Hi all! My first forum entry about this. Ah, I’m pretty private so hopefully I can find some support here. I’m 40 and doing my first IVF cycle this month. Low sperm count and very low AMH but just decided to try this. Have been TTC since age 38 and hoping it would happen naturally. Good luck to everyone!
@ACAC25 That's great! It can be SUCH a roller coaster, so having techniques like that will definitely benefit you.

Hello @ifat40 - Welcome to the group and baby dust! These groups are full of information, love and support so, make the most of it and don't hesitate to ask questions, whatever silly it might be.
*lurking as we gear up for our second try at IVF in may* @Tulips29 our clinic does PGS with fresh transfer. They biopsy on day 5, send overnight to the lab and the lab returns results the morning of day 6 before fresh transfer.
That said, I go back and forth on the merits of PGS unless there are known genetic issues (like CF or Huntington’s). I have yet to come across data that confirms any consistency in results (different labs have come up with wildly different results on the same embryos) or that transfer of abnormal embryos actually does result in chromosomal abnormalities. I realize why we don’t have this information for ethics reasons, but as a researcher, I’m not sold on it as a legit science yet. The only reason I would do it is because I want a girl, but if we only have 2-3 embryos like last time, we will skip it again.

@PoeMasque, what makes you say that about the testing? It sounded really great when I discussed w RE but you've seen big variation in results based on which lab does it? Yikes....!

@ellemarie7 I fear I will be like you and struggle for a while. I feel sick after I eat. This morning I felt horrible and actually threw up 1.5hrs after eating cereal and then slept for 30 mins. I seem to have an upset stomach or nausea all the time. And I have noticed I dont feel hungry until I'm so hungry i feel sick. Not very fun. 😞
@pegs007 the technique I was told today is like a breathing/meditation technique. Basically you close your eyes and visualize a calming place in nature. Think of how you feel, what you see and think of one person with you. You should breathe slowly and push your belly out (instead of your chest) when you breathe in and hold it for 3 secs then exhale everything out of your lungs. Repeat 5 times. It's supposed to help with anxiety and stress.😊
@minie16 I second what @PoeMasque said... PGS is far from being an exact science. I'm 41, and we won't be doing PGS this round (we didn't the first two either) even though we had a baby with T-18. We will probably only have 2-3 embryos anyway, and it's a risk we're going to take. It's such a personal decision, but make sure to ask lots of questions and do a lot of reading My RE didn't recommend it for us either.
Hi everyone! I'm starting my stims for my 2nd retrieval (hopefully) Monday. We did our first retrieval in January. We ended up with 5 blastocysts and sent them off for PGS testing. We have 2 normal boys, 1 abnormal boy, and 2 mosaics (one girl and one boy). They are low mosaics so my doctor is optimistic about them. Since I have bad endometriosis, we are doing another retrieval before doing a transfer (I want to bank my embryos while I'm 30 since I want to space out my kids). If all goes well, we will do a fresh transfer after this retrieval.
Hi all, thanks for all the support!! Update: went to the doctor today for blood work and US. Endometrium was 12, and blood work was good! Started POI two days ago, not going too bad (my hubby has become an expert 😂). I’m also on estrace/Medrol/doxycycline bid. Have to go back for blood work again on Monday. Tuesday is the transfer!!!😱😱 Super excited and nervous. Trying to relax!
@minie16 several women on these boards have sent their embryos for testing at different labs and had very different results (one lab labeled embryos abnormal while another one labeled them normal). Even our RE admitted it’s a “developing science”. Although it’s normal for labs to vary slightly, the data just isn’t there to support consistency in PGS testing yet. Also make sure to google the lab your RE uses, several of the big labs have had major compliance issues or lawsuits that they’ve lost.

@PoeMasque that's so scary to think about. I keep going back and forth in my head on this since I started reading so much conflicting feedback on PGS testing. We're doing PGS again this retrieval cycle, but I keep thinking what to do with the abnormal or mosaic embryos. What if this lab is right and the next lab will say they are normal and transferring that embryo will lead to issues? I love how amazing science is these days, but I just wish there was a clear answer to all of this!

