elsewhere.
