We technically had this trip planned pre baby because it’s our 10 year anniversary. But we are doing a long weekend on Cumberland Island. I’ll be right in the middle of second trimester so timing was perfect. I plan on relaxing as much as possible and eating some delicious food. My kids will stay with my in laws so it will be nice to have some 1 in 1 time with the hubs.
We are taking a kid free trip to San Antonio Hill Country in early April. It will be my first time leaving my daughter, and I'm anxious about it, but looking forward to having some one on one time with my husband. Then over Memorial Day weekend we are taking a family babymoon to San Diego.
We don’t have an official one but we are going to London in April. We’re also going to Germany and Luxembourg in April. I had wanted us to try to go to Portugal in May or June but I don’t think the timing will work out. We will try to do something else though that is local. I am super excited for London to eat good food. Dutch food sucks. I can’t wait to eat flavourful and spicy food!
We are going to Norway for eight days in late April/early May. Since graduating from college in 2013, we have tried to do one international trip per year, since we knew those would likely slow down once we started a family. I'll be 23-24 weeks during the trip, so hopefully at a nice point.
We will also probably do an in-state camping trip in the summer with a few other couples we are close to.
@mkrel If you don’t mind me asking, where are y’all staying? I was thinking about doing a night at the Hyatt Resort out there around Father’s Day (we’re in Austin to easy to do just a night).
We already had a trip to London planned, so we’re calling it our baby moon, even though MH’s Aunt and Uncle are going with us. We leave in 2 weeks so I’ll be 20 weeks on the trip. I’m looking forward to browsing some stylish (and I’m sure expensive) British baby clothes. @AKuzReve I’m excited for the London food too!
@heml, it’s gonna be so good! If you want any recommendations, let me know as I have a bunch for our trip. British baby clothes are also amazing! Have fun!
DH and I sat and compared work schedules and the first time we could even conceivably take a couple of days off for a possible babymoon is mid-June, so well into my 30-weeks-phase. Before I got pregnant I was planning to be in Italy for work then, but I had to back out of the trip. We'll probably figure out some kind of trip locally but it won't be an extravagant second-trimester jaunt like last time. Wherever we go I just need there to be a spa with a (preferably heated) pool so I can swim for exercise.
For DD we went to this lodge/resort near Monterey/Big Sur in California (it's like a 1-2 hour drive from us) and did some great dining and hiking. I really want to go back there but I'm worried it will be hot in June. I'm also not sure what we will do about DD. We live far away from family and I'm not sure I'm comfortable leaving her in our nanny's place for days on end, so we will bring her with us so that limits what kinds of activities we could do. Overall I'm kind of bummed about scheduling and how isolated we are in terms of family support--normally it's not an issue but I would really like a little time with DH before getting back into the chaos of a newborn and I'm sad that this doesn't seem to be possible.
We're lucky though to live in a place with lots of awesome local options--last pregnancy I ran up to Napa Valley a lot to swim in the spas there so I'm just going to try to bring DD with me on little solo trips and do that again!
Going to visit family in Canada from 32-36 weeks. Juuuust flying the return before the 36 week cutoff for the airline lol. Does that count? 😂
(I flew at 33 weeks with ds and then road tripped around Norway in a rental car with family for 2 weeks and felt ok, so I'm hoping I'll feel the same at 35/36 weeks this time around too)

We will be road tripping to Texas in May! It is our 10 year anniversary, and we wanted a budget/toddler-friendly trip. So we'll take our time and stop a few nights on the way there in Pensacola, Louisiana, then spend a few nights in Texas, & my husband the history buff is very excited to see the Alamo in person!
The rest of his vacation time for the year will be saved for the birth. I'm a little bummed we won't be able to do our annual trip to see the leaves change, but the new LO will be so young & with lack of vacation time I don't think it will happen this year.
We are going to combine trips with our work trips. So we'll probably go to LA, Austin, and maybe New Orleans (but OMG so hot) depending on how things fall.
We're taking a fake babymoon. DH hates sleeping anywhere but his own bed, so it's hard to convince him to travel anywhere. My work needs me to be in NYC for a week in June, so I told him my mom is coming to watch the boys and you are coming with me. I didn't give him a choice. We will both have to work 9-5 (he can telecommute) but the evenings will be ours. We'll be at a nice hotel in NYC and be able to go out for meals, and just spend time together.
We don't have anything official planned, but we were looking at memorial day weekend since we're both already off for memorial day. We're kind of all over the place with where to go we've talked about San Antonio so @heml and @mkrel I'll be looking for your update, Nashville and Chicago are also on our list. Maybe the Florida gulf coast because I love the beach.

