What habits of others do you hate!? What drives you crazy? Or, what do you do that makes your SO crazy?

Re: GTKY: Pet Peeves

  • Dishes in the sink... I cannot use the sink if it’s full of dishes!

My husband rubs his feet together constantly, and it makes me want to punch him sometimes.

My husband cannot stand that I take eggs out from the egg carton from both ends and work my way to the middle, but I think it keeps the carton balanced🤷🏻‍♀️

He also can’t stand that I just tear open chips and other bags of food. He cuts one end so it’s perfect!

I’m sure there are more that I think of once others start mentioning theirs!
  • @blitzybee ❤️ I thought I was the only one who took eggs from both ends of the carton to keep it balanced!

  • Ooh I like this one! I can’t stand when people have conversations right outside your cubicle/workspace. What’s even worse is when they set their coffee on your desk and lean on your wall divider. Ahhhhhhh. I’m not bitter 😂 I’m so glad I have an actual office now.

Other things that get me are people that talk over you, don’t pay attention when you talk, and when my husband leaves glasses in the sink to “soak” for no reason 🙄

I know H hates that I bite and pick at my cuticles and that I’m forgetful.

  • Loud chewing.
  • Good topic!

H and his mom do this weird thing where, while they're sitting on a couch without shoes on, they curl their toes so that they are folded under the balls of their feet. Then they push down against the floor. So gross and so creepy.

Also, people who make a point of eating audibly.

@zuuls_mom Definitely +1 to the cubicle conversations! We have a crew in my dept that holds such loud cubicle conversations that I can hear then verbatim. From my office. With the door closed. They're 20' away. Do people not know what inside voices are?!

H hates it when I get mad about cabinets being left open (which I should have added above, I suppose!) and when I leave the door between the house and connected garage open (a crack) while getting dog food (for about a minute).
  • @mamaber2204 preach ! I hate when dh picks things up from the floor with his feet. Ugh.

People who who don’t respect personal space. Or overly touchy people (especially men).

We have a no shoe policy in our house - really bugs me when people wear them anyway (like my fil). I can always tell bc I keep my house pretty clean- I can see a clear shoe print on the hardwood! Ewww.

My H can’t stand how “messy” I am but he’s freakishly clean. His apartment looked like a (very clean)hotel room - literally no personal belongings anywhere. He’s always on me about my bath / makeup products in the bathroom 🤨

  • I do the egg thing too! Also +1 here for people chewing loudly - pretzels are the WORST.

People who drive all up on your butt instead of just changing lanes to go around you.

And lately, people who assume I’ll be the DD. Just because I’m KU doesn’t mean I want to go 20 minutes out of my way to pick you up, Carol.

@cammie0526 the carol at the end made me literally laugh out loud    :D  so funny. Drives me crazy too!
  • @cammie0526 ugh, Carol is the worst!!

@cammie0526 definilty not part of the gig, Carol!😒

@rms924 I’m somewhat lax about the shoes thing, BUT if I have a baby crawling on the floor, those shoes better be off! And people that work at the hospital, shoes off! We got our carpets shampooed one time, and then my in-laws came in with shoes on, and I had an 8 month old at the time-NOT COOL! Also, I am master of picking items up from the floor with my feet! Comes in handy when you’re really pregnant! You might even try it! 🤣

  • @rms924 add me to the no shoes in the house club too! I'm a very clean person and with 2 kids running around the last thing I want are dirty shoes on my floors, especially when I have a crawling baby

@mamaber2204 my H does that too! It doesn't bug me exactly but I do find it side eye worthy

I think my biggest pet peeve is when people do the lip smack thing when they talk and not accidentally, I mean when they use it to punctuate a sentence. It drives me crazy.
  • @rms924 yes to no shoes in the house and personal space.
Putting food away without closing containers, like opening a box of cereal (or bag of chips) and shoving it back in the cupboard exposed to the elements - it'll go stale, bugs will get in it!
Putting really stinky food like fish or cut onion in the fridge unless it's seriously sealed shut to keep the smell contained.
I seem stuck on food related ones.
DH definitely rolls his eyes at how often I spill drinks (clumsy and distracted, I usually just tip it and don't often spill the whole thing). I spilled tea on myself this morning, and later spilled the coffee I was holding for DH on DS's stroller (DS wasn't in there, at least).
  • 1+ to the shoes club, but not because I'm not a clean freak. Because shoes don't belong in a house! My mom has tennis shoes just for wearing inside and she doesn't even bring them to my house anymore.

