March 2019 IVF

I didn't see a thread started for this, so figured I'll go ahead with it. Anyone else starting a fresh IVF/retrieval cycle in March? Let's be cycle buddies! A bit of my history below and a trigger warning in a spoiler.

*History & TW* - This will be my 3rd IVF cycle and 3rd retrieval. My first IVF cycle and FET back in 2016 resulted in my now 2 year old son and we're now trying for baby #2. I just finished IVF #2 with another retrieval in January and now have 1 viable embryo to proceed. However, we're thinking to do another retrieval to have more embryos to choose from first before we transfer.

  • I am just waiting for AF so I can go in for my very first baseline and ultrasound appt. we’ve finished the other testing, so I hope I can join you ladies in March too! 🤞🏻
  • Hi ladies! I just finished my period last week so I'll start stimming with my March period for our second egg retrieval. **TW** Coming off a second chemical pregnancy from our third FET back in November, that was our last two embryos. Definitely needed some time, but ready to jump back in now and get this show on the road. New RE had me take these three months to be on some different medications, follow a low-carb/low-sugar diet and I'm feeling cautiously optimistic that 2019 will be our year. We'll be doing a freeze-all from this stim cycle, so that probably puts us at an early May FET.

Sounds like most of you will be stimming in early March, but will follow you ladies - good luck to us all!

  • @makana11 welcome!

@ellemarie7 I'm sorry about your losses, sounds like you're been through quite a lot. FX 2019 is the year for you! We may be on the same FET timeline as well

  • Hello ladies. I'll be joining you for the March IVF. Some background info.

**TW** DH and I have been ttc since 2015. In 2017 I found out at 9 weeks that I had a blighted ovum and the embryo stopped developing at around 5 or 6weeks. Last year we had testing and found out are dealing with MFI and IVF was our next step. **

I just finished my first IVF cycle that failed. I received my negative beta today. We paid for 3 full cycles, and because we have no frozen embryos, I will be starting stims again as soon as AF arrives (which will likely be in the next day or two). Hoping this is a successful cycle for everyone!!
  • I’m so sorry @ACAC25. I hope this next round is your last! 🙏🏻
  • @makana11 thank you. I hope this is the cycle for you too!
  • Hi ladies! Hoping on from the Jan boards.

Little history: Started stimming in Jan with plans for a fresh transfer ended up with severe OHSS so transfer was cancelled and I’m left with 4 frosties. My body overreacted really bad to the stims so I’ve been enjoying this break.

Started my FET cycle on Tuesday with 6mg of Estrace after being on BCP for 3 weeks. Transfer scheduled for March 11th now. Good luck 🍀 to us all!!!!!!!!
  • @ACAC25 I responded on the January boards about your beta. I’m sooooo sorry. This will be your cycle for sure!
  • @tulips29 thank you! Quite the ride isn't it? And that's awesome - looking forward to hopefully being cycle/transfer buddies! <3

@acac25 so sorry about your beta :( Hoping this next round is it for you! Are you trying anything different this time around?

@sherrod8590 good luck with starting to stim this weekend...hope it goes well and will be thinking of you!

@makana11 I hope AF arrives for you soon!
  • Hello Ladies! Jumping in from the January board as well. We had a failed cycle earlier this month and my stims are scheduled for end of March. Just hoping that March is a lucky month for all of us
  • Welcome @sbhawnani! Looks like we might also be cycle buddies...I'll probably start stimming around March 18-20th :)

  • So I got some bad news. Turns out my eggs didnt look so good and my follicles are very different sizes right now. So I am on BC and an exercise plan for the next 21 days and then I can start stims at the end ofMarch. I'm frustrated and stressed. But the doctor really thinks it's for the best to wait. It just really sucks now because my retrieval and transfer are going to be while my parents are visiting (DH and I currently live in Mexico and our families live in Canada).
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you ladies starting stims soon!!
  • @ACAC25 Shoooot. I’m sorry you got that news. I was wondering what happens when they check the follicles. I’m new to the process, but at 45, I’m wondering if my follicles will be able to generate extra eggs. Sounds like everyone is different and it sure seems like the doctors have a way around every road block too. I hope your eggs respond to this new regimen!
  • Welcome to all the new ladies! I'm really hoping March will be our month! @ACAC25 I'm sorry to hear about your delay. I know that's not what you wanted to hear. But sometimes things work out for the best, I'm sure your body will appreciate some rest as well. You'll be back at it before you know it!