@Avrilmai DH and I did a long weekend in Nashville a while back (ugh, more like 5 years ago) and I loved the city!
I don't think we will do a baby moon. Money and PTO is going be tight and we planned on taking DS to Storyland in NH as a sort of last hurrah as a solo kiddo, so I think that's our summer adventure. But a family babymoon will be fun, right?! 😂 I hope at least when our inlaws are back in town they will watch DS so we can have a date night or two.
We have been batting around the idea of taking a big trip. Question for STM+ moms: I know there's a point past which you shouldn't fly, but at what point would travel no longer be fun? Especially foreign travel which involves a lot of flying and then a lot of walking around.
@zamora_spin I don’t think I would want to deal with a flight longer than 4-5 hours or so if I didn’t have to past 30ish weeks (so 31-32 coming home likely). I think the rest of the trip would probably be fine in all honestly a few weeks past that but a long flight would be unpleasent.
@zamora_spin I think I'd echo what @olivemomma said and hazard a 30-31ish guess, though everyone is different. I mentioned above that I was supposed to go to Italy for work for what will now be that exact time, and I seriously thought of just going for it since technically I'll be able to fly but the realities of getting up super early and herding students through archaeological sites and museums all day in the heat eventually won out. Going that pregnant would feel like a waste of a Europe trip and a double whammy: I wouldn't get the enjoyment I would normally get out of a trip like that because I wouldn't be able to keep up the pace I wanted, AND I would be depriving myself of what I really need at that stage: gentle self care like frequent massages, swimming, light exercise, and sleep.
We haven't taken a real vacation in some time, and even before realizing I was pregnant, was promised a warm weather destination this winter.
Was looking at the zika free places in the Caribbean, realized that in the Bahamas you can do that whole swim with pigs things, got super excited, after 45 minutes of research and planning, realized that swimming with wild animals is probably a bad idea, and not allowed by most of the tour companies... ugh, I forgot about all the restrictions, and that I had a "serious medical condition"
I want to do a baby moon but can’t figure out where. We looked into Disney’s Aulani resort in Hawaii. I was super excited but then realized that we probably shouldn’t spend that much money right before the baby is born. Now nothing sounds as good. I need ideas!! I usually go on one big trip a year and am getting antsy since my last big trip was a year ago to Lonfon & Paris. Any ideas?
We have a family vacation planned for the last week of June to a beach house for a week and that’ll be our last getaway before the baby comes since I am high risk for preterm labor and already due at the beginning of August.
I have only been away from my 2.5 year old overnight when I gave birth to my 15 month old and I’ve never been away from my 15 month old. I am thinking of asking my mother in law to stay with them for a night so DH and I can just get away for a night somewhere local and sleep. Kind of sad that this is our dream, but this will be our 7th kiddo total and sleep is a hot commodity!!
You guys are fancy!! I’m self-employed so we have to save for my maternity leave, plus we have a bunch of home projects we’re saving for so no big trips planned. My DH and I are driving to Knoxville and staying in an air bnb for 4 nights at the end of March. We also get pretty regular time to ourselves as my mom lovesss taking DS for several days at a time so I’m sure we’ll have a couple staycations before baby comes. We’re also lucky, my parents have a lake house in Michigan and we spend a lot of time there in the summer. It’s the best free vacation!
@purplg8r I think if you are really psyched about Hawaii you should still consider it. Once baby comes it will be hard to do a big trip like that for another couple years. Do you have any miles or hotel points you could use for a trip? DH and I went to Quebec City a couple years ago in the winter (when there was snow). We did a lot of winter activities (like dog sledding and an ice hotel) but the old parts of the city are neat regardless of when you go. It's so hard with stupid Zika because if I had my druthers we'd probably go on a nice, inexpensive and relaxing trip to Jamaica.
We don't really intentionally do babymoons. This year we have a lot of projects around the house, plus fixing my car. Also, I actually really do not enjoy travelling while pregnant. So, no major trips this year. We will probably take the kids to Great Wolf Lodge or something similar for a couple nights. It looks like we will do a week or long weekend at our family's cottage up north early this summer. DD has a hospital stay across the state next Thursday night for some testing so we are turning that into a girls weekend.
Instead we are dreaming bigger for our vacations next year. We are planning to cruise as a family for a week next February or March. Next May I am heading on a work hard play harder trip to Jamaica, and October next year we will be doing a shorter cruise...undecided if that one will be adults only, adults plus baby or all 5 of us.

