@cmbt2 You work in the nuclear industry? My husband does, too! First he was a reactor engineer, then worked in the fuel department at corporate, and now does QA for the nuclear motor repair shop.
@steminist yup! You’re resident BMB health physicist at your service. I work as a regulator now, though. My H is also in this field as a government contractor.
@cmbt2 I strongly considered being an HP when I first was job hunting. We lived in the plant town, and there weren't many other jobs for a bio major! We relocated to a bigger city, though, and I fell into teaching instead.
@steminist I love it. I spent my first few years of college not knowing what I wanted to do and then discovered the field. My degree is in NE, but I focused on HP and went straight into it upon graduation. I did a few years in private industry before jumping to the regulatory side. It’s such a small (and often unknown) field, but I love it.
@bacheerios@geminigirl16@marbellie I love the idea of having a French language themed thread! Or maybe even a bilingual/multilingual thread? We could share tips on raising bilingual children, book/tv program recommendations, songs, etc. What do you think? Marbellie, you mentioned your kids being trilingual. What three languages? That's amazing! My husband speaks zero French, so I'm hoping to find a school or program for the little one when they're old enough.
YES.
This will probably get copy+pasted in the bilingual thread should one get off the ground:
I speak 5 - English because school in Kansas, German because of my dad and Spanish because of my mom.
I spent a year in France and got the Franco-German Baccalaureat, then did a year in Italy during undergrad (my Italian has definitely suffered, though).
As for my kids, the 4 years we spend in Boston helped DD1 establish English as a mother tongue, but now we're in Germany it's lagging behind. And with DD2 it's been an uphill fight from the start. I speak English to the kids and SO German, and I've added 30 minutes of "homeschooling lite" with Spanish workbooks for DD1 in the evening when DD2 is in bed. I am under no illusion that DD1 will learn anything more than very basic Spanish this way. My thought is that any little bit is better than nothing.

I made a thread for bilingual families! Feel free to share any and all ideas, tips, and tricks!