@ACAC25 ugh, I'm so sorry. I promise it does get better eventually! Do you take your dose with meals? It helped me a little. But I know it makes you so NOT hungry because you feel like such garbage, so it's a vicious cycle. Hang in thereee!
@PoeMasque interesting. DH and I (mostly me, he doesn't want to do it) have been going back and forth with PGS testing this time. I'm 31, he is 33. Our old RE said we didn't have to at all, our new RE echos that sentiment. However with two miscarriages under our belts from our first few transfers, I feel like having PGS tested embryos would give me a better peace of mind. Also, if we keep miscarrying with PGS "normal" embryos we would be able to better pinpoint the problem than wonder if it was the embryo or not. But from what you're saying, that doesn't even seem like a fail safe then...? At this point I want to know the embryos I'm putting in are "good" and that they can result in a pregnancy instead of being doomed from the start. Interested to hear your thoughts as we'll have to make the decision fairly soon now and I'm still really torn.
@ellemarie7 gosh I feel so horrible! I take my daytime dose with food and the 2nd st night before I sleep. I talked to my doctor and hes switching me to a slow release metformin to try to get rid of my side effects. They have been really bad. Today I've thrown up everything I've eaten and I feel horrid. I haven't moved from the couch all day. 😞 I'm seriously hoping this new med helps.
@sue2019 sending you lots of sticky vibes for your transfer tomorrow!
Hey ladies! I’m doing my first ivf cycle this month and I’m super nervous! I had my baseline u/s and bloodwork this morning and start gonal f tonight. I’m a newbie on here so I’m not sure how to post my TW, bare with me! * I’m 28, DH 29 and TTC since 2014. I have an 8 yo from a previous relationship. We had an ectopic pregnancy May 2015 and I lost my right tube. We tried on our own until March 2017 and had an HSG. It was normal and we did not see an R.E. until Feb 2018. We did 6 cycles of Chlomid before learning we were dealing with MFI and being advised to move to IUI. Given the issue we’re facing we opted to skip to IVF as it gave us higher chances of conceiving. * I have only shared our IVF news with my mother so I’m hoping this forum will give me the support and outlet I’m desperately needing. Hoping this is our month, good luck ladies!
Hi everyone and welcome to the new ladies! Haven’t posted in a week or so because work has been super busy. Which I guess is a good thing because it helps the time to fly by. I’m still on track for a 3/11 transfer date but I’m super nervous. Google has not been my best friend and I wish someone would take my phone from me 😩. I had a lining check last week and everything looked good, 3 layers and measured at 10.9 but I still have that feeling of anything that can go wrong probably will. Talk me off the ledge please, lol. If everything goes right at my f/u lining check tomorrow I’ll start my antibiotics, prednisone and PIO....
The big day has arrived!! Transfer day 😍😍. It’s 15 degrees outside, how am I going to stay warm?! I feel very emotional today, first day I’ve cried since starting this cycle. I’m scared and excited at the same time. Trying to stay positive and as calm as I can. Going for a relaxation massage this morning before the transfer. Thank you all for good wishes/ vibes! God, here we go!
3/11 and 3/14 are my possible transfer dates too! My first check looked good yesterday too but I’m in the same boat, googling EVERYTHING and working myself up 😞 up until now I’ve been cautiously optimistic but now that I’ve startes my stims I’m backsliding. I guess all we can do is remember the doctors know what they’re doing and if they say things look good then they’re right! Easier said than done lol
To the ladies transferring this month, feel free to stay here and share your updates but you may want to jump over to the March 2019 FET board...that's where others are actually transferring embryos instead of stimming/going through an egg retrieval They are more on your timeline for support, questions, etc.! And GOOD LUCK to everyone transferring this week or next!!
@ACAC25 I read about that kind of Met! Did you start taking it? Hope you see some relief, I feel terrible you're physically getting sick...it was not that bad for me even though I felt like puking all day long I never did! Thinking of you, keep hanging in there! PS - when will you start stimming?? Are we on a similar schedule? I'll probably start around 3/20 depending on when AF wants to show her face...
@ellemarie7 it's been rough. I started the new medication last night so today is my first day on it. So far I feel better than yesterday. The next few hours are really going to be the decider on whether or not it's better. The awful thing I found out yest is my Dr wants me to stay on it until the pregnancy test for the next cycle! Urgh! We are on a similar schedule. Af is pretty regular for me so I'm expecting to start stims March 18th or 19th with a retrieval around 28th of March. It's always nice to have someone going through things at a similar time 😊
@sue2019 I'm sure everything will go great today. Just try and keep calm and relaxed l (I know easier said than done!) But I think a massage is a great idea! Sticky vibes!!
@acac25 same, I'll be on it for quite a while...good sign that you feel better than yesterday so fingers crossed this will do the trick! And yayyy...looking forward to going through it together!
@k_mama91 IVF can seem overwhelming and scary, but good thing is that you're in the right place for tons of support. Please ask any questions, search the boards, etc. We will be rooting for you along the way!
@ashcash03 ugh, I've fallen victim to googling as well and it can lead to terrible things! Try not to and just trust your doctor that everything is going according to plan. It sounds like everything is looking good for your transfer, so try not to stress out and stay positive! The 11th is right around the corner!
You guys, what's up with these stim headaches? I never had them before and this week they are no joke. I'm on gonal-f, menopur and now cetrotide (last 2 days). These headaches are killing me!

@ACAC25 thanks, I hope so too! Tylenol never works for me, and that's all I was told I can take.