Afm; We were gonna do a baby moon but now it will be 1-2 weekend trips mixed with a day trip or two near our state. When the baby comes, my husband is going to take a couple months off for paternity leave. Our state allows 6 weeks for fathers so we are going to take advantage of that, but it’s kinder to our coworkers to keep working until then. I’m a bit more freelance under the Corp we own than he is. Next year, we are taking the baby to Ireland with my older sister and her partner.
People think we become mothers when we give birth but the truth is we become mothers the moment we start calling our babies to us in our thoughts, dreams and prayers. Some paths are short and some are so long that you can easily forget where you were headed.

I never hit a point in my first pregnancy when I was too big to enjoy traveling. We didn't fly though, so that could make a difference since your movement is more restricted. It also probably depends on how much of a traveler you are usually - if you are the person who gets easily annoyed by travel inconveniences when not pregnant, that will only be magnified by pregnancy discomforts!
@suzycupcake thank you! Unfortunately we know for sure the testing will show abnormalities, it is just a matter of how severe...and then how to proceed and maybe eventually finding the root cause of these problems.

I actually found flying less restrictive than driving. Driving I was at the mercy of the driver for when we stopped and I could get out and walk or pee. Flying I could walk around as much as I wanted. Just not on takeoff, landing, or occasional turbulence. I wore compression socks which helped, but found flying across the Atlantic at 32 or 33 weeks was easier than doing a road trip a week later.
I had no complications in my pregnancy though, so of course that's a factor!

@AKuzReve I don’t have a preference on international or not. But we’ll have to go once school gets out in early June so around weeks 30-31. And I tell doesn’t matter to me much either. I like experiences and food (which is hard since there’s so many restrictions while pregnant).
@AKuzReve@Avrilmai I’ve actually never been to Canada. I might need to put that on the list!!
@zamora_spin not enough airline miles and if we go, we’ll definitely stay at the Disney resort. I think I’m going to sit down tonight and really look again.
@WinchesterGirl for me it is not about the travelling inconveniences that seem worse, it is that I tend to have pretty rough pregnancies. With DD I was nauseous until the day I delivered. With DS I started having contractions at 27 weeks and from 20 weeks on he was on a nerve that restricted blood flow and caused signifcant lightheadedness. With both I never fully re-gained my energy and dealt with a lot of back/hip/pelvic pain. I might enjoy a pregnancy vacay that involves sitting on a beach with a fancy mocktail, but that is not our usual travel style...we are on the go vacationers and my body forces me to slow down to a point that it takes a lot of the fun away.

@purplg8r, that is a perfect time for Montreal then. The food is so good and it’s pretty well priced. It’s such a cute city because it’s very European-esque without having to go to Europe.
I'm so jealous! All your trips sound wonderful! I LOVE to travel. And actually last week I looked at the possibility of doing something simple like Niagra falls.
But our house build should be completed with possession at the end of June, and we have to get this house ready to sell. And it's not possible to get summer vacation time off at our job. (Though I'm still off anyway).
So between moving complications, and money concerns, it's not logical right now.
But maybe we will splurge and do a spa day in June. I've never had a spa day...
I wish DH and I could take a vacation by ourselves, but since we can logistically and financially only do one vacation this year it would be kind of mean to leave the kids behind. We haven’t had a vacation by ourselves since our honeymoon....