I cannot stand jokes about gas and other body functions that create gross odors. And don't even get me started on the poop emoji. Probably because I am not an 8 year old boy.
  • Oh @ternsetc yours reminds me of another food one: when my husband puts like an inch of milk back in the fridge or a bag of chips with only 3 left back in the pantry. Infuriating!
  • No shoes in the house here too. Once I had a baby on floors it was a giant nope. DH always tells workers they can leave shoes on though. He's too nice  o:)
  • @OmegaRose3 Yes on the lip smacking front. A related peeve: over-pronouncing final consonants in a word to be more dramatic. Ugh.
  • @blitzybee I totally rip open chip bags and boxes and it drive DH crazy. I'm like, "but I'm starving and need it now!"

You all are motivating me to try the no show policy. That is definitely not a thing in my family, but the thought of a newborn on our floor grosses me out. I'm not sure if it will make a difference with a dog and cat running around though...
  • When my husband cleans the kitchen after supper and doesn't wipe down the counters... it drives me crazy ... the kitchen is not clean if there are still crumbs everywhere lol.
  • @themadcamel and @blitzybee you would both drive me insane taking eggs from both sides of the carton!!! The idea of 3 or 4 lone eggs chilling in the center of the carton is driving me batty right now!!!

I can stand loud chewers/chewing with your mouth open. When my brother eats steak, I want to punch him in the face.

I also intentionally get to work was early as possible so I can quietly get my shit organized and start my day peacefully on my own, but I have one coworker who just looooooves to start complaining first thing at 7:30 a.m. about all of the problems that she has 100% control over but refuses to acknowledge and never gets the hint that I'm like OKAYYYYYY GO AWAAAAAYYYY NOBODY CARES!!!  So I guess super chatty-Cathy's first thing in the morning + people who just want to continue complaining and refuse to accept any solutions for how to fix their own problems.

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @sunshine2417 🤣🤣🤣 Makes perfect sense to me, and no wonky balancing act 😁
  • People that burp and fart without saying excuse me like my gross-ass FIL.

People that talk incessantly without actually saying anything. Like my 5 year old. Lol. But I love him so much.

When Mh leaves cabinets open and his socks and clothes all over the house.

This is stupid, but I work at a hospital and we stock our room with linens as we need them. One of my coworkers is so messy when she stocks them. It’s always a disheveled mess and it drives me crazy. I always refold them when I can. She also has super messy handwriting, I don’t know how the radiologists can read her worksheets. It’s a good thing I don’t live with her, I feel like she’s a messy person
  • No shoe household here! I just find it gross and we have lived that way before we started procreating.

I hate when people don’t put their shopping carts back in the proper corral in the parking lot. It takes less than 2 minutes!!
  • @lillywonderland as a parent that’s why I always park next to the corral.. so I can put my cart away and not leave my son or so I don’t have the walk across the lot with him. Good parenting tip for FTMs!!
  • @blitzybee My family rubs their feet together all the time. It's what we do when we are content.  but It drives people nuts!
@kdl89 My husband never wipes down the counter or the stove top! Drives me insane!

When dishes pile up in the sink because they didn't know if the dishwasher was clean or not.  Super easy way to tell just by opening it up!

The parents at school who use the parking lot to drop off kids versus the drop loop so they get the parking lot all congested.
  • lol @sunshine2417 :D

Add me to the no shoes in house crew, *especially* when it's winter. Don't track all of that salt and snow onto my floors! We have some close family friends originally from Japan and they always keep little slippers in a variety of sizes by their front door for guests to put on after taking off their shoes.

@calliah ooh I can't stand when things aren't folded neatly. One of my big pet peeves is when people leave fitting rooms or the racks/shelves in a store looking like a hot mess. How hard is it to put the things back on the hanger or bring them to the unwanted rack?

@lillywonderland @septoctkids more than once on autopilot I've put DS in his carseat and then realized I still needed to take the cart back, so took him back out of his carseat to do it - I didn't want to, but I can't just leave a cart loose in the parking lot! (edited for a lot of typos!)
  • Yesss to no shoes in the house! I already feel like I have to sweep/mop my hardwoods constantly. Shoe prints and messes everywhere would drive me NUTS.