  • Hi everyone! Scheduled to start my first IVF round with my March cycle. I’m currently doing a mock cycle/era test and took my first PIO shot this morning. I passed out. Lol. Luckily I’m totally fine but I would recommend laying down for the first one of those if you are feeling anxious. My biopsy is this Friday with my period to follow a couple days later. They are starting me on 10 days of birth control before stimming at the end of the month. Just a little background I’m 29 husband is 27 and we are trying for our first babe using PGD testing due to a male genetic factor. Good luck everyone!
  • Hello everyone! I will be starting stims tomorrow. Switched to IVF after failed IUI's. This is my first cycle.I am all nervous and anxious. Glad to have you all here.Anyone on mini IVF? Sending baby dust to you all !
  • Thanks ladies. Hello to @pegs007 and @sam23lc I hope this is a successful cycle for both of you.

In hindsight, now I've calmed down,I do think taking a 1 cycle break to reset and make changes is good. I have a blood test tomorrow so my doctor can change my supplements and DH is on a new supplement too. Man this exercise plan is going to be hard though. I'm not a  inactive person but I have to keep my heart rate between 145-190 for at least 25 minutes 5 times a week! Today was day 1 and I felt like I was dying!! 🤣

Also I'm not sure if anyone can speak to this but DH and I tried to DTD and I'm still sore inside from the stims and whole cycle in Jan/Feb. 😞 It sucks that it takes our bodies so long to recover.
  • Transfer possibly for next Tuesday! Today, endometrium was the 13.6, is that a good? I’m nervous and excited! We only have one very good quality egg!!
  • @sam23lc what's a mock cycle? how does it work? yikes about the pio but glad you're ok! those needles are no joke! lots of luck with your cycle!

@pegs007 welcome! i am not familiar with mini ivf or what it entails. would love to know though! there seem to be so many different protocols! wishing you luck with your cycle!

@ACAC25 it does take time to recover and i'm glad you're taking a much needed break. i hope your exercise plan gets easier with time as well.

@sue2019 good luck with your transfer next week! it only takes 1 so lots of sticky vibes!

  • @Tulips29 - Thank you for starting this group, its great to have buddies to talk to :)
Mini IVF involves less aggressive protocol in terms of medication, focuses more on quality than quantity. Frankly speaking I had no clue about this term and heard it for the first time, when my RE recommended. The world of science is so vast & overwhelming!! Phew.Good luck for your upcoming retrieval!
@ACAC25 - Sorry to hear about your loss, hope your body heals up real fast during the break.
@sherrod8590 - Good luck for your upcoming retrieval.
    @ashcash03 & @sue2019 - Baby dust for a sticky sticky transfer!!

I don't know if we are doing fresh/frozen transfer. RE says he will decide in due course of time. Any advise on  fresh vs frozen ?

I have been reading this book - Its starts w the egg and its amazing!! Highly recommend it :)
  • @pegs007 I’m reading that book too! I’m implementing change after each chapter. I just bought some DHEA capsules. My RE thinks it may be all hype. My body needs all the hype she can get! Best of luck on your mini IVF. I’m halfway through my testing for my full IVF. Wish it could start sooner!!
  • @makana11 - The book is great starting point for TTC prep! And it really gives you the direction how  you could possibly improve your chances. But frankly I ran everything by my RE before making any changes. Every body is so different you see. My RE infact said NO to DHEA for me.

Glad to know your testing is all done and wishing you a great start!! xx
  • @sue2019 I hope your transfer is next week and I hope everything goes well!

Doctor got my blood test results today. Everything is looking normal, he just wants to change my insulin levels. So I'm now on BCP, 850mg metformin twice daily and 10mg folic acid as well as an exercise routine. Hoping and praying this all helps for a successful mid March cycle.

    Welcome to the new ladies!

@ACAC25 sorry about the delay but glad you are feeling better about it. I'm also on metformin! Careful with the carbs, if I eat too many (I'm on low carb low sugar anyway) it makes me pretty sick/tummy ache.

@pegs007 hi! I've heard frozen transfers have a slightly higher success rate - but I think it's probably different for everyone. I think the theories behind that are that your body isn't coming right off of an egg retrieval so it's more receptive, and frozen embies are a bit stronger/heartier than fresh. It's best for your doctor to help you make that decision though!

