Re: February Randoms

  • @sgrn18 I'm sure he was just fine! Good luck with everything.
  • Thanks guys! Overall he did well but he only took two 20 min naps when he usually takes 2.5 to 3 hrs worth of naps so he was a bit cranky. When I got there he was fine but i tried to put him down for a second while I got his bottles together and he lost his marbles for a minute.  He seemed to enjoy playing with the other kids so that was cute. He made it until 630 after we got home before he fell asleep and has been asleep since so we'll see what this does to his night sleep.

You guys, I am genuinely depressed that Nate is turning one soon. Any time I think about it or try to talk about it I want to cry. I thought I would be excited but I'm not anymore.
  • Well LO started puking his brains out yesterday evening, which resulted in a call to the dr and a trip to the ER.  A dose of zofran and he hasn't thrown up since midnight and has held down all his breastmilk today.  LO caught a stomach virus on his 2nd day of daycare. I knew he would get sick, I expected it, but seriously?? The 2nd day??? Ugh.

  • Poor mommies and babies.  Turning one with your first is hard.  I hope all in the sick camp get better.
  • @sgrn18 I'm so sorry. That's rough. I hope he gets better soon! I'm glad he's holding it down now.
  • @sgrn18 Poor little guy. It's so pathetic when they puke. They don't know what's coming. They don't know what to do. Poor you, as well. It's rough and gross. Glad he's feeling better already.

  • Hope he’s feeling better @sgrn18
  • @mccurleya I'm sorry the little man turning 1 has you down - thinking of you!

@sgrn18 Holy cow, I'm sorry you and LO are going through that!  If nothing else (and not to overly silver-lining it), at it least it happened this week instead of next week when you start work, right?  Makes it easier for you to nurse him back to health.  Hope he's feeling better!
  • Any advice on getting baby to understand/internalize the concept of "no"?  Nora thinks it's the funniest word in the world.  We've tried: removing her from the situation without saying anything, removing her while saying "no" sternly, removing her while saying "no" neutrally, removing her and redirecting her to a better behavior... all to no avail.  We praise her for doing the right thing and she knows what she's not supposed to do, she just thinks it's funny to do it!  Honestly, yesterday it got to the point (she went from one thing she wasn't supposed to do to another to another all in under a minute) that I put her in her pack n play (which she hates) and let her fuss for 30 seconds before going to get her.  I don't want that to be my go-to, but I don't know how else to get through to my willful pup!
  • @ashtuesday a stern no works for Nate the majority of the time. Sometimes we have to move and distract. But lately he does what he wants anyway and smiles. So maybe it's a phase they all go through that we will all have to figure out

Goodness gracious ya'll I've had a crazy week! LO apparently also caught a cold on top stomach bug which caused an ear infection. He passed his stomach bug to me and MH had to take off 2 days off work because i couldn't do anything (fever, chills, overall feeling like trash, then the gut issues) it was horrendous.  We are all mostly better today aside from LOs congestion.  Thank you all for thinking of us!

@ashtuesday as for the no thing.  LO does the same thing! Its funny for him that i i tell him no and no matter how many times i remove him from the situation he goes back the second he gets the chance.   I think he likes that I respond to it, like it's a game or something.
  • The no thing is a phase. Keep saying it and eventually it will help. Declan gets a stern no when he does things he shouldn’t. Usually he will still laugh or smile then I will say it again and he will listen most of the time. They still really don’t understand the meaning of what it means thoroughly but will if you keep reinforcing.

  • So while grocery shopping today Nate legit chocked on a banana, ate half my grocery list while I looked away for 1 minute at olive oil, gagged on it, and threw up all over himself. Then we got home and he ate a piece of popcorn that I missed on the ottoman. THEN I forgot to feed him for like 2 hours after he was supposed to eat because I had a paper to write. I feel like I failed today and it's only 1:30.
  • @mccurleya you didn’t fail, he’s alive and I am sure no worse for the wear.

Declan has started climbing. He still takes naps in his swing but has started climbing into it to play. I don’t know what I am going to do if I have to put it away.
Also my dining chairs have to get put on top of the table now because he pushes them places and tries to climb them to get to on top of things.

  • @megpeg thank you.

Nate has started pushing things around too, but doesn't climb them yet. I've got to figure out how to put gates up in an open floor plan type house haha
  • @mccurleya similar story here, too. The other day I had to go to the bathroom. V usually follows me in there. Except this time I hear her crawl on by. They I hear the pocket door sliding ( I didn't know she could push that heavy door open.) and I come running out trying to pull my pants up and she has both hands in the soil of a potted plant. AHH so I close and latch the door, put her down in her play area, and go back to make sure i'm clean (glamorous mom life! Sorry if that's tmi) and I hear a weird gagging/ gurgling noise so I come running out again and she's puked everything up. Apparently there was dirt in her mouth and when she tried to swallow it her body was like NOPE.
The rest of the afternoon I was a little bit freaked about whether or not there's anything toxic in potting soil. Sheesh!

  • @fatstagnation we were convinced he was going to have ink poisoning. I'm glad to know there's similar stories even though it sucks. Haha thank you for sharing!
  • Lol! Ive definitely been there and im almost embarrassed to admit that LO even got ahold of it.  Weve been doing some renovations but nothing that is too crazy. We ripped off the base boards to replace them and under one the dry wall was all messed up.  LO crawled over to that specific spot, grabbed a piece of broken drywall and before I even realized what happened it was in his mouth.  Just for clarification the drywall was cracked NOT in pieces on the floor or anything.  LO had to rip it off to get it.  I made MH find the MSDS sheet for it (non toxic btw).  I was freaking out!
  • Poor moms!

I am currently doing my last officially obligated pump at work.  The next time I return I will have a one year old.  Guys, I have pumped at work for four years total since 2013!  I can’t believe that.  Usually I would be done pumping officially by one year, but my supply is still too much that I have to slowly wean.  I still want to nurse her for another year, so hopefully we can continue that with less of me having to pump.  I guess I am also done being a donor.

  • @megpeg we also have a Graco 4ever (I think). I know its Graco but I know there's different types so I'm unsure
  • I I ended up finding a DIono rainier 2axt for only $30 more and head heard and read really good things about them so I am hoping it is good.