Final counts from the ER on 2/28 are in for me, and I'm feeling...happy/sad. 9 follicles - going into this ER I was EXCITED. 5 eggs, 1 immature and 4M, all fertilized. 4 cysts during ER that didn't yield eggs. I cried after the ER because I really thought I would be totally done after 1 round of IVF, but alas... 3 frozen survivors/polar bears (is that what they are called now?): 3AA, 3AB, 4BB- 2 didn't grow after day 3 and day 5. So out of 9 follicles, 3 embryos. Not bad, but I was hoping for 50% or better. Maybe I was unrealistic? Going to start another cycle after chatting w doc on Friday because I'm too scared these 3 may not stick when we do our transfers...I've never been pregnant and I'm low on AMH, so time is not on my side. The hardest part is not being able to share with family; only my DH and BFF know. Can't tell my mom or sis because I don't think they would get it, and would end up making my life more difficult explaining it all the time.
All in all...I'm just whining. But hey, that's why I'm here! Thanks to the ladies along with me for this crazy ride. Good luck to all of you, I hope my next cycle the doc can be more aggressive and get more eggs from me. I sure AF don't want to do this 3x, my budget is already toast!! @minie16 I'm sorry you arent feeling good after the retrieval. It can be surprising and upsetting when the numbers arent what you hoped for. But 3 frozen embryos is good news. On our first round out of 11 eggs 7 got fertilized and only 2 made it to day 5. We were shocked and upset so I completely understand how you feel. But try to stay positive, it only takes one after all. Are you going to do another retrieval cycle before an FET?
@ACAC25 thanks so much for your kind words...it's hard to vent about this because I am grateful for the 3, but I'm so afraid that once we actually transfer, things will be tricky again.
I am going to try to start another IVF medication cycle this Friday, if possible, and schedule another retrieval for later this month or early April depending on what we see with this round.

@ellemarie7 omg these meds are like night and day to each other. I actually feel human again now! The only thing that is affected is my appetite in the evenings but other than that I feel normal. Such a relief!! How are you feeling on the metformin?
@Tulips29 I would think that an hour or so ahead wouldn't be an issue but to make sure can you call your dr or even a regular nurse and ask? If not can you take them with you to mix in the bathroom?
Hi, new here and a little late joining. I am starting my first round of IVF. Looking at a retrieval at the end of March so I think I'm on a similar schedule as some other ladies here. We are hoping to do a fresh transfer if things go well. I am 29 and DH is 34, we're doing IVF because of PCOS/hypothyroid as well as male factor infertility. I'm on birth control and Lupron, starting to get some fatigue and hot flashes. Anyways, happy to be here among people who get it!
@alliem89az welcome!! Looks like you're on a similar timeline as me and @ACAC25 This is a great place for support, ask any questions or vent throughout your journey. We're all here for ya!
@ACAC25 yayyyyy!!!! So happy that did the trick. January was literally the worst month for me lol but since early February I've been totally fine on the Met, no more side effects. YOU MADE IT haha!!!
@alliem89az - Welcome! Excited to "meet" you, wishing you all the best.
@Tulips29, could you bring a little lunch box or "purse" with an ice pack, and have the meds in there? If you premix peptides they need to be kept cool or they will denature, and for the $ we pay you don't want a denatured batch of meds to inject. Either premix and cool or just mix when you are ready to inject. If you have your name on the meds I don't think the security peeps will give you a hard time. Or maybe just bring the label from the box if they are too big to carry in a purse.

Update: went to the doctor today for blood work and US. Endometrium was 12, and blood work was good! Started POI two days ago, not going too bad (my hubby has become an expert 😂). I’m also on estrace/Medrol/doxycycline bid. Have to go back for blood work again on Monday. Tuesday is the transfer!!!😱😱
Super excited and nervous. Trying to relax!

@sue2019 sending you lots of sticky vibes for your transfer tomorrow!
I have only shared our IVF news with my mother so I’m hoping this forum will give me the support and outlet I’m desperately needing. Hoping this is our month, good luck ladies!
To the ladies transferring this month, feel free to stay here and share your updates but you may want to jump over to the March 2019 FET board...that's where others are actually transferring embryos instead of stimming/going through an egg retrieval

9 follicles - going into this ER I was EXCITED.
5 eggs, 1 immature and 4M, all fertilized.
4 cysts during ER that didn't yield eggs. I cried after the ER because I really thought I would be totally done after 1 round of IVF, but alas...
3 frozen survivors/polar bears (is that what they are called now?): 3AA, 3AB, 4BB-
2 didn't grow after day 3 and day 5.
Have any of you had better results with alternative regimens to menopur/gonalF/cetrotide?

Are you going to do another retrieval cycle before an FET?
I am going to try to start another IVF medication cycle this Friday, if possible, and schedule another retrieval for later this month or early April depending on what we see with this round.

@Tulips29 I would think that an hour or so ahead wouldn't be an issue but to make sure can you call your dr or even a regular nurse and ask? If not can you take them with you to mix in the bathroom?
@ACAC25 yayyyyy!!!! So happy that did the trick. January was literally the worst month for me lol but since early February I've been totally fine on the Met, no more side effects. YOU MADE IT haha!!!