@sam23lc oh nooo haha! They get easier - try using ice to numb the spot, then a heating pad after while you massage it to disperse the oil. I couldn't imagine doing them standing up! I always lay down dramatically and have my DH husband do them for me haha

Ladies...anyone heard of/taking Ovasitol? My new RE recommended it for me...I actually really like it, I'm already seeing some changes and my skin is amazing. However I've been on it for a week now and just randomly started spotting. I never spot, it's the only new med/supplement I started taking so I wonder if there's a correlation? It's not crazy spotting just very very faint brown CM almost. Weird. Anyone have any thoughts??? This is the product: https://theralogix.com/products/ovasitol-inositol-powder
  • @ellemarie7 thank you for the heads up about the carbs. I've never taken metformin before so I appreciate the information. I typically try to keep to a low carb diet so hopefully that will help.
  • @pegs007 interesting about mini ivf. What's your protocol on it? My RE is focused on quality as well and would adjust my medication dosage every single day based on daily blood levels. Don't know if that's the same as mini ivf, guessing not? Re: fresh vs frozen, I also heard that frozen has slightly higher implantation chances. I guess partly because you give your body some rest while you prep for a prozen transfer. The risk you take is putting your embryos through the freezing and then thawing process, but it's a small chance they may not survive from what I understand. If you plan to do PGS testing, then it'll be a frozen transfer regardless.

AFM: today is day 2 of stims for me. Weirdly, menopur doesn't burn like it did last time, but I feel like now that I've said it, I'll jinx myself

  • @Tulips29 I'm glad you have gotten started and that the shots arent too bad. To be honest after a few days I thought the menopur was ok too, except I had to totally psych myself up to stab myself lol hoping the shots continue to be good to you.

The metformin is putting me through the ringer. I've had an upset stomach, low appetite and felt really nauseous since I started taking it yesterday. At one point both days in the afternoon (but I take it in the morning) it was so bad I felt like I was on the verge of puking for an hour. My doctor said it was only a 10% chance I'd have any side effects. How wonderful it is to me special. 😞
  • @ACAC25 well, if it makes you feel better, when I first started metformin I had an upset stomach and nausea as well. I think it lasted for a good week until my body got used to it. I'm not sure of your dosage, but I started low (1 pill in the morning and 1 at night) and now I can tolerate a higher dosage too. I hope your body adjusts soon and hang in there!

@ellenmarie7 & @Tulips29 - Thanks for your inputs on fresh vs frozen. Will leave it to RE for now.

Well ladies, I took menopur for the first time yesterday, didn't burn really but I have throbbing headache is morning :(

Hope you are doing well in your cycles! Btw has anyone tried mayan belly massages?

  • Hey ladies.  I'm going to jump in here since we have confirmed that I'll be starting IVF #3 this month.  I'm on the estrogen priming patch protocol, and patches start this weekend.  Injections start on my day 2, and retrieval will be later in March.  Depending on how many eggs we get (not expected to get more than 2 or 3), we may do a fresh and frozen transfer at the same time!  We only have one frozen embryo, and I'm 41, so our time is running out.

Good luck to everyone who has started the shots.  They do get easier :)

  • @pegs007My RE prescribed Letrozole for my stimulation cycle as soon as he heard I had migraines. Maybe something to talk to your dr about for next time.
  • @bakerstreetboys welcome! good luck with this cycle, hoping this will be the one for you!

@Tulips29 fingers crossed the menopur burn stays away.

@ACAC25 (and @tulips29) I also had TERRIBLE side effects from the metformin. Like - really bad. Same as you are describing. I also started slow - took one for a week, then two for a week, then got up to three. Not to discourage you, but it lasted about a month of me feeling pretty sick. However, I just told myself clearly I needed it and that the side effects would eventually wane. They absolutely did, and now I take my 3xday dosage and feel great! So hang in there..it will subside!

@pegs007 I did do some Mayan abdominal massage on my second transfer (that ended in a BFN but I'm certain it's because I wasn't on any steroids for that cycle) - I really enjoyed it and I felt good after them. It was just super expensive (like $250!!!). She did show me some self massage I can do at home which I still keep up. But it definitely can't hurt!

AFM - that weird spotting went away after a day or two...so guess it was just something random!
  • @ellenmarie7 - Thanks for sharing your experience, I am thinking to try on my own. Glad your spotting went off.
  • Hi everyone!  I'm starting BCPs tomorrow, and if all goes according to plan (and with IVF, who knows?!) I'll start stims around 3/17.  There are so many emotional ups and downs with IVF, so I'm just hoping I can remain calm and optimistic...easier said than done :)

Here we go again...IVF 3 is underway!
  • Hey @lovemygs! We will be cycle buddies!! I am currently on BCP (day 7 of 21) and expect to start stims around March 18th!
I'm hoping the same! It's hard to relax doing this kind of process. Had a big discussion with my doctor about it at my appointment last week. With the plan we paid for we get 1 psychologist appointment free per cycle to help with stress. I have mind tomorrow, I'm supposed to get calming techniques so I will share them here too in  case they are helpful!