  • I don’t get the foot rubbing comments. Lol. Is it like a cricket?

@themadcamel I used to work at Target, so messy stores are the worst. Bad memories, haha. I never understood how people could be so messy when they shop!
  • @calliah lol at like a cricket! I rub my feet together when I'm in pain - it's not really conscious. Have always kind of wondered if it was a widely shared pain response or not - reading these I'm thinking not!
  • I agree with shoes off in the house! We didn’t start being strict about it until we had our first child but it makes so much sense! The kids are on the floor all the time.

One if my biggest pet peeves is peanut butter left on the knife and put in the sink. I can’t stand cleaning peanut butter off of utensils or dishes. Yuck! My mother in law would come over to let our dog out once in a while, and he loves pb. So she would put a little bit in his dish and then leave the knife covered in pb in the sink. I swore she did it on purpose because she knew it drove me crazy. 🤦🏻‍♀️
  • @septoctkids ugh yes! The peanut butter on the knife thing kills me. I absolutely hate the smell of wet PB, pregnant or not. That or ketchup left on a plate in the sink...what is so difficult about rinsing dishes before they go into the sink?

I thought of another one, I only like dirty dishes to go on one side of the sink. Not the other side. Not the counter.
  • @kiddiesandkitties agreed!!

BIGGEST pet peeve late in pregnancy are all the comments on how "HUGE" and "READY TO POP" comments you get. "ARE YOU SURE ITS NOT TWINS?" YOU"RE NOT FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!! I generally hate people when I'm visibly pregnant ;)

  • My pregnancy pet peeve is people touching my stomach. H was SHOCKED when I told him it was a thing and happened to me all the time when I was KU with DS. It is so uncomfortable.

I also had a guy flat out ask me how much weight I had gained when I was 8 months along. YOU WANNA DIE, BRO?

  • My current pet peeve with pregnancy is everyone asking if this one was planned! And when I say yes they ask how many months there will be between my 2 children. It's like they are amazed that someone would plan to have children 22 months apart.
  • @kdl89 omg my sister asked that with my first pregnancy in front of my entire extended family, I was like, wtf?! Why is this anyones business?!  What are they expecting you to reply with "No, this was an accident?" seriously people, get some tact!

Mine is this lady at my job. She's always kind of got on my nerves because I feel like she complains a lot about things that are NBD in my opinion, but it's been kicked into overdrive now that I'm pregnant, and she knows I'm pregnant. Anyway I've been feeling awful at work and also just kinda disliking my job in general, and I guess she thinks it's fun to constantly tell me I'm "in a bitchy mood" and laughs about it, when I'm genuinely just trying not to throw up at my desk. And then this morning she walks into my office without knocking (another pet peeve that she does constantly) and goes, "How are you feeling?" and I smile and say I'm good and she goes, "YAY YOU'RE GONNA BE NORMAL TODAY!" B*tch. GTFO.

Edited to add: I don't know why people feel like it's okay to comment/question your reproductive affairs. Just like people always wanting to know WHEN you're having kids, and then WHEN you're going to have another, but not too close together because then people judge you on that too. Ugh. People are grinding my gears today. And I'm not even in a bad mood today lol.
  • @kdl89 I don't know why people think that they can ask these things.  My first 2 are 15 months apart, planned, Oh the shocker!   There will be 6 years between this one and my daughter, also planned.  Each family does what works for them.  That may be 12 months apart or 12 years, people need to stop being so judgy!
  • @kdl89 OMG - I haaaate that too.  My youngest was 18months when her baby sister was born.  She was NOT planned.  I was on birth control.  I loved her with every ounce of my being and was thrilled to be pregnant from the second I found out.  EVERY SINGLE PERSON asked if it was planned.  What exactly are you looking for as a response?  Nope, you win!  This time around, again, not planned, but the most enormous blessing.  I know it's coming for me soon!
  • I hate everything :D

I really dislike city busses and feel all bus stops should be required to have a pull out so they get the heck out my way. Yea, tax dollars be damned, lol.

I dont like "unique" spellings of common names. It still sounds the same!

When people mispronounce words like "Libary" "flustrated"

People who complain for the sake of complaining and refuse to do anything to change it.

    Also, team no shoes.
